I'm honestly pretty upset with how Lifetime as a brand has changed. Customer service? Gone. The feeling of inclusivity? Gone. It's like they no longer care about their members. I get that they're saving some money by not being open 24/7, but it's still a huge letdown. We've tried the Canton location multiple times, but there's always something broken or out of order. So we went to the Troy location, only to find that our family membership doesn't work here--only Novi and Canton. After upgrading, my son, who loves basketball, was disappointed to see that half the courts are now taken over by pickleball. Now they're even getting rid of basketball courts altogether. When I asked, I was told that "basketball doesn't make us money." Isn't that why we're paying $275 a month for a family membership? Today, after upgrading, we got kicked off the basketball court within an hour because of some family event. Apparently, they have arts and crafts tables in the gym on Saturdays. We were told we could come back after 8pm, but why did we drive 55 minutes from Ann Arbor for that? There's other space they could've used, but I'm guessing that's being rented out for more money, while the members are pushed aside for things like pickleball. Honestly, the Las Vegas locations are great, but the Michigan ones are a mess. I've been harassed since day one at Canton. It's frustrating because, just like 24-Hour Fitness, Lifetime is drifting away from what made it great--caring about the members. Eventually, I think they'll learn, especially when they start closing down locations, just like 24-Hour did. I just hope they realize that the people--the members--are what keeps their revenue flowing. Plus spend some money on this club first, everything is old and falling apart..... Maybe one day, pickleball will fade out like racquetball did. But until then, here's an idea: Troy could convert those racquetball courts into basketball courts. That would actually make sense!

First they took one court away, and now they're taking BOTH courts starting April 19. Basketball has always been one of the main reasons people come here, and now it feels like that doesn't matter at all. Instead, pickleball is taking over the entire space with prime-time hours--6-9:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 6-9 PM on other days--basically making it impossible for anyone to play basketball after work. On top of that, the courts were never even taken care of properly. The basketball floors are rarely cleaned, and the wood clearly needs to be polished. For a gym charging around $150 a month, you would expect much better maintenance, but it feels like they never cared about the basketball side at all. Another issue is the hours. The basketball courts close at 11 PM Monday through Thursday, and the entire club closes at 11 PM on Fridays--which is crazy considering most locations stay open later. This is the only club I know closing that early on a Friday. After over 20 years of being a loyal member, it feels like long-time members are being pushed aside. The gym might look nice, but taking away something this important--and not even maintaining it properly while it was there--completely ruins the experience.

The lockers are plenty big and the bathroom is spacious for changing if you need to. What I really appreciated was the helpfulness of the employees making sure I was secure on a bike, finding my rhythm and the low lighting of the room. Nobody needs to see me working out. This is solved from their heart rate approach. You have two choices to begin from the rower or the treadmill. Talk to a coach about your goals and they will guide you accordingly. If you are super competitive this might be the place for you. You can earn splat points, try to stay in the red the longest of the group or compete with yourself in the app. I think this is an amazing place for all levels of fitness. They have really innovative ways to keep members engaged throughout with gifts, pajama days, workout hell week. The coach's are helpful. If they see you doing something incorrect they will assist. The music playlist is pretty good! It's loud so you will have to put your listening skills to use, if you can't sweat, run, row and listen. This might not be a place for you. Another cool feature they have a really awesome functional app. You can purchase merch, see your progress & schedule your next class! Even if someone walks behind me you can't even see their head. I'm on the rower and you can on see me and the wall. I have over 50k of followers and I usually record my workouts at gyms since I go so many places. Definitely won be posting this one. So if you want to record this isn't the place Troy specifically! Which again is totally understandable, people usually don't bring their phone in the workout area,. They pride themselves on 60-90 minutes without your device, which I'm sure everyone could utilize. Their pool and racquetball courts are a big draw for many looking for a fully equipped gym. They've made some updates the past few years including an area that goes beyond your typical equipment - along with the class offerings that go with it. But their women's bathroom is in desperate need of an overhaul. The doors don't close all the way (they are hanging poorly and the lock doesn't fully reach across), the stalls are so dated, it isn't always clean - it feels very institutional. They need to reinvest in their equipment - having already started by updating their free weights. I'd like to see better maintenance on their aerobic machines upstairs. No pics allowed - I'm a strict rule follower when it comes to that one.

My son met the 42-inch height requirement and has safely enjoyed similar attractions before, yet we were still made to feel uncomfortable and singled out throughout our visit. What upset me the most was watching my son cry after getting hurt, and instead of showing concern or compassion, staff looked at him, walked away, and laughed with another coworker. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable to witness. No child should ever be treated with such disregard, especially when they are visibly upset and crying. Throughout the visit, my children both older and younger were watched excessively, which made us feel targeted instead of welcomed. As a Black family, the treatment we experienced raised serious concerns about bias and discrimination. I fully understand the importance of safety rules, but rules should be enforced respectfully and equally for everyone. Families come to these facilities to feel safe and enjoy time together, not to feel humiliated, ignored, or judged. I will be contacting the district and administration for both facilities to formally report these experiences and seek accountability. I hope steps are taken to ensure no other family or child is made to feel this way again.

I joined Sola shortly after it opened. I had been searching for the perfect gym for what felt like…read moreforever, but I knew I was going to join Sola before my tour had even ended. Sola used to be perfect- clean, free (included in the membership) fitness classes, fitness trainers ready to assist, a smoothie bar with post-workout snacks, a pool, etc. The gym is very clean, and there is a very large variety of equipment that is available for use. There is an indoor track for running/ walking, that loops around the perimeter surrounding all of the exercise equipment. There are 3 studios for the variety of classes that are offered. These are always clean and well maintained. Yoga mats, exercise balls, cycling bikes, etc. are provided for use during these classes. The locker rooms are sanitary, and are regularly maintained by the staff. Shampoo, body wash, towels, mouthwash, q-tips, lotion, and blow dryers are all provided for use in the locker rooms. On the main floor, through each of the locker rooms, there is a jacuzzi, a therapy pool, and a regular pool with lap lanes. On the weekends Sola hosts family days where small children are allowed to splash around in the pool. Ever since the new management has taken over, there have been some obvious changes- not all necessarily for the better. The first, most noticeable change was a price increase in the membership. If it goes up any more I honestly don't know if the price can be justified. The fitness trainers seem to work fewer hours or are just harder to find. They are definitely knowledgable, and want to work with you and get to know you. There used to be at least 2-3 fitness trainers on the floor at any given time, but today I'm lucky if I can find one! The original instructors for the Zumba classes seemed to be a lot more lively and the classes were more full. There was such a great variety of music that everyone- all ages- could listen to and dance to. I felt like I was definitely getting a workout. Nothing against the current instructors, but i've slowly stopped attending the fitness classes because they've gotten boring. I haven't tried any of the paid classes yet, but maybe that's where all the fun has gone... The most annoying part of the change in new management was their social media/ membership outreach campaign. When I signed up I made the mistake of giving them my cell phone and my home phone. For at least a 2-week period I would get non-stop robo calls about joining Sola. I was already a member! This giant marketing push has really detracted from Sola's core values, and has really left a bad taste in my mouth. Please bring back the old Sola!
