We used Stringfellow's twice. The first time was to remove a tree threatening to fall on a house. It was very dangerous...but they offered a quote well below others...and they did a superb job safely removing the tree. The second time we needed two very large (and dead and/or rotting) trees removed plus a significant amount of bramble and underbrush...it was a full two days for their crew. Their 4-man crew were highly skilled and worked ceaselessly. They were also very responsive to additional requests and did very high quality work...frequently going over and above what was requested. They also cut, split and stacked the "good" wood from the dead oak so we will now have several years worth of high quality firewood. They were also fearless and resilient. As they were cutting the bramble...they discovered a copperhead snake. They were able to kill it...and in so doing...discovered it had recently given birth to 5 smaller copperheads. They were able to subsequently dispose of them also...thereby saving my wife and neighbors from potential disaster. All-in-all...I cannot speak highly enough about the work crew; their energy, skill and dedication; their high standards/work ethic and their responsiveness. Highly recommend! read more

Stringfellow is absolutely the best tree service we have ever used. Came out the very day we called and did an amazing job. Jason and his workers were respectful and highly efficient. We needed a few standing trees felled and we had a ton of old trees that had come down over the years that we wanted cleaned up. All the trees were cut and stacked, debris was chipped and hauled away, and the sawdust was blown off the driveway and lawn. They left our property beautifully clean and tidy. Excellent service! Brian...the representative was fast to act on our project to have 3 large, dead trees removed. His communication was great. His colleagues were efficient in removing all three trees (see pic) despite limited room and margin for error...they were very close to our house as well as the neighbors. They got it done within an hour and cleaned up and hauled away the wood. My lawn, neighboring trees and plants were just as they were before the start of this operation. Jason came to our house quickly and was able to give a quote right away. Excellent, prompt service. I have a backyard with tight access and many trees. The crew climbed up really tall trees and did an excellent job of clearing the canopy as well as taking down a poplar without damaging our swing set, shed or fire pit, all of which are within 20 feet of the trees that were cut/trimmed. Brian was honest in saying that one of the giant trees I thought needed removal was still healthy even though he would make more money by removing it entirely. Stringfellow's Tree Service ~ We can't say enough wonderful things about these guys! Where to begin? We just got roof solar panels, and the solar company recommended that while we would get significant solar gain, taking a few trees down would improve that gain. I found these guys' website, read the positive reviews, and filled out a brief form to get a free estimate; I heard back in under an hour. The very next day, Brian met us (and kept in communication until we met). He gave us what we felt was a reasonable estimate, but more importantly, he was highly knowledgeable and was able to tell us which trees did NOT need to come down and could be modestly trimmed or treated for beetles, what branches could be cut or cabled to keep a leaning tree from toppling on our house, etc. We felt greatly relieved at how much he knew about trees and how he was not trying to get more work but actually trying to help us save trees we didn't want to cut down. He told us that if we wanted, we could have the trees done the same day. After giving us the quote, he came back and said he'd found a dead tree by our back shed; he said they'd take that down and chip it (same price). Then he said they'd also clean out all our gutters (in desperate need of cleaning before they arrived). AND he showed us a tree that had a beetle infestation (we were oblivious). He had something in his truck and he treated the beetle infested tree. Still the same price. Brian had arrived for the estimate at 11:30, and by noon, he already had six guys in our yard, ready to go: a foreman named Tommy and five workers, all of whom are the hardest workers we've ever witnessed. No exaggeration. They all hit the ground running, worked until 8 pm, and as far as I can tell, took maybe one five-minute break, but only because their chipper needed adjusting. They just never stopped. The man climbing up and cutting the branches of trees was amazingly agile and seemed gleeful to be doing the work! So fast, so competent and confident, so neat--we didn't worry for his safety in those high trees. We have a dog fence where one tree that needing major trimming was, and we worried we'd have to take down the fence for such large branches to be removed, but they said, "No problem--we can get them out over the top of the fence." It saved us so much time. Really--these guys never stopped working for eight hours. After they left, my husband and I felt that we underpaid them. Seriously. Essentially, within 28 hours of my online request, two dead trees were completely gone and either chipped (onto my dog path, so I don't have to go out and buy chips to cover it: an extra perk) or cut into logs (neatly stacked), and four very high trees were dramatically trimmed (enough for maximum solar gain). Then they cleaned up EVERYTHING. Our porch was left immaculate (far cleaner than they found it). But the best thing was the work attitude of every one of them. So much energy, so much joy in the work, never slacking, actually running to get tree branches to the chipper. It was a relief to witness so many individuals want to go above and beyond and do their best work. We actually saw guys (who still had a two-hour drive ahead of them to go home, leaving after 8 pm) walking around picking up individual leaves underneath the trees. There weren't even tiny sticks under our huge maples! Their work ethic gave us hope for the future. We are beyond thrilled with their work. After having terrible luck with workers in the state we moved here from, we're relieved to know we have go-to guys for our huge yard. Yea! I hesitated to write all this because, greedily, I want them to be available for when WE need them ~ we hope they don't get TOO busy! read more

If you live in DC, you need a permit to remove trees that are above a certain size. https://ddot.dc.gov/page/tree-regulations Cutting down a tree without a permit risks hefty fines for you the homeowner as well as for the tree company. As in over $10,000 - it depends on the size of the tree. This is well known to reputable tree services. Michael Stringfellow removed a large public street tree from in front of my neighbor's house - the tree did not belong to the neighbors - without a permit. Stringfellow also gave me an exorbitant estimate for some tree trimming work -- before his illegal removal of the street tree of course. I wouldn't do business with this company. Read the filtered reviews, there is info that I would want to know about if I were considering using them. But personally I would avoid Stringfellow Tree Service. I used Adirondack, which has stellar reviews on Yelp and in Consumer Checkbook plus they applied and got the tree removal permit (free) for my dying ash tree. read more

Surprising in several ways... I needed a tree cut down and removed from my back yard. I requested quotes (using yelp's mechanism that blasts out one request to multiple businesses) and received six replies within minutes. A few of the bidders came out, and along with several others provided quotes for various amounts, from almost reasonable to staggering. Then Jason from Stringfellow's came by, looked at the tree, and offered to do the work for less than anyone. On his way out he apologized for only having his toolless "quote truck" and said if he at least had a shovel, he could take care of it on the spot. I offered him the use of my shovel, he called to have a couple more guys come out, and in less than an hour of them digging, hacking, and struggling my 15' tree wasn't crowding my yard any longer. I could not have been happier. These guys struck me as wanting to get the job done at a fair price and completing their work quickly and completely. Then, in preparation for putting together this review I took a closer look at other posting to yelp. I was surprised to see a couple of references to some legal problems they had a while back. Frankly, if I had seen them before this started, I may not have considered them as an option. As it was, as I said, they got the work done for less than the others quotes I received. In one case, for more than 2/3's less! Maybe I got lucky or maybe these guys are working really hard to do the work they promise and charging great, yet fair prices to (re)build their business. FWIW, the next time I need work done I will include them in the list of contractors to bid on the job. read more
