So, going into Jackson's restaurant, a mom and pop restaurant specializing in home cooked style food, I had my doubts. Walking up to what resembled a school cafeteria lunch line only furthered my doubts. And, seeing the sheer number of different options sitting out behind the glass window only furthered my suspicions. Look, I was wrong. The food here is really good. The service is super friendly and helpful. I was so overwhelmed by all the choices I just told the lady behind the glass counter to pick me something. She obliged with a kindness that made me think she knew me somehow. She chose the chicken and dumplings, beef stew, apples, and two different types of corn bread. Now, I thought initially, and she even admitted, that the chicken and dumplings/beef stew mix was a little unorthodox, but that they were both so good I had to try them. Both were fantastic. The apples were awesome. I liked both types of corn bread. When I got up to leave, she called me over to the counter and said that since it was my first time there, I'd get a free dessert. You all, I was too full to even try. The food here is both tasty and filling. I was in Richmond for a conference at Eastern Kentucky University. So it was really convenient to stop by. But I'd say that even if you're remotely close, it's worth a visit. Don't, as I did, judge a book by its cover.

Washing it down with a cold beer made it all a winning combo! Some tips: If you are going, check their Facebook. They are open limited days/hours plus they aren't a huge operation so do take days off if it strikes their fancy. Go early and expect a wait. We showed up 5 minutes after opening and all stools were full and standing room only. Just get a beer and wait your turn.

Well to start off we eat here at this waffle house every Saturday morning and have done so for 4 years now. But I think maybe this will be the last Saturday we visit until the corporate office can change all of the bs here. Let's start off with this incase the corporate office isnt aware of food handler safety we pulled into the parking lot to see an employee outside smoking so we went in and our usual serve came to the tablegit our drinks and then the employee (Ashley) came in went straight behind the counter never washed her hands pulled out her phone (BEHIND) the counter and was on it for some time. We brought this to the manager (Gayle) on shift and she said yeah they always do that. REALLLLLY. and went straight back to sitting down doing paperwork. This is not the first time we have gone in here to see this same stuff. Not to mention it's a health code violation and if this place is not up to date on hepitits going around open your eyes this place is totally disgusting.
