    1/2 pour empty ocean
    Lauren B.

This is such a fun brewery North of Pittsburgh. The inside is spacious with great art scenes on the walls. There's a large gravel patio out back with picnic tables and umbrellas for shade. Lots of graffiti art on the walls out back that's super cool. They don't have beer flights, but they offer 1/2 pours. A lot of the beers are sours, which I really enjoy from time to time. I ordered 1/2 pours of tartburst watermelon cherry and empty ocean. The tartburst was a really nice, mellow sour with great flavor. Empty ocean is a tasty, hoppy IPA. We had a great time sitting out back and enjoying the weather with our beers.

We enjoyed our time there and the food was good but there was only 1 beer we liked (which was juicy/hazy) - the rest of the beer options were pretty much all sours. The layout and experience isn't ideal - it's super loud when you're inside, the section where you order is right where people are walking in so that gets clustered, the service at the bar was a little slow and they messed up our order twice because they couldn't hear us. We would go back & recommend to those who haven't been, but there's a lot of opportunity to improve here.

Let me introduce you to a little hidden gem in Gibsonia called "Strange Roots Experimental Ales". This ale house w/ its unique concepts has literally redefined what a brewery is in general, and doesn't hid the fact they are trying to be different then other breweries. The parking for the time being is limited so you have to show up early to be able to find a good place to fit in, but be warned they are only opened for 2 days out of the week since they have more than one location. Timing is everything at Strange Roots since they are only opened for 2 days out of the week as I had mentioned, but the drinks which are experimental inside are worth the wait as is the scenario. The schedule so far is (2 days as promised): Friday 5-10:00pm Saturday 2-10:00pm And it should also be noted they have no intention of ever making Pumpkin Beer/Pumpkin Spice Beer since they aim to be different, and they are very up front about it as well. At current they do not serve there own food, but instead have food trucks which park in the back. I believe they have plans to eventually serve there own food, and have in the wood works more days in mind to open for operation (all pending still of course). The food truck list is posted on there main Website for there Gibsonia location, and the food trucks are on a revolving schedule so you always have something new. Strange Roots open concept for the brewery in Gibsonia is very special as I had mentioned, but weather it will be fully open during the winter is another story in itself. As of now they have no plans to have any turns set in place, but that could of course change over time so you may want to check in on that when you are there. Was able to try there complete summer beer list on site, and by far there "Dandelion Beer" (also known as Bumble Lion) is the best, but sadly is no longer being made since it is officially out of season. (Not sure on the Fall menu yet) Paper Parachute was another great beer they make, but you will have to ask in person what is on tap or what they have in general to find out what is still in season and being produced. Beer List: - Action/Reaction (5.1% ABV) - Brewers Tap - Cantaloupe and mint grisette (5% ABV) - Desert Wolf (4.7% ABV) - Into the Grey (4.8% ABV) - Paper Parachute (5.1% ABV) - Puncheon Aged Goedenacht (9.5% ABV) - Rollin with the Puncheons (6.7% ABV) - Summer Ghost (5.1% ABV) - The Great Pretender (8.1% ABV) - The Koel - Aid Concord (8.4% ABV) - Ursula (7.6% ABV) - Agent Orange (9% ABV) - Bumble Lion (7.4% ABV) - Puncheon Aged Goedenacht (9.5% ABV) - Razmata (6.4% ABV) - Skin to Skin (5.1% ABV) - The Gran Paw (5.6% ABV) - Ursula (7.6% ABV) The only question I would ask when there again is where is my Bumble Lion beer, and what kind of xmas beer will you be making if any at all for this year.

Very nice place! I was pleasantly surprised how the inside looks. I tried the tart burst beer and it was great! They have a beautiful outside area with a food truck. Awesome atmosphere and will be going back.

New place in Gibsonia..enjoy a new brewery option! Many unique brew choices.. fun atmosphere!

I never could understand why people eat outside in downtown places where cars drive by them 5 feet away. The beers were OK, nothing really special but OK. They have a little bar outside so getting a refill was quick and easy. The don't serve any kind of hard spirits. My wife isn't a beer drinker so one of the bartenders at the inside bar mixed her up a drink with seltzer and something else(tea) which she found to be quite tasty, so i tipped her generously for having the ambition to please a customer. Where they fell down IMO was their pizza. It just wasn't very good. We had several versions of their Sicilian to choose from. The cheese was generous, but the crust was doughy and heavy, the sauce was flavorless, and the toppings were very stingy. A big piece of Sicilian pizza with 3 slices of pepperoni is not good. I checked out their menu and was stunned at the prices they are getting for those pizzas. WAY overpriced. Of course i didn't have to pay for them since it was a party, but knowing what their pizza is like i would never go back there and pay those prices. The wings were just OK, pretty mediocre. Parking is a joke. No where near enough spots for the size of the place. Overall it was just OK, i would not return. There are better places for the same or less money.

Their menu at this location is a bit limited, especially if you want something on draft. Their stout beers and IPAs are all on tap but lagers are only available in can and only 4 options. I ordered the Lil Cinder out of the can, which was a wonderfully cheap $3. It's one of my favorites at their other location and was happy it had a consistent smooth and refreshing taste out of the can too. I would have liked some more beer options, like sour or wheat beers, but understand it's only the taproom.

Yes, it's a strip mall, but don't let that fool you. Allusion is a beer oasis tucked between life's greatest challenges: renewing your license and resisting discount snacks. Inside, it's clean, cozy, and no frills, which is exactly what you want when the beer is doing all the talking. And let me tell you, the beer has a lot to say. We tried the 1810 Oktoberfest and As You Wish (which made me feel like I was being serenaded by Wesley from The Princess Bride), and both were excellent. We also grabbed a Buffalo Chicken Wrap and a Reuben, each paired with a cup of clam chowder that was creamy, comforting, and possibly made with magic (or butter, which is basically the same thing). The proprietor was friendly, knowledgeable, and doing everything short of brewing the beer mid-conversation. Honestly, if he'd started juggling pint glasses, I wouldn't have been surprised. Long story short: the beers are top-notch, the food hits the spot, and the vibe is low-key awesome. Allusion has earned a spot on our regular rotation, and possibly a spot in our hearts.

The inside of this brewery has a relaxed, open vibe with plenty of natural wood tables, metal chairs, a visible brewing area in the back, and colorful string lights hanging across the ceiling. There's a chalkboard mural on the wall and a Pride flag (since it was Pride month) adding to the welcoming atmosphere. There's also a well-stocked kids corner with books, puzzles, games, and art supplies, which is a great touch for families like ours. Outside of the beer, it looks like they often host different food vendors inside the kitchen space. As I often do when visiting a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight. It consisted of five beers: Joe Brown (coffee brown ale), Hear No Evil (honey ginger wheat), Honeycomb (oat honey ale), ChatBRU (west coast IPA), and Apple Pie Sour (sour ale). First up was the Joe Brown and it started with a solid coffee flavor and finished with rich toasted malts. Up second was the Hear No Evil which was A bold honey ginger wheat with ginger dominating from start to finish, leaving a lingering spice on the palate. Thurs was the Honeycomb which has Sweetness from the honey hit up front, followed by a more mellow oat finish. Fourth was the ChatBRU which was Smooth at first before diving into hoppy bitterness that lingered long after the sip. Last and certainly not least was the Apple Pie Sour. My first sip was mostly the cinnamon and sugar rim, which added a nice touch with a little salt on the finish. The second sip, without the rim, delivered a strong apple flavor that lingered nicely. I could absolutely see how they named it, as it genuinely tasted like apple pie. Out of the bunch, I ended up liking the Apple Pie Sour the most, closely followed by the Joe Brown. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed my beers, and my wife and I found it to be a super chill place.
