Why do I wait so long between visits to Strange Bird when everything is always amazing?! As soon as you walk in the doors, you are greeted with the cutest tiki themed area. Comfy couches and chairs to wait for your table and intimate lighting throughout. The place is not large, so I do recommend reservations. The food and drinks! The drinks are beautiful and fun - they have have zero proof! I recommend the pina nolada. As for the food, you literally can't go wrong. From the gyoza, wings, katsu curry, or ramen- you will be so happy! I can't wait to go back next time to get some oysters!

If you are looking for an all around cool experience this is the place. The tiki bar interior is super fun, drinks are creative and tasty, and then you add flavorful ramen... YUM. Made a reservation to sit on the bar side and was glad I did. Fun to see the bartender making the cocktails, felt alittle more lively. Tried a few of their cocktails; Scorpion reef would usually be my go-to because I love mezcal (plus the presentation is awesome- they set the drink on fire!) but the Gold Rush took the cake. Ramen wise, as long as you like a little spice go Tantanmen all the way. By FAR the best flavor. Curry wings were a hit or miss for my group. Personally thought that they were saucy and tasty. Meat fell right off the bone. Server was friendly. Definitely trying to make drink sales but who can blame the guy haha. All in all fun place to take friends if you are looking for something completely unique!

Dental phobia friends BEWARE! The blender or I don't know exactly what but I assume the blender sounds exactly like the dentist chair drilling. It is very triggering. Someone needs to warn us Homies that had less than ideal Dental experience growing up. Also, what in the world it was Saturday and Last call at 7:40...what?! we had two different kinds of Ramen, and order of the wings, we also had the rice bowl, oysters, and the gyoza dumplings. The desserts were sold out by the time we arrived for a 6 o'clock reservation, the only option we could have was rum cake. The drinks were delicious as expected, but no dessert and the dental triggering made it difficult to enjoy my evening out with friends.

Atmosphere is really cool, looks like a tiki hut inside and has a cool outdoor space. We love Irvington and this restaurant is right in the middle of some beautiful older homes away from the hustle and bustle. The Bao Buns are amazing and we will definitely go back for the teriyaki wings. Service was kind of slow but it was a busy Saturday night so it wasn't a deal breaker for a return visit.

Went here to celebrate my birthday. Unique tiki style interior and love that the menu isn't five pages long. We made a reservation as I heard it can get pretty busy. We were seated immediately. All of the dishes were delicious and the drinks looked like the pictures on the menu. The broth in the ramen was rich and flavorful. You definitely will not leave here hungry. Look forward to coming back.

Super cute tiki restaurant with delicious offerings from tiki themed cocktails to Asian comfort foods. We shared oysters, bao buns, gyoza, and crudo. We also had drinks and ramen dishes. Everything was delicious. It was a great experience. We came early hoping to beat a crowd on a Friday night, which worked. It filled up pretty quickly and they had a wait when we left.

Was here for a great oysters and bubbles class, and had time to kill before it started, so I enjoyed a great holiday drink before the class started! It was festive and a tasty combo of spiced rum and cream, even better it came in a cousin eddy glass from Christmas vacation! Love it!

This was another one of stops after Imbibe Magazine featured in Indy. We took a weekend and stopped at most of their recommendation. This place earns its name from the strange make up of menu items. This was the first time I had raw oyster and craft ramen in the same meal - both were awesome! To top is off they have great cocktail menu!

First time there and we sat at the bar. The bartender was so nice even though he was so busy. Loved that they have mocktails that are actually pretty and delicious! We had happy hour oysters that were delicious, ramen that was legit and then desserts that we inhaled -- pineapple hibiscus tarte and key lime pie. There is a nice island vibe with lofi music which makes for good chill background. We will be back for sure!

Came in to try the tiki drinks and saw they had ramen that could be veganized. Sat at the bar. Lots of seating options, but we like to take to the bartender. She was pleasant, but not friendly. Ordered two drinks: Strong Order and Scorpion Reef. Both okay, but not good enough to order more drinks. Strong Order was supposed to have Chartreuse in it, but you couldn't taste a drop. Split a ramen soup. Nothing special on the soup unless you count the cherry tomatoes in it. That was a first. The place was good for a one and done. The bill lowered my review significantly. The kitchen gratuity was a surprise (3%). I'm all for getting something to back of house. Just let your customers know. The worst part of the bill was a $2 uncharge for "spice on the side". We didn't request this and it was pushed by the bartender ("do you want the spice on the side?" Uh, sure I guess). Now I know why they suggest because they make money on it. What a joke. In summary: this bar is tiki adjacent, but not tiki. Drinks are good, but not great. Food prices are high for what you get. The ramen is good, but not great. Vegan options are limited to switching the broth to vegetable. Wouldn't go back.

We were told if you weren't in line at 5 you may not get in. It was true. On Sunday's they serve 1/2 price oysters. We were greeted right away. Although they had outdoor seating we were concerned about the weather. We requested indoor seating and were seated in the bar area. The whole restaurant is decorated in a tropical decor. It is like stepping into an old movie set. Just so unique! After a few minutes our server came over to explain the tropical drink menu. (It looked like a menu out of an old black and white movie. I loved it) I ordered a gin colada. My husband order mai tai. My drink came right away. My husband's drink did not come until I asked the bartender if they had a drink for our table. They didn't but checked with the wait staff and got it right to us. (The manager comped the drink) We had the oyster special. I don't believe that I have ever had fresher,colder or shucked as well as these oysters.lim We were asked if we wanted extra sauce with our oysters. I wanted Franks but they make their own. It was too hot. My husband ordered seafood sauce. Each extra sauce is $2. They serve the oysters with a mignonette that is frozen. It was delicious They use soy in everything except chicken tenders. I had the chicken due to my soy allergies. They also serve Rama noodles. My husband had some kind of spicy beef. We ended our dinner with key lime pie. It was ok but had some funny sauce in it. It was a unique place to go to. We both said we would go back for oysters and to drink a beer. No plates or napkins were served with the oysters. We had to ask. They had no seafood folks. Ok. These oysters were so well shucked they didn't need a fork Wait staff was not real attentive but did know the menu We will go back for oysters but the menu does not allow me anything I can eat

I've written 493 Yelp reviews, and this is only the 3rd 2-star ever. And honestly I debated making it my 1st 1-star. Sorry, it's a long read, hope you'll hang with me! I've been to Strangebird numerous times; have always enjoyed it. I bring my mom here when she is in town, because we love the half price oysters (5-6pm only), and she doesn't have anyone to eat them with where she lives. So we went at the very end of April 2025 (it's taken me some time to want to write this.) Hubs joined us for dinner, too. Hubs & I had a cocktail (the Painkiller in the skull mug, and the Lost Lake in the flamingo mug), and my mom has a very pretty colada mock tail. The drinks are absolutely gorgeous, even though this time it was definitely heavy on the crushed ice and not a lot of liquid, it was still really yummy. For food, we ordered the bao buns, 4 dozen oysters (we ordered 2 doz, then 2 doz more), the shoyu ramen, the katsu curry, and a dessert. Everything was very beautiful & tasty (see pics). 5 stars if we stop here. Now here's the rub. The waiter brings our bill (which is nearing $300 with a tip). It contained the taxes and also an additional kitchen fee (not server gratuity) - which I expected, because this was listed on the menu that it would be charged. Then I notice that 3 of the doz oysters were listed at half price ( on the receipt as "doz happy hour oysters") , but the 4th was charged full price. I point this out to our server, and say, this is an error, we ordered this before 6pm, and he tells me, "oh it's just 1 doz per person for the half price." I explain that this is neither posted on the chalk board, nor on the menu, nor was it mentioned by him. He basically says, "well that's the way it is." I say, "that doesn't feel good - it's really just not a fair way to charge a customer." He argues with me a bit (not loudly, but also not doing anything), I mention "let's talk to a manger," then on the 4th time I say a little more firmly "how about we talk to a manger" - so he goes to get one. A gentleman comes to our table. I think it might be the person who was actually shucking the oysters. I explain the situation, say, it wasn't listed or said to us anywhere, so it just doesn't seem fair. He Immediately agrees, says no problem, and says our server will get that adjusted for us. Easy-peasey and very nice! -- That felt like really great customer service. I'm thinking about my Yelp review, and I'm getting ready to sing praises! Back to 5 stars! Our server brings the receipt, I thank him for handling that, and even joke "well hey now I can just put even more to your tip!" and he laughs at that. I glance at the receipt, it lists 4 doz all together now, and we pay and leave. We get about a min away when I ask my husband to turn the car around. I realize that, while they have written the 4 doz oysters differently, they have NOT adjusted the price. Line reads $96, but should be $78. I go back in. I wait several minutes at the front (no other patrons waiting). Another man comes to the counter. I explain the situation and say, so we are still really still owed $18. He tells me, no, we are getting half price on the specialty per oyster price, not half price on the dozen happy hour price. (Which by the way, I ordered the happy hour chefs choice dozens, not the specialty per piece ones). He then says this has always been their policy. I reply that well, my first receipt rang up as "half price happy hour dozen" and also, the numerous times I've eaten there, then all of the servers then must have just been generous and kind because that is the way it's always been charged to us. (And also, see my previous reviews where I talk about this!) I restate that we enjoyed our meal, we are frequent visitors, but it's the principal of the error should be absorbed by the establishment, not the customer. He says something else that I can't really remember, but I do remember that my response was, "Well would you rather that I just write a bad review?" On that, he takes money out of his wallet and slaps a $20 on the counter, telling me to keep the change. I pick up the money. He then asks me if I'm really going to take that & nickel and dime them and take "his" money?! I ask, is he really going to do that do a customer instead? I thank him for his attention and leave. So y'all, thanks for hanging with a long read. It took a while to write. Might I eat there again for half price oysters and limit myself to less? Meh, no. Let's face it, I spent almost $300 for dinner (after tip), so yes, I could have spent an additional $18. Or I could have had 2 drinks instead of 1, that's about the same price to easily spend more. But it's the principal of really feeling like they were trying to pull a fast one -- and thinking they did, but they got caught - that will make me take my business elsewhere. They're probably don't care, they'll be plenty successful without me. Just sad! #ReviewsByRL

This place is so fun!! The ambiance inside is quirky and playful. Our service was great for a large party. I ordered the kayak curry with tofu, and it was delicious!!! The tofu was super crispy on the outside and the curry was flavorful. I would come back for this! I didn't order a drink but they had lots of super fun looking cocktails. A great spot

A hipster bar for sure. The Gyoza dumplings were forgettable and quite small. The sauce added little to the taste, was thin and didn't stick to the tiny dumplings. My son had the Shoyu ($19). Normally a fan of Ramen, he complained that the dish was pretty much tasteless. I suggested he try adding some of the spice I had ordered on the side -- for an extra $2.00! He said it helped. My Tonkotsu ($19 before the $2.00 spice) was tasty I suppose, thanks to the additional spice. But it was anything but filling. Some broth, a few noodles and three modest cuts of pork belly hardly seemed worth $19... or $21. The egg added nothing to the dish but a bit of mass. Be aware that there is a 3% kitchen gratuity added to the bill and applies to drinks and tax, not just kitchen items! My opinion on that shall not be posted on a family app like Yelp. Had I noticed that on my bill I would have adjusted my tip to the wait staff. Nay, I would have objected vocally. I will not be returning or recommending. Sorry hipsters. read more

A perfect 2 hour dining experience !! Drinks were delicious, nice and strong but well balanced and served flaming with style !! Had happy hour oysters that were "dealer's choice". A well chosen 8 oysters arrived fresh, briney, plump medium sized and half priced !! The ramen was the best I've had in town. Every ingredient in it was well prepared and worked in concert to be presented as a delicious and cohesive bowl of comfort !! The jammy marinated half an egg was properly prepared and so good that my wife ordered an egg just to have as a side. Every now and then you have to "Treat yo' self" and this is the place to do it !! Our server Crystal is smart, intuitive and knew her menu well ! A great night that will be difficult to match !! read more

The atmosphere and staff are extremely welcoming. Love their cute tiki decor. The drinks were not that strong. But, who isn't excited by a fire on your cocktails?! I've not tried any food. So, I will definitely be back soon and check them out. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Irvington! This was my first time visiting this establishment and I will be back. The restaurant was clean and the decor is eclectic and appealing. It's a tiki bar vibe with a modern twist. Our server Sam was so knowledgeable on the food and drinks. He recommended the ramen I had the White Truffle Shoyu and Gyoza. Worth the wait! Cocktails, food, atmosphere - everything is amazing. A group of 5 of us stopped in on a Saturday evening for my mom's birthday. We waited about an hour but we stood in the bar with drinks in hand, so not much to complain about. The Shoyu Shop ramen concept was open alongside traditional offerings from Heartbreaker. It was wonderful to have such a variety of options to choose from, especially with a larger group. Everything was wonderful. We will return! read more

We inhaled everything. The wings are braised for 3 hours and were super fresh and tender. The broth of my White Truffle Shoyu was so complex. They ladel several different broths into the bowl. the fresh made noodles had the perfect bounce and chew. The eggs were thoroughly marinated and jammy. The chashu was insanely tender and hand a little charred flavor. Just world class and so much love from Kyle the ramen chef! read more

My friend and I tried to go here a year ago but due to covid they had extremely limited seating. So here we are a year later! We visited at a peak time, Friday at 6:30 and were seated right away. It was busy but not overwhelming. I love a tiki bar so I had high hopes and the vibes did not disappoint. The decor was very fun and on theme, the drinks were strong but really good. I had the coconut crusted Tenderloin and it was delicious (and didn't taste anything like coconut, thank god). I will definitely be back! read more

Such a cute, cool vibe. Food was amazing - we ordered a variety of dishes to share and all were so good. Ramen delish - tofu bowl a great gluten free, veggie option. Service was wonderful. We did not feel rushed which is so welcome. Chocolate silk and key lime pie were a nice end to the meal. Oh, and as other reviewers have mentioned - the drinks were very well done and served in cute, kitschy glasses. Fun time had by all in Irvington! read more

The menu says it's a permanent vacation and it is! The vibe is so smooth and tropical. I asked the server for suggestions and he didn't fail me once. I ordered the chicken skewers to start and they were delicious. Followed with the break up burger and it was fabulous the fries were so crispy! Tried for the first time oysters and they were actually good. Then finished with a slice of key lime pie. So good. The two drinks I had were the port light and the birdbath. I should have taken pictures. They were so good and you could taste everything! I'll def be back! read more

Great place for tiki cocktails. My usual go-to is Painkiller and Junglebird. There's outside patio seating and kids are allowed. They also serve food such as Filipino style adobo wings which is a must have. read more

Sooo my husband and I are literally obsessed with this incredible Tikki bar in Indy. We have been going here regularly for over 2 years and believe Strange Bird has the best cocktails ever. If you want the feeling of a tropical oasis in your mouth... check this place out. The ramen is off the charts, and whenever someone I know comes to Indy from the West Coast, we always head to this place to look cool. We love Strange Bird forever and always, and their staff is the most bad ass incredible people out there. Period. read more

We moved to the Irvington neighborhood and *finally* made it to this great spot - driven by a never ending desire for Ramen. This place did not disappoint. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails to start. Our bartender was amazing - professional, knowledgeable, and efficient (a challenge at a tiki bar where most of the drinks are complicated). We ordered wings and the Tonkotsu which is a relatively basic ramen but dang - it was SO good. The broth was amazing and helped make the dish complex. The noodles were fresh, the meat was tender, and I have to say - my only regret was not asking for an extra egg because it was so tasty. I'm literally over the moon to have a spot five minutes from my house to grab some drinks and awesome ramen. read more

Just came here for a friends birthday last night! They currently have rented storage pods set up in the parking lot that have heaters and are decorated super cute for social distant dinners! This was my first time here and I was absolutely obsessed with everything I had! From the specialty cocktails to the appetizers and entrees! Everything was full of flavor and made me feel like I was on vacation! For drinks I had the Painkiller. Fruity and delicious. I love a cocktail with crushed ice and cute decorative toppings. For an appetizer I shared the loaded fries with a friend and we devoured them! It was reminiscent of food truck grub but more high end. So like a guilty pleasure plate! I had the breakup burger as my main. I got the spicy mustard on the side which was a good call because I'm relatively picky with condiments and it was quite hot! I added the pickled onions and I was totally stuffed by the end of the meal! The Hawaiian roll as a burger bun is genius. I will be back for sure. A real Irvington gem! read more

My all time favorite place for cocktails! I really enjoy this place! I went a few weeks ago to celebrate a victory. Decided to treat myself to a nice rum cocktail and was not disappointed. I also ordered a to-go sesame seed and oreo smoothie -- it was delicious! I never expected this combo to go so well! When I went it was still summer, where outdoor seating was available. There are a few food menu items, but this place is more of a place to have delicious drinks with friends and love ones. Before covid, it was my partner's and I, favorite date spot. Hopefully, we will return to this place more often. I miss it so much! The location is very nice considering it's located in one of my favorite neighborhoods, Irvington! There's free parking and easy access to the location and new restaurant - I believe owned by the same owners for this location. Whichever occasion, this is a great place to go! I went to the strange brew for my birthday this weekend and it was really good. Enjoyed the strange bird cocktail And the coconut pork tenderloin was delicious. we also shared the green beans which were great and everyone loved them at the table. had a great time can't wait to go back again. read more

We visited Strange Bird for the first time last night and had such a great time. Being pregnant during the COVID winter can be hard, but Strange Bird has these awesome heated pods where 2-4 people can dine super safely. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, opening up another pod for us so we wouldn't have to wait too long to be seated. Our server, Ian, was so nice and helpful, standing out in the frigid air while we were warm inside our pod. They made me a yummy mocktail, and I felt so treated by the overall experience. We recommend the coconut crusted tenderloin and the falafel! read more

Between the menu changes and the disappointing execution, it's no longer worth the drive or the price point for me. It's disappointing to see a restaurant I once loved move in this direction.

My husband wasn't expecting the somewhat unique preparation of the breakfast potatoes, but I found them to be satisfyingly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I also ordered the seasonal Strawberry Margarita with a sugar rim. It was light and refreshing. The atmosphere is very chic, stylish and feels very upscale. The dining room, and even the restrooms, boast this amazing natural light from all of the great, big windows! Our server, Roop, was kind and attentive and the hostess was warm and inviting. We will definitely return to try some of the other offerings in the future. Very cute brunch spot!

We both agreed the mac and cheese was the best part, really good. The rest of the food felt a bit bland. The tenderloin was filling, but the mayo and toppings didn't add much flavor. Even the waitress mentioned she prefers it with ketchup and cheese. We have been here before and remember it being much better, which made this visit a little disappointing. Service was solid. We had no wait at 7:30 on a Saturday, the food came out quickly, and our waitress was friendly and helpful. The ambiance is still a big plus here. The space looks great inside and out, and the location along the river is hard to beat. It was a little chilly when we went, but on a warm day sitting outside would be ideal, especially with live music.

This place is a vibe! It was an hour wait for a table, but there's a pub nearby. It's 100% worth the wait. The cocktail list is fun! The oysters were briny and the mignonette sorbet was bright and went well. The curry wings were flavorful and the ranch was herby and clean. The ramen was next level. Strange Bird is a favorite spot in Irvington. The oysters are great, especially with the rotating selection. My go-to is the birria ramen. It's packed with flavor. The cocktails are also excellent.
