I had an appointment with Kate yesterday, and she did an awesome job! The salon itself is cute, not ultra trendy and over the top - more of a homey type feel in downtown Livermore. The last time I got my hair cut, I went to a random person at Ulta because I was in a rush and getting out of town the next day and just needed a quick cut. As we started chatting, I quickly found out that this stylist had recently broke up with her bf - and she was wildly talking about the drama. Each chop of the scissors represented her hatred for that man - she ruined my hair like she was Edward scissor hands! It's been over 6 months since I've had my haircut due to needing to let it grow out. Needless to say I was nervous to have a new person style my hair again, but I've recently moved to California and needed a new stylist anyway. Kate listened to what happened last time (because as she looked at my hair she could tell how choppy and uneven the previous stylist had left my hair). She also listened to what I wanted in regards to color and did her best to execute it. When it came time to trim my hair, she was very quiet and concentrated on what she was doing - which I totally appreciate after the past trauma of the crazy drama stylist! 2.5 stars because she was nice & the place was clean. I went to try Teresa because my usual stylist was out of town for 4 months & I really needed a haircut. Badly. I was also hoping to find an alternate & get new ideas. Teresa was very nice, and I mentioned I like long loose layers, but she gave me a blunt all-one-length cut, and it really is boring & does not do much for me. She may be great at coloring (which I did not get) but I was not impressed with the cut. She did not give me a mirror to check it or give any feedback, her next client had come in & that was that. Maybe this was because I used a groupon, the value listed was $70, could have gotten the same cut for $20, and I spent $29, so I guess I really got what I paid for & not a deal. Realized I've never yelped the place considering I've already been here TWICE! The funny thing is, I actually started coming here just because of Teresa! She used to work at another Salon my mom had a Groupon for, and I fell in love with her work. :) I ended up getting her highlights-haircut combo, which I don't regret for a second; the job was phenomenal! Why do we go to a hair stylist? Because we care about our appearance. When we sit down in that chair, we trust that stylist to honestly tell us their capabilities. If they make a mistake, we trust them to be transparent and offer correction/restitution. On 10/1/20, I went for the first time to Kristina Yarbrough. We discussed my desired haircut and color. On this day she did my highlights and cut. The highlights came out OK, but could have been blended better and should have been taken right to the scalp. Instead, the highlights started about 1/2 - 1 inch from the scalp. The cut, a forward-angled bob, was OK but she didn't seem to understand that the back layering needs to be stacked a little more, even though I had pictures. A few days later when I washed my hair, I discovered that the angle was not clean; instead, kind of zigzag. On 10/15/20, I went back to have Kristina do my touch-up color. I had previously told her three times what my formula was. She never wrote it down while I told her so I hoped she would remember. After she finished and blew my hair dry, it looked a little lighter than usual but it was hard to tell in the salon lighting. When I got home I could clearly see that the roots were too light. I knew it would be one of two things: 1) she used the Redken Color Gel instead of the Color Fusion, or 2) she did not apply it enough to cover everything adequately. I called the next morning and left her a message; asking which formula she used. To date (10 days later), she never called me back. Regarding the cut, she did fix the angle but got a little snippy when she asked, "What else?" At that point I dared not mention the layering. Obviously, this is very poor customer service on all accounts. I am just letting people know that she cannot be trusted. She should have told me immediately that my roots did not come out as dark as previous applications because I know she could see it. Additionally, she should have either not charged me or offered another time to fix it. read more

I have really thick wavy hair and my cut has never been right, I have tried explaining to my previous hairstylist multiple different ways but never got my point across I guess. After building this awesome trust (because blowouts are hit or miss) I had her do my hair and makeup for my birthday and OH my god, I've never gotten so many compliments. No joke, she's one of the best hair AND makeup artists I've ever seen. Now I go to her regularly for coloring and haircuts, her ombré and balayage especially are amazing! I liked this place -- it's got a neo-boho vibe, is very clean, and super relaxing. The stylists bring you a soda while you wait, let you chill out with a magazine, it's very much like being pampered. I came here with a groupon and got the shampoo & rinse, a hair cut, and highlights. Teresa was my stylist and she did a really good job, although I was disappointed that the highlights weren't more visible. I'd told her that I wanted the most natural look and she really did give me natural so I guess next time I should say "natural but something that stands out..." I'm not really a girly-girl -- I don't get manicures or haircuts very often, but it was nice to be spoiled this once. I recommend this place to people who enjoy that sort of thing. I LOVE Jamie! I've been seeing Jamie for 3 years now and I can't imagine letting anyone else touch my hair. She knows exactly what to do to take me from a mousy brown to a vibrant blonde (especially when I don't visit as regularly as I would like to). Erin is the best!! I will never every go anywhere else, and I STRONGLY recommend you go see her for your cut, color or both! When I first went into see Erin, I had an ombre with dark brown and copper red. Erin has since brought me to my natural blonde (minus the grays) with gorgeous lowlights. She has also done my tape-in extensions on multiple occasions, and rocked em! She makes them look so natural when she cuts them, and not one falls out between our 6-8 week appointments. I walked into Strands for an appt a while back with a new extensions girl that I was trying for the first time. The girl sitting at the desk was Courtney and she told me the other girl wasn't there. I was going to Cabo the following week and wanted some extensions put in my hair. I asked Courtney if she did them and she said yes. She offered an appt in a few days. A few days later I got to my appt and Courtney was so nice and easy to talk to but was quick and rough with pulling my other extensions out. My extensions were not the right color and I figured she would tone them so they were at least close to my own color. She quickly put on blondish brown extensions. Her next appt got there and she told me she was going to give me gloves, a bottle to mix the toner and the toner so I could do it myself at home. I paid her the $150 and never went back. I found a new girl who I go to and love. I should have yelped this experience a long time ago but never got around to it. I bought the groupon for Theresa and was not disappointed! I had a cut and highlights and absolutely love it! I had previously had a hair cut at super cuts :-( and my slight trim turned in to a nightmare. Theresa rescued my bad cut and rocked my highlights. Kristina is the best. I've been to a few people around town and just never found anyone who can make the decisions I couldn't make about my hair. I'm if that age where the grays start popping up beyond the plucking attempts. She recommended a highlight since I didn't want high maintenance and she nailed it! Grays disappeared and I didn't need to go back for almost 3 months. We tried a bit bolder the next visit and I got home and had a bit of blonde shock even though I grew up a toehead.
