Decided to stop by at Trader Joe's before heading back home & it was my first time going to this Trader Joe's location in Needham! I am familiar with this area but never visited this location before today. Much smaller location compared to the ones I usually go to. Though on the smaller side, this did not mean at all that they had less items. I found the store to be well stocked & was able to find exactly what I was looking for! I love this Trader Joe's, it is one of my favorites in the Greater Boston area. They are always fully stocked with everything and the staff are literally some of the kindest people I have ever met in my life. I feel extremely happy when I come to this store. Also their frozen food rocks. They have tons of cool options from different cultures. My favorites are the indian dishes, flatbreads, spanakopita, and orange chicken. I always end up buying like 200 pounds of food here and spending more than I should, and it's still relatively cheap. I love this store with every fiber of my being. read more

I like this Trader Joe's in particular because it's not big and so it's not overwhelming. It is a big crowded because it's a smallest store, but it's not overwhelming with the amount of items and stuff in it. The only downside of this one in particular is the parking is terrible and people are very disrespectful in the parking lot they don't like to give anybody a chance to get anything out of the parking space sometimes they'll actually sit there and wait behind you For whoever they dropped off come back out but other than that it's a really good store is clean it's fresh. The Needham store is very well-stocked and laid out well. The location closest to me is West Newton, but that store is tiny and parking is a hot mess (yes, crazier than the parking can be in Needham) so I will drop by when I am nearby. I stopped in last week in search of caramel chips and christmas sprinkles, BOTH were in stock whereas both were out-of-stock in West Newton. I went shopping there and entire frozen food aisle blocked off with some water puddles... guy keeping people accessing and carriages on floor blocking??? I asked him why not mop up puddles to allow sales of items by customers? Told me gas to be professionally cleaned? This is twice I have seen this... hire a refrigeration contractor to eliminate the water puddles? I came in and immediately spoke to a gentleman. I don't know his name but he was standing next to the customer service desk and he asked if he could help me and I explained myself three times and he still didn't get it. Apparently he's new although I think they should check for wind tunnel. Anyway, everything happens for a reason right? So I just started a conversation with this lovely lady behind the desk name Regina. She was so incredibly helpful. We had to make a few pitstops along the way for products cause I was remembering like grocery store. Tourette's oh I need this oh that's on the other side oh I need that. Oh that's on that side so it was a little confusing for a bit but she hung in there like a true champ. I just want to thank her from the bottom of my heart. What a fabulous employee Trader Joe's has in HER. They were out of a few items that I specifically came there for but I didn't leave empty-handed four bags, three bags of food and one bag of water 120 bucks. The only real bummer was one of my favorite products they discontinued. I hope they bring it back it's the salmon-ish cream cheese. A spoonful. of heaven in my opinion. Although I am a huge proponent of Trader Joe's, this store does not have an alcohol section. I think it would be helpful for TJ's to advertise that more clearly, as that might be the very reason for someone's visit. Other than that, it was a nice store. This is my go-to Trader Joe's. The staff and customer service is top notch. But the parking lot is a nightmare. Like Xanadu crazy. And I wish this store had the mini-carts like the West Newton store. It's either a basket or a large carriage. A mini-cart would be so much better. read more

I'm torn, just like the sad pie crusts we purchased. On the one hand this place introduced me to delicious Cara Cara pink oranges and very strange Plumcots/Apriplums (these are not the same thing folks haha). However, as Matt H. mentioned this place is frequently out of many basics. All of the employees here are also super friendly and I love trying their samples of the day. This location is very small so they have limited inventory they can carry unfortunately. Not even sure what I was thinking the week of Thanksgiving expecting to find some last minute items for an apple pie. We first attempted to find a basic apple pie to avoid the DIY baking. No luck, only fruit tarts available. So we hunted down ingredients for making the pie ourselves. We flagged down an employee to find some flour, brown sugar, pie crusts and marinade. Many of the shelves were completely bare! They were in the process of unloading a shipment that just arrived. We only ended up purchasing a set of 2 pie crusts and marinade (not for baking pie). We had to stop by Star Market instead another day. So we will just use TJs to supplement our regular grocery trip visits. Now back to those sad pie crusts... It nearly caused a disaster day of Thanksgiving when we attempted to roll it out. BOTH OF THEM BROKE! Thankfully the in laws were prepared with extra crusts on hand to finish off the pie. We don't have Trader Joe's in Hawaii, so it is a real treat to shop here. It is all about bringing home the dark chocolate covered pretzels! And, plenty more items to choose from. I mean the staff here, 10/10, go above and beyond as they are so incredibly friendly and helpful. The store is clean and spotless, well organized and easy to locate anything you need. The store is small but mighty and packs through and through, they are constantly re-stocking. They do a great job at managing crowds and lines when this pertains to covid, and even have senior and high risk hours from 9am-10am each morning, heads up. The only disadvantage of this store is I wish they were open earlier, also just a heads up and FYI they don't carry alcohol. Enjoy your TJs experience :) read more

I find their pricing to be competitive. They carry maybe or two items for a particular product. I guess they make deals with suppliers where they limit the selection in return for a better pricing. Sounds good to be me. It keeps my food bill down. I particularly like their frozen fish; cod haddock, salmon. I usually get one or two meals out of each package. Even though the fish is frozen, the price is right. The store is clean and the employee are friendly. read more

The store can be a little crowded in the morning. You need to rush because there's tons of other people trying to get other things. The store is also a little small for personal preference, but other than those things it's amazing there. They have mostly everything you need, as well as amazing and friendly staff who will greet you when they open! read more

Honestly this Trader Joe's is probably the best in the area. It's a little further away from my place but totally worth the trip. My local Joe's is the one in newton which is about a quarter of the size of this one. The parking lot at this location can be a pain at busier times so that's why I didn't give a full 5/5 but I'm a regular for sure! In general I love getting my groceries here,simply, because of the unique selection of products and the many healthy options. It's also far more affordable than Whole Foods. My favorite part... they have a couple of spices that were "made in South Africa" (my home) which always puts a smile on my face! read more

I can't say enough about the wonderful wines at trader Joe's, I have found superb wines across the spectrum: reds, whites, roses etc. at very affordable prices. TJ's makes deals around the world with named vineyards and producers to private label undersold or residual vintages as well as partners with small local vintners to bring it's customers very good quality wines at considerably less expense. I have found the people in the wine department to be very helpful, knowledgeable and have frequently ask their opinions on new wines to try which almost always ends in finding another new delightful wine. read more

Trader Joe's contributes food to the Newton Freedge. As a thank you, the Newton Freedge is giving every contributing business a gift card to another participating business. I tried my hardest to give one to Trader Joe's in Needham (forgetting the woman's name) and she adamantly refused saying that giving to the Freedge is a gift to them, knowing that the food will be used. She said I should give the gift card to someone who really needs it. I was humbled and impressed by her attitude. There aren't a ton of grocery stores in the area (that I know of) that aren't too far away and affordable, but Trader Joe's fits that description. Really like shopping at this Trader Joe's as it's right by a CVS, so I can do most of my shopping in that area. Inside, the people are friendly, and the store is always neat and orderly. Typically shop there for baby carrots, chips + salsa, dark chocolate covered pretzels, and the chocolate covered espresso beans. The gluten-free jojos are decent as well, though some people have told me that it doesn't taste like much and has the texture of sand (but to each their own). Pretty similar to the other Trader Joe's I've shopped at (both within and out of state). Despite the 'Wine & Spirits' tag, this Trader Joe's does NOT sell wine and spirits, so if you're looking for that, go next door. read more

Honestly if I can give this location less then a star I would. Their customer service skills toward Black People are horrible. Today I visited the Hingham location for the first time normally I go to Brookline to shop. But we figured we will try this location. Upon arriving all was well. But half way through the store I felt like I had eyes on me. "you know that feel when some one is close to you" that's exactly what I felt. As we walked through the isles my son and niece who are both 5 found themselves acting as children do, along with another child In the aisle. When I realized my two children were rowdy I spoke to them. In the midst of me speaking to them a one of your employees(short, 50s, blondish hair) decided to say something to MY children. This is during I'm speaking to them. I nicely said to her Mam we understand, as you can hear I am speaking to them about the calming down and not playing in the store. Her words to me were"I know but I figured I should let you know" meaning she knew exactly what was going on. Also must I mention she said nothing to the other child throwing herself on the ground. As we continued to walk through another gentlemen started to pretend he was doing inventory. Normally there will me any quarrels about this but he literally followed us to another aisle and pretended to do the same thing. One knows inventory in one aisle doesn't go this quickly. As we walked the same woman who spoke to me the first time wound up behind us, and everywhere we turned. She even proceeded to the register as we were walking to it. It's as if she was along for the shopping trip literally. As we stood in line she blatantly started speaking to her co worker about us and looking at us. As I stood there in the manner to let her know I see what she is doing it was only then she turned her back as her she continued to talk about us and her co worker looked at us. You may have guessed by now I am a black woman. The funnier point of this story is that we were the only black people in the store at this point. I mean this from workers to patrons. For this store and their workers to single us out, ESPECIALLY at the time we are at in this world is beyond UNACCEPTABLE. Never have I gone to Brookline and felt this way, NEVER ! I really left that store in tears and humiliated by the manner in which they treated us. I am a law abiding tax paying black woman. Not only do they not know my background not my family but they have no right to treat us in that manner. Idk if Hingham has a separate rule on how they treat black people, it's ridiculous. If you've never been to a Trader Joe's, you must get up and go. Don't wait. Even if you just bought groceries, you'll find something here that you just can't live without. I love this grocery chain because: 1) They staff a panel of professional taste-testers whose job it is to ensure everything they sell is top-notch tastiness. 2) They have possibly the best frozen food section in any grocery store -- ever. I'm talking frozen foods you'd actually crave, not just settle for. 3) They're cheap. No joke, very cheap. I like this particular TJs because the staff is so friendly. I've never gone in there without someone actually starting up a conversation with me. It's not just your obligatory "how are you?" It's genuine conversation. They also have a great vitamin section. I just stocked up on enough Iron and Multis to last me three months ($2 and $6 respectively). The only department it's lacking is the fresh fruits and veggies. One of my favorite TJ's locations. It is a decent size and has very consistent inventory (unlike some of the TJ's I've been to). Staff is uber friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of frozen food as well as fresh meats and cheeses. Produce section is minuscule, but TJ's produce isnt very good anyways. Can't add too much to the previous review, except to reinforce TJ's qualities. This particular one is a tad small compared to other TJs in the area, but it does not lack in anything. It's cheap, with a large and constantly changing selection. Recently, they've increased the size of their meat section and the beef cuts I've tried were just great! Even better than Whole Foods ones! Some Words of caution: 1. If you actually like sushi, do not for any reason try their version. A single mark against an otherwise great place. 2. Don't wear Hawaiian shirts in the store (I had a Hawaiian phase a bit ago. I'm past it now, but you may not be!). That's the staff uniform, and I can't count the times I've been asked for assistance while shopping there. Of course, I helped anyway, but it was a tad distracting. One time we had a problem with a bread went bad too quickly and manager quickly offered to give us new loaf free of charge. TJ really stands out with the quality service and kind employees! Ahh the quaint little Trader Joe's in Needham Heights. Great place for the basics and served us well in Needham. We were a bit spoiled with supermarkets at the time I lived there. We had Roche Brothers, Sudbury Farms, Zathmary's (no longer operational) and Trader Joes. This Trader Joe's fills the void for a whole foods small market but not nearly as good as the Trader Joe's in Cambridge or Peabody. read more

One of the three grocery spots in Needham. I am not the hugest fan of Roche or Sudbury due to the high prices and in the case of both of the Needham locations, the lack of space. Trader Joe's is also small, but this one is honestly the perfect size for the amount of merchandise they sell. It's convenient, not super crowded, has an overall good selection. Ironically, prices aren't much more than other nearby stores and sometimes even less! Even though the parking lot in the back of the store is a drag sometimes; in general, I find this place very appealing and useful a lot of the time. Plus, all of the classic 'Trader Joe' items are sometimes things you cannot get elsewhere, just making the stop here more worthwhile. Jean (a cashier), and Steve (it looked like he was a manager), were both very friendly and very knowledgeable about their store and other nearby Trader Joe's stores. I've been to a few Trader Joe's around. This one is the best! The staff is fantastic and very helpful. They know their stuff. Shout out to Crewman Bobby for his great work! The food is excellent. This store is great about making sure supply meets demand. If you want something, they'll get it for you fast. They have a great selection of food, too! I highly recommend all of the India Fare Indian food medleys. They are great! Check out the frozen section: chicken tikka masala, naan, potstickers, etc. They are all fantastic, not too bad for you, and cheap! You can't go wrong here! Their samplers are great, too. That's actually how I discovered their potstickers. Oh! Put the potstickers with Trader Joe's soyaki sauce. Wonderful!!! :-). One of my favorite meals! Oh, how could I forget?? I make a trip to TJ's about once a month... I'm a big fan of the frozen food section (the eggplant cutlets are great) and I often buy cheese and fruit here as well. This location is pretty good as far as selection goes. The parking lot for the store can be a bit crazy and tight but I've never been unable to find a spot. Actually, scratch that, I did have to park on the street once but that was on a Sunday afternoon. We are addicted to TJ's because they have so much cheap junk food. Buckets of cookies. Big bars of chocolate. Jars of candy. Loafs of Atkins-be-damned muffinbreads. All of it so so cheap that you can afford to sample both the Belgium and Swiss chocolates. Love their tea selection (only decaf Earl Grey I can find) even if it isn't Mighty Leaf quality. We pack an empty duffel in our luggage just for this stuff. There are no Trader Joe's in CO. Major suckage. Good frozen food selection. No fresh meat/poultry/fish available. Kind of skimpy vegetable and fruit section. Always seems to be crowded. Gettiing into their parking lot can be a hassle. read more

I also live close to the Trader Joe's in Coolidge Corner....which I avoid at all costs since it is always packed. What I like here: 1. supremely friendly staff--they are happy to check in the back if an item isn't on the shelf 2. good quality produce 3. excellent variety in the things I like, at a great price point. I get my nuts, dried fruit, organic eggs and chocolate here and nowhere else. 4. nice selection of frozen foods for those nights when all you can do is stick something in the toaster oven for 20 minutes. 5. Summary: Good value, original products, annoying customers in Cambridge store, value wines at 3 stores that carry wine in MA, doesn't allow pets VALUE: cheaper than Shaws and Whole Foods, more expensive than Costco. GROCERIES: I like the Cambridge (Memorial Drive) store better for size and selection (and wine & beer) than the Boylston store in Boston. Medium size selection of organic and seemingly healthy foods. The fresh fruits and vegetable vary in price compared to Shaws...tomatos can be more expensive, but cucumbers less expensive, for example. Cheaper than Whole Foods however in almost every category. The frozen foods, such as the Alsacian Pizzas, are tasty. Breads are good and so are cheese selection (ALTHOUGH THEY STOPPED CARRYING RACKLETT CHEESE!!). CUSTOMERS: The Cambridge customers seem to be mostly uptight tree-hugging smug hybrid car driving know-it-alls who block you out when you are trying to pick items from the shelf or when directing your grocery cart. The Boylston store crowd is better: young professionals trying to get in and out quickly who cooperate in navigating the store. PETS: you can tie your dog to the front of the escalator area on Boylston, but it seems risky -- someone could steal your pooch. The old man (skinny cranky cashier dude) rudely yelled at my girlfriend for bringing in our 7 pound pooch in a carry bag, although I can understand that since it is a grocery store. He also yells at the skateboarder kids, which is good. WINE: Great wine values, BUT: Trader Joe's only sells wine & beer at 3 locations in MA (thanks an anti-competitive MA law and the morons who voted down MA Proposition 1 to not allow all supermarkets to sell wine & beer). The bar and restaurant liquor distributors (such as United Liquors and Horizon Beverage) out-spent advocates of the proposition by over $15 million in advertising to kill the proposition. Even Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) had a TV commercial indicating that the proposition had nothing to do with drunk drivers -- those idiots drink anyhow. Also, quotes like "There are plenty of places to buy alcohol already, you don't really need more," (see http://www.npnweb.com/daily/news.asp?a=565320) don't account for the free-markets and consumers to decide on this. I think consumers should be able to decide whether and where they will buy wine & beer. How does Europe ever cope with this?!? :) read more

The produce here is terrible. I have just thrown out a bag of moldy potatoes that were not even a week old. This is typical of what you get here. I've had experiences where I've bought 4 avocados and every one was black inside. I've had beautiful appearing strawberries go moldy in a day. Other stuff is fine, and by fine I mean typical Trader Joe's fare, and reasonably priced compared to the other extortionate shops in the area. But because they consistently disappoint when it comes to produce I do no shop here as my main supermarket. I really wish this would improve. read more

I am giving Trader Joes 5 stars cuz the customer service in this particular store is second to none!!!!!!! While I was in the store (just back from vacation) my daughter spiked this horrible fever right as I was finishing up. No groceries in the house I had to quickly finish and get out of there. 4 employees colaborated, helped me finish up, opened a register just for us and even went to cvs and bought tylenol for me to get the spiking fever down. Then they wouldn't accept payment for the Tylenol. Thank you so much to all those who helped me that day. Really you know who you are because i didn't get the chance to get your names. Trader Joe's is fairly consistent in pricing throughout the country. I don't think I pay more for most stuff here in the GBA than in a Trader Joe's in Michigan. It's a nice alternative to Whole Foods. This Trader Joe's is kind of small but there is still a good selection of frozen foods in both ready made meals and fresh fruits. Try the gulbi, total killer! The bread department is a bit lacking in fresh choices. Okay selection of cheeses. They have mozzarella in herbs, and prepackaged thinly sliced prosciutto for less than $4, both yummy in sandwiches. Not a lot of fresh veggies but what they have are less expensive than most stores. They have a parking which is a plus. It's a really good place to swing by to pick up stuff for preparation of a quick meal or just odds and ends for making lunch at work. read more
