This place would rank higher, and honestly, I don't think the negative is within their control, but it affected the shopping experience, nonetheless. Firstly, let's talk about the positives. For a big name grocery store, they have a very wide variety of many different things. For example, they have a huge selection of cheeses. They also have one of the biggest ice cream aisles I've seen. Prices are fair, but frozen apps/snacks are cheaper at Walmart. Soda is about the same price, and these guys have a wider selection. The meat and seafood section is really good too. Oh, and they have live lobsters. That seems rare for grocery stores these days, but it's much appreciated. Okay, good selection, good prices, I should've loved this place. But, I didn't. And that's because of the negative...the patronage. It's sort of an unfair quality to grade, because it's pretty much out of their control, but it severely negatively affects the shopping experience here. Multiple times, people just block the aisle, and they don't bother moving their cart out of the way when they see you. One person even parked his cart perpendicularly to the aisle. Excuse me, are we for real?? What the heck is that all about? Oh, you know how you're about to pop out of the aisle, and someone else was just about to cross as well? And you both stop and you both apologize and you both tell each other "Oh, no problem"? Oh, that doesn't happen here. Out of the 6 times I had that event, and I apologized... 1 time, they also apologized. 2 times, I got ignored. 1 time, I got an eye-roll. And 2 times, I got a death stare that was only stopped when I gave back a death stare. I mean, for real?? We're playing elementary school rules now, are we? I've only come across this type of behavior at this store. Even 4 miles down the road at Walmart, people are better-behaved. If you're on statins, I highly suggest not shopping here, because the environment will not be conducive to your condition. read more

Stop & Shop is one of the larger supermarket chains in the Northeast with many stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island in particular, have a very strong Stop & Shop base. This store is in a busy area of Westerly, but it does have competition with an Aldi almost across the street and a SuperWalmart, less than a few miles away. I went to get some croutons for a quick lunch we were having and they had a nice large selection of them. Checkout was not too bad. read more

This store is clean, bright, and well stocked. The fruit and meat are always the freshest here. All of the employees are super friendly. They remember you and make you feel like family. Keisha in the deli/bakery is so nice and friendly. Deborah the cashier treated me like an old friend. There are so many more friendly folks working here. Pricing is a bit higher here than Walmart or Aldi's. But S&S has tons of herbs, healthy potted plants and fresh flowers, a nice organic section, and a great seafood selection. I like coming here if I don't have time to be shopping at multiple stores. I know what I need will be in stock. read more

I was driving home and passing through Westerly and needed to run into the store for a few grocery items. I checked my phone first and upon googling Stop & Shop in Westerly, it said that their hours were until 11 PM. It was 9:52 PM when I entered the store and I grabbed a small shopping basket and went through the aisles quickly as I wanted to get home. I could not find tortillas anywhere in the store and an announcement came on stating that the time was 10 PM and that Stop & Shop was closed. I immediately made my way to the registers and saw an employee and asked if he could quickly show me where the tortillas were. He said that the store was closed and I needed to make my way to the registers immediately. I stated that if he could just quickly show me where the tortillas were, but he said no, he needed to go home and I needed to check out right then, and that I was the only person left in the store which was incredibly embarrassing as I would never want to make anyone stay later than scheduled, but I told him that the hours on Google said the store was open until 11 PM. He stated that "he would let them know." As someone who is in customer service, I thought it was incredibly rude that he couldn't just show me where the tortillas were and then have me check out, it would've literally taken an additional 30 seconds. Their information online was incorrect in stating that the store was open until 11 PM, if I had known that it was only open until 10 PM. I never would've gone in that late. I'm truly disappointed with the severe lack of good customer service, especially as I was polite and kind, and immediately walked to the registers when I heard the announcement that the store was closed. Just a hint, the best way to have handled that was to have sent me to the registers to start checking out my items and for him to grab a package of tortillas for me. Just saying... Since I had Covid last December , I have been doing the online ordering with pick up at the store - it has been amazing ! A couple times my order was missing items or I was given wrong items but it was always corrected. The ladies who shop for and deliver to my car are always friendly, prompt, make sure I know if there We're substituted items and even say hi to my dog lol Overall I am happy with the experience !! read more

I gave this place a 2 star based on my experience. Throughout the store was dirty on the ground and unorganized products on the shelves. Not only that but in partially this one isle they had random products ranging from toys, baby supplies, cleaning supplies, and others. We were not greeted and the employees were a little bit tired and annoyed. Overall this place is only good for a quick trip rather than a shop weekly or yearly for products. read more

I have been ordering my groceries (weekly) via the online pickup portals for over a year from a variety of grocery stores, including Wal-Mart, Whole Foods, and Stop and Shop. Of the 3, Stop and Shop's service is by far the worst and most unreliable. Many times, the produce which is chosen by the shopper is moldy or the substitutions are inappropriate. The last two times that orders were placed, time slots are chosen and not fulfilled on time due to the company not hiring an adequate number of staff. In retail, the idea is to under promise and over deliver. Unfortunately, Stop and Shop is following a model of over promising and under delivering. read more

Even though some employees check in with the Yelp! Mobile App 2-3 times during their shift, this Stop & Shop is probably the best grocery store in the Westerly area. The store isn't that old & still seems new. It's always neat & clean. While it is a pretty good size it's not such a monstrosity that you can't find what you're looking for. They have a great produce area & surprisingly good amount of organic produce & fruit. If you're looking for an item, chances are you can find it here. While I don't have a use for either, they have a Redbox pick up/drop off & a Citizens Bank branch in this location. If you're looking to purchase a bouquet of flowers, then pick them up at their pretty decent florist section. Need a greeting card? They have you covered. The main reason Stop & Shop will always have me as a customer is their selection of Boar's Head sandwich meats & cheeses. While Shaw's is a bit cheaper, they don't offer Boar's Head & it's more expensive with less selection at Sandy's & McQuade's. The deli staff is always pleasant & helpful too. It doesn't hurt that S&S offers a handy kiosk to help expedite the process. Simply make your selections on the screen & your number is called over the loud speaker to let you know your order is ready while you finish up your shopping. I don't want to go overboard with this review: this is just a Stop & Shop. The prices are ok & they have the best selection of food & other items you might need. Terrible experience shopping here. Workers seem to be just standing around. Only one cashier even though there were lines. My husband and I had to use the self-checkout, which kept alert flashing for no reason. Girl gave us an attitude when we said we didn't know what happened, saying (in snotty tone), "I don't know either because you already bagged everything", and then she walked away in a huff. An older man was in another line begging a worker to help him bag. I will never go to this Stop and Shop again! I just went to this Stop & Shop for some deli meat. I was the first customer of the day. The deli guy who sliced my meat used a slicer rhat was covered with old meat and meat juices. It was disgusting. I ate some if the meat because I was hungry and on the road. I hope I don't get sick. read more

Over the last few years, I've found myself shopping at stop & shop less and less. I've even gone to the point that I will pay a little more for better quality and the confidence that the store will still have my favorite brands (like Kraft real Mayo). Lately, I've decided to give Stop & Shop another shot and have recently begun shopping there again. This store doesn't carry ground veal too often. So, I went in and purchased a package of veal cubes and asked the butcher to grind it for me. I was told that they will not grind anything but beef. Um....last I checked, veal IS beef. Needless to say, I was less than impressed considering my favorite Stop & Shop location in Lincoln always ground my veal for me. read more

This store needs help in basic customer service. Items are always running out. I have never seen a store with so many out of stock signs. Mornings are extremely frustrating. You have to shop around store employees who are stocking shelves. The store specials are always running out. Of most importance check your receipt. Items marked down many times do not show the correct mark down. I have started shopping elsewhere. read more

Tired of this store. Oddly enough because of the kiosk mentioned by another reviewer. I have ordered deli meat/cheese from the "handy" kiosk only to be told the store doesn't carry it. Then WTH is it offered at the kiosk?? Waste of time! Manager promised to fix. Two weeks later, same thing! Fool me once... The rest of the selection is not entirely stellar either and their prices are too high. I abandoned today's order and will go to Shaw's instead. read more

By the time I left the store I came across 5 people without masks. I asked " customer service " if they could make an announcement and 4 of them barked back at me that they are not allowed to because it might be for health reasons. I said it doesn't hurt to make a general announcement. Again the woman at the desk jumped down my throat. They make announcements about the current amount of customers in the store. Today it was 52, but if 10% of them are not wearing masks they might as well have 500 in the store! They are rude, they put people at risk and really don't care. I went shopping this morning. One would think that at a time like this (the dreaded Corona Virus) the employees would be friendly. My cashier get asking if she could go on break as I was unloading my items. She gave me a dirty look. She never said hello. A manger told me she would finish unloading my items so I could bag them, because the were not allowed to touch my bags. She also seemed annoyed. As for many in New England, Stop and Shop is my "go-to" supermarket and the one in Westerly is the most convenient for me. Unfortunately, this store falls short of acceptability and I have changed my shopping habits accordingly. While the product selection is quite good, the poor customer service negates that advantage. Far too often, one can't access items on shelves because the employees stocking the shelves are aimlessly chatting amongst themselves, discussing topics such as where they're going for pizza after work, recent dates, etc. This occurs as well in the parking lot where often the guys tasked with retrieving carriages are just hanging out, joking (often with inappropriate language) and just socializing. Add to this the antiquated, often broken scales in the produce section, and it becomes clear that concern for the customer is absent from this store's priorities. The scales are there to allow customers to weigh, print out and scan the prices, adding the item to their list which is then scanned automatically at checkout. Conceptually, the system is great. Unfortunately, the machines are not maintained and often there is only one in the store that even works. One would think that if customers are to be asked to do their own checkout, they could at least have tools that operated. I read more

Very poor customer service. My mom went in to pick up an order that was placed online, there was some mess up with the delivery date and the lady speaking with my mom was trying to explain that to her. However, my mom has limited English abilities and was having a hard time understanding her, so she called me on the phone and asked the lady to speak with me and explain the situation. The lady REFUSED to speak with me and was very rude to my mom. I could hear her through the phone, but she would not speak with me on the phone.
