I looked online and came across Southbury self storage. Their website was so simple and direct that I didn't believe it. There was a sale on unit rentals when I was inquiring and it was a much more reasonable pricing than I'd seen elsewhere. I called and spoke to Paul and then Rob. Anytime you call you get an answering service where they call you back after you leave a message or someone picks up right away. I've experienced both and they are prompt about communicating. Paul and Rob are also very nice. You can literally set up an account, rent a unit, and access your stuff without dealing with anyone. The parking lot is well lit as is the facility itself. They provide dollies, carts, and such to move your items. They also have a broom and pail for cleaning up any mess you've creates while moving. If you are looking for a private, safe, clean facility that is monitored without being intrusive, this is your sign to go for it. My items were retrieved at the end of the rental and wete perfectly intact and in the same condition they were left. I've no complaints and can't refer them enough.

To make matters worse, the general manager wasn't present, and there were no additional clerks scheduled--which is surprising for a Saturday, typically one of the busiest moving days of the week. Reservations are supposed to make the process quicker, but in this case it didn't seem to matter at all. Better staffing and management presence would go a long way toward improving the customer experience.

Who's heard of an energy surcharge? And why do I have to pay it? Who knows. Insurance - they charge an extra $12 insurance for "my protection" and will only take it off when I send my renters / house insurance. Why does it matter? If I don't have insurance I lost my stuff. If I have insurance and something happens, my insurance company will still handle the insurance, whether or not I showed you a copy of my insurance. My insurance on my personal items should not matter. It's just another way for them to charge extra fees and make it difficult for you to remove fees. If there's a way for them to rip you off, they will.
