Small group weight training is top notch, with tailored workouts for to meet your physical (and arguably mental) health needs. Trainers are unbelievably competent and supportive! I have significant health concerns, and I truly believe that this gym is part of the reason I stay well. Also, they have really cultivated community, so I have become friendly with so many of the people who train alongside with me. This gym is a gift to yourself. I hope you check it out soon!

I had done exercise programs on and off (mostly off) over the years. I knew how important exercise was but I hated it. It was either boring, or it wasn't convenient, or it was hard to stay motivated. Today, I have never felt stronger or more confident. In fact, to my huge surprise, when my job was causing serious stress, all I could think was, "I NEED a workout today." I have never said that in my life! The coaches at UA are top-notch professionals. They take their work seriously, celebrate with you, and are encouraging. I look forward to seeing the coaches -- they are energetic, friendly, supportive, and have taught me a tremendous amount. This contributes greatly to me staying motivated to keep coming back and improving. Getting a new program each month also helps stave off the typical boredom of a "regular" gym. Something else that was unexpected but great nonetheless -- there is a wide variety among UA's members (age, gender, physical shape, natural ability, etc.). I am inspired by and feel comfortable around my fellow UA-ers b/c they each face their own challenges. I highly recommend you give UA a shot. (The also have a location in Sterling, VA.)

I started in April of 2023 and as of today Jan 19th 2024 I am down 50lbs and have lost 3 dress sizes! The instructors are there because they want to be. They are encouraging, fun, upbeat and have become like family. They push you when you need it and always have an encouraging word when you are struggling to get that last rep in before the buzzer. The other client's are also outstanding and miss you when you are not around. If you are looking for a gym that caters to all ages, sizes and fitness levels then this is the place. Regardless if you are super fit or just getting started you will find that Empower Fitness is your new favorite spot!

I had been going to the drop-in…read moreclasses at Oak Marr Rec Center for about a year (4-5x/week), when my favorite classes started to get so crowded that I had to show up 15-20 minutes early just to get in (and still I'd have to fight for space on the floor) and eventually I pulled something in my back and had to stop exercising for several months. Empower Fitness has everything I wasn't getting at Oak Marr: small, uncrowded classes (that you reserve a spot for); classes on holidays (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day...); workout routines that change regularly and often; and, most importantly, attentive instructors. They teach the proper form for each exercise and keep an eye on you during class, giving suggestions and encouragement. All fitness levels are welcome, and the instructors provide modifications to accommodate ability and injuries. I've been going 12x/month for a year (4-5x/week during the summer) and I am still injury-free and looking forward to every class.

He constantly challenges me with new programs and keeps me working harder every week. He's professional and beyond knowledgeable about everything from physical health, nutrition and recovery. I…read morestumbled upon Brian's business (Bowtai Fitness) on Reddit and reached out via email to ask some questions about his process. He got back to me quickly and answered my bajillion questions very thoroughly. He also suggested setting up a time to meet so I could tell him a bit more about my fitness goals and check out the gym. Through our chat, it became clear that Brian takes a scientific approach to PT, is very safety conscious/is a stickler for form, and is very results-oriented. We also clicked on a personal-level, which is always nice to have with a trainer! I've been training with him for a few months and am very happy. I'll go into a bit more detail below. Approach: Brian created a custom program for me based on my fitness goals. It's all tracked and shared with me via Google docs. Every few weeks he switches up the program. I told Brian I also want to train a few days a week at home and he was extremely accommodating. He asked me to take a picture of my gym and equipment and he created workouts that worked for me and my situation. This is above and beyond in my opinion! I also appreciate that he takes a holistic approach by incorporating nutrition into the program. He gives me my macros and updates them every so often depending on my progress.   Facilities: I really like Brian's gym! It's called District Barbell and it's located very close to the Mosaic District. It's very private. Usually there are only a couple of other people in there during my sessions. He has all the equipment I could ever want - and more. It's very clean and parking is easy. Flexibility and Availability: Brian is really flexible. It's truly a personal training program and he is happy to adjust the schedule, training, nutrition, etc. to you and your unique needs. He's also really accessible. He's very open to communicating via text if you have questions about nutrition or training! Obviously things are different now in the times of COVID19. However, Brian's flexibility is even more apparent during these times. He definitely has options to help you on your fitness journey remotely! He offers virtual PT sessions as well as killer group training sessions via Zoom a few times a week. He is also still helping me write custom programs for my home gym and checking in every now and then to see how I'm doing. I highly recommend training with Brian!

I completed the 7 day free trial period with my friend and that's the basis for this review. Pros: -Great for people who enjoy working out in groups -Efficient 45 min workout -You sign up for classes via their dedicated app, then it can be added to the calendar in your phone -The raised padded floor is great for those of us with knee problems, it makes for a soft landing - they have child care -you can complete workouts from home video chat -they have women's only classes -unisex bathrooms with baby changing tables -they offer one-on-one support with nutrition (not sure how often) Cons: -Not so great for people who need more instruction because the class moves quickly -About 5-7 mins of the 45 mins is dedicated to warm-up and instructions, which makes for a short workout for some - The app doesn't tell you what the focus of the workout is going to be, so if you work out on your own you risk working on the same muscle group you already focused on by yourself -only class based workouts, no cardio machines, no time to stretch or do anything on your own -not open on Sundays -No locker room/showers Overall: This would make for a great secondary gym for someone who can't focus/doesn't have the motivation to complete HIIT workouts on their own (seeing as how there are plenty of free options online). It's a no frills, no thrills type of gym, get in, do your workout, and leave. They don't even have towels you can use. It's all about community here, so if that's what you're looking for, then this would be good for you. You must wear a face mask everywhere except while on the padded floor.

I initially got hooked as I was unfocused at the gym. The daily variety with the protocol sets up a whole week of great workouts. Complimentary child-watch for those with kiddos - allowing you can have 45 mins of time for you for your workout! Always tons of high fives and encouragement from everyone during the workout and overall such a great vibe!
