It is a tennis center that offers private lessons, group clinics, and/or rented court time for anyone from beginners to high-level competitive players. The teaching pros, Omar and Walid, are friendly and professional and most importantly they are excellent coaches, having many decades of experience between them. They will provide the beginner/casual player with a solid fundamental base, but they just as effectively coach advanced players (their resumes include many very successful players, including professionals.) The atmosphere is very laid-back despite the high level of expertise and is free of the snobbiness one encounters in most tennis academies around the city. The building, adjacent to an indoor soccer facility, houses several courts and also includes a weight room with both machines and free weights. They also charge no membership fees, a rarity in the tennis world, and are very reasonably priced, especially compared to other tennis centers in the area. It is located at the southern edge of the Central Gardens neighborhood in Midtown. All in all, the Memphis Sports Academy is an excellent choice for any level of tennis player wanting top-notch instruction without the financial commitment or stuffiness of most other such facilities.

He paired me with young, promising players to teach them that sometimes, trickery and deceit could beat speed and strength. The kids gave me humility and respect.

It has tons of parking available is is home to a 1-mile paved loop trail, shelters, lots of green space, and a lake. They also claim that the 18-hole golf course, Memphis Botanic Gardens (separate admission cost), and Leftwich Tennis Center are park of the park as well. Some sections of the park were closed while I was there, but I still got to see a large portion. The lake is decent and has benches and picnic tables along its permitter for visitors to sit. The area is pretty well shaded. I am not sure if it is stocked or not but there were quite a few people fishing there during my visit. I did not see anyone pull anything though. The park is home to some public art sculptures and is part of the national Cancer Survivor Plaza Program. The area I was in had tons of green space. It could be suitable for most field activities including flying a kite, playing football, having a soccer game, or picnic. There was a man using the space as a golf ball driving range while I was there. There are a lot of organized walks hosted at this park. It is a perfect park for this activity. The park's managers tout this place as being perfect for fitness and relaxation and I agree with them. This is a possible destination park, depending on what you are looking to do. I recommend it for novice golfers, hikers and those looking to relax.
