Yes, I asked twice for the Korean Bolgogi Beef bowl WITHOUT rice. And yes, I found when I was back upstairs that what I was actually given was a pile of rice, disguised under a thin layer of beef. Thank God it wasn't a matter of food allergies. Still, it was alright. Nothing I would spend $20.00 on a second time - but, alright.

This truck was at Tampa General and I hadn't had lunch so I preordered online. The staff was not at all welcoming and when I walked up and mentioned that I placed my order online, I received a head nod pointing me in the direction of the truck door to receive my order. The Boom box comes with your choice of protein over rice and a vegetable side. I picked Korean Bulgogi beef over "fried rice" and Asian slaw. The meat was so entirely salty that I couldn't even eat it. The "fried rice" was not actually fried and looked/tasted like white rice with soy sauce mixed in. The Asian slaw was chunks of hard cabbage with 2 tiny shreds of carrot mixed in vinegar. The only part of the meal that o enjoyed was the roll which I'm sure was frozen and then fried. This food is not authentically made and is a prime example of when people take food that is culturally unique, and attempt to replicate it for profit. From this experience alone I would pass on any food from this truck.

Menus of things they don't have

I stood in a line for 20 minuets to find out they're out of beef. That's fine, but if you see a whole line of people waiting at least have the courtesy of making the announcement that you're out of your best selling item. It's hot AF in Florida and I just waited a lot of time in the heat.

I have heard and seen great things from this food truck, but my first visit did not agree. I ordered the egg man. Of course, the pic of it on the truck looks great. Hooray for photo shop, but it looked like a mound of slop and was no big deal whatsoever. It's just a mound of fries and rice, beef and a dry not sunny side egg not egg yolk nicely running out of it, and just boring and no flavor. They say the egg is the feature, but they throw that overdone egg on top and called it a day! Not impressed. That takes two seconds to put together and cook nicely, but hey two seconds was too long I guess!

Beef Bulgogi Boom Box with a fried egg and bacon - 01.20.2018

I Wanna Wok is one of my favorite food trucks. Anytime I see their truck, I stop whatever I am doing and practically run to order food. I am such a creature of habit, I have only ordered the Beef Bulgogi Boom Box. Yesterday, in honor of the St. Pete Bacon & Beer Fest, IWW offered the option of adding bacon to any order. Which of course, I did. Bacon just made this amazing tasting meal, taste even better. The combination of bacon, egg, and Bulgogi Beef was so good, it almost made me cry. Run, don't walk when you see this food truck. You're welcome.

I hate to be the one to leave a negative review, especially after looking forward to trying this place for about 2 years. After reading the reviews and hearing about it from friends, I finally encountered the I Wanna Wok truck at the Summerfield Golf Course food truck rally on 2/2/2018. Let me be the first to say, I really, really wanted to leave a good review about my experience. But, after my experience, I just can't bring myself to do it. I'd like to start with what went well because I hate being so negative for a food truck that I believe is putting forth a good effort. To be fair, I'm a self-proclaimed foodie that studies culinary art on my free time. My wife is a chef, by trade, and we're fairly adventurous eaters. I think these factors contribute to my palette being hard to please. What went well: The truck itself is absolutely gorgeous. Everything from the paint job to the rotating laser light on the front will entice anyone to walk up. By far one of the best menu presentations I've seen on a food truck. Pictures are colorful and grab your eye while still showing the detail that goes into the dishes. Names of the dishes are descriptive so there is no surprises as to what you are getting. So what happened? I ordered the Boom Box with Bang Bang Shrimp, fried egg, and with a side of kimchi, fried rice, and veggie spring roll. The presentation looks beautiful, along with the truck. However, I found the food to be uninspired and not even fresh made. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I've eaten at plenty of food trucks that utilize fresh ingredients so I know it's possible. The fried rice isn't even fried. It appeared to be steamed in a rice cooker with seasoning to give it a fried rice effect. The kimchi tasted like the kind you get in the refrigerated produce section of your local grocery store along with the spring roll. I can understand using frozen spring rolls for convenience sake but the kimchi really should be house made. It's extremely easy to do and would give that wow factor I was so desperately seeking. The shrimp was the pre-battered frozen kind and was decent. It sort of reminded me the butterfly shrimp you would see at Captain D's or a Chinese buffet. My biggest issue with the shrimp was the sauce. It was practically just mayo with enough Sriracha sauce for color. No real flavor there whatsoever. I did like the green onion and sesame seed topping. I thought those flavors were the perfect complement for the dish. Final thoughts: While the food looks amazing, the flavors and quality just didn't live up to the hype. I would try this truck again and order something different. Perhaps I'll update my review if that happens.

My favorite food truck around Tampa bay. They have many items, tacos, kamikaze fries, rice box with your choice of protein, burritos, dim sum, egg rolls, and much more. I always end up getting a boom box, rice chicken Asian slaw and and egg roll. If you notice , the I wanna wok food truck has the longest line at food truck events , that lets you know they are the bomb.

I Wanna Wok Food truck Full Menu in all its glory! :)

Pros: I Wanna Wok food truck visited our offices today. I really like I Wanna Wok because they feature a large array of meats! I had the Boom Box (Rice Bowl) with half Bang Bang Shrimp, half Sweet Chili Shrimp, white rice, scallions, kimchi, and a spring roll. Instead of kimchi, you can also substitute a side of cucumber salad or Asian slaw. I added some sriracha, sweet chili sauce, and soy sauce to the rice and had a feast! It was very flavorful, spicy, and delicious! The last time they visited I had the Metallica Bao Buns which featured Korean Bulgogi Beef with Kimchi and scallions on 3 Bao Buns and they were really good. The next time they visit I want to try their GangName Style Cheese-steak which features Korean Bulgogi Beef, grilled onions, melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, yum yum sauce, sweet chili sauce, on a grilled hoagie bun. Meats: Korean Bulgogi Beef, BBQ Peking Pork, Hawaiin Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken, Orange Chicken, Bang Bang Shrimp, and Sweet Chilli Shrimp. Carb Pairings: You can get your meats in a Boa Bun, Wrap called Wrappers Delight, Taco called Woko Taco, or a rice bowl called a Boom Box. Cons: The shrimp and egg rolls are fried so eating at I Wanna Wok may not be the healthiest option in the book to do on the regular but it is pretty tasty. For a smaller amount of breading than the Bao Buns, I prefer going with a wrap, taco, or rice bowl but it was a nice change from the norm.

Finally got to try this truck when they came to Grand Central on Kennedy. Love the Kamikaze Fries. Definitely big enough for 2+ people. On top of the tasty food, the guys working on the truck were REALLY nice and they have good music!

Went to the food truck rally at downtown for lunch. Good setup to order and pay outside the truck, they make it, and then call your name to pick it up, all while listening to tunes. Ordered 3 mixed tacos but they very average, nothing special about them. None of them tasted very different front the other honestly and they were completely different flavors. Would try a different taco place before ordering here again.

It's not often that every dish exceeds expectations, but that was definitely the case here. We left already talking about what we want to order on our next visit. What I ordered: - Blackbrick Tower: Six steamed siu mai -- truffle sticky rice, shrimp & bamboo, chicken & chive - "Papa's" Egg Roll: Shrimp, Duroc pork, green beans -- grandmother's 100-year recipe - Dan Dan Noodles: Sichuan pork, local bucatini, Beijing sesame & peanut - Lobster Fried Rice: 10oz Maine lobster tail, scallion, egg thread - Brussels Sprout: Soy-braised, sesame - Ma La Fried Chicken Crispy, numbing chili -- the one guests remember

I went on a Wednesday night with a big group. Brittany was taking care of us. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and the background of the history of how the restaurant came to be. The place had a dark moody vibe with art works from Basquiat. The menu was stacked with a great variety of good items. We started with the dumplings, (not pictured), and all the food we had looked amazing! Now, to the how the food actually tasted. I would say that it exceeded my expectations. I've had food from an upscale modern Asian type restaurant, and most of them left me disappointed, but this one wasn't bad. I don't even like Brussels stouts, yet it was really good, even tried the Gator! I was told that the eggroll was good, I found it to be okay. But everything else was great. At the end of our meal, Richard Hales himself came up to our table and asked us how it was. Highlight of the night. Presentation, good food, great service, and good company. I would say this was a very pleasant experience and would definitely visit again.

The staff was attentive without hovering, the pacing was excellent, and the entire experience felt polished and intentional. I ordered the Bibimbap with bulgogi steak, tofu, fried egg, kimchi, vegetables, gochujang, and crispy rice, along with two spring rolls. What stood out most was the balance. The dish delivered heat, sweetness, savory depth, texture, and freshness without relying on heavy sauces or excessive portions. Every ingredient maintained its own identity while contributing to the overall flavor of the dish. Too many restaurants create flavor by drowning food in sauce. Hawkers does it through seasoning, spices, and technique. There was no puddle of sauce at the bottom of the bowl, no overly sweet glaze, and no greasy heaviness. The rice absorbed flavor without becoming soggy, and the kimchi, vegetables, egg, tofu, and bulgogi worked together beautifully. The spring rolls were equally impressive. Light, crisp, delicate, and perfectly executed, with a thin wrapper and just the right amount of crunch. What impressed me most was that I left satisfied, not stuffed. The portions were thoughtful, the ingredients tasted fresh, and the flavors were layered rather than overwhelming. Since moving to Florida, this ranks as one of the best restaurant meals I have had. Highly recommended.
