Over a month later on Jan 13th they finally told me they never sent in my insurance claim and they don't even have it so I had to resend it. They told me the claim finally got approved and the check will be here in 10-14 days. It's been 26 days and I still have nothing. My unit got broken into sometime in October and I still have not gotten my insurance payout because these people have no clue what they are doing, they pretended like they help but do nothing, and they honestly screw over the customers. I've talked to a lot of other renters and everyone I have talked to has been treated poorly by these people. Almost every conversation includes I'm looking for a new place. The gates and doors are broken all the time so I find homeless and other people who shouldn't be there. The amount of times I've seen someone trying to steal a bike out front or something is crazy. They've also messed up my card payments 3-5 times. I have auto pay and have always had money on my cards, yet somehow every few months I get an email saying thanks for finally paying and there was a late fee added. They even sent me emails that they cut off my own lock and put their lock on because "I missed a payment." Honestly it's taking everything in me not to go in and curse these awful individuals out. They still have not fixed their shit and they decide to throw more shit on me all of the time. I am so fucking over it. Once they finally give me my couple thousand, I'm probably going to find a new place too. Awful awful awful. Honestly they have seriously damaged my financial well being because of all this. They told me my claim was in in December so I bought my stuff back, it was over $6K stolen because they said they check would be there in a few weeks. Now it's been 3 months and still no check and my bank is still way lower than it should be because I used all my savings. I hate GreenBox. Not to mention, they also refused to let me use the truck when I moved in and they said that's free.

You can go in at any time with your code. After a while, they started locking down the garbage outside. I was going through my mom's things after she passed away, and I had to take everything I wanted to throw away home with me. It was frustrating that they didn't have a way to take care of that there. I started to get a little sketched out when I went on the weekends. It was pretty empty, but I would run into people who gave the impression of hanging out (sitting in the hall, charging their phones.... No idea if they actually were living there, but it just gave me a weird vibe). I tried to go into the office to take care of a problem that I had and no one was in there during regular business hours. That was frustrating when I drove all the way there to meet with someone. I could've dealt with all that, but my last straw was after I had been paying on time for years, there was some situation with my credit card, and they charged me a late fee. I took care of it as soon as I got the email about it, but they wouldn't reverse the fee and because it was the weekend, they also disabled my code, so I couldn't get in. So annoying that they would throw away a good customer relationship just to get a late fee. I then packed up my stuff and moved somewhere else.

Megan pretended she was not the manager as she was watching watch I was pulling out of the unit which was thousands of dollars worth of tools. I told her I was going to need some more time, just a few hours, to clear everything out of unit. She said I would have to talk to the manager in the morning. When I arrived the next morning, the guy working there was not manager and told me Megan was the manager and she ordered me to be locked out and also said she had called someone to pick everything up. I was suppose to have 72 hours to clear everything out. I signed the papers with them 68 hours ago.

So I went to A Storage Place near El Rancho. The then manager, Richard, helped me immediately, and I was able to move all of these precious things instantly. I have paid by check for two years and never had a problem. Suddenly this spring, I received an email saying that I was delinquent on my payments. It turned out that their bank's check reader had misread my check and had put an extra digit at the end of my account number. They assumed that I had written a bad check. As a successful educator of more than three decades, I have never in my life written a bad check. I contacted my bank and worked through them to try to resolve the issue with A Storage Place. The new manager, Brian, hung up on me three times. He shouted at me over the phone and was exceedingly rude. Then my banker, Lily, try to reason with him, and he hung up on her three times. Finally, our bank manager Helen was able to get him to calm down and talk to her reasonably. She ended by saying very firmly, "Our client did not write a bad check. You can simply re-deposit the check with the correct account number." Apparently he did not get the message. I had to send them another check. The way that I was treated then and the way that I was treated when I decided to move out has shown me that the people who run A Storage Place have no idea of how to behave professionally. If I had treated the people I worked for as a professional educator the way I have been treated by the staff at A Storage Place, I would've been fired on the spot. If you wish to be treated with respect, do not rent a storage unit from this business! There are so many other options!

Less than 2 months after I began renting I was informed that the price would be raised to $138/month, an increase of 40%. I asked them what could've possibly changed in 6.5 weeks to justify an increase of 40% and they couldn't said that every now a d then they perform a "unit audit" and determined that this is just the price now. Makes me think that $99/month was just a teaser rate to win my business before they jack the price to what they actually want to charge, because how on earth could a $99 rate be fair 2 months ago, but suddenly be so out-of-line that they need a 40% increase. I asked for it to be lowered cause it was in bad taste to refuse to honor their quote in such a short time period. They refused. I left a review here to inform others and suddenly they realized that maybe they shouldn't jack their prices by that much so quickly and returned my rate to $99/month. They asked me to "help them out with some reviews left online." Since they returned my rate I agreed and deleted the review. It's now 5 weeks later and they have once again jacked my rate, this time by a smaller amount, only to $109 (10% increase). A 10% increase is still pretty unreasonable seeing as it's only been just over 3 months since I first became a customer. Given the context they gave me with the "unit audit" to justify their rate increase, the fact that this increase is significantly lower tells me that this time around it wasn't some BS methodology, but a conscious decision to push the price the price closer to what they really want but in a manner someone will grudgingly allow. In other words, their methodology for determining the rate increase isn't actually from a unit audit, but rather is just "whatever this customer will let slide." Poor business practices. Honor your quoted prices. If you want to charge more, quote more. And if you need to increase the rate, think about how reasonable the increase is given the amount of time that has passed.
