The highlight of this location is a great pharmacy. The incredible downside is the body odor. It's so significant from a few people that it can induce gagging. My wife and I wanted to commend one of your employees for her competence and assistance. I am speaking about Rachel Anderson, the manager of the Northampton store deli department. We had an important function to oversee for 60 people. We decided to use the deli selections in your brochures. Rachel worked with us in making our various selections and when we arrived to pick-up our items they were ready and chilled in a shopping cart ready to purchase. In all my life, I didn't realize Stop & Shop was anything other than a gas station store. Yep, I was wrong. Haha In general, this place offers lots of brand name goods, so you can always find what you need. But the prices are way too high. To combat some of that, Stop & Shop offers a store brand for a decently lower price. Produce is usually fresh and they have a large organic section. The meats seem mostly safe and okay although I have yet to purchase that from them yet. Lots of check out lanes + self-check our options. This is an OK supermarket. It's got the standard stuff with the standard prices, but the one upside to it is that it has a Starbucks and a Pharmacy. I don't really know how I feel about getting pharmaceuticals from a Stop & Shop, especially since Walgreens is right across the street, but I won't comment on that. The biggest thing I buy is chicken breast, and I notice that in comparison to other grocery stores, it's about $2.89 when the average is $2 in Walmart, and $1.89 in Aldi's. The price differential can be seen in other parts of the store as well. I'm a rewards member, so I will get some benefits such as discounts and discounts on gas, but I don't think they're very substantial. The gas rewards gives you 10 cents off a per gallon after a certain threshold, but even with 10 cents off it usually ends up being the cost of Pride's gas down the road, so it's really not a benefit at all. I will still come here since it is so convenient with where I live, and Great Clips and Liquors44 are all in the same plaza. read more

This grocery store has a huge organic and vegetarian section! I like to drop in before my shift at work. The best days are when they have the salad bar ready in the morning. I love their salad bar, but it's usually but out too late for me to benefit from it. I wish they had plastic bags. read more

When it comes to grocery shopping I visit Stop & Shop locations our of convenience even though they are not my favorite stores. That being said, this particular Stop & Shop has a great selection of items and the staff here is really great. Recently I stopped in at this location to buy some flowers and I was greeted by an incredibly pleasant floral employee who made the bouquet look beautiful. In the end I was also surprised that I didn't have to shell out a fortune for the flowers. Overall, not a bad shop and conveniently located on King Street. read more

At first, I thought S'n'S was a standard chain grocer -- and I didn't expect much in the way of specialty items, organic produce, etc. In the 4 years I've been in Northampton, the store has steadily improved and broadened its offerings. All along, I found the staff helpful and since the labor action against the corporation, I am a bigger fan. These folks really work hard and deserve the support of the community. With the drug store across King St., this is a convenient location and a pleasant chore. read more

Meh. This store only gets 3 stars because it's an easy walk from my house and the only supermarket in downtown Northampton. They don't seem to know that their potential customers are all driving to Hadley in droves for TJ's and Whole Foods. Real nice selection of flowers at this stop n shop location. Anytime I forget my wife's birthday I stop over here real quick and they always have a huge selection of dirt cheap flowers and helium balloons. Roses. Carnations. All the varietals. Enough about the flowers, the food selection here is super too. Really fresh fish. I mean so fresh its practically still swimming in the case. Haddock. Tilapia. Cod cakes. Huge selection of produce, mayonaisses, oriental products, magazines, etc. They've got it all and this is coming from a big time foodie. I shop here over Big Y because the prices are lower. I moved my banking to Citizens, making it more convenient for me. I love the ring it up yourself option, as well as the scanner. Natures Promise is a budget friendly brand with many organic labels my family enjoys. I would have given them 5 stars, but unfortunately there are a few, rude employees at the deli counter. It's as if they feel your requests are too difficult for them to achieve. "Thinly sliced" shouldn't come with sneers, huffs, and rude looks. I like Stop & Shop in general for a couple of reasons: 1) It's a union shop, and 2) they have a dedicated health food section. This location is staffed with pleasant and helpful people. It's also open until midnight six days a week. (I'm a night owl, so this is a big plus for me.) The produce is high quality, with a good organic selection. Pretty standard as far as Stop & Shop goes, except for the restroom. Has an out-of-place Mediterranean decor. I would say it's too nice to be a restroom, except that the stalls' interior walls are quite appropriate (in that they're speckled with dried filth.) The deli is awesome. The frozen foods are awesome. The seasonal aisle is awesome. Lots of things are awesome, but the bathroom really offsets everything. If it were a wine, it would open peculiar and finish disturbing. read more

Generally has the best prices in town, but every time I go there, they are sold out of things I need - sometimes for weeks! Shelves have lots of empty space and holes, and this seems to be getting worse over the years. Pretty much your average supermarket, with a good selection of products, although they always seem to be out of something that I need. I'm not a fan of the deli, but that is due to the customers rather than the deli itself. It gets very pushy and rude at times. Produce is pretty good here with decent quality and good selection. Meats are just average. Dairy products are a little better than average, bigger selection and choices on similar items. read more
