Effie's is SO good. It is sincerely one of the best breakfast spots you can find in West Hartford! My partner and I went this weekend and our server was so sweet. Service is always a hit here. We ordered one of their combos and it came with so much food. Their pancakes are THICK. It was a perfect way to start the day. Don't forget to order their hot chocolate too!

Delicious breakfast! It was my first time here and I ordered the big breakfast and subbed regular bacon and sausage for turkey. I also ordered the pancakes. They were plain however the consistency was very fluffy squishy, and I almost thought they were mochi pancakes! I really enjoyed everything! The breakfast potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. I would definitely recommend having breakfast here!

This was a very nice experience. Made a reservation for 2:15 and was promptly seated! Lots of open spaces honestly could've walked right in. We went on Mother's Day and it was a super nice day so got t sit outside away from the noise inside which was nice. Our order was taken quickly and I got the Effie's kielbasa omelette and it was very tasty. For $16 it was a steal and super tasty with the caramelized onions. The idea pie was also so good. It was rich and you could really taste everything was made to order. Would go again love their breakfast/brunch options!

I am visiting my brother this week for Christmas and one of my favorite things to do is check out local mom & Pop restaurants or diners. Effie's fits into that mold and we weren't disappointed. Atmosphere: this is a quaint brick building with it's own parking lot. The restaurant itself is not very big but is cozy, not cramped. They have several booths as well as stand alone tables. When you walk in you are greeted by a hostess who seats you and gives you the menus. I checked out the ladies bathroom and it was cute and very clean. The whole restaurant was very clean. No sticky floors with crumbs and food all over. This is just a cute, cozy, laidback place. Service: our server was very nice and dressed festive, in an elf sweater dress. She brought water and then gave us plenty of time to look at the 3 menus she put down. Breakfast menu, lunch and dinner menu and the specials menu. She was very friendly and kept checking on us as we decided what to order. Food: I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak omelet which can with hash browns and toast, my brother ordered the Cobb salad, and my mom ordered a special...loaded baked potato with a cup of soup. The omelet was not too large but a little bland - you will need to add salt and pepper to everything if you order breakfast. My brother's chicken breast on top of his salad was a great size and he enjoyed it with Ranch dressing. My mom's loaded baked potatoes was huge with cheese and scallions and topped with meaty chili, for her cup of soup she got the split pea. Everyone was happy with the portions and the speedy service. Our food came out quickly. Over all we liked Effie's.

Came here with a friend as it was a less than 3 min walk from her place. Hostess was friendly and directed us to our table. We were briefly greeted by our waitress who was already starting to turn away before finishing her sentence. Throughout our experience we were checked in on but again, with emphasis on brevity. She was never rude but did not seem to be that interested in being there. I ordered the tator tot bowl which was served with some pretty over easy eggs as requested. The tots were fresh from the fryer and retained their crisp outside. It was a decent dish but not that filling. My friend ordered a cheese omelette with mushroom and spinach. It looked to be a three egg omelette so it was a good size served with some mashed home fries on the side. My friend had only half of her meal and our waitress cleared our table before asking if we'd like a to-go container. Food was decent, location was convenient but service was poor. Not sure if I'd come again.

    Irish Benedict. Really nicely done.

The place looked spacious and with a lot of light, it looked clean and they seemed to have a nice selection of wines (for those that like it) , they were displayed for people to see, which I thought looked very nice. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and I found it odd that there was only 1 restroom for the size of the restaurant. Our waiter was nice, he took our order and we were excited. The food took a VERY long time, we were starving, and we had kids with us so that wasn't good. Some of our orders were wrong and so unfortunately we had to wait even longer for the right meal. We didn't order alcohol but we did older a couple of mocktails. I was SUPER excited for them because that's something I always appreciate at a restaurant. I'm sad to say that they were AWFUL!! straight up syrup, not bubbly (some were supposed to have soda in them) not sweet, simply not enjoyable at all, I ended up switching it for a simple club soda, I figured it was a safe bet. When my food came out, it was ok, I had the avocado toast, and it was forgettable, my sister had the chicken and waffles and now THAT was the meal to get, it was large in portion and that chicken was beyond tasty!! My other sister has the lomito sandwich with the chips and it was good, something missing but she enjoyed it. The rest of the food were burgers and they were ok, the kids had burgers and Mac and cheese and they were not tasty according to the children's disinterest in barely touching their food (and they love cheeseburgers). I'm always willing to bypass certain things as long as customer service delivers BUT unfortunately they fell short. We were celebrating an engagement and so we were all very happy and in a great mood, when suddenly workers around us were cleaning up the neighboring tables, and even sweeping very close to us. We thought the place was possibly closing? (Even though it was only 2:15pm). I asked if they were closing and they said that they close the restaurant from 3-4 so their employees can go eat .... I'm not against giving them a break BUT, it really felt like they were kicking us out, we felt pressured to eat fast and wrap it up, not a good feeling, when you are in the zone of happiness. It was our first time there so, I would have appreciated if they would have informed us that the restaurant takes a little break in between and then we would have decided if we wanted to stay or go elsewhere. They did bring a little dessert and 2 mocktails for the newly engaged which was nice, I'll give them that. Overall, I don't think the food and experience was worth me coming back or recommending this place, I'm sure there's other much better places.

You can do takeout or dine-in, but even when dining in, you look at a menu, pay at the counter, and then it eventually comes to your table. I was lucky enough to come in when there was only one table and some takeout customers. As I left, several more people came in, so this place can become crowded. Aurora's is Guatemalan. They have a lot of brekkie stuff--huevos rancheros, omelettes with veggies, sausage, peppers, ham, sausage, etc. Breakfast sandwiches (BEC, beans, queso, ham, turkey, avocado, cheeses). Burritos (chorizo, loaded, veggies). Appetizers, like tacos, nachos, tostadas, and more. Sandwiches (burgers, steak sandwiches). Bowls and salads (house green, classic caesar, burrito bowl). Quesadillas and wraps (turkey avocado, buffalo chicken, churrascov, burrito, chicken bacon ranch). I had the Churrasco. It had a lot of fat, but it was more steak than fat, and the fat came off easily. The meat was tender and fall apart. I ordered the fries, but got rice, and that was okay. The black beans were great. The salad was a little palate cleanser. The thing I LOVED, ADORED, would help me ignore the fact the restaurant was so cold that I had to keep my coat on and shivered throughout my stay--the drinks. They have these great fruit drinks--grilled pineapple lemonade (my choice), homemade horchata, fresh melon juice, watermelon juice, etc. My choice, the grilled pineapple lemonade--I literally sucked that stuff down. It was fresh, refreshing, not too sweet, but just sweet enough. Let's go back to my elder millennial roots--"It's all that and a bag of chips." My order was neatly packed, and everything arrived intact, which shows care and attention to detail on their end. That kind of service goes a long way, even through delivery! I chose The Laurel based on the great reviews, not knowing much more about this place. Upon arriving, the parking lot was packed. I also had a difficult time getting in when walking from the parking lot, which is behind the restaurant. The issue here (which is my only negative about the entire dining experience) is if I were with a person with disabilities (as I am at times) who doesn't walk fast and we walked to what we "thought" was the entrance, only to find a sign saying to use the front door, but no arrow as to where that is (and keep in mind, I don't know the area, this place, never been here before) and if it were raining - This would have been a horrible way to start the dinner. PLEASE post a sign on the door with an arrow showing which way to go. Also, the door says it's for disable folks, but it's locked. OK - My griping aside... Coming in, I was quickly greeted and seated. The staff here was GREAT! Very engaging and VERY helpful! The menu here is AMAZING! Good thing it's a joint that specializes in small plates and that I was part of a group of three, it gave us the ability to try a bunch of items; seven, in fact and that's not including dessert! The flavors from their vegetarian and vegan dishes were so darn good, you don't miss the meat! Everything was plated beautifully and perfectly! We also placed our entire order (not desserts) all at once and they brought them out as they were made, which worked perfectly with our timing too. They not only have a full bar here, they have a "craft cocktail" quality bar! Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was their yellow chartreuse! Of course, next to this was green. So, when I sat down I asked about it, and my server told me how they were able to get this and so I ordered a Last Word, which came out SPOT-ON PERFECT! When it came to the food, some favs of ours - Their Watermelon Crudo - This looked and had the texture of tuna - AMAZING!! The Vegan Empanadas had amazing flavor and texture! I also liked their Stuffed Peppers - The "Samosa Potatoes" in them really hit nicely as well as the sauce on top. Save room for dessert, they have some great options here! We couldn't decide, so the 3 of us ordered 4! We tried their crème Brûlée, their Unbirthday cake, Tres Leches Tiramisu, and their Brûléed Cornbread. The Unbirthday cake was nice - reminded me of what it looks like, Funfetti! But their Brûléed Cornbread was AWESOME! Loved the crispy edges of the cornbread and the entirety of flavors. It wasn't until mid-meal that we really had a talk with our server about the amazingness of the food, the artfulness of it, as well as the attention to detail and creativity of the menu and that's when we learned that the chef here recently won an award for best chef in Connecticut! Well, now it's obvious - Why the parking lot was packed and why everything was so very good! Highly recommend stopping in - but make reservations!

But it wasn't their fault, I didn't realize that there were olives (in some form or another) pretty much in every single dish I ordered and I don't love olives. As in, whatever I saw, say fish or duck with something I wanted, so I just ordered it without reading the fine details of what were in the dish. So that was my fault, I am sure they would have either suggested things without olives, or told me what things the olives could've been removed from. I knew the service was good and the food was beautifully plated, I just didn't love the things we ordered that time. I saw a post on Instagram that they had a French toast with Ube sauce and I knew I needed to go! I fell in love with Ube in Seattle a couple of years ago and now anytime I see it near me, I have to go get it. I saw the post on a Saturday morning and jumped online and made a brunch reservation for 11:45 the same day! Everything we had was fantastic, rather than wanting a basic sausage or bacon to go with the French toast sticks. I ordered the Bella Bella wings as my protein to go with my Ube French toast, and they were fantastic. I also had to start with the watermelon Crudo, which was interesting, the flavors were excellent, but the texture of the watermelon did not resemble watermelon so it could throw you off if you're not at least a mildly adventurous eater. My husband had the prawn and grits and said it was fabulous and that he would order it again. I did not try it because the portion is not that big and the French toast was filling me up so I let him enjoy his own meal, and did share a couple wings with him and he agreed they were really good. The service was great again, and as simple as it sounds, I loved how when we were seated the hostess asked what kind of water we wanted, we did not have to wait for any period of time for a server to come over and ask us. The attention is in the details and that is always important. The cocktails were great, though a little pricey, which is on par for things in CT. We enjoyed them both at brunch and on our first dinner visit. We will be back, and I actually already prepaid for a dinner experience coming up with Filipino food and I'm excited for it! I have friends that went to the first one and said it was epic! So, while we usually go to brunch only if there are bottomless mimosas, this is one exception that will stay in our rotation! The restaurant is cute, intimate and clean.

He suggested some great items. We started with their steak frites and I cannot rave more about it! First this plate is definitely shareable. Among myself, my husband and young toddler we destroyed this. My daughter was eating so much of this steak and so were we! It was sooo tender and we loved the gravy on top. The fries were amazing and when they were drenched in that gravy it was chefs kiss! What really brought it all the together was the salad paired with it- it was light and refreshing and the dressing was so good! For dessert our server suggested the chocolate custard so we got that and a berry handpie. We ate both and kept saying "oh my god" with each bite. My daughter especially loved the chocolate custard but my husband and I loved both equally! We immediately said after our meal how we have to come back. We cannot wait to try other menu items and their cocktails next time. We are huge fans and will definitely be back!!

We visited Arethusa Farms years ago, and we felt like pioneers discovering gold. I digress. I loved our experience at Le Mazet. The food is scrumptious and although the environ is cozy and has an inviting feel of a warm country cottage, the refined service is on par with the legendary Four Seasons Restaurant in NYC (not to be mistaken for the hotel flag). Chef's kiss to Jared and his inimitable staff!

There are a lot of food options, we came for a friend's birthday party and they had created a custom menu. My only qualm with the place is access- difficult to find the parking and to navigate to get in here, it's a business/apartment building so takes a few extra steps to access the restaurant.

We got hamachi crudo and I don't know if the supplier of fruit is in cahoots with la Croix but I've never had a slice of citrus taste so bland. The dish was in desperate need of some acidity. Foie was great, I think the only plate aside from the halibut that didn't need any tweaking. We also got the pour over and over as our first drink -- I am fascinated how a cocktail can be both an espresso martini and not at the same time. I wanted to love it, then I saw it and wanted to hate it - then was left feeling perplexed and intrigued by the experience. I think that's a good way to describe the evening, perplexing and intriguing and I'm not sure how to feel but I do not think I will be back for anything other than cocktails because it is frankly a waste of time and money. The place itself is pretty and very Instagramable. The service was fine. You have to put in your entire order at once because that's what the chef prefers which feels a tad pretentious to me -- kind of the vibe of the whole place. Two key words as a takeaway: overpriced and underwhelming.
