I had a carryout order that went very smoothly. The order was ready and accurate upon arrival. I ordered a pork chop meal with Mac & cheese and green beans as my sides. The meal also came with cornbread that unfortunately I did not eat because it was burnt. Other than the burnt cornbread, everything else met my expectations. I forgot how good this restaurant was. I went to the restaurant for a Sunday dinner. I ordered chicken, cabbage and mashed potatoes. I was very impressed that I didn't have to wait long and the chicken seemed as if it was right out of the oil. I've always loved the cabbage here with cornbread. Josannes is one of my favorite soul food spots in Lexington. My favorite is the fried shrimp. They offer a number of different meal options and sides. Most of the meals come with 2 sides. They have a cake and sauce or strawberry dessert option. During covid I believe the dine in seating is closed so I have just been going through the drive thru. We did takeout on a Sunday & the place was packed. We got the catfish & chicken. Both were delicious. The collard greens were the best I've ever had! (I don't typically like collard greens). The cole slaw was also delicious. (It's very wet. I just used a fork to drain off the extra mayo.) And the corn bread pancakes were a fun alternative to regular corn bread. I'm so glad this little restaurant is in our area. I've eaten here twice now. We first got the cheeseburger and fries meal for 5.00. So much better than fast food! Today I tried the catfish meal which comes with two sides. I chose the Mac n cheese and greens. Both were great. Catfish was cooked perfect and it came with a cornbread which was a sweet cornbread but not too sweet. I really hope it sticks around. It's nice to have something close by and different! I don't understand what everyone else is eating? I went through the drive-thru and ordered a catfish dinner and seasoned wings. I got home and the fish was very clearly NOT catfish, in color or flavor. My first bite was both mushy and gooey? I spit it directly into the trash with the rest of the container to follow. Even if they mixed up the whiting filets with catfish, that was not edible in any capacity. The wings were VERY heavily breaded to make the wings look way larger than they appeared and the only "seasoning detected was maybe pepper? This is an embarrassment to "southern cooking" and a total waste of money. I can't check this place off fast enough. read more

It's a small southern style diner.... With a drive thru which earned it a star. You order at the window, then wait in a spot for it to be delivered to your car. The food is AMAZING. This diner is truly a southern style favorite. Located in the Buckhorn Area in Lexington off Man O'War Blvd. Customers have the option to dine in, carry out and use their drive thru service. You can also, call in your order and pick it up. This menu has a wide variety of entrees, from chicken, to fish, to pork chops and more! Josanne's also has plenty of side dishes and deserts to choose from! I visited this restaurant 3 times so far and I'm amazed every time. Growing up on southern foods, it's hard to find a place that really knows how to prepare fried chicken. The chicken here taste great as well, and I admire the crispyness and flavorful chicken meat. OK. I was super psyched that a southern food place was coming to my neighborhood. Unfortunately, the food was terrible and the service was horrible. First of all, we ordered the chicken dinner. The food came out at different times and all of the sides were cold. The chicken itself tasted like some frozen chicken that you get from Kroger and just heat up. There was really no flavor to the chicken. I was really hoping that this restaurant would be amazing because I live so close to it. I was super sad and disappointed with what we got and I will probably never be back! UPDATE: I actually decided to go back a few months later and give them another shot. I am so glad I did. My son and daughter-in-law live in the Buckhorn neighborhood and they were talking about how good Josannes chicken is. I love small places so I thought I would give it a try. Who doesnt like Southern cooking? So after a long hot, humid day at work I stopped in . I was sooo looking forward to a good fried chicken meal. The nice lady at the counter was very friendly. It smells great in there, and now I'm starving. So I ordered the 3 piece chicken meal. I inquired what 3 pieces are included. She told me that it comes with a breast, a wing and a leg. I'm not a leg fan so I asked to sub a wing for the leg. She kindly told me I could have any 3 pieces I want but they are out of breasts! I was crushed. Its 430 on Friday night...and theres no breasts? I almost left but I really wanted to try the greens, so I got the catfish meal with cabbage and greens. While waiting I asked about purchasing a soda so I asked for a Pepsi. Nope, they are out. Ugh.... Disappointed, I got my dinner and headed home. I got home to discover the catfish doesnt come with tarter sauce! UGH.....maybe they were out. SOOOO...Josannes gets a 3 from me this time. Decided to try them out tonight and I'm so glad we did. The food was excellent and the portions were great. I ordered online and had wanted to try the catfish but they were nice enough to call as soon as I had placed my order to call and tell me they were out. Decided to go with the fried chicken and very happy I did. I think their fried chicken is my second favorite in town. My husband was happy with his pork chops too.
