This was my second visit to this bagel shop, and unfortunately, it wasn't much better than the first. The staff behind the counter seemed more focused on chatting with each other than on helping customers. I ordered a simple breakfast sandwich: one fried egg, a sausage patty, Swiss cheese, salt and pepper on a seedless roll. What I received was a cold sandwich on a poppy seed roll that tasted a bit stale. The Swiss cheese wasn't even melted, and the sausage was just barely warm. For $12, you'd expect at least a fresh, hot sandwich. Disappointing overall. read more

Checked Yelp for a new spot and found Bean & Bagel Cafe... We are glad and headed right over...It was a very good move. This place is awesome. Besides the huge menu and well stocked deli counter, they had a wonderful assortment of bagels and toppings. The bagels were terriffic and my simple sandwich with cream cheese was great. My wife had an egg sandwich with bacon and veverything was cooked the way she likes it. The staff here is wonderful-friendly and they really stand out in the restaurant-deli world. But the worst part was I saw a mouse coming from behind the counter while I was ordering. At that point I was eager to leave hoping the bagel would still be good. I asked a local a place to stop for breakfast and this is what they immediately suggested. In the week I was here I stopped twice (it's hard not to). I'm really big on customer service and this place hit it out of the park. I had a classic long island bacon egg and cheese on a bagel and just wow look at that cheese! The next time I went I had to try one of the employees favorites which was a toasted french toast bagel with melted butter, syrup and powdered sugar. It was AMAZING. First thing I can say is their service is very good. Good coffee too!! I have to honest about the bagels though, they just aren't great. Stopped there today on my way to work and I was very disappointed. I don't think they boil their bagels first which is a must in NY for a good bagel. I'll continue to frequent my fav bagel stop a few miles back. Wanted to love it, but I didn't even want to finish the bagel. Stopped here for breakfast after (3) failed attempts in the more generic Riverhead spots. You order at the counter, pay and then sit down. Something new I personally never encountered. This spot has a simple menu, with breakfast basics, and a separate menu for açaí bowls. A family of 7 ordered a plate each, with a drink and 1 açaí bowl and I believe the total was $58. Unbeatable. We stopped for breakfast on our way to our Baiting Hollow condo for the last time. Yup, we sold it as part of our retirement plan. TMJ. OK the restaurant... well we've been here before and always liked it. It seems like it's always busy with eat in and take out. So you wait in line and order. My wife had the Veggie omelette, which came with home fries and coffee. I ordered the Kitchen Sink Omelette. I chose tatted tots over home fries. Mistake which I'll get to in a sec. Both orders also came with coffee, which is self service. We ate in, and seating is nice, both tables and booths. We chose a booth. TV on the wall too. So I'd like to give 5 stars, but the tatter tots were not good. Now I know it was my choice but these seemed like frozen, microwaved and even seemed a little freezer burned. Again all based on my taste. I did have a few home fries from my wife's meal and they were fine. We will be back, but I'll pass on the tatter tots and go with the home. read more

The bagels here were actually great. I've never had an everything bagel with that much "everything" on it (since it always falls off immediately. They put a generous but not obnoxious amount of cream cheese which is key, and the staff is very friendly and clearly in tune with the locals. The only reason I'm deducting a star is because there was no social distancing at all inside (at least amongst customers). Although everyone was in masks, the line inside didn't have more than 1 foot in between customers. I really feel this shop should implement something to control that. read more

A great local joint. Joanne -the owner, has done a great job. This place is not just for bagels. They have a great full menu including creative omelets - Note: available all day! My go to is the Cajun with andoulle sausage, jalapeños, tomatoes and pepper jack chesse. It comes with a bagel and choice of potatoes- I get tater tots. Cooked perfectly (see pic) and a small coffee. There coffee is great. Not acidic and full balance. I've been told it is there own custom roast. Bagels are very good (made on premises) and are not doughy. Crisp outside and soft inside - the proper way to make a bagel. My kid loves the tie dyed. I always get the everything bagel. Why is this place a delight. The staff. Great service and nice people. Because I didn't realize this business has early hours, I placed a last minute (3 hr heads up) order for 3 dozen bagels. I wish I had the name of the young lady that I spoke with, she very pleasant and understanding during our conversation and confirmed that they were able to fill my order. I get there and this cafe was packed so I waited in line. When it was my turn, I gave my name and was asked if I had waited in line...I said yes and apparently it was the same young lady that I spoke with earlier who told me not to wait in line when I arrived.
