First time experiencing Strange Bird and I have to say that I had a wonderful time! Side note: whoever trained the staff there did an amazing job because the service was Fab from the time we entered to the time we left! Okay, moving on... When my friend and I arrived for a much needed girls night out it was packed. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait but we decided to hang out and just have a drink while standing. It didn't take that long for something to open up and to our surprise we shared a table with two other ladies. We spoke to them and preceded to talk to our respective parties. When our amazing drinks came out (mine had a little garnished fire at the top of it) it sparked conversation among all 4 of us and we tried each other's drinks. Lol It was pretty hilarious. We all enjoyed the intimacy of the place and the decor definitely screamed tiki bar. I ordered the tofu rice and the Kristine (our host was amazeballs) was kind enough to bring out additional plates so we shared. We loved it. If you like spicy rice then you'll enjoy this dish. My friend and I laughed, ate well, had great conversation with strangers and gained new foodie buddies. Communal eating was really cool and it creates a vibe that gently introduce us to new things. The drinks are pretty... a lot of ice of ice but overall the pricing is on point. Definitely visit the Strange Bird, I'm sure it's going to be a lot of fun when the weather warms up. We also LOVED their play list! GAH! Every song was on point. It wasn't too loud which made having conversation easy. We asked Kristine about the playlist and she happily gave it to us.... I recently tried a new place for drinks called @strangebirdindy ! I tried the Saturn which has Gin and passionfruit ! We also tried Halekulani which has Bourbon and Pineapple! I definitely love a craft cocktail and these drinks were I can't wait to return and try the ramen ! read more

I love Irvington and I'm so glad they added this cool bar to the town. And let me tell you, this place is awesome!! The drinks are delicious!! Fresh ingredients and cool presentations. The vibe is so up my alley and reminds me of everything Hawaii. Makes me feel nostalgic and want to go back. I'm always skeptical of trying ramen at a place that's meant to be more like bar food. But boy was I wrong! The white truffle ramen is the best in Indiana and crazy for me to say out loud but possibly even one of the bests I've ever had. You could tell the noodles were so fresh and the pork belly just melts in our mouth. Only wish there was one more half of egg and a little more meat because it was to die for. We got the tres leches cake for dessert. It was a pineapple flavored tres leche. If you're expecting a super moist cake, you might be a little disappointed. However, it's equally as delicious! It tasted like a pineapple upside down cake. I'm already craving going back for more ramen. I'll be back soon!!! read more

This place will make you feel like you are not in Indiana. The food was pretty good, though the tonkatsu ramen was a bit on the saltier side. The oysters were surprisingly pretty good. This looks like a cool place, but we went on a Sunday specifically for their half price oysters. When we were seated they told us they are out of oysters and run out most weeks. It was less than two hours after they opened. It would be one thing to run out on occasion, but every week seems to just be a ploy with the special to get people to drive across town to not deliver on that and then people have to order other things. Afraid I probably won't be back which stinks because it could be a nice place, but the bait and switch leaves a bad taste that their other food cannot remove. read more

My friend and I went to Strange Bird for the first time on a Friday evening. At about 6:30p there was a 20 minute way. Positive while you wait is that you can order drinks from a limited drink menu. The resto does have sitting in both the Strange Bird portion and Landlocked Baking Co. portion of the building. My friend and I shared an order of oysters. Oysters are priced per one. The oysters tasted fresh, and my friend who can be critically on oysters sold in the Midwest enjoyed these. We also ordered carb ragoons, which were bomb. The sweet and sour sauce that accompanied the carb ragoons was really good and it tasted like it was made in house. We also each order our own ramen. I forget the name, but it was super savory and delicious ! You can also order food from the Heartbreaker if that suits your fancy. Service was great and staff was friendly. Our server was definitely knowledgeable to two indecisive individuals. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back ! There is a parking lot in front, but also free street parking if the lot is full. read more

My friend and I met here after her recommendation. We really wanted to try the ramen and decided to make the trip to the east side. I had never explored the east side but they have some good looking restaurants and I need to go over there more often! We met up on a Saturday night and we had about a 15 minute wait until we got seated at the bar top. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive. I'm glad we were seated at the bar because my friend had previously been here and said the service was awful. Luckily we didn't have that experience this time! I would love to come back and try some other food. We ordered the ramen (literally had no idea what was in this) but it was some of the best dang ramen I've had. We also ordered the crab rangoon and it was delicious. The decor was very cute and vibey. The mood lighting really set the tone of your experience. Overall, a little more pricey than other places but 100% worth it. read more

I didn't know a thing about rum before I started frequenting Strange Bird. And this place, like all the Small Victories, manage to take what they do seriously without being too serious about it to be obnoxious or inaccessible. It's fun to try something new every time I visit Strange Bird, and it keeps me coming back. The cocktails are some of the best in town, and there's something on the menu for any palate. But while I tend to order the same standard at most places I visit, at Strange Bird I always find myself picking a different item on the drink list. I don't eat oysters, but vicariously, I'll add that everyone I know who cares about oysters says Strange Bird is the only place in Indy with great ones. I have a lot of pals from New England who confidently say that their sourcing and selection hold a candle to oyster bars on the coast, easily. read more

I love this place! I wish it wasn't so far from me but driving over here is always worth it. They have their own parking lot so that's always nice. However, when it does get crowded on weekends, then there are some street/neighborhood parking nearby. The drinks are always great :) They even make mocktail drinks if you ask! The patio is also a great sitting area and the inside is nice as well! read more

Being down the street from Strange Bird is a dangerous game. The walkable area lands this place at the top of my date night list. Walking in to Strange Bird (landlocked bakery during the day) you instantly feel like you are back on vacation, where's that vacation? That's up to you! The the theme is great, but I'm here for the drinks. I've managed to make my way through most of the menu, while there isn't a bad drink I definitely have my favorites. The classic Painkiller and Mai Tai are my go to drinks. Both are delicious and perfect for any night you just want to escape your day to day drink. Now, let's talk food! Coconut crusted pork tenderloin, don't make me say it again! This thing is pure perfection! Indiana tradition meets tropical getaway, you couldn't ask for anything more! You have to share a basket of the salt and pepper golden fries, crispy golden perfection! The crab Rangoon is also killer with the little bit of heat they put in the sweet and sour dipping sauce. While this place can get a little pricey, it's worth it. Shout out to the bar staff who are phenomenal and the wait staff who know those drinks backwards and forwards, all of them are true rockstars! read more

Came in tonight with a friend to check it out. I loved that it was within walking distance from my friends apartment. I also really loved the tiki atmosphere with the cool tropical drinks they offer. My friend got key lime pie and I got gyoza because we had a meal before hand. They were both okay. I'll be back for the discounted oysters on Sunday! Okay, so I admit. If you give me a Painkiller I would probably be happy as a clam just about anywhere, but Strange Bird is different! This tiki-themed bar and restaurant is a must visit in Indy. They have a slew of different tropical themed drinks and finger foods that are perfect for a weekday out. Because it's location is a bit farther from downtown, it's more of a destination than a pit stop. Make sure to take the whole evening here to try all of the drinks (especially the Painkiller) and to enjoy the ambiance and music. I'm not sure what his name was, but our server was so charismatic! He made sure we understood the menu fully, helped us decide what drinks and food to try that we would like, and just went out of his way to make our first experience at Strange Bird awesome. I have to be honest, I'm not sure why this place isn't located downtown because I'm sure they would make a killing! Pro-Tip: One word: Painkiller! read more

Met a friend at this rum and oyster bar in Irvington. They have a nice patio with lots of sun shades. The cocktail menu is diverse, they have more than just rum based cocktails. I order the painkiller. It came in a fancy skull mug and was properly garnished. It was appropriately balanced. Not too sweet, which is always my worry with drinks like these. My friend got the mai tai and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The food menu is small, but they had some interesting options. Poke fries sounded great, but we opted for the crab Rangoon. The Rangoon were crispy and came with a sweetly not to spicy sauce that was awesome. Definitely recommend this hidden Irvington gem! read more

When I say this food is amazing, I mean it. You can just tell they care about every flavor factor. I have been craving this every day since I had it a week ago. When you think of ramen, sure it's good. But this place is different. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the dish has been thought through to perfection! No offense to people that said they don't like it in other comments because it means they probably don't like flavor. Haha. Service is pretty good also. Tons of parking. Great food and drinks! This place has a cool tiki vibe that's great for GNO, catching up with a pal, or a lazy Sunday enjoying oysters and a drink! One note, please tell hostesses that it's polite to show folks to their seats (even if it's at the bar) and to make sure dirty dishes are cleaned up before seating folks. It was my first time there so it was a bit weird that after waiting for seats I had to go find them myself. I was a little skeptical driving up but loved it. The inside is a whole unique vibe. We got in pretty quick for a Friday night (15 minute wait) and were greeted right away. The menu is small but I got the ramen and it was delicious. The both had good flavor and the portion of everything on the ramen was good. The only thing that was a miss for me is being able to add things to the ramen like you can at other places. Other than that, it was great. read more

Strange Bird kind of goes along with the name as some may argue it is strange to be dining in a POD, yes I said POD, a POD that is only for you and your party. The POD is secluded with a great vibe on the inside. The concept of the pods adds to The unique dining experience and makes you feel more protected from COVID-19. The service was great and friendly and everything came out in a timely manner. You may have to wait a little bit of time before getting a POD because as of now there are no reservations that you are able to make ahead of time. I had the Jet pilot and the Portlight, both were delicious. Personally I like the jet light over the port light as I felt like it was a little more refreshing and not as sweet. I tried some of the catamaran and lonesome in Bangkok and I would highly recommend lonesome in Bangkok although it is on the sweet side slightly it was so refreshing and truly tasted exactly as described and made you feel like you were in Bangkok. I guess with Covid times that's all we can ask for right? A drink that makes us feel like we are in a different country? But wait the poke fries, you have to get them. When I say you have to get them I mean it. They truly are delicious and one of a kind. I love poke but I never had it and fries form, however it's not actual fries, they are chips, but it's still delicious. I would say that I felt like they were a little bit overboard on the sauce but that's OK I still thoroughly enjoy these poke fries and would definitely order them again. I hope you appreciate the pictures were taken to give you a visual experience of what dining at strange Bird is like during Covid. Oh and I cannot forget the best part of this experience I would have to say with a random carolers that showed up outside, 'tis the season. Irvington is a great area that is not too far from downtown Indianapolis and you have got to spend some time exploring all that it has to offer. read more

We wanted to sit in chairs with backs and when they sat us at a table with stools, we asked and they didn't really offer a solution. There were some highbacked chairs in the corner, but the table between them was small and low to the ground... I wish the waiter had just asked us to wait 15 minutes for someone to leave, but that was not an option, apparently. Leaving the old photos from my visit a year ago, including the old lettuce wraps.
