Do you ever wonder out loud how certain stores manage to stay in business? Well, I certainly do especially when it comes to the middling, grocer Stop & Shop whose sole purpose seems to be overcharging on virtually everything in the store. Even before inflation became a thing, a visit here had me shaking my head so frequently that my chiropractor became an ardent fan of the store. Shop Rite it ain't. Prices on Center Aisle staples are a horror show and you have to wonder if their butcher spent far too much time worshipping a golden calf. Someone please wake me up. Well, apparently, I'm not the only one caught in the throes of sticker shock. The chain will soon be closing countless locations in an effort to "right size" their business. It might have been far easier to roll back their pricing just a tad... all to the horror of my chiropractor. Two misaligned stars. read more

I have used the Stop&Shop online ordering catering site for at least 8 events, over the past 2 years, out of the 8, 4 were received and fulfilled properly. Two were ordered for Superbowl in 2024 and 2025, both were fulfilled no problems. I ordered the finger sandwich platter for a work event in Aug 2025, I received the emails confirming the order and that it was ready for pick up at the time specified, when I went in to pick it up morning of the event, they stated they never received the order, apologized and I had to leave with no food. I had ordered the same sandwich platter beginning of May 2026, they received the order last minute, because when I went in they were still making the tray up, they shorted me 8 sandwiches, I went back and they made it right by providing the missing sandwiches. I ordered appetizer platters & the bagel platter for a work event in mid May 2026, again, received the emails confirming and that it was ready for pickup, when I went in, the workers stated they did not get the order. They apologized & quickly whipped up the platters, but they were not the best in presenting and were not exactly what the website advertised. I then tried one more time and ordered the brownie platter for the graduating seniors on the Monroe baseball team for senior day, again, received the confirmation and ready for pick up email, but this time I called, again, the bakery stated they did not get the order, but they would figure something out and I could get the order tomorrow. I don't think it will be fresh for some reason and probably NOT look like the website, we'll see. The service is terrible and not fair to the workers either, as they are not receiving the orders. I don't understand how my order can be confirmed and ready for pickup when no one is physically confirming the orders and providing them to the team to make. It's sporadic and so I feel this is a manager issue or a system issue. Shame to have the company lose money and business because of incompetence on the system or on the management, very disappointing and I don't recommend using their website to order, you'll have to walk in and fill out paperwork like it's 1995. read more

This Stop & Shop in Monroe is fab - I come here at least 2~3 times a week. A nice selection of general groceries, organic produce & eggs, deli, etc. To add - The staff is great! All the employees I've met (@registers, customer service, management) are friendly, helpful & kind. A nice lady named Cindy even went to the backroom looking for something per my request. Today at about 11:15 am I waited at the fish department at the Monroe store for 15 minutes . There was no one to attend to customers . I did a little shopping and came back . Still no counter person. I asked at least 2 other employees in the area to help but no one would. I finally gave up. I called customer service twice but no one picked up. read more

I'm not one to write reviews, but I am today. This was one of the worst trips to this store. There was not one cashier working there at any register. Only self checkout, and that area was pac with customers waiting. Then there was someone repairing 3 of the self checkout units. So the wait was even longer. Went to the freezer section and found a 3 units totally empty with the freezer doors wide open. Along with puddles on the floor and no signs or anyone advising customers about the hazards. Makes you wonder what is happening to this store. Hopefully they will be addressing both of these issues soon. read more

This Stop and Shop is PRICE GAUGING! For months it has been charging $3 MORE!!! per dozen for Egglands eggs than a ShopRite 5 miles away ($8.69 vs $5.49 today). For Quakers Oatmeal 42 ounces, almost $2 more ($8.29 vs $6.59 today). They obviously are hitting up the older area residents who heavily make up their customers and find the store conveniently close. Customers should tally how much more they are paying per shopping trip and consider driving the extra few miles to ShopRite, which has been raising their prices as well but not to this extreme. On top of the extreme prices, there are fewer and fewer cashiers so customers are having to use self-checkout as well as bagging their items. LESS SERVICE AND HIGHER PRICES - what a deal! read more

I am taking out time to write this after a disappointing experience at this location where I was given disrespect, not once but many times by the staff. Rude comments were made after an action was voided after finding out OTC has been down for several days. Instead of understanding the situation, they were giving an attitude as if they were going to pay the bill. Out of respect, I did not say anything in the moment as there were others present. However, the staff needs to be trained on ethics and how to be respectful & also culturally aware. We could've easily been annoyed after spending so much time shopping for items and picking out everything only to find out the system was down for OTC. There are some items that were purchased through cash, but the rest were returned because we wanted to purchase on the OTC card. My mother is an elderly woman who earns no income and to judge her is absolutely disgusting. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior. The sad part is that it isn't the first time I have seen the staff make rude comments under their breath. Shame on you for allowing such behavior and attitude. One of the worst supermarkets ever! The adventure starts when you pull up to the parking lot. Monroe is known for its large population of retirees and parking can be a bit of a pain, whether it's trying to get in and out of the lot or rogue carts slamming into your car. Inside, the frustrating things are the lines and the prices! Whenever I shop here, I'm usually just buying one or two items, but I find myself standing in a long line even the self checkout! The culprit is a combination of the slow checkout staff and customers with carts filled to the brim. Despite having the self scanner guns to scan your items while shopping, the lines aren't any better. Don't get me started about the prices. It's amazing why anyone would shop here other than convenience. The regular prices are putrid and the sale items are a joke. There's only a small section for organic and natural products. I'm happy that shoprite isn't too far away and I would gladly drive an extra 10 minutes for better prices and better shopping experience. Shame on Stop and Shop for fleecing the elderly and their limited fixed income! The only positive of this place is there's a full starbucks in the premises. read more

I will never shop at this store again! I had to shop there couple times when my daughter goes to dancing school and I have one hour to kill and the closet grocery store is this one. But it's a waste of money! First of all the store is so dirty and smelling bad that I don't want to shop there. A lot of items like Oreo yogurts I buy are out of stock. Then one time I bought ground chicken here and opened it the next and boy it smelled bad!! I threw it out of course. Then I bought shrimp here they were on sale, I decided to give it a try. When I cooked it it was full of water and shrunk to a mini size shrimp. I wanted to make a shrimp scampi but with these mini shrimp I don't know what I got. I have no complaints about the service they are super helpful but the store itself is terrible! read more

After shopping in the store, I accidentally locked my bag with the car key and the cell phone inside the trunk. I was unable to unlock the car itself. I asked for help at the customer service station to write down their local phone number. The stuff was nasty and ignorant. In many ways supermarkets are very much the same, a box of cereal is a box of cereal. You couldn't tell the difference between Cheerios from McCaffrey's and Cheerios from Stop & Shop. But there are differences too. Stop & Shop in Monroe offers some kind of rotisserie chicken. That's it for hot foods aside from a few soups. McCaffrey's has a large hot food bar. And a large salad bar, Stop & Shop got rid of theirs. But what led me to writing this review is Stop & Shop runs out of items all too frequently. A week ago I was there, I needed coffee. I use Folgers freeze dried coffee, it's fast to make and I like it. They didn't have it. In fact aside from three jars of their own brand instant coffee and a name brand freeze dried light blend they were out of everything else, I remember thinking it looked like they were going out of business. I chose wrong and bought their instant coffee. It was horrible, I threw the coffee away. I was there today and they had the Folgers I usually use. I also needed low sugar instant oatmeal today, aside from an apple flavored one, which I don't like, they were out of all brands and all flavors. They basically stock their own brand and Quaker Oats. Out. None in stock. I found myself thinking that it looks like a business about to close. I left without buying any hot cereal, I'll get it elsewhere. You may wonder why I continue to go to Stop & Shop. It's because of convenience, they are the only supermarket in the area. We don't do our weekly food shopping there, we go to McCaffrey's in East Windsor. But when you need one or two items McCaffrey's is just too far to drive. Should another supermarket open in our area Stop & Shop would never see me again. Oh, and they have the flimsiest bags I've ever used. Practically every one of them rips through the bottom by the time you get home. read more

I am rating this store a zero. I just completed an extensive grocery shop in the Monroe NJ store. The cashier stood there and watched while I packed my bags. He didn't even push the items that were hard to reach towards me!! Even though we have to bring our own bags there is no reason that cashiers can't bag for the customers. Pharmacy review : Stop and Shop Pharmacy is the best pharmacy in Monroe from the pharmacists Kathy and Michelle to the ladies at the front Renee Fatima and Barbara I might have missed a name but all are great the pharmacists take a genuine interest in the patient from explaining potential side effects to any questions I might have as a patient, I get my vaccinations there with full confidence.And in case delivery is needed I just call before 11 am pay for it and it's free delivery. read more

Store is very high priced, customer friendliness is very poor. If you go early in the morning there is one register opened. They do not have a register for a few items only. So, you go over to self check out, which you don't want to do because that's taking a job away from someone. They have an associate standing there in case you run into trouble. They never greet you, or thank you for your patronage . The whole store needs a course in customer friendliness. They are so unfriendly throughout the store. Only been in a here couple since it's really the closest supermarket in the area. It's hugeee, can take you awhile to find something if you're not familiar with the set up (I fell victim to this). Just like most stop&shop stores, they don't have many good deal/reasonable price items. Both times I went I barely see workings/cashiers. I'm more of a self check out type of gal anyways. When it comes to last minute things I wouldn't mind going, but other than that I'll go elsewhere. read more

Ok so now that I reside in the area, here's my new take on this store. The bakery is very nice. The aisles are a little confusing. The placement of the freezers in the center of the store makes no sense to me. If you purchase Ice Cream and continue shopping, then checkout and then drive home, it has begun to soften already. If you only need milk, it's located at the furthest part of the store away from the front entrance. Granted this is a marketing ploy to entice you to purchase other items, I get my exercise in a gym, I do not need to walk across this huge store for a container of milk.....Price wise they're expensive. I've shopped in Stop and Shop in another state for years and the same items in this NJ store are more expensive......Kinda taking advantage of the many senior communities in the area in my opinion read more

I was quite surprised with all the negativity on this place. I was quite impressed with this Stop and Shop. It was very clean, and easy to navigate, Aisles are always marked correctly. You won't find something in the wrong place. Staff is very friendly, and there is staff all around the store to help you out. It is a little bit pricey, I will agree with the other reviewers. I had no problems with parking. It was very easy for me to park my car. There weren't a lot of senior citizens, so it did not stop me from me doing my quick shop. Checkout lines move quickly and efficiently. The part where the meat and deli departments arre, the flooring is not clean, but I don't really buy meat from a supermarket. I just passed it while going to the other aisles. It was a great store. I could find everything I needed. read more

This location is so central to the large retirement community of Monroe Township and with no convenient competition can ask whatever they wish for their foodstuffs....and frequently do. I shop here only in an emergency as the prices are at times outrageous especially in the fresh vegetable and meats departments.Selection is limited for a major chain grocery and the parking lot is a venue for a low speed demolition derby daily with 90's era Olds Electra's and late model Hyundai Sonatas vying for bragging rights. Shop here only if you have to and back your car in to offer a clear view of the senior that is just about to raised your insurance rates. read more

The people working at the deli are in slow mode it's like having the "slowskis" helping us. As I watch them cut the meat or pack salads they seem to be running on turtle mode. We waited at least 10 minutes. I've had better service at Safeway. Luckily I'm just visiting the area. read more

If you value your life, be extra careful in the parking lot!!! The amount of senior citizens that are lawfully operating vehicles is terrifying. If you are lucky enough to make it through the lot and into the store, the danger continues. Not only can they not operate cars, they can't drive the motorized carts either. I literally got hit by a motorized shopping cart!!! How many people can say that??? Besides that risk, the store itself is ok. Prices at Stop and Shop are a bit on the higher side, but I like their selection of grass fed beef. I will say though that on any given shopping trip, there is at least one item I need that is out. It never fails! I can never complete my shopping list. I normally go to this location strictly for my job, since it's like the only food store in Monroe. Deli customer service is horrific. I am not sure why it is allowed to continue. I have spoken to other folks in my area and we all travel to Dayton because of the poor customer service in this store. I was rushed and decided to try the deli dept. 8:00 in the morning and the man behind the counter not only yelled at me because he did not like the way I had my mask on ( it was on correctly) He proceeded to throw my purchase at me. He was very angry. I suspect he gets his thrills picking on "little old ladies". Maybe, he should transfer to another store where there are not so many older folks. Just a suggestion. read more

If you are one who wishes to avoid the elderly, do not show up here until after 6PM or prior a rain or snow storm. The last two are when the entire place is packed and all of the milk and bread goes off the shelves as if they are going to run to bunkers. As stated, when its storming the store is a lot less packed typically and it makes getting in and out easier. BTW, I hate this store's bread. It often molds prior to expiration date. Similarly the milk often sours prior to expiration as well. Certain discount bakery items have had similar issues. I've actually stopped buying bread entirely, regardless of store. If I want cold cuts I just eat them without the bread now or I'll get my bread as part of a fast food or restaurant order. There are enough Wawa stores in the area that I don't need to make a sandwich anymore, unless I'm craving something exotic or a specific combination. I don't do produce or the fish sections here -not that I'm fond of them anywhere. I only buy pre-packed frozen fish if I'm eating seafood. However, I should inform you they've had a bad history of freezers failing on them and items being encased in frost. Jersey has too much humidity and they don't seem to have any countermeasures in place (thus bread products that mold). If I want fruits, I'll buy a fruit smoothie jug and that'll do me just fine. I also don't prefer this store for much in general what typical shoppers would be after. The highlight of this place for me is really that they sell rotisserie chickens and sometimes full and half rack ribs. Their soups have been overpriced in addition to their cereal, so I go all the way out to the Super Walmart to buy by soups and cereals -unless I'm in a bind or they actually have a sale going on. Maybe if I need TP, or disposables like Paper Towels, plastic cutlery, cups, plates, etc -and am not in the mood to drive out to the Super Walmart instead (which happens to have a Wawa + Gas Station on the way). I will on rare occasion buy meat cuts, but I'd honestly sooner go out to a dinner or such for the costs of meats these days. Again, like with sandwiches, unless I'm looking to make something specific/exotic to the menus of such places. Overall, I gotta hand it to them that they have a fairly wide selection, especially if you dig into their cultural foods selections. They keep the place as up to date as they can, though I honestly feel this should not feel like such a central focus for them as it does, they just introduced the same robotic self-checkout counters as the Super Walmart, and there is a PNC ATM and Kiosk in the building. FYI, the Starbucks is not a full fledged Starbucks operated unit. Because it is an in-store unit, you can check out more than just your coffee at the kiosk -which is why per another reviewer's review, the lady behind the counter directed him to customer returns. The staff are hired by the store. If one understand how chains work then one understands how one store can be a total dive vs the next one 15mi away is a paradise -it has to do with the people (staff and customers). read more

Giving the employees a hard time for the most ridiculous reasons. Not moving out of the way when you're trying to get down an isle. Stop and Shop is filthy. When you walk in, the cart area is filthy and always has garbage on the floor. Today, after an extended wait at the deli, I noticed how filthy the display cabinets are where the salads are. Unbelievable! The health department should be contacted. The salad bar has disappeared and is being used to display iced tea bottles. That needed to be gone as the produce in it wasn't fresh. Management at this store needs to be replaced. read more

This is the worst supermarket I have ever had to frequent due to its proximity to my community. I only shop here when I can't get to a Shoprite. When I lived in northern NJ, I loved our Clifton Stop and Shop. But this Monroe location is horrific. How they can consistently sell outdated dairy, old meat, re-frozen ice cream is beyond me! The service is slow and not customer oriented as well. The store is dirty and they have issues with their freezers. Prices are too high, especially since they are located central to several over 55 adult communities. You would think they would cater to seniors on budgets. Would hope that reviews like this get to executives at Stop and Shop!! Really shows that customer is not number one here. read more

Just about all of the negative reviews I've read are exactly correct, but MY biggest complaint, is that they seem to monitor and make note of the exact items I love, so that they can discontinue carrying them shortly thereafter! Really, it seems like every time I find something there that I love, they discontinue it! What really makes it so bad, is that most of the things I'm talking about, are Stop & Shop private brands, which can't be purchased anywhere else......not even in the other S & S stores that are relatively nearby. Minus Five Stars... Buyer Beware of Stop & Shop's rotisserie chicken salad made in store. I have bought this several times and have found small shards as well as 1/2 inch splints of bone. I complained to the deli counter several times. Despite this serious complaint where one of these bones could puncture somebody's lung or colon causing a lifelong or life-threatening issue; all the Deli people had to say was "OK". Obviously nothing was done about it because I once again purchased this chicken salad and before I was halfway finished found three pieces of bone in it. I returned to shop and stop and once again complainted to the store manager Joe but Who knows if he pulled it out of the deli case to stop sales or if he's even having it looked into. I shop here only for the sales, prices tend to be high. Once they were out of iceberg lettuce and when asked I was told they turned away the shipment. I had good experiences with customer service. It's a shame that the other reviews slammed the senior citizens. I am not a senior but it seems people have little compassion for the elderly in our society. They could be your mother or father one day. Very sad!! They also are men who fought for your freedoms during WWII or the Korean War!!! read more

I stop in for lunch stuff--sushi, salad bar, latest designer potato chip. Nice layout. Place is big and clean. Typical hodgepodge of obese/middle-age/ARC employees. Easy to avoid when I use the self-checkout lane, since the majority of the customers are either too inept to use it or don't realize it's there. Which leads to my major complaint. In a phrase: Gray Dawn. During the week there are very few people below the age of 85. Geriatrics with gaping mouths meandering through the aisles with their carts, blocking every conceivable access route. Always getting in front of you and going a snail's pace. No fucking clue that you're behind them. On some days I almost feel like knocking them to the floor and stealing their purses full of scratch-offs to prove a point. Previous reviewer mentioned the parking lot. It will take a good 15 minutes to back your car out and exit the strip mall surrounding the supermarket. If you hate octogenarians, avoid this place like the plague that is no doubt collectively fermenting in all their Depends. read more

Big, nice, safe area. Wide isles (going to need it because of all the seniors) has the self checkouts, and the barcode scanner guns to make checking out fast. Down sides are the prices seem to be a bit higher then shop rite, and there are a ton of elderly people. read more
