First of all, I've been coming to this place for many years. The bagels were good. The service was excellent. Since the place was sold, the place has gone downhill. I admit that the eggs they make are good, but the service is terrible. The eggs are good, but by the time it's given to the customer, it's ice cold. Have you ever heard of a Diner/bagel shop running out of coffee? They did, and more than once. How can you completely run out of coffee when you have two coffee stations on the Customer side of the counter, and a coffee maker behind the counter. It boggles my mind. And, when I bring it to their attention, it doesn't seem to matter to them. The owner sincerely tries to do right, but the two boys behind the counter are clueless. This bagel store has gone downhill since they got new owners. The bagels are overpriced, and chewy. The sausage and bacon is definitely not real bacon and sausage, I don't know what it is exactly. I have lived in the Riverhead area for about 5 years now and when I first arrived I was thrilled to have a Strathmore bagel shop nearby and this bagel cafe did not disappoint. Unfortunately, in the last 6 month or so I have been less than happy with the service and quality of this "Bagel Cafe". In just the last 3 times I have been here, nothing has been made either correctly or to the quality that I have come accustom to. Coffee: certainly not hot! 2 sugars (teaspoons) please, not 2 shovels! Bagel: very cold, like came from outside cold. Egg Sandwich: Lets get the order right. EHSPK ROLL means eggs, ham, salt, pepper, ketchup. Service: There are two older guys that do pretty well. The taller thin guy runs like the dickens. My hat's off to you guy. The ladies during the holidays were terrible. Leaving customers standing around while they are sitting in a customers booth. What do you have to do to get a bagel around here? Apparently, you have to be a clown with a shopping cart, a dog and a penis. I was ignored while three male customers who were not even in the store before me were helped while I was left to stand there- and wonder why I was invisible and could not get anyone to engage. Even the clown with the shopping cart and dog- who was asked to remove the shopping cart, so he left and came back in- got served before me. Its a hit or miss experience. Depending on who takes your order and who prepares it will dictate the price and quality of the sandwich ordered. I was a routine customer until it became a 50/50 chance on if my sandwich will come out satisfactory or not. When being charged almost 9 dollars for a roastbeef sandwich and getting next to no roast beef and the ends of the lettuce and then they forgot the cheese, its upsetting considering the price. I've gotten better premade sandwiches i stop and shop. I gave the place 3 stars because you can't do 2.5. Since the odds of my sandwich being satisfactory are 50/50, that's where my rating comes from. Please look at the pics of my meals i posted since words don't serve justice but a pic doesnt lie. I dislike the fact that i have to order my breakfast by my house and take it into work as it gets cold by then but at least they are consistent. read more

This place use to be a lot better, something has gone ary here, very slow service, (20 min) for an egg sandwich, and they were not super busy, they also got my order wrong, (asked for 2 fried eggs got one) the coffee was also not made right, even though I let the individual who was serving me how I wanted it. Girl on the phone didn't even know their menu and kept having to ask someone else if they had what I was ordering (bagel with flavored cream cheese and a sausage egg sandwich). She also didn't tell me when my order would be ready I had to ask her myself, she needs to be trained on proper phone etiquette. When I went to pick up my order the young boy was rude and when I asked to add an easy extra cream cheese bagel to my pickup order, he gave me a dirty look, walked to the other side and told an older lady l added to my order, and she gave me a dirty look as well. Then he was overall unfriendly to me the rest of the transaction. Keep in mind I was the only customer in line everyone else in the building was already helped and sitting down/paid up already so it's not like he was busy! Been there quite a few times, not impressed at all, today my wife orders an easy over fried egg on a roll, when she took the first bite realized egg was barely cooked and the yoke made a mess all over, unedible... Third time here; each time I have been promptly served and they even bring your egg sandwich out to your table for you. sandwich also comes with a drink and home fries for five and change. My go to spot when I'm in the area working. Bagels are great as well, can't seem to figure out the bad reviews. Good manners and a dollar in the tip jar goes a long way. read more

Grabbed some bagels and home fries from here the other day and was disappointed as I have been here many times before and the food has always been excellent. The bagels still have a wonderful flavor but the staff needs to put in a little more. The bagel was supposed to be toasted and it was seemingly warmed up but still had the consistency of one that hadn't been in the toaster. The bagel had WAY too much cream cheese on it, and it was all stuck together in one huge glob because the person must have just scooped it out and stuck it on there, thus making it rather messy and difficult to eat. This is my go-to place when I want an excellent Everything Bagel with Vegetable Cream Cheese. Their bagels, service and attitude are far superior to 'Signature' in town and their veggie cream cheese is perfect - the exact way it should be. I always get their Egg Everything since they're always amazing, large & have lots of seeds. Very fresh and doesn't even "need" toasting. Sometimes they sell out of most of their bagels so you may not get much selection if you go late. I've gotten good egg sandwiches here and also the worst one of my life one time that couldn't even be qualified as such, which I think was a one-off. Probably depends who was working there at the time. Most of the staff are nice and do a good job. Deducting 1 star due to the fact they STILL don't have paper menus or an online menu. I've been asking for years and it just doesn't seem like a priority to them. I don't drive & when I need my fiance to pick up an order, I have no place to look at their full menu when I want something different or extra (deli sandwiches, breakfasts, bulk orders etc) unless I go in person and look at the board. That's not convenient or possible for me but the place IS very cute to stop at or eat in. Wish they would step into the 21st century though and simply get their menu online and if not, have paper ones available to take home. Strathmore Bagels Cafe & Deli is probably my favorite place to go get breakfast. Not only are the people there super nice and friendly, but the style of the dining area is very warm and homey. Like a cozy Christmas morning with a cup-a-joe. I highly recommend going there if you want to make some new early morning friends and need a place to stop before work. Absolutely the WORST egg sandwich I've ever had! We waited almost 20-25 minutes for one sandwich and one creamcheese bagel (and the place was not even busy). My egg sandwich was cold and the cheese wasn't melted (of which they only gave me a sliver of cheese). They forgot to put ketchup on it after the girl taking my order had me repeat it three times and she wrote it down. I've worked in delis for 15 years and can tell you this place isn't worth your money. It used to be good when it first opened, but I guess it's gone way down hill since then!
