Wow, Bravo to the store. It's been over a year since we came to this store as we usually use the one in our neighboring town. They did a complete revamp of the way the store layout is, upgrading everything. Store is clean, organized, bright and inviting. Only problem we had was the layout wasn't your typical layout of these stores so we had to hunt around to find what we were looking for. But we didn't mind. Went to stop and shop for deli meat. Asked for a lb of both. I got half pound ham and 3/4 of turkey. The meat is cut all wonky no wonder the guy couldn't get it into a bag. So disappointed! read more

I love this stop and shop, the only downfall is it has "rush hours"' (as most do). It's always stocked, and they employees and very friendly and helpful. They have parking spots for those who did online in-store pickup, a Starbucks, and those little devices that scan your items making check-out faster. At this location there is a café area for eating, or if you just need a rest. There's a section dedicated to seafood, right next to the deli. Their deli even has a dock with prepackaged meats and cheeses so you don't have to wait in line. The restrooms are kept decently clean as well as easily accessible. What I can say about this store is that it's somewhat tight for those in wheelchairs or using the stores driven carts. What I love about this one in particular is the two isles dedicated to organic and gluten free foods and products. Their meat section has a great selection as well and you can usually find really good deals! I come here all the time, just be sure to avoid rush hours (specifically lunch time and 5pm.) read more

As I am shopping the aisle with my child there is a tv screen in the aisle which shows us both being recorded. As I was trying to do their job of sec check out it again showed me and my son on the video screen being recorded. All I could hear was echos of an AI voice on each machine. Nothing has made me feel more like living in a 3rd world country. Mind you I bought 3 bags of groceries and spent $370 on those meager bags. This Stop and Shop used to be a place we'd go grocery shopping most of the time. However, in 2021 they have made some changes which are not for the better. They've taken the organic section and mixed everything in with the regular section. This is a big disappointment!! Also, the store is old and the floors don't look very clean. They're rearranging the entire store at the moment and it's so difficult to find things. So, we just gave up and shop elsewhere. read more

So, I just really like saying that I'm going to the Stop & Shop - what an awesome name for a grocery store! Being from the West Coast (where there are no Stop & Shops) the stores naming is somewhat novel to me. Anywho, once you get past that, it's your standard grocery store with the exception of a few things. Produce at this one is typically on the better side of average for this area of CT. What makes the produce shopping even better is the fact you can weigh it and print out bar codes tags for fast a faster check out - I really like this feature and would like other stores to adopt it. This store also offers a large selection of health food options from preservative free and gluten free items to vegan staples - its nice to find a place with these niche products. In contrast to CA, I've found these items difficult to come by until going to the Stop & Shop. By far my favorite thing is the self-check out lanes - there are tons of them. I love not having to talk to anyone and just manage my groceries by myself. Gone are the days of the bagger smushing my precious tomatoes. Now if my tomatoes get smashed, it's my own darn fault. ;-) So I continue to go back, not only because they have some decent deals on food, but because the small additions they have made for a more pleasurable experience. btw added tip: this one always seems to have a good fresh selection of quality meats. read more

I've been shopping at Stop & Shop for years. Well, maybe not this one, but since they seem to be everywhere in the northeast, they're an unavoidable mainstay. In terms of prices, Stop & Shop is more affordable than the Big Y. If you're military affiliated, you may want to check out the Commissary, but in comparison, Stop & Shop is a better option for your produce, meats, and they have a wider variety of items. The best part about this particular location are the discount bins. I've racked up on a variety of spices, flavored olive oils and vinegars for as much as 75% off! So, this Stop & Shop is creating quite a stir at the water cooler in my office. The ladies are going nuts for the 'Scan It' personal scanner. You grab this remote control at the entrance, scan your Stop & Shop card and go about your grocery shopping business. At the produce department, they have new electronic scales, where you can weigh your fruits and veggies and label it yourself with the price and bar code. And your Scan It screen will ring to give you special deals on items that are only on sale for Scan It users. The whole hi-tech switch encourages shoppers to use reusable bags (bag as you go) and eliminate crowded registers during shopping rush hour. But with those special sale items, it could encourage unnecessary spending. Plus, when I used it, I noticed I was spending a lot more time in the grocery store than usual. (Largely due in part because I'm anal about bagging.) But the longer I stuck around, the more I put in my cart, which is not ideal for someone trying to budget. Also, there's always the question of customer honesty when it comes to something where shoppers are trusted to scan and bag themselves, as it would seem easy to slip a few items into your bag unscanned. But that's Stop & Shop's problem, not mine. It's well worth trying out, but to be honest, if I only have a few items on my list, I'll stick to scanning it at the register. read more

Not really a fan of the "shopper card" stores where you have to sign up for a card to get ok prices. (Alone, I have Ralph's, Winco, Shoprite, and like 20 other of these cards for different chains). I never feel like I'm ever getting a good deal at these type stores. That being said, there are definitely some products here I don't see at other stores and I will shop for those products. Examples: pesto, Cheesecake factory brand bread. The larger selection of brands, and extra organic/healthy and independent brands equals out the overall higher prices. read more

This is a review of the Peapod Pickup Service at the Groton, CT Stop & Shop. I've been a fan of Peapod for several years, first using it to preserve my personal time when I was working and travelling every week. So this week I decided to use the Peapod pickup service after returning home from a trip. Never again! It took 3 phone calls to the store and nearly 30 minutes of waiting (in a designated purple parking spot) to have the groceries delivered to my car. I was practically begging them for my groceries! I told the store manager that this was my first time using the pickup service and my impression was that their system was pretty broken. I got nothing more than a Hrrrumpf. Then comes the irony - When they finally arrived I was asked to verify my name and address and also show them my license. Seriously - I am appealing to them over and over for my groceries and they still want me to prove who I am? Hope you have better luck than me... read more

Worst experience imaginable today at Stop and Shop. I am a faithful customer to this store and come here every week and spend over $200. Today I was treated like a criminal and a thief due to their own equipment not functioning correctly. like every time I go there, I use the scanner to scan and bag my groceries as I go. When I went to check out the scan gun alerted me that I would need cashier assistance to complete my purchase. When the cashier came over she asked for my scanner and started to rescan my items, i asked if there was a problem and she explained my purchase was going to be audited. Perfectly fine with that. I understand that this is part of their process. The problems started when the cashier was having difficulty when trying to scan my items, she called for a manager who told us that my scanner wasn't compatible for the audit, so the cashier left with my stop and shop card and scanner to find a compatible scanner and transfer all my purchase info to that scanner, this took a little over 20 min. Then when the cashier returned she was able to scan items to audit, scanned about 5 items with no problem, all received the green check mark stating I had scanned them, when she scanned my chicken the machine froze, and instead of blaming the equipment she immediately began to question me as to whether or not I scanned my chicken, to which I explained I am certain I did, the machine was still frozen and she repeatedly asked me if I scanned it, once the machine I froze instead of rescanning the chicken she then added the chicken to my order and said she would check on it. Her attitude towards me completely changed at the moment, she was short and continuously was questioning me about my items. When she went to check the machine froze again. At this point the manager was there helping the cashier and were both rude and implying that I was stealing items and began unpacking all my bags. Making comments to each other under their breath and saying things like "she didn't scan the chicken" and "I'm sure that's the only thing she forgot" in a sarcastic tone again implying I was trying to steal items and loud enough for other customers to notice. It has been close to 45 min and the manager states that I now have to take all my items over to a register so they can rescan every single one, which completely defeats the purpose of me scanning/bagging as I go. Because of how they were treating me, like a thief, and this now being a 45 min process, I told them I didn't have anymore time for this and needed to leave. The manager began unpacking all my items out of my reusable bags and asked me on 6 separate occasions if the bags were mine. I told her every time that yes they are mine and that I came in with them, the manager continued to imply that I was trying to now steal these bags and didn't stop until I told her she could check the cameras to see that I walked in with them. For her to think that I was stealing groceries and also reusable bags is highly offensive and embarrassing. I am a nurse and my husband is a disabled veteran, we work very hard for our money. I have never stolen anything in my life, never mind a $1 reusable grocery bag. I walked out without my $200+ in grocery items, and will never return to a stop and shop again. I understand the process of auditing and have no problem with it, but when their equipment was not working properly, I was blamed and treated like a thief. Things like this make me happy companies like Amazon exist. I'd rather give my business to them or any other grocery store! read more

Deborah, first let me thank you for introducing me to Brian "The Butcher". Having lost the local butcher in my town, I searched and have finally found a replacement. While I waited. I heard Brian working the floor. He was actually helping people and making them smile. Which in this day and age is a rarity in a big box store and there was total engagement on both sides. Our local store does not have friendly folks that actually help you with your purchase. My turn, they didn't have what I was looking for in the cases but Brian "The Butcher" was more than happy to go find, trim and even trim the Beef Brisket again for me. My smoker is going to be VERY happy come Sunday! Can't speak for the rest of the store they might be the standard style of Groton misery, but you certainly need to visit "The Butcher". I can't say enough good things about "Brian the butcher"! I am pretty new to cooking so had many questions on pork loin roast. Brian didn't just give me information, he saved me money, cut and tied my roast, cut pork chops for later dinners all from the same large, on sale pork loin roast. You have a gem in Brian, do what ever you can to keep him happy, because when he is happy I will be happy along with many customers learning to cook! read more

As time goes on this store becomes less and less friendly, ask someone for help, they pull out their phone and act like they don't see you. I now do most of my shopping at Aldis, it's less expensive, and has better meat choices, never have I ever broken into a pkg of hamburger from Aldis only to have it be brown or grey like at stop and shop. I only go to your store for things I can't get at Aldis. Yesterday I came into your store for a handful of items, no short line registers, I spent more time in line than I did shopping. My problem yesterday was the box of Paczki (donuts). I look forward to them every year, however when I opened them I was sure they were last years left overs...hard as a rock and the "bavarian cream" was a small transparent hard sticky blob you couldn't chew through. $4.00 in the trash, I waste more money at this store and will start going to Big Y for my extras, even if it cost a little more, at least its fresh. Over the last year and a half this store has deteriorated quickly, prices went up, staff went down, friendliness went away and the store has a funky something is dead in the walls smell. read more

Usually has what I am looking for, although sometimes the meat is a little picked over and sometimes they do not always have certain produce. I've looked for zucchini and red peppers only to have them be out. My biggest problem is there are not usually enough staff/open registers. The staff that is there is friendly enough, but one or two registers aren't usually enough. To avoid this, 9 times out of 10 I go through self check out, which also has long lines, and a multitude of errors. read more
