I rarely do a lot of shopping all at once, so I am in here 1-2x week. The guys in the produce department are very nice, they always say hello and will move out of the way even for those of us just carrying their little basket. I believe there is a new-ish manager (young, tall, runner's build with reddish-blonde hair) who I have seen a lot over the last 6-7 months, he is really nice, always has a smile and is happy to help with a question if necessary. I have not purchased anything from the bakery since finding ants in a box of donuts over the summer.... and that was after taking several bites of one. I didn't even have time for a photo, I just zoomed that box right out to the trash. If you "need" to satisfy your sugar cravings, stick to Entenmanns, Hostess or Little Debbie. The one thing I wish they would have all set each morning is to have the self-checkout lanes turned on and ready to go. When it is 7:30/7:45 and they are not working yet - or maybe only ONE is - this makes people unhappy!!! This store used to be so much better than it is today. The employees used to be happy and helpful, the store used to be cleaner, and there used to actually be registers open when you went to checkout. Now the store is dirty, you can consistently find items on the shelf well past their expiration dates, they usually only have one register open, and the employees are miserable. A key example is Alex in their "courtesy" booth. He is extremely unfriendly and rude and looks incredibly unhappy. He will even publicly say that he doesn't like to talk to people. Maybe the customer service field isn't for him! I used to enjoy shopping there (when their previous manager was in place) but now favor Shaw's or Market Basket. read more

Wow! This is the biggest supermarket I've ever shopped in. They have a huge selection of products, including products that aren't stocked at the normal sized Stop & Shop that I usually shop at. The aisles seemed wider & longer than at other stores. I'm impressed. It seems like the type of store that makes visiting for one item turn into a cart full of stuff that you "needed" far too easily, so be sure to bring a shopping list with you. read more

I've had to come back to the store to return bad food the past 3 times I've shopped there. Expired food, rotten produce (that was deceivingly fine on the outside). Tonight's let-down? Frozen Kahiki General Tso's that I bought last week (December). When did it expire? MARCH!! Why the F is there food on their shelves that expired 9 MONTHS AGO?? "Why would you give Stop & Shop 4 stars?" you may be asking right now. Well here are the reasons why I absolutely love this Stop & Shop over Shaw's, Hannaford's, and even some other Stop & Shops. 1. Easy Shop - you scan your S&S card, pick up a scanner, your shopping bags, and go to town. This scanner helps make your shopping experience a whole lot easier. How? You basically scan & bag your items while you shop, so that when you're done, all you do is go to a self-checkout station, pay and you're done. BONUS: - Extra Savings exclusively with the EasyShop - also you can scroll through any sales that you are interested in, so that you get the best prices. - Easy remove item function. - Helps you budget - it gives you the total of your cart and when scanning items, it gives you the SALES price (so you don't overestimate - no surprises at the end!). 2. They sell S&S reusable shopping bags (although I haven't bought this 'cause they seem really thin, I don't think I've ever seen these at Shaw's... who's greener here?). When they start coming out with more durable reusable bags, I'll purchase one for sure. 3.They DO have a recycle bin for old plastic shopping bags. 4. The biggest seller for me here is that they are OPEN 24 HOURS beginning Sunday at 9 am (?) to Saturday 11 pm. Which is perfect for my schedule. Where else can you go grocery shopping past 10 or 11 pm on a weeknight? 5. Although I quit coffee and don't use either of these services, they have a Dunkin' Donuts here as well as a Citizen's Bank. 6. They have a pharmacy here. (Also don't use this service). 7. UPromise Points on various items! I can help save for my baby brother's college tuition while I can feed myself. 8. Always friendly and helpful staff. 9. Seems to have better prices than other competitors. 10. Decent organic section as compared to Shaw's. It's not Whole Foods, but it suffices esp. for the price. 11. NO CROWD!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that I don't have to elbow some hag to get to my produce, I don't have to play bumper carts to get down the aisle to get what I want, and I don't have to wrestle someone for my meat. Very rarely is this place crowded. Even during the Nor'easter, when all other supermarkets were apparently mauled, this store was pleasantly quiet and I was able to shop with ease. 12. Huge Ass Parking lot - you never have to fight for a spot. 13. TECHNOLOGY! This place is loaded with gadgets. I mean there's #1 the Easy Shop tool. But they also have those scales in the produce section, where you can measure your produce, find the barcode for the item, and print out your sticker with the weight & price to slap on to your bag of produce. They have one of those touch screens at the Deli counter where you can put in what you want from the Deli and while you shop, your selection will be prepared for you for pick up. Much easier than having to wait for the Deli guy to call your number, make your deli selection and wait for him/her to get you the product one by one, especially if there is a group of others in front of you (not that there ever really is that many people ahead of you anyway). 14. CLEAN - they are very clean. Ever step into a supermarket and you can just feel dirtiness? Yes, I hate that feeling. When I walk into S&S I am satisfied to have that clean feeling. I know retail can be a stressful business, but I really have to comment on the unprofessional behavior of one of the employees in this particular store. This woman was overheard speaking to employees in a derogatory manner using some very colorful language. I was later to find out that she is the non-perishable items MANAGER for the store. This woman has no business speaking to employees nor anyone else in that manner and seems to have a serious anger management issue judging by her behavior. I was also informed when I inquired as to who she was that this was not her first time acting in such a manner. She certainly needs to be reprimanded for acting like this in public. If she is this unhappy with her job, perhaps she should seek employment elsewhere rather than verbally abuse the help. Disgusting. read more

i was planning on giving them a fair review, but im PO'ed at you Stop and plop at first the review was going to highlight the meatman, always laughing, having a good time, giving me and the misses free cheese to appease us while our deli order was being complied. well this weekend i went and decided i wasnt going to sit around 20 minutes waiting for the chance for some free cheese, i used the auto-system deli taker, not a good idea. so i put in our 4 items at certain weights and thicknesses, sure this is a nice touch, however, when i got home, i looked over the turkey and they had obv changed it with a different kind, maybe even *gasp* house brand, not what i paid for. so is this bait and switch common? a few months ago i order a few items also by the machine and also got something i didnt want, a full 9 bucks a pound worth. not buying that so i left it there, not my problem. follow the directions and try not to deceive and ill buy it everytime. this time, no luck shysters! ok, well how about the rest of the store man? good question. the rest of the layout of S&S is identical to every other S&S, for the most part. i went to one in western CT a while ago and it was surreal how the aisles matched our local one, i guess thats good. the international items are not as plentiful as the shaws one block away but they do have boars head, hence why we schlep here every sunday, i guess now i have to watch them like a hawk, a knowledgeable lunch-meat hawk..... read more

The Stop & Shop Deli sucks! My wife says says when she orders coldcuts, They just cut it however they want ignoring the selection she makes thick or thin etc. Also when she orders at the kiosk, they almost never, ever, fill the order. When she comes back she has to tell them that she's waiting for an order. She says she can't remember the last time they didn't FK this up. She says she has written to them a few times and there has been zero improvment. If you're looking for hassle free convenience don't go to this deli. Stop & Shop understaffs the deli and this why they suck. read more

The bakery department is awful. Most of the items have been previously frozen and some items repackaged with a future expiration date. I bought a four package of cannolis and the packaged date was the same date I went to the store. When I got home the cannolis shells where soft, indicating that they been sitting around and the filling had gone sour. This is a gimmick many grocery stores use, unfortunately, having worked for a grocery store in the past. read more

Stop and Shop- though you aren't my favorite grocery store ever, and unfortunately for you, located next door to Russo's, I really can't complain. I enjoy your automatic checking out devices that allow me to check out my groceries as I go and then use self check. It's great since I never really have to get more than a few things. It also helps prevent me from having to stand in line. This alleviates the former problem where you would not scold customers who had way more than 12 (like, 40) items and insisted on standing in the express check out lane. Be thankful you instituted the new system before I got to give a review. I'm usually pretty amused by your selection. Particularly the international aisle, and the beverages aisle. The Red Box machine was a cute touch, too. On the whole, you could probably make my experience better, but it hasn't been a horrible experience joining you. read more

I think I have finally found my grocery store. Sadly, it's in Watertown, not really near where I live, so I don't think I'll be going here to do my weekly shopping. Why do I love this Stop and Shop in particular? Well, it's HUGE! I have a thing for really big grocery stores, and this one definitely falls into that category. I find grocery shopping to be a lot of fun, so the bigger and the more to choose from, the better. Going down the aisles, there are more brands and flavors to choose from for everything. The produce section is gigantic. Also, there's a natural foods section right next to the produce. It's like a mini Whole Foods store within Stop and Shop. The cashier was friendly, the floors were clean, the carts weren't old and rickety like they are at most stores... So why not five stars? Well, the bakery section was lame. For such a giant store, you'd think they'd have more muffins to choose from. But I'll be back. read more

Many vegetables were old and not taken care of (no longer firm). Employees covering up produce and upset at us when we uncovered them to grab stuff. Only 1 staffed checkout register open and a couple automatic checkout registers open. All with several customers waiting in line. Extra staff was literally just hanging around chatting with friends even though they looked to see that people were having trouble with the automatic checkout machines which was causing even more delays. read more

Ironically, there are 2 Stop&Shop locations in Watertown. This one straddles the Waltham city line along Pleasant Street in the far west section of the Town / City of Watertown (did they decide if it was a town or city yet?), and is probably (besides, my local, incredible Stop&Shop in Walpole) the largest Stop&Shop I've been to yet, that's anywhere even relatively close to the city (city stores always seem to be dreary and sad, and this one is always happy!). In addition, they have recently been remodeled to fit the new look of Stop&Shop and have such a great store! The store has 24 aisles, SCANNER GUNS, self checkout, amazing staff and a great variety of everything you'd need (besides a few of those Whole Foods or Wegmans only products). Suzanne is one of the people working in the front end area who is phenomenal. Not only is she friendly, kind and helpful, but she cares about customer satisfaction and actively keeps the lines to a minimum (lately, I have seen more and more front end managers not caring about when lines are going into the aisles!). Normally good prices on just about everything and the store is extremely clean and organized. I would be surprised if anyone found any expired foods or anything ringing up incorrectly (a commonality at some other grocery stores). Even though it's in Watertown, everyone who lives in the Newton / Waltham area should DEFINITELY either shop here or at the other Watertown location (literally, 3 minutes from here!). They are both great, and definitely two of the best grocery stores in the area. 5 stars for this S&S! read more

The rotisserie chicken salad at the deli counter is one of the best I have ever had, it's a must! Great on the stop and shop rye bread!

The employees are really nice here. I bring my baby girl here and half of them know her and in turn, she knows them right back and loves shopping here. So why no 5 stars? Well I used to come here because it was cheaper than Shaws but ever since their renovation, prices have jumped significantly. Boar's head lunchmeats alone have jumped 30% since they renovated. The other thing is my overall impression of the store in the last 4-5 months. Prior to that time, many employees seemed happy and friendly. Since that time, I could smell the metaphorical stench of people being squeezed at their job by some new corporate initiative. The employees smile and chat for about two sentences but then get the look of fear of retribution and end the conversation before they get in trouble. It could be all in my imagination but the change is palpable. Due to the aforementioned changes, I will be switching to Market Basket, whenever they decide to open in Waltham. read more

Stop and shop is one of the greatest supermarkets in Boston Massachussetts for any Floridian who is looking for a place familiar to Publix. I have found this grocery store very neat and clean, especially the produce section. People at the deli are very friendly. I couldn't help myself not thinking about Publix supermarket. If you are familiar to the one at Hunt Club, seminole area in Florida, then you know what i am talking about. I stopped going a long time ago and drive past it to go to market basket in Waltham and every time I am driving home past it again am glad I drove an extra 20 mins. What is motivating this review is I had to get 2 items in the evening, no one to be found to help find it and of 16 checkout isles only one is open with a long line behind and everyone upset. All 5-stars go to Daniel. My family and I have been shopping at Stop & Shop since 1986 - when Doritos launched their Cool Ranch flavor -what a summer! Not once, in all my time spent shopping there has an employee ever had the common courtesy to ask if I needed help finding anything. ( Whole foods, Trader Joes, Star Market I'm looking at you guys too). Thankfully, that all changed when Daniel walked into my life. This noble man caught me like a deer in headlights desperately looking for some random cleaning product that I knew very little about. I was in dire need for some direction but I expected another lost afternoon going on some wild goose chase. (By the way: why hasn't anyone thought of a super market search kiosk yet ???) Daniel didn't even know which specific product I was referring to either, but you can bet that didnt stop him! He marched down the aisle like a Spartan ready for battle; armed and ready to destroy anything that got in his way. He was able to find an even better product than what I was originally after. Later on he spotted me again moseying down the aisle desperately looking for coconut oil. Again, Daniel to the rescue. Not to mention that I also noticed Daniel helping other patrons as well. This employee is a diamond in the rough. This man can single handedly change the stop & shop brand around for the better. Thank God for helpful people like Daniel making our grocery stores better - one item at a time. read more

Each year around Easter time, we Europeans do a lot of eating, cooking and baking calling for fresh basket cheese and ricotta. It irritates me to no end, each and every year, that Stop and Shop only orders 1 case of fresh basket cheese for each (12 cheese baskets in each case) store no matter how loud one complains that more should be ordered. When the cheese comes in, they get bought out in a matter of minutes!!!!!. What idiot buyer would be so stupid as to think that there are only 12 families between Watertown, Waltham and Newton? How blind is Stop and Shop's headquarters that they allow such shallow ordering for each store lacking consideration for their customers? Of course, there's plenty of Mexican/Spanish cheese items to select from which really makes me feel that Stop and Shop is discriminating against our nationalities and the products we use each and every day and at holiday times. If I find that Market Basket has this fresh cheese basket, it'll be goodbye Stop and Shop and hello Market Basket. I've had enough aggravation from this experience to last me a lifetime!! read more
