If you are an aquarium or reptile hobbyist, this is a place you should visit. The fresh and saltwater fish selections are good. The fish all look healthy, and the tanks they are housed in are clean and appear well-maintained. They have quite a bit of variety in terms of fish species. The only downside is that most fish for sale are juveniles, so the selection is limited if you want larger, full-grown fish. In the back area, they have snakes, frogs, spiders, etc. In addition, they have all the necessary supplies and accessories you should need. The store is quite large, occupying two bays of a strip mall off of Moana. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this business. read more

The creatures are quite lively and even give you the "eye" when you walk by. Overall inventory of items have expanded. Will DEFINITELY be going back to get my other bettas and or other fish. They were so kind and explained almost everything to me as im new to the fish world and wanna make sure I do it right. I bought a baby corn snake from them (my first snake). It died 12 days after I brought it home. I took the body to them and the owner said that it ate while they had it so too bad so sad no refund. I sent the body to Washington State University for a necropsy. The pathogist stated the snake had ZERO percent body fat, a body conditionscore of 1 out of 5, it had adenovirus, and was chronically ill. The shop either knowingly sold me a sick snake or were too stupid to realize that the snakes was emaciated. Either way they should not be selling reptiles. If you can't recognize a sick animal you have no business selling said animal. If you know the animal is emaciated and sell it anyway you are a disgusting scumbag. read more

Beware when buying the orange and blue dwarf gourami. All of them eventually develop gourami disease which is 100 percent fatal. Store never warned me of this and will not refund me a month after purchasing the fish. read more

Back in 2025 my girlfriend bought a snake from strictly reef. She was looking for a calmer snake and they led her to this corn snake because it was much calmer and didn't move as much. Which should have been a red flag however she was still newer to snake ownership. However just 12 days later after bringing her home the snake passed away and my girlfriend was devastated and she called strictly reef and told them and they asked to bring the snake in to look. They ended up blaming her for the snake's passing saying it was nothing they did wrong and it was neglect on her part because the snake was eating just fine for them. Offered her a 10% discount if she wanted to get another pet but that was it. She then had it examined at the Washington State University for a necropsy. The pathology report showed the snake had zero percent body fat, a body condition of 1 out of 5, as well as adenovirus. This doesn't just appear in 12 days and is a sign strictly reef didn't care if the snake was sick or they may not have known. But the fact she has so little body fat is a big sign. I would never recommend strictly reef to anyone ever. read more

I'm still an amateur tarantula keeper and I live in Reno. There's not many good places to find tarantulas Petco PetSmart. Yes, decent price but this place you get a tarantula with its enclosure for a fairly decent price and they have exotic tarantulas not just standard ones. They also have coral reefs they have Freshwater and saltwater fish. They have plenty of things to buy to make your own enclosure for your animals, they have frogs they have snakes they have feeder supplies, frozen mice, frozen rats all different types of stuff everyone that's a critter keeper needs to definitely check this place out. Didn't seem too busy, but hopefully with this post it will get more of a reaction and more business read more

Strictly REEF has a great selection of well-kept livestock in regards to reptiles, salt-water fish & fresh-water fish. When looking to stock our 20 gallon tank with plants, we were given great tips on plant care after purchase. From Tetras to Koi's, Strictly REEF has a large selection to pick from. It's one of the few places in town to get your first Axolotl if you wanted one. They have a great selection of fish food to pick from as well. When it comes to fish diet, it's important not to just feed fish ONLY fish flakes. That said, Strictly REEF carried a vast variety of frozen fish food like blood worms. I highly recommend any new aquarium enthusiast to look into learning from Strictly REEF. read more

They've moved! Just across the parking lot, but it's a much nice space where all the goodies they have are nicely on display, and the same two rad folks who run the spot are quick and happy to help with advice and recommendations! You can read about my first visit and the reasons I chose to shop at "the other store" in my original review, but after a few months worth of not finding anything there I was looking for, I decided to swing in here again to see if they had it in stock. As the name implies, this shop is for reefers, and naturally they had the dry goods, livestock and some of the equipment I had been eyeballing on the internet! I love supporting a local business, and a local shop that caters to a niche hobby like saltwater reefing and aquariums in general is one I want to make sure sticks around. The knowledge these owners have is immense, and they're happy to talk to you at length about anything, as long as they're not busy ;) Their coral frag and colony selection was nice for the size of the shop, and prices all seemed fair. They had accessories and dry goods galore, and they were super knowledgeable about other options out there too. You don't have to take my word on their knowledge though. Just look at the huge display tank on the right as you walk in the store. There are some well established colonies, healthy livestock, and a nice looking aquascapr to set it all too. I could stare at the huge tank for hours. The corals are just that impressive. These folks know their stuff, so if you're looking to setup a tank or want to add to your existing one, I'd highly recommend a visit! read more

I have to be honest and for some reason I thought this place was a marijuana dispensary because um , it said REEF so I thought it meant reefer. But I thought, wait, no. :P And I am glad I went. Our koi pond had suffered badly from algae and all the koi had died due to a way too powerful algae cleaner, more on that later. That year, we had all those fires, and ash was also falling into the pond which didn't help. I usually drive with my dad to this place waaaay out off LaVista. Too far. I live a mile from SR. I was glad to see they had TONS of beautiful, healthy koi. I bought ten and came back to our pond. They swam happily around. Our pond is pretty big at almost 10000 gallons. I put the koi in and then used this clear liquid algae cleaner. A week later, they were all dead. Now I'm annoyed. I thought, this can't be. I went back and the young woman there said, " Bring in a sample of the water and I'll test it." And I did. It turns out it was that powerful algae cleaner which sucked too much oxygen out of the pond and killed the algae, but killed the fish too. And I used a minimal amount. Okay, that went in the trash. I bought a natural algae cleaner which WORKS WELL...it's just natural bacterial stuff. Then I bought ten new fish, and while they didn't have to do this because it was obviously my fault with the algae cleaner regardless of whether or not I knew about the strong stuff...THEY GAVE ME A FIFTY PERCENT DISCOUNT ON THE FISH. That was great!!!!! Talk about good customer service. I also buy all my betta fish tank plants here, and they are still there lasting and living in my tank for months. They have a beautiful selection of fish by the way, tropical, betta, saltwater, and some bad ass reptiles. Everything is well-cared for and clean. The owner and workers are friendly too. I'll never go anywhere else for pond and aquarium needs. I'm really, really glad I decided to check it out and it was not a 'reefer' place LOL. read more

Well I don't normally leave reviews. Just got a new tank went to this place as it is the only local family owned fish store in town as i try to support locals. We walked around for over 30 minutes, not one person asked if they could help us. asked one guy he said he doesn't take care of getting fish. Waited another 10 minutes finally got someone to help me. Was asking questions as I am new to Fish tanks. She didn't know much and kinda agreed with what I was saying so didn't get much advice. They do have a great selection of fish and place it pretty cool lots of salt water fish. I just called today and the lady pick up the the phone and was just a hello thought I had the wrong number had to ask if it was the place. Told the lady one if my fish died and her response was well some fish don't like certain environments. Asked what the return policies were and the said 48 hours. But I am more than welcome to bring my water down to get tested. They have great reviews. I guess I haven't been lucky. read more

I have been to all the aquarium stores in Reno on more than one occasion. I have learned a great deal - whether it's about the water, disease, breed knowledge, etc. If you get into this hobby, you'd better do your homework. That said, there is NO shortage of knowledge, help, quality products, and product knowledge at Strictly Reef. Customer service is the BEST, and they take the time to help the novice as much as the more experienced customer. It's like a family of enthusiasts who are always willing to share what they know and their own experiences, which helped me learn even faster. I can count on them having the best prices and products and being willing to work with you on any issue you may have. The fish and the plants are plentiful and interesting, and their prices, I believe, are the best in town. I love that the plant tanks are filled weekly with healthy and unusually beautiful plants. The staff tries hard to ensure you are happy each time you walk through the door and know you by your first name if you are a regular. Listening is a strong point; after speaking to the staff, I will often learn to choose a better approach to solving any problems I may have and learn about better products too. It is truly the best store in Reno and the coolest one too! My honest experience now, after moving from novice to more educated enthusiast of fish and aqua-scapes, is that I will not need to shop anywhere else! 10 Stars for me on the people, products, knowledge, and honesty. read more

Maybe the easiest 5 stars I could ever give a business. The name has thrown me off for years, hence why I hadn't been there until today. They do offer an incredible selection of fresh water aquaria. As well as reptiles and the like. Amazing staff that are incredibly knowledgeable. Great selection of fish and supplies. Stunning display/rehoming tanks. You can tell this place is well managed and extremely well cared for. It shows in every aspect. Very high level of cleanliness(super hard to maintain in the aquarium world). The place smells fresh, not like a swamp that you'd expect with that much water and fish in a small area. 11/10, they made a customer for life out of me today. My only warning would be watch out for duckweed in every bag you bring home. I had some hitchhike in both my fish and Java fern bags lol. But that's why you quarantine. read more

While walking around the shopping center i walked passed this place and then was like "What is this place??" so decided to walk in and check out this place and see what they had to offer. Looked partially empty up front but that didnt stop me by stopping in. As i walked in, the guy behind the counter was okay, did not say much to me but i continued to walk around and see what this store is all about. From the first fish i seen i was like in awe. I mean will not buy much seeing that i am not really into fish well i like to eat and go fishing but i really do not see myself purchasing much from here. As i was leaving the place i did ask the man behind the counter if i could take some pictures and he said go ahead so that is a plus. If your into fish, and are looking for a new place for a tank and more then i would suggest you take a look at this place and hopefully it has what your looking for. read more

both tanks I got leak bad, the beta they sold me died in 2 hours in a fully cycled tank with proper ph, and the staff seems to not want anything to do with helping customers and they were incredibl rude on the phone about all of it. overall an awful experience and I'll most likely won't go back. This is by far the very best aquarium shop for many miles in each direction! They have many species of fish you just cannot find in most aquarium shops in the western United States. Their prices are extremely reasonable, their fish look incredibly healthy and the store is very clean with all of the most important products you might need as a beginning to advanced aquarium hobbyist. Michelle set our tank up in our home, for a very reasonable fee, and they have walked us through every annoying knit picking question with no complaints. They know about everything in their store off the top of their heads. They give advice in any way they can. They know how to pair fish and coral with ease. Ok ok I know I know I haven't been around for a while, but I'm trying to come back with my yelp game strong. So I went to this awesome place after transferring my fish tank to my new house I needed a more natural look instead of the fake plastic stuff you buy at a regular pet store. They have amazing tanks and amazing fish and they have rocks and wood to add to your tank. I bought 4 rocks in different sizes. And it only came out to about $52 for the rocks and some other items. The gal that helped us was very knowledgeable and I will definitely be getting more fish at this location than the usual pet store that I normally go to. The prices are pretty much the same but I enjoy these privately owned establishments instead. I'm willing to pay a little more to help keep things local. I'll post photos of my tank later. read more
