Review is based on a Grubhub order. I got a small pizza and wings. I guess the positive would be the pizza. The crust was thin, almost a cracker, The amount of toppings was sufficient. One was linguisa which I don't find at many places so definitely a good thing. The pizza wasn't great but it was better than the national chains. Then there were the wings. They were just dry rubbed. No sauces to choose from. No ranch or blue cheese to dip them in. They were just wings. They arrived just tossed in a box. No foil to help keep warm. The menu did not offer drink purchases. Staying in a hotel I would have liked to order something to drink with them. In all my experience wasn't the best. I'm not from here and had not seen a Straw Hat since I was a kid. Not exactly what I remembered. read more

Straw Hat has a lunch special that I enjoy. Personal pan pizza which I believe you pick two toppings,all you eat salad and drink. I miss that they don't have the sunflower seeds or bacon bits for the salad bar anymore. The service is good but nothing spectacular. read more

Went here the other day the cashier who was working was very helpful, attentive and polite. He provided exceptional customer service. Pizza, salad bar and beer is always on point. Just be advised it maybe busy and they don't wear any type of hair/ beard net but do wear hats/ visors. They do wear gloves, spray and wipe down tables. Just make sure you double check the availability for parties because they did triple book 3 parties with the same time frame. ‍‍ So it should be only take out orders for others because the parties were not gonna leave. I grew up eating here at Straw hat pizza, and I will continue to do so as an adult! From the delicious pizza, fun games, and drinks it contains a great nostalgic ambiance. I came here during a rainy stay in Santa Maria. The rainy winter weather sidelined my plans, but I'm glad I finally checked this place out! I had heard about it from a friend and he swore by it! I called and placed the order for an extra-large meat lover's pizza and a small order of Buffalo wings. The pizza and wings were a bit pricey (just under 45 bucks for both), but honestly it was worth it. I took the pizza back to my hotel room and I even got plates, napkins, peppers and Parmesan cheese! I know this is standard, but a lot of pizza places are not offering these due to COVID-19 protocols, but I'm glad they did! Anyway, I got my pizza and it looked delicious! Full of meat and Cheese! I bit into it and I was VERY surprised at how good it was. The pizza was tasty, and the sauce was light and not too acidic. The pepperoni, sausage, and other meat toppings were fresh and delicious! The crust was also fantastic and had just the right consistency! I would gladly come back here if I'm in the area and I'm glad my neck of the woods (Bakersfield) is getting one soon! I'm excited! I called at 8:40 to try and place an order for pizza pick up, they told me sorry we're not taking any more orders because we close at 9 o'clock but if you get here before 9 o'clock will take your order. Are you serious? Blank you! I came and ordered my pizza because I was only five minutes away just to spite you mother Blankers you can't blinking tell people that you're not taking orders before your closed. I had not eaten at a Straw Hat in decades. Today my husband and I stopped in and got a couple personal pizzas for lunch. They did not disappoint. Hot, fresh, and not greasy, crispy delicious crust. Unbelievable, same great pizza I remember from childhood!! And on a side note - the ladies' bathroom smelled incredible. Employees are welcoming and proficient. Cannot wait to come back. read more

The pizza here is always good, so is the ranch which my son eats by the cup! But the sandwiches are subpar, I've had the Italian sub and the meatball top hat. The meatball top hat was OK, it could definitely use more meat but the Italian sub was nothing but a pile of grease my hands were completely full of oil, I couldn't eat the bottom portion of the bread because it was so greasy it was not some thing I would order again. read more

Been going here my whole life, from family parties to just grabbing a pie for dinner. The whole family loves this place. Always great customer service and great tasting pizza. We have eaten here since Straw Hat opened many years ago and have always enjoyed their food. The quality is consistently good. The pizzas have generous amounts of toppings and are never greasy. If you live on the south side of SM, this place is a bit of a drive, but it is worth it if you are tired of the same old pizza. The pizza and sides are competitively priced, and the quality is pretty high (fourth best in town), especially for the money. It is clean, there are games to play for kids if you have to wait or are eating in, and the staff is just plain fun to chat with. The only reason I don't give it one more star is because there are better options in town, and it does take a little too long for food to come out here. 1 Star for cleanliness 1 Star for quality 1 Star for price 1 Star for service read more

I have to give the SM Straw Hat a 5 star review. I went to the Straw Hat that used to be on Broadway by the Enos intersection so many times as a kid - after baseball games, hanging out with the family, and practically every other weekend. My dad used to own the Exxon gas station that was on the corner of Enos and Broadway as it was the family station for years until it closed down in the 90's, and we lived a couple blocks away so it was always convenient, and the pizza was always so good. Great crispy crust, a good amount of fresh toppings, and on top of that the owner was always cool. I went to school with his daughter Lisa since grade school as well, and they just always came off as a great family. All these years later and I have so many happy memories at Straw Hat. The N Broadway location is owned by the same family that owned the location I used to go to, and I need to stop in for pizza soon. My dad passed away tragically a couple of years ago, and their pizza brings back so many happy memories of having a great time with my dad. read more

Not sure what happened here but service used to be great. Tonight the cashier had a bad attitude we had a valid coupon she said she couldn't figure out how to use it and shrugged. Then, we asked someone to bus a table so we could sit and eat , she had an attitude. The guy that dropped off our pizzas looked like he hadn't smiled in years. To top it off THE COOKS WERE ON THEIR CELL PHONES WHILE MAKING PIZZAS NO GLOVES JUST PHONES IN ONE HAND AND PIZZA TOPPINGS IN THE OTHER!!! yuck read more

Haven't seen a Straw Hat in years! Came in to see if they were still as good as we remembered. They had a good deal- 3 topping large pizza for $12. We ordered salad bars for an additional $5.99 each and drank free water. The salad bar was just ok. We've been rather spoiled recently with topping such as cheese and hard boiled egg which where missing here. They did offer cherry jello and whipped cream which was ok. We won't get the salad bar again, but will try an appetizer next time. The pizza arrived in a reasonable amount of time. We dug in and where quite surprised at how good it was. Usually there would be a number of leftover (midnight snack age) but not this time. The mister is devouring the last slice as I write this! We liked the ample toppings, not too sweet or spicy pepperoni and tasty sauce. We live about an hour away, and this joint will be added to our go-to list! It was quite busy with 2 parties and a bunch of kids running around, but the noise wasn't too bad and the restaurant was pretty clean. read more

Thought it would be good since it was packed. I love pizza and enjoy even cheap pizza that taste average. Most pizzas are average by definition then there are the good and really good. But I still don't get how one can make bad pizza. The pizza SH gave me was bad. Sauce had wierd taste and the combo of cheeses just was terrible. Maybe I'm the exception since it was packed but there are so many of pizza places where I know I'll like rather than to risk here again because I still don't get how a pizza can be bad. Also I asked for the special of the day which was the works but asked that they only include the veggies and none of the meats but was told no, that if I wanted the special price the meat would be be included. So disappointed right now. I've been craving pizza all day and a light bulb went on......Straw Hat. I dreamt of that gooey cheesy goodness, looked them up on line, and was relieved to see they close at 9pm. I had 20 minutes to make that call and soon my dreams would become a reality! Until StrawHat "Manager" KATEY answered the phone at 8:41 and immediately said, "We're not taking any more phone orders for the night". Gasp, how can this be true, all I want is a medium pizza. When I asked to speak to her manager she stated "I am the manager". I repeated,"who is your manager" DUH.... Seriously, KATEY is ruining my night over 1 minute. Can you imagine trying to find a place to share your wife's childhood and adult adventures and experiences with those who knew her life better than I did before we met? What made it difficult? Every venue in town had either an academic graduation, a sports celebration, or just a large party of some sort, so booking a place was hard. When I called Giavanni's, our favorite restaurant for the past 9 years, I expected the same response as I got from the other restaurants. What I got was like a pioneer wagon train under attack, seeing the US Cavalry counterattacking and rescuing the people in the train. Can you imagine their response, despite prior reservations, to groups on the same time and date? If you guessed no can do, you were dead wrong! It was like in the song Big Bad John saving his coal miner buddies in the collapsed mine. They stepped up to the plate, swung the bat, and accomplished a home run! Yes, they made the deep, gut-wrenching sorrow burning in my heart lighten up with a simple 'yes, can do that,' which shone a light on what would never happen after the memorial service. Taking a step back, there is gold not literally to be found in their menu of Italian Cuisine, not just pizza. There is also a buffet that I recommend and encourage you to experience. I suggest you get there early, cause it is usually packed with local customers. Check out the days and hours for this heavenly food from their kitchen. So, if you really miss eating the highest-quality Italian Cuisine, warm, friendly people providing the almost-lost hometown customer service, look no further! Giavannis has it and much more.

The all-meat personal pizza seemed to come with quality ingredients, probably making it worth the $16. It was very filling after 3 pieces. During the time there, on a rainy night, plenty of people (locals?) came in to pick up pizzas to take home. And I also noticed a family of 5 come in and spend over $100 on food, which to me means this place is a good spot to drop that kind of money. Wishing them the best!
