The current menu selection has variety. It's not really seafood or Californian, so the selection is confusing. The execution of dishes just isn't there. These are few examples of my disappointments. The pulled chicken is screaming for some salt that the sauces can't make up for. The fries are frozen and not fresh. Shouldn't there be a traditional Cuban if there's a turkey one? I'm sorry to say, I gave this food truck a chance since my other option was popsicles and only ate a fourth of it. Needs a revamp to succeed. read more

I was pretty surprised by how much I liked my fish taco. The tropical slaw and papaya chili really made it stand out! My hubby ordered the pork sliders with pineapple relish. It wasn't as extraordinary for me. The best part was the Hawaiian bun and the pineapple relish which if I were him would have wanted more of that. He was hungry while we were at the Safety Harbor farmers market. Street Surfer was one of two trucks present. The other one we had tried before, and didn't like! We were happy with this option for a nice snack to tied us over for later. The prices weren't bad at all. I think this food truck design is so cool as well! If you want your wedding guests to say wow, cater from here! I remember when my friend told me how she found a food truck to cater her wedding. Both her and her fiancé waxed poetics about how amazing the dishes were going to be. (My friends give me an inordinate amount of details of parts of their lives pertaining to food, maybe it's the job?) After eating at their wedding, I can tell why they were so enamored with this food truck. The menu we got may be different than their normal one, but if you choose to work with them on catering, these dishes will definitely impress. 1. HUSHPUPPIES - I usually don't eat hushpuppies, because they are fried balls, but this time, I ate not one, but two! It didn't taste oily at all - no grease headache here! The breading was thick and substantial and tasted amazing. The inside was moist. I'd like to order a dozen of these and eat them in a corner where nobody can see me. 2. VEGGIE CUBAN - Most of the options for the night included pork (which I don't eat). It was a toss up between the Veggie Cuban and the Fried Chicken and Biscuit for me. Going for the slightly healthier option, I got the Veggie Cuban. In my life I have never met a Veggie Cuban that I've more than moderately enjoyed (yes, I have only eaten a couple of Veggie Cubans in my life, but roll with me here). I LOVED this one. Was it the crisp yet supple bread? Was it the generous heaping of cheese? I don't know, but I know it won my heart. It was also gigantic. It definitely fueled my mad awesome dancing skills the entire night (the dancing skills my husband is probably trying to block from his memory). 3. SIDES - Each main came with fries, potato salad and a berry salad. I really enjoyed the potato salad, I ended up eating my husbands. The fries were shoe string fries and they were really good as well. The berry salad was your standard salad, so nothing to go out of your way for, but not bad by any means. I tried everything on the menu and the only thing that was edible was the fries with the bacon and the queso. The grouper tacos were frozen Gordon fish fillets that definitely were not grouper. One bite and you can taste the horrible taste. The chicken and the mojo pork tacos we're horrible. The Ahi tuna bowl all you could eat was the tuna. The chicken sandwich was edible but it was like spongy looking chicken. So disappointed in the low quality of food that they serve. I wish I could have attached a picture of what I ordered but unfortunately I scarfed down my food entirely too quickly. I had their special today which was the Thai Chile BBQ Meatball Sliders w/ French fries (I upgraded my fries to loaded which comes w/ queso blanco, ranch and bacon....100% worth it) & it was absolutely delicious. I do wish they would have some condiments set aside like maybe parm cheese, hot sauce etc so we can add if needed (if they had it maybe I was too excited when I walked away to see it) but other than that my food was great. I tried out this food truck during the Biertoberfest at Keel and Curley, and I am glad I did! We go the pork nachos and their loaded fries. The nachos cost about $8, but definitely worth it. The nachos were stacked, piled high and plenty of pork. As we were walking around we had quite a few people stop us and asked "Where'd you get that!??" The nachos were crunchy and tasty. The loaded fries were crisp, good amount of toppings, fresh out the fryer. Staff is friendly, easy to talk to. Food came out quickly. Waited literally 45 minutes. It was busy, it was a fall festival but I watched other lines and they went 5 times faster still being just as busy. One person cooking. Ordered a chicken bowl and literally took 2 bites and threw it away. It was so completely flavorless and the bottom of the plate was all water. (Maybe from the chicken being cooked in water or something and not being drained good?) I dunno but it was gross. Bottle of water was hot. Not warm, hot from sitting in the sun and not being in the cooler. Threw my money in the trash. read more

We got the pork nachos and their loaded fries. Usually, I'm pretty picky about my fries but their loaded fries were still crispy even with all the toppings on them. I don't know what they use for their cheese sauce but it was yummy. They definitely weren't skimping on the toppings for either the fries or nachos either! When I saw the prices for the food, $8 for the nachos and $5 for the fries, I wasn't really expecting much. After all, most food truck prices tend to be on the higher side. However, when they handed me my order, I was not expecting the pretty much mountain of nachos they gave us! So worth the price! From looking at the menu I was very excited to try this food truck. I ordered the Hawaiian. From the Menu: "The Hawaiian w/mango chile, pineapple relish, chicken or pork, on a coca bun" The relish was plain raw cabbage topped with chunks of pineapple drenched in the chile sauce. It was tasty but the raw cabbage was not very pleasant. I got mine with pork and the meat had little to no flavor. The sweet pineapple and sauce overtakes the whole sandwich. The bland meat was disappointing. The other not-so-pleasant thing is that the bottom of my bun was so soggy that I couldn't even pick up the sandwich. I had to eat it with a fork. Maybe if they toasted the bun it wouldn't be quite so bad? Watermelon Lemonade was rockin though! Overall not terrible but I probably wont eat here again. :( read more

I was lucky enough to get to try this food truck at an event at work for Cinco de Mayo. I ordered the fish tacos (they were out of fish) which turned into pork tacos. Seriously one of the best things I've ever put into my mouth. I wish I had taken a picture of it because it was absolutely beautiful! There were so many bright colors in the taco. Cuban was dry, sparse on meat a flavor. Don't waste your money or calories on it. Had nothing else so can't comment on rest of the food.

My family of 4 (2 kids, 2 adults) ordered the plantains, pork tacos, Cuban brat, and empanadas at the Hyde Park Fall Festival. We waited for awhile, which is understandable for a big event. The staff is super, super nice. But, OMG this is the worse food I've had in Tampa. Our food was DROWNING in sauces and we couldn't eat it. I'm talking a bowl of sauce with 10% food. The empanada has less than a teaspoon of meat- for real, like 3 tiny, diced pieces. The Cuban and pork tacos were inedible. They were so greasy and drowning in sauce. Even my children, who sometimes eat dirt and non-edible things like marker caps and such, would not eat a second bite. The plantains were cold and SURPRISE drowning in more sauces. How the food is described on their menu and their example presentations do not correctly describe the food that you receive. I really wanted to like this food truck but ugh! read more

We tried the Street Surfer food truck this past weekend at the Sea Blues Festival in Clearwater. I ordered the traditional Cuban and was extremely surprised - in a really good way. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Cuban sandwiches and their version scored in the top tier. And the size!! - I've paid more for half the portion. My husband ordered the seafood fritters (? they had another name but drawing a blank) and was equally impressed with the quality and portion size. Both of us were totally bummed when they were not there on Sunday - it was nice to have an option other than the usual fair/festival standards. Caught up with this truck today at Pierce St. Market with my mom. Out of all the places there we decided to try the street surfer truck. I ordered the bowl with chicken and my mom ordered the pork bowl. The food came out very quickly and we were excited to try it. This was the most bland, tasteless meal I have ever eaten in my life. Everything tasted like it was previously frozen then thrown in water to thaw and served in the bowl. We took about two bites then bagged our food up and ate somewhere else. read more
