This store has a lot going on - Make sure to become a loyalty member so you get all of the discounts. Do it yourself rather than going to customer service - because the customer service line takes a long time. And also, buyer beware- it costs $.10 per paper bag now so bring your reusable bags every time you shop. There is plenty of parking outside. For starters the people who staff the aisles are clueless about where anything is located - poorly trained and indifferent to customer service. But I'm really reviewing their frozen sliced peaches which are the WORST! Obviously the peaches were picked and frozen WAY before they were ripe so totally tasteless...the package says 'perfect for smoothies' which is probably the only way to enjoy these tasteless cardboard style peaches - a perfect complement to the non-existent customer service! read more

This place is awful. So I made a pick up order, $163. I didn't want S&S to substitute anything if they didn't have it in stock so when my order was ready and I went to pick it up they couldn't find 3 items so the amount I was charged was changed to $143 to reflect the 3 items that weren't available. This was Sunday 3/8/26. I check my bank account on my phone and I see TWO deductions from Stop&Shop, one for $163 and one for $143. So I call Stop&Shop and they proceed to tell me to call a 800#, which I do, and I get the worst "customer service" person I've ever spoken to in my life(just an added fyi). The mow-Ron at that 800# informed me that Stop&Shop puts a HOLD on the initial $163 BUT THEY STILL WITHDREW THE $143 FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT!! My bank account is now MINUS the $143, which is fine as it's what I ordered MINUS the 3 items that weren't in stock AND there is a HOLD on the initial pick up price, if ALL of the items I ordered were available, of $163. So the pick up order I did on my S&S app this past Sunday 3/8/26 has cost me $306!!!!!??????!!!???? The $163 that is on hold will be reversed in SEVEN TO TEN BUSINESS DAYS??? ARE YOU SHYTING(Sp. so it's not flagged) ME? This had been my go to store. I still go there sometimes because it has a decent selection and I know the store layout, however the customer service is non-existent. They do not have enough cashiers. I hate checking out myself and if I use the gadget to scan and shop invariably there are issues and nobody around to help quickly which negates any advantage. My other gripe is that the quality of the produce is inferior to Market Basket or Whole Foods. Bummer. read more

I have been a regular customer at the Stop & Shop, Swampscott store for the past fifteen years. Lately, the store has taken a downturn. The store isn't as clean or well-stocked as has been the case. One day I asked the clerk if there were any fresh scallions in the back, because the few bunches on the counter were beginning to rot. Yes, I said rot. After waiting for a while for her to return, I went about my shopping figuring that I'd have to go to another store for produce, but I went back to check. She and another fellow were at the scallions, removing the rotted stalks from the ones on the counter. She told me that there were no fresher ones. Other items were not in great shape. However, it's local to me, so you overlook things here and there, but this week, I had occasion to use the restroom. It was absolutely filthy! Obviously, it hadn't been attended to in days or longer. You shouldn't be selling groceries in a store with disgusting restrooms. Whomever is managing that store isn't managing very well. Now, I'm a former customer. read more

I like the Swampscott Stop & Shop as it has good product selection for what I'm looking for including a good assortment of kosher certified meats, Broadway's J2 pizza, various assorted Kedem products, as well as a good selection of organic foods. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. The only criticism I have is the men's restroom, which I've only been in twice (in the past four years I've visited the store), including today, but each time the bathroom smells dirty (reeks of urine), and the floor sticky. An easy fix, to make the overall shopping experience more pleasant. :) Overall, 4-stars. read more

Why do so many others have such dissatisfaction with the Stop&Shop in Swampscott? This location is decent size and the most renovated and local supermarket for the residents of Swampscott and some of Salem. There is another Stop&Shop in Peabody, that is only about 7 minutes away, but that's not a Super Stop&Shop and doesn't have nearly the selection and variety of this one. That one is also much busier, cramped and not nearly as clean and user friendly as this store. Plus, with easy access from Paradise Rd it is a convenient stop and the only grocery store in Swampscott. This specific location has a pharmacy, huge, dedicated Kosher section and a large variety of both groceries, Nature's Valley, and general merchandise. Plenty of technology, including many self serve checkout stations along with scanner guns that are available at many Stop&Shop locations, but not at other supermarkets. This store has friendly employees, who do a fabulous all around job. Dominique, the front end manager, was especially helpful when there were two problems at the self scan area for my some of my coupons. Regular upkeep is also well maintained and in general the store is extremely orderly and organized. Large selection, especially considering the few other options in the direct area, and lots of parking too. I like this Stop&Shop and would suggest it. This Stop & Shop location is by far THE WORST one of all I've been to within this supermarket chain as far as keeping sale items stocked on their shelves. So it seems their grocery manager needs lessons how to compensate to order larger quantities of sale items so they don't run out. Customers then have to go to the service counter to get rain checks for missing sale items which happens to me all too often at this Swampscott location (and then it takes them more than a week or two before they finally get the missing items stocked back on the shelves). And complaining to the store manager has done no good at all, nor has it done any good sending an email online to their corporate headquarters of which I have never heard anything back from them (except an automatic response thanking me for my input.... and nothing else of course). I gave them many chances and they blew it.... so here I am on Yelp hoping to get their attention and wake them up to stock their shelves better especially with sale items! I have attached a few photos of a few missing sale items for which I've needed to get rain checks. I wish I had a dollar for every "OOPS! OUT OF STOCK" sign displayed on MANY shelves throughout this store! I gave the location one star, but if I could have given it ZERO stars, I certainly would have! There is a really bad experiment starting here -- and it needs to stop! As a customer, whenever I am walking down the aisle that has Energy Drinks on it, there is a loud LOUD recorded voice that shouts at me, "THANK YOU FOR SHOPPING RED BULL!" I wasn't shopping Red Bull -- and never will, because of this. Stop & Shop used to be my go-to store (it is the closest to me). But their prices and their willingness to abuse their own customers (Come on!!!) and those poor employees who have to cashier and bag for hours near that stupid recording is obvious and indisputable. The CDC recommends everyone where face masks and gloves when shopping. Just got back from Stop & Shop in Swampscott and they allow customers in the store without those protections. Worse than that, half the store employees, including the two who checked out our groceries and packed our bags had no masks or gloves. It's a pandemic. Do NOT Mess with My Beloved Baby Back Ribs. My wife and I stopped shopping here due to the higher prices and low quality. Well, the weekly flyer had a few things of interest with one thing very dear to my pallette Baby Back Ribs.. We shopped, got the goods put away and went about our day. Here is where the trouble starts. Getting ready to cook my beloved baby backs. With the marinade all set, I cut into the CRYOVAC package and with one sniff I damn near fell on the floor.. So, Me being Me, I grabbed the slip, the package and the rotten meat.. Here is the juicy part. I asked for the manager and he came down to listen to my complaint.. All I said was stuff your nose in this.. Think it's a bit RIPE!!!! Now, here is the bad part. The sales sticker was conveniently place over the freshness date that was Sell By Oct. 2, 2011.... FUBAR!!!!!!!!! I did get my money back and yes, this will be the last time I Stop to Shop.. Did not need Help Me Hank on this one..... read more

The deli department needs to be trained how to slice meat. I am a New Yorker so I know delis, have worked in delis and this place just doesn't know what it's doing. Deli meat should be sliced thin. I like and have requested that my ham be sliced thin like newspaper. To do so, you set the slicer to "0" and slide the meat through slowly... It's not rocket science... I explained this to the clerk and got an attitude. She was lazy and didn't want to push the slicer an extra few times... If I wanted a ham steak I would have picked one up in the meat department. The reason to slice meat so thin is done for several reasons, first it cuts the muscle fibers of the meat, taking out the toughness. When making a sandwich it is necessary to slice each slice thin and then layering it on top of each other in folds leaves a lot of air in the stack of meat, this does two things, it makes the sandwich look bigger but also makes it easier to eat, again because of much smaller muscle fibers. Third you cut meat thin because it is a delicacy, it is supposed to be enjoyed in thin morsels, it shows the artistry and skill of the deli clerk. Perhaps Boarshead needs to train them better? Their product is superior and they know deli meat. In any case, if you can get a decent deli clerk, you speak slowly, and if they are willing to listen you have a chance of being able to make a sandwich you will enjoy. read more

In the overall scheme of things the Swampscott Stop and Shop gets good marks in my opinion. I live close by and shop there weekly for the circular specials. They have a good raincheck policy (they do not expire) and the sale prices are very competative with Shaws and Market Basket. Their regular prices are a bit on the higher side. Their in-store bakery is a bit above average and their seafood section has a nice selection, unlike the Peabody store that does not have one. The Kosher section has a good variety of products, albeit pricy, and the "International foods" section does as well. There is a good selection of Indian simmer sauces from the UK and Canada. The automated checkout lines are often slower than the manned lanes. Their software sucks. It frequently calls for "assistance" which is often slow in responding. Management is competent and responsive to my needs and requests. 4/5 Stars...... MC read more

Worst. Grocery. Store. Ever. I'm here midday on a Thursday to pick up some odds and ends and I have to order stuff from the deli. To my surprise there is only one person in front of me with two people behind the counter. Well one is slicing up deli products to put out to take and doesn't stop to help the line of customers that starts to accrue.the other helps the first person who orders FIVE DIFFERENT DELI ITEMS. If I didn't know any better I would swear we were on island time. 15 minutes later I finally order my deli meat. And the wait is exponentially worse on a weekend. I only come here once in a blue moon to get quick stuff but it's so damn slow I can't justify it anymore. No idea how it's in business. Whole foods or market basket it will be. read more

I had to return something this morning-the product I bought tasted awful. The man working costumer service was so nice and gave me my money back, we chatted for a minute or two and he was very kind. It is hard dealing with the public day in and day out- every time I go in there they are so helpful and friendly. One day I couldn't find a yogurt I was looking for and a gentlemen went out into the back area and tracked some down for me that had just come in on a truck. Grew up with Stop & Shop on Long Island, so this place was a blast from the past for me. Having been spoiled living in Central New York for the past 10 years, where Wegmans, the king of all supermarkets is located, I thought I would be let down. Well, it's not Wegmans, but it's pretty good. Has a lot of items that I really like, especially in the deli department. I mean where else can you find olive loaf! It's December 5th, a random day, at 5pm and the dairy section is out of anything less than quart-sized containers of heavy cream. The bananas are all green, except for the tiny plastic wrapped bruised ones. And I picked up some dried morels thinking the marker said $3 something -- they're $9.99.. for 1/2 oz. I also couldn't get a scanner out of the display on arrival, which significantly slows down departure time via self checkout. Is it broken? I don't know, but it's at least the 2nd time in recent history. I think from now on when I need cat litter, or when I don't feel like going to Whole Foods, I'll be going to Shaw's in Lynn. read more

I hate this Stop and Shop like a fat kid hates celery sticks. One time I had to bring back chicken wings twice in one day. I thought it an anomaly when I bought the Buffalo Wings and opened up the package and found BBQ wings.. you'd think these dip-shits would get there sauces right, since they both have very distinctive smells. No. Twice I bought the pre-packaged Buffalo Wings and got BBQ. Idiots. Today however I vowed never to go to this Stop N Shop ever again, let alone have my girlfriend stop there on the way home. She picked up a half dozen Maple Leaf hot dogs from the deli, which are usually pretty good. I wen't to take one out and throw it on my George Forman and the thing had this nasty, slimy feel to it. I still wan't to vomit just thinking about it, to tell you the truth. Yuck... Never again, Stop and Shop, never again. read more

This store has been in a slow decline since they opened. Thought things would improve after the remodel but, they just got worse. Impossible to find anything and they do not restock on a regular basis. Just when you think you got the hang of the new layout, things are moved once again. The produce is almost always rotten and the meat department has a terrible selection. Who has the time to spend hours in a grocery store searching for items only having to go to yet another store to complete your shopping list. I love Whole Foods but, they are a little pricey. Would love to see a Hannaford's in this area. Being generous with the one star rating since zero is not an option. read more

I've used this store as main grocery location for the past 10 years or so. The people who work there are generally pretty nice and the checkout moves along pretty well as long as the person ahead of you isn't trying to squeeze the last millicent out of a fistful of coupons they forgot to give the checkout person in the first place. I was surprised at all the one-star reviews but if they don't have what you want it would be annoying I suppose. Personally, it's a bright sunny day when I find they have IBC Root Beer (the non-diet variety) in stock, but aside from that they've generally had what I want, when I want it. (Or, maybe I've just learned to want what they have, when they have it...) In the same sense that the monster in Alien was a creation of true, if horrific, beauty, the marketing genius(es) who decided it was time to rearrange every single aisle in the store over the last month, reshuffling everything so nobody has the faintest clue where to find anything any more, should receive some sort of reward. I'll learn the new system eventually, but it didn't help when I popped in for a quick few items on a tight time schedule a couple of weeks ago, and it took twice as long as it should have to locate what I needed, among the sea of other confused people. read more

This store isn't the worst, but its far from great. My complaint is that when I buy frozen products from this store, about 25% of the time its obvious that the product was allowed to complete melt and then was re-frozen. What's up with that? Its particularly annoying when the Smart Ones ice cream sundaes, which are not cheap, are damaged. I'll open the individually wrapped sundae, and all the contents are smooshed into one side of the container, the topping and the crust are completely mixed into the ice cream, and the ice cream is icy. This product was obviously left out long enough to fully melt and turn to soup before being put into the freezer case. This issue is annoying with ice cream...its rather off-putting with frozen meat. They need to improve their food handling procedures here... read more

I just wanted to purchase a few groceries and five food items did not display prices as required by law. Buy one; get one free was not available as 1/2 price on single purchase as required by law. Store manager was not familiar with food pricing laws. Do not bother with Consumer Relations if you want to be treated nicely and fairly. just adding another complaint since my last one months ago. I should have spoke up right then & there to the deli man. Heavy set man who moves slow was cutting turkey slices, puts it on scale, turns his head about 2 inches from the meat and COUGHS WITHOUT COVERING HIS MOUTH. He did the same damn thing to the bulk turkey. I was shocked and looked at the only other customer standing there thinking it was for her but it wasn't and she didn't even see it. I was really grossed out by all the brown meat in the steak section even though it was reduced they would still try to sell it. I even saw some flies buzzing around it all. I will just go to Market Basket in Danvers and the drug stores like CVS and Wallgreeens for quick purchases. This store also will be doing away with plastic bags coming September 1st and I don't like to carry around gross reusable bags with me and when it rains or snows paper will not work. I can carry more items with plastic because of the convenient handles. read more

I came to Swampscott where I'm originally from and wanted to get some Kosher foods that I cannot find where I am living currently. They had a whole aisle of kosher foods. It was cool. Also in the deli, they sell knishes what I was looking for. They're two for $3. They the kind that I ate when I was a kid. I went to a kosher butcher shop in Peabody, but there's weren't authentic. These were and the price was great. I didn't mind paying a little extra for something I was looking for. The store is humongous and very clean and everyone's nice in there. I was happy I found what I was looking for. They offered me that I could buy them in the case or Frozen. I left very happy. read more

This complain is not about store employees, but regarding one of the managers. Today as I was walking in the shop, I was approached by one of the managers, whose name is Rick Lepage. He asked me what I was doing, to which I answered that I was just walking around. He then told me I was "freaking out everyone in here walking around like this". He sounded reproachful and intimidating, with a certain degree of condescension which I did not appreciate. Finally, I had to show him my walking app, and explained to him that I was merely walking around exercising, just so he could leave me be without kicking me out. As we were walking away from one another, he issued no apology. I am a Swampscott resident who shops here regularly. I also try to maintain 10000 walking-steps a day to stay healthy, which is by no man's standard a capital crime. However, today I felt like I just committed something horrible to be treated this way. My crime was walking around in Stop & Shop, I am not kidding, walking around in a supermarket is a crime! I filed a complain to the CS center, two other store managers handled the situation by attempting to justify Rick's wrongdoing. They said I was "walking around not buying anything, so people expressed concern about me." I found this justification to be ludicrous, why would people express concerns about me for walking around? Isn't that what everyone is doing in Stop & Shop? Or must I be harassed each time upon entering the store without making any purchases? read more

Just like any other supermarket, it's hit or miss. Some days its in and out and your good. However, today, for example, I'm trying to pick out some Chobani yogurt, and this woman, flap jawwing on her cell phone, squeezes in between me and the yogurt! I paused, took a breather, really wanted to grab a gallon of milk and pour it over her newly streaked hair, but I didn't.... And the people from England who drive their carriages on the opposite side of the isles; there should be bumpers on these things. Very expensive too. Why did you change the store so drastically? There is no logic to the layout and. It takes forever to find anything, Many things are no longer available or rarely on the shelf and in miniscule amounts such as basic things like lowfat cheddar slices in the dairy case or Barowfsky organic english muffins and oat bread. The deli is still great including most of the staff at the deli and is the main reason I go to this store. Produce dept always been pretty good for a mainstream grocer. The floral dept has been great with specific employees being stellar.Gas points etc are great and so is the card for sale prices and so the location and quality made the slightly higher prices worth it However, the inconvenience with the remodel would have been totally fine if items had not become less available and the time spent trying to locate anything continues to be unacceptable. Usually I can learn a store quickly but this store has become such a time consuming frustrating experience and there is so little continuity when it comes to the layout now. So many people are confused about where things are including the staff. I am too busy to spend twice the time in the market and continue to have to go elsewhere to get everything. market basket is starting to look more appealing because with a glance at least you know what the aisles are about and the items will be in stock. read more

Stop & Shop (S&S) Swampscott, MA. Why I ask is this entity run so poorly? Management is the obvious answer. Without reservation, this person is the personification of the Peter Principal. Empty shelves of common products such as milk. Sale items such as yogurt for one, on the day or two, after the commencement of the sale, are not available. Oh and as for competitive pricing. Fage Yogurt at $1.69 is far above that of even Whole Foods, and the leader in what truly is a customer oriented, price competitive super market, Market Basket with uniform pricing throughout it's stores, every day price at $1.19 is evidence of this S&S's desire to fulfill their advertisement of competitiveness. As for the Fruit and Produce Dept. Each Item must be examined prior to purchase, as often age has eroded the quality. Additionally, incorrect or even worse no indication of price is displayed on the price bar below. Who is to responsible? As President Truman said, "The buck stops here." Without question, the manager. The rule which Market Basket, Whole Foods etc. instills in their employees of saying hello by general, Dept. personnel, and cahiers of saying hello and Thank You is non existent. Today I waited in line for the singular clerk at the Service counter and asked, "Do you sell U S Stamps. Her reply, "No we only sell Forever Stamps, and only by the books." My response, "I'd like to have one-hundred stamps." "Oh, is that --- (pause, pause, pause, looking skyward) five books?" she asked? "I'm not aware of the number in each book?" "Well lets see, twenty to a book so that would be (skyward looking, long pause) five books." She takes the books and taps, taps, taps, taps, taps, each into the register over a lengthy amount of time, and says forty-nine dollars. I have a check and ask, "Should I make this out to S&S" no reply. Nevertheless I insert the name S&S on the appropriate line and hand it to her. Amazingly she asks, "Would you like money back." OMG is this a half hour comedy of errors. I explain the check is made out for the exact amount, whereupon she looks dumbfounded. She hands me the stamps and did not say Thank You. I just picked up a sheet cake I had ordered the other day for a company function. The message on the cake was incorrect, so I asked the woman to fix it. She botched it so badly; it looked as if a child swept his/her fingers across the frosting. Anyone can make mistakes but the attitude from both the women behind the counter was incredible - - as if I were putting them out! I need the cake for tomorrow, so I had to purchase it; otherwise, I would have walked away and left it. Anyhow, I have just finished working on the frosting so it looks more presentable but I did not pay to have a botched cake so I could spend time fixing it myself. I have experienced small mistakes with cakes from the Swampscott Stop & Shop bakery in the past; however, nothing major, so I continued to order from this bakery.
