Stopped in the other night to grab a sandwich and it was pretty good! I had "the boss" cheesesteak. The meat was so tender, and it had a little bit of spice to it. Anchorage's "hood spot" - best wings in town, period. The chicken tenders are so massive it's more like a half of a chicken breast that's been breaded and fried for your gustatory pleasure. 10 years ago, I went to Straight Out Of Philly and had a great sandwich, but a few days ago I went back and ordered the Boss without onions due to my allergy to onions and the owner seemed very irritated with my request stating that "it comes with onions!". I apologized and said that I was allergic to onions to which he stated indignantly "yeah sure?", as he looked down at the paper and ignored me. The sandwich still had some onions on it, but I didn't notice until it was too late. I have spent the last 3 days sick with diarrhea and vomiting. It was nothing like I remembered. The bread was really dry and the fries were cold and limp. It's so sad when people just stop caring about others. I can't recommend it and I'll never go back! read more

Straight Out of Philly is not the newest or shiniest place. The parking is limited and the interior is snug, but the food is good. We came in and ordered, and it didn't take long to get our food. My burger was so tasty. It was cooked nicely, the toppings were fresh, and the bun was nice and soft. The fries were cooked well and were salted to perfection. First philly cheese steak I've tried I'm Anchorage and it's delicious! Went with double meat, because why not?!? Slightly regretted it after consuming it ALL in one sitting, but glad I did it regardless! Honestly, I think I would've been upset if I had only single serving of meat as the bread is slightly on the thicker side. Didn't read the description well to see that this one didn't come with grilled cheese or been peppers (hey, I was first introduced to the philly at a mall... whaddya expect?) but would definitely go back to try. I opted for a salad, which I think is a bit overpriced, BUT it was fresh just expensive for the size. The onion rings were AMAZING and the homemade ranch is a 10/10. I was on a low carb diet for over a year. I no longer am, but eating at a place like this still feels, somehow "wrong". It feels dirty. I feel the sugar surging in my veins. These philly's are massive carb-bombs, as they should be. Bread, white bread, as far as the eye can see! Oh, and they also come with fries! I ordered takeout (heard the interior is small and not that accommodating: this is correct), and the fries were already well past their prime. Not sure if my order just came up earlier than the estimated 20 minutes or what. I would've gotten there early had I known they sandos came with fries. Fries are so fickle. They must be consumed QUICKLY, or they turn to cardboard. I got the hot philly with double meat. It was good! The bread still made up the bulk of the volume. I wish there were more jalapenos or, better yet, fresh jalapenos (rather than pickled). This venue isn't a looker, and it's kind of hidden. Makes for a good takeout option though. The cheesesteak is pretty good wish they toasted their bread a bit longer so it wouldn't seem soggy. The bread is very soft which makes it a bit weird and soggy feeling. The fries that came with it tasted expired, like you were eating styrofoam, wish they could do a better job with their fries. I came across another hole in the wall and must say, just go. The cheesesteaks here are on point. They made me feel like I was back home for a minute. We also had the chicken wings. They were super crispy and good. My only complaint would be the ranch for the wings. It is hard on the Mayo side. Also, at one point, I wanted to change my mind because of the strong smell of dirty, wet rags that powers the place while you are sitting waiting for your food. Truth be told, I will not be going there anymore because when I went to order last Friday, the owner (who works the front end on the weekends) got angry with m when I told him that the French fries haven't been very good the last couple of time and he told me "don't order from me then" and hung up on me. Their Phillies and wings are very good. Loaded with flavor, and filling. I actually ended up eating the wings later in the day after putting down the philly. Never tried this place before and the lady that gave me my order told me I'd be back. I certainly will. The fries on the other hand are really nothing special. I unexpectedly got a side order of fries with both the wings and the philly and most of them went to the trash. No real flavor, no salt, just cheap filler that could use some work. I only ate the Avocado Chicken Philly - breaded chicken with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, avocado, mayonnaise, and cheese - for 7 or 8 years before switching 100% to the Boss Philly - steak with Canadian bacon, grilled onion, green pepper, jalapeno, pineapple, and cheese.
