Shout out to Raj for being so helpful and accommodating-- I did the cold plunge super early in the morning and felt so refreshed before work! Parking: there's parking you can park outside of the garage when you turn in that's free and you don't need a permit Secure building: A code is needed in order to get into the building to go up into the elevator to get to the class/gym which is good since random strangers would need the code Very aesthetic place with lightings! They also have a pool outside which was very relaxing and perfect after a workout session if you want to cool down.

The parking here can be difficult during the day, and I used to have to park pretty far from the studio, but all the retail parking is vacant at 6am! The SAs here are hit or miss, but generally helpful and pleasant. I like the layout because each of the stations, treads, rowers, and weights, are in a row so there are no weird angles or bad spots for viewing the VVA monitors or the metrics screens or for the coach to see you. And they have a super well-organized and labeled auxiliary weight rack in the middle of the rower row. I also like the extra padded floor they have in the weight floor row, though watch your step because it's elevated about an inch and half from the rest of the floor. I've never encountered a full class here before, but I also tend to go during off peak hours. Coaching is enthusiastic and friendly as well, especially Coach Kelsey, though I think she is full time at Sunnyvale now.

He has a great understanding of muscle spasms and how to release them, and he provides blessed relief! He also works on various muscles to improve my range of motion. I particularly appreciate that I am always in control. Esteban ensures the pressure he applies is at a level I'm comfortable with. We communicate throughout the session so I walk out having received exactly what I needed. I've also seen Melfred, who is equally excellent. This gym's owner has an inability to let go of 110% complete control of his gym and the movements…read morehis members' make with their bodies while coaching. Specifically, do not ever take a class with the owner (Peter) if you have an injury and require a substitution for a specific movement. For example, I have a severe knee injury. The only thing that relieves my knee pain is the circular motion of riding a bike combined with the analgesic relief that cardio from bike riding has been proven to provide. Meanwhile, one morning, Peter refused to let me ride the gym's erg bike as a substitute for one of the standard movements, which happened to be Jumping rope. After he continued to refuse to let me substitute bike riding for jumping rope, I said out loud to him, "Peter. This is my body. My choice." And yet he still refused to let me ride the erg bike. So I walked out. And I asked via email for my membership to end Sept 18. Then I had a discussion with other coaches who would let me use the bike whenever I felt like it. They convinced me to stay on as a member. But Peter refused to let me keep my membership unless I agreed to do whatever substitutions Peter deemed appropriate. Peter also gave a long lecture to his staff that week, insisting no coach should let me use the erg bike when I ask for it. And then on the morning of August 4, I realized Peter had canceled my membership early because the app was trying to charge me a "drop in" price just to sign up for that morning's classes. When I asked him to reinstate my membership, even if it was just until the date I had originally requested of Sept 18, he refused. He said I could only stay a member if I had a meeting with him and agreed to comply with whatever terms and conditions HE so chooses. He hides behind the guise of his "specific training program backed by science". But that's such a joke. And he knows he's a joke. He knows most of the members hate him. It's obvious by the low attendance for classes that he coaches. And he's taking out his issues on me simply because he can. It's so infuriating because it's so obvious to me he's suffering from severe control issues brought on by his behavioral and severe personality disorders. If he really wanted to give me a proper substitute and cared about my longevity he'd perhaps suggest I throw a d-ball up against the wall and catch it. Or something to that effect. But instead he gives me BS moves like calf raises, while refusing to let me ride the erg bike. Meanwhile the other trainers are courteous and respectful and gracious and allow me to make whatever substitutions I want. The only problem is a lot of the coaches quit working here because Peter's behavior drives them away. So there's always someone "in training". He also wastes members' time and staff's time with long lectures before or after classes. And he refuses to change his ways--often arguing with members. He's disrespectful when he insists that a coach knows a members' needs better than the members does. I've noticed he also tries to train his younger staff with this same methodology: "a coach knows better about a member's body than the members". For me, that breaks a moral boundary. There's another incident where a member did not want to box because of her elbow injury. But he insisted she box. Of course, she then reinjured her elbow. And that to me is sickening. The workouts themselves can be somewhat good. But nothing makes up for Peter's terrible management style and the nonsense policies he tries to enforce. In summary, this gym is a disaster. And the owner is a disgrace to this franchise. Edit in response to Peter's comment on my review: Peter's talking about himself in the third person because he was the trainer that day. Also, Peter, that's obviously just cut-and-paste lip service. You're obviously grasping at straws to protect your bottom line. You absolutely do NOT care about your members whatsoever. And you do NOT wish me well in my health journey. You make it obvious you only care about one things: having ultimate control of your franchise and its members. And if you can't control them, then you cancel their membership. If you actually cared, you would not have cancelled my membership before I asked for it to end. The fact that you effectively kicked me out of your club before I wanted to quit simply because I wanted to use the erg bike as a substitute for whatever movement I so chose just goes to show how severely warped your behavioral and personality issues really are.

Bay Club thinks of itself like some kind of big-shot, but many of its locations are managed worse than a low-scale budget gym. Members are treated like cash cows, while serious complaints (including sexual harassment) are brushed aside and invalidated. I was a member and visited many of its South Bay and Bay Area locations, including Santa Clara, Los Gatos, Redwood Shores, San Francisco, Gateway, Fremont, Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, and Boulder Ridge Golf Club. Out of all of them, Fremont was the only location I found remotely acceptable. The others had major issues. Paying members: Members are treated like cash cows. Bay Club puts a price on everything, constantly raises membership rates, and still fails to provide the quality of service, competent management, or basic respect those prices should buy. Respectful members: To the respectful and considerate members: hats off to you. Thank you for contributing to positive experiences. Sexual harassment: Unfortunately, these respectful members are often overshadowed by several creepy individuals whose behavior management is unwilling to address. As a result, the overall environment, especially at Santa Clara, SF, and Redwood Shores, could feel like a petri dish for creeps because their behavior remains unaddressed. Management absolutely does not take action when concerns about sexual harassment are raised; they are only concerned assessing whether the situation could result in a lawsuit. Management: Management routinely invalidates members' concerns instead of addressing them seriously. Santa Clara's manager, Laurie Miner, also appeared never to be present on site. I was told that she barely visited the gym and primarily worked from home. Just like many wrote here on Yelp, her responses have been quite shady for years. Employees: Many employees are inexperienced and unable to answer very simple questions about their own gym. It feels as though Bay Club intentionally hires interns to cut costs. Pickleball: Some of the serious players act very arrogantly. A shared club facility should not be treated like a private court reserved for a self-appointed elite group. Locker-room: Too many members behave as though they are in a private bathhouse, with little regard for normal boundaries and shared-space etiquette. Bay Club may look polished from the outside, but behind the branding is a very poor management. For the amount of money they charge, the experience was absolutely not worth it.
