Back in January I visited Cholita Taqueria in Broad Ripple for the first time. We went there with friends for a Sofar Sounds event. It was a Friday night and the bar & restaurant were packed! We sat downstairs below the restaurant where they have a second bar. The chips and salsa were yummy. So were the $5 drink specials. I believe it was a tamarind Margarita that night--tangy with just the right amount of punch. One of our friends familiar with Cholita suggested we come back for Sunday Brunch which is exactly what we did a couple weeks later. The service was excellent and the food even better. My husband and I visited with a couple friends. We started with Cholita Margaritas, which were fine but nothing special. Our second round was the Naked Margarita with a tajin rim. That was tasty! For appetizers, we ordered Chips and Guacamole plus Queso Fundido. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful. The queso was rich and perfectly seasoned. The highlight of our meal came when we spotted a dramatic presentation at another table. A server carried out a dish on a sword. We asked our server, Anabelle, about it. She described the Taco Espada (Taco Sword), and we immediately knew we wanted it. This showstopper features Fischer Farms ribeye, pork sausage, adobo chicken, roasted peppers, onions, melted queso fundido and creamy bacon and chile de arbol salsa. It's served with warm tortillas, fresh guacamole and charro beans. Each meat was cooked to perfection. Every bite burst with flavor. There was plenty of food for all four of us. Anabelle was a delight. She was cheerful and friendly, checking on us at the right moments without hovering. She gave us a heads up about the wait time for our entree, which we appreciated. Came in for the tail-end of brunch with my folks while visiting. Many thank you's and appreciative shout-outs to the staff who graciously moved their prep stuff, as my Mom walked past the 'see hostess to be seated' sign and sat herself at the center-bar table of 8 (we're a party of 3) as soon as we were greeted. Really hoping it was a hunger fugue state for her. Brunch menu was coming to a close; tried the chicken torta, shrimp tacos, Baja tacos, chicken tostada, corn cup, and chips and guac with the parents. Dad's tostada was Mexican-brunch fusion, crispy and delicious. Shrimp tacos were the hit. Chicken tostada was stacked and tender. Mom wasn't a big fan of the corn cup - the Cheetos weren't as hot as she expected and the small cup made a mess while she tried to stir. went for brunch with my cousins on sunday. the prices are amazing. you can get breakfast and mexican entrees during the block so we had a mixture of food. there's a dj playing music during. the selection was bomb but it's loud, so definitely consider if you enjoy this style of dining before you go. i joined them late but the service was great while i was there and i didn't hear any complaints from anyone. the food was brought out quickly and fresh i think all of us hope for a regular queso read more

It was my second time at Cholita. The first time was over 2 years ago, and I didn't think too much of this place back then... but after visiting them again, it's now my favorite spot! Here is why. Their taco menu is unique... I almost ordered the Brussels sprouts taco but I ended up changing my mind. I had al pastor and Carne Asada Vampire. I was there for a private event and wanted something quick to munch on. Al pastor was not what I had imagined. Every "Al pastor" tacos I had before, had pineapples cooked together with the rest. But here, pineapple was just a topping. And it was a lot of them. Not sure what to think about it, I moved on to carne asada and that was SO good. So juicy and tasteful. The service was good too. I'm a sucker for Mexican food and for a good apology, so a friend and I went back to Cholita after hearing from the general manager in response to my initial review. And you know what? They did not disappoint! Being fair, we sat outdoors in the same section in the heated patio, and had the pleasure of Kayla being our server once again. She was fabulous and very attentive. We also opted for the same menu items as before, and were delighted to find the beans and guacamole flavorful and the shrimp on the tacos plentiful. The pitcher of margaritas was super tasty this time around, and even came with a tall spoon to keep the drinks stirred and balanced. What a great touch! Thanks again to the GM of Cholita for reaching out and helping make our second visit such a success. It says a lot about a business when they care so much about their customers. I rarely give 5 stars but this is absolutely worth it! I went for their all you can eat Sunday brunch special and it was absolutely incredible! For $25 you get unlimited food and they have a vast array of appetizers, breakfast items, lunch options, tacos, and desserts. The alcoholic drinks were also very affordable and delicious. Cholita Taqueria is a fun place if you're looking to enjoy a fun atmosphere with good food on a screened in patio. The street being right by the patio makes it a bit loud at times but it is still rather comfortable out there. Our server was also very sweet. Our tacos were fine, mine were a little soggy. One thing I would recommend a thousand times over is the birria grilled cheese. This is a birria cheese that's been baked in a cast iron dish and served with little tortilla wedges. You can get some insane cheese pulls from it! Aside from that, it is also very delicious cheese, like a mozzarella but with a little more saltiness to it. I'd certainly come again, and will definitely get more birria cheese! read more

Cholita is hands down my go-to taco place in Indy. I'm sure there are plenty more places I've yet to try, and these are by no means traditional tacos (other great places for those), but every taco on the menu is unique from the rest and packed with flavor. I would rate the worst Taco I ever had here as just 'yummy'. Service attentiveness can vary a little bit based on who you get for your table, but everyone is always friendly and I haven't had an order messed up ever. Be sure to look at the daily specials board inside the restaurant just past the bar. It isn't always mentioned. The place has kind of a lounge vibe and from time to time the music can be a bit loud to have a conversation, but I'm often enjoying the food so much I don't notice. The location is great for people watching (although we sat inside due to the heat). I had the wildberry mule, which was fantastic. I ordered chips & salsa and a birria taco. This quickly turned to two tacos and one to go. They were great! My friend had the al pastor and brussel sprout taco. Neither one were a disappointment. There is an unlimited food option option for 25/person, your full table must participate (2 hour limit). The "stuffed churros" are more like donuts. Birria sliders had great flavor as did the queso. Slider pretzel buns were a bit stale. Appreciated the heads up from the waitress that the queso is thicker (think cheese pull, not dip). Champagne bottle comes with 2 juices - the juice cups are small and are refillable for a fee. The passion fruit juice was more of a syrup and delicious! Cholita is our family go to for tacos. It has a busy, fast paced vibe. We're usually able to sit right down without a reservation around 6 on a Fri or Sat, but it does seem to start filling up as it gets closer to 7. Staff is always welcoming and have been very kid friendly. The interior is a little small , but they have a very nice outside covered patio overlooking Broad Ripple avenue. They don't have a kids menu, but can make a cheese quesadilla that my kids love. My husband and I love the Cholita Margarita and it always comes out quickly. The food comes out quickly. We've been dining here for over 5 years, once La Mulita closed. We order our tacos with the side piece that includes delicious beans. The menu has some constants, like the shrimp taco and el pastor, which are consistently well done. There are usually new flavorful ones to try, which is fun. Though recently they have moved to more fried, crispy, melty cheese options which seem a bit heavier and greasy to me. You can ask for a soft corn shell instead of fried, which I like better. Over the last year or so they really increased the amount of meat they put in each taco which negatively affects the balance of flavors and mouthfeel. So we always eat some meat from it with a fork and then eat the taco, which makes them better. We do love this place, but recently they have fewer options, decreased the side piece from 3 tacos to 2, and got rid of our favorite, the Barbe'Q. Our waiter said it was due to the cost of brisket. I'm hoping they aren't struggling and are here to stay. It seems if they put a little less meat in the tacos they could make more delicious tacos for the cost. read more

Came here with a friend for dinner and we were both extremely satisfied. The minute we walked in I couldn't help but take in all the cool artwork on the walls and lighting. The host was very friendly and quickly seated us at a table. Our server was quick as well and provided great input on our choices while we scanned the menu. I don't venture to broad ripple much and decided to stop at Cholita. I enjoyed it last time and I enjoyed it just the same this time. I got there early, around 2pm, so it was not busy. I sat at the bar and ordered their house margarita and one grilled shrimp adobo taco. That taco was amazing, messy but so many incredible flavors going on. If you go you have to try it but it may not be the best option if you're on a date....like I said it's gets messy quick. The service was slow....it took awhile before they gave me a menu and just as long to get my order but I wasn't in a rush. They have indoor seating and a cover patio section. Still love this place, it's one of my favorites and doesn't disappoint the service has always been stellar and the brunch has such great options. The all you can eat is awesome but you can't go wrong with an app and and main course. Decided to split my favorite queso fundito which is very tasty, I like to add mushrooms and then I got the pork belly tostada which was tender, juicy and had a great salsa on it as well. The Bloody Mary is one of my favorites, I order it spicy you can make it a Maria if you want. The snacks that come with it are always fresh. I also had a tasty house margarita with a spicy smoky rim. The tacos were better than I remembered from last time I went. But for transparency, I'm a big fan of authentic street-style tacos, so the Americanized ones don't usually do it for me. The guacamole and chips were just okay - kind of a letdown since finding a good sturdy chip at a Mexican restaurant shouldn't be hard. They've got some specials on different days and do events like trivia and DJ nights, which can make it feel pretty lively. It can also get really busy, with long waits depending on the time you go. Service was good though. I tried their mockarita this time and actually loved it. If you're after a non-alcoholic margarita, this one's pretty tasty. If my Mexican grandparents were still alive, they would throw la chancla at me if they heard I paid $5 for a single taco. But I visited Cholita Taqueria anyway because I was in the mood for only one taco. Just one! I just needed a little something to tide me over before an appointment that I had in Broad Ripple. So I got one taco and a glass of wine, and it was a nice little snack. The taco that I got was the chile relleno taco, which isn't listed on their online menu but was on their paper menu. It's a taco with a roasted poblano pepper, stuffed with cheese and vegetables, with red salsa, crema and cilantro. I savored every bite of the chile relleno taco! It was soft and juicy and savory, with just the right amount of salsa and crema. I enjoyed eating it while sipping my wine, although I don't know that I'd recommend getting wine at Cholita Taqueria: they have wine here, but they have an even better selection of margaritas, tequila, and other drinks that pair way better with tacos. I'm just stubborn and really wanted wine, and fortunately, Cholita had some. I ate my mini meal in the bar area, but they have booth seating and some outdoor seating that is covered during the winter. read more

We stopped by on a Thursday night. Atmosphere was cozy and tavern like- great relaxing vibe but probably much busier on weekends. They have a full bar with a nice tequila list. We got the queso fundido w mushrooms as an app and it was very good. Then we got 3 taxi's each- all were good. I had the al pastor, the quesobiria and the cauliflower. The quesobiria was the star- perfectly savory and melty w a crisp shell. The cauliflower was well roasted w pickled veggies and was very nice. Another wonderful experience - on 1/8/23, friends and family gathered to celebrate some birthdays. As often as I have been to Cholita's, I have never tried a Sunday Brunch. Sunday is just as great as the Saturday Brunch; only you have a Dj. The service was excellent, as always. I noticed they've changed the amount of stuff you can order during brunch days. Usually, I could quickly get two items at a time. I enjoy that option as this is a small plate brunch. It was a bit too much, having to eat a taco with five other people at the table, to wait to order something else. Nothing major; I want others to know what to expect. The menu had changed since my last visit. I learned it changes every few months. This time there was a torta option. I did not get a chance to order one. However, looking at the one someone in our party ordered, I am glad I did not. Sadly, the bread is really thick, and the friend decided not to eat the overcooked chicken. The bottle of champagne and/or pitcher of margaritas is an affordable option to take if you plan on having more than one. Stop by and enjoy a Saturday or Sunday Brunch. read more

They have some very creative tacos to choose some even a few for vegetarians. The pricing is decent and they have some fantastic bartenders. There is plenty of seating however if you don't get there at a decent time you may have to wait. While visiting my sister we went to lunch in Broadripple (my old neighborhood). Did a search for Mexican food and Cholita came up. Our server was Bella- very friendly and helpful with menu questions. I am a few family members met up here this past Sunday for brunch. I'd been wanting to visit because they have a DJ there during brunch and I thought it would be a vibe. It was, but only due to the people that I was there with! Our served told us that it was the slowest Sunday brunch she'd experienced since she started working there. Maybe it was due to the rain, the construction in the area or the fact that Thanksgiving had just passed, but it was pretty empty and little dead. They offer an unlimited brunch for $25 where you can order any and all of the brunch offerings (one at a time) for one price, but everyone at the table has to do it. After looking at the menu and realizing that the two things I definitely wanted to order would have me at $17, I decided to go unlimited so that I could try out a few more options as well. The food came out FAST and our server would ask each time if we wanted to put in an order for something else. We could barely keep up. I enjoyed the queso fundido with chorizo, but it did solidify pretty quickly being that I was eating it alone. I also tried the Adobo Chicken tacos ( I would rate it a 2/5 for lack of flavor) and the Al Pastor tacos (also a 2/5 for the meat being a little tough and flavorless). I enjoyed the churro donut, but it was really sweet, so I only had a couple bites. There were also lots of drink specials for pitchers of margaritas, bottles of champagne with juice for mimosas and an array of other things. I would go again just to give it another shot.
