Strawberry Village has been my one-stop shopping center during Covid. Why? Because it has…read moreeverything I need: a grocery store/pharmacy, coffee (not just 1, but 2 Starbucks locations), a bagel house; and plenty of family-friendly dining options (Harmony Restaurant, Thep Lela, Pizza Antica, Whisk + Skillet, etc.). They also have more fast casual spots for a quick meal to go, such as In 'N Out Burger, High Tech Burrito, and Parranga. They have an Orange Theory Fitness center, a Woodland's Pet Store, as well as a AAA location (for all my automotive/DMV needs). Over the years, they've done a really nice job of landscaping the property. There are plenty of palm trees and outdoor seating areas (which is especially convenient now during this Covid craziness). The shopping center is always clean. Seldom will you find litter or debris on the ground. In the past few year, more upscale shops have opened their doors to appease the local Soccer moms, including Spanish Table, West Elm, Lavande Nail Spa, and Athleta. You certainly won't find a Target, Panda Express or $1 Store in this mall. Welcome to Mill Valley, folks. Although Strawberry Village continues to expand its vendor portfolio and spruce itself up, my favorite thing about this mall is the smaller businesses who have been there for years. I'm talking about the old shoe/watch repair store, the copy shop, the camera store, and Arch Rival (which continues to sell sporting goods and shoes). Even in this Amazon home delivery world, these businesses continue to survive, and I'm happy to support them. * If you're a dog owner, I'll let you in on a little secret. The Strawberry Village is a great place to walk the pooch when it's raining because of all the covered outdoor areas.

Set my previously purchased gallon of unopened paint on the counter and the sales person grabbed it…read moreand set it directly in front of her and rung me up for around $197. I told her I just brought it in to return it. She decided that was the time she needed to go take a bathroom break and called a man to come cover for her who yells at her saying he didn't have time for that because he had so much to do!! But here he comes in a huge huff and asks me for my receipt and then looks at the can and said "no, no way...we can't return this because it has some rust on top" THIS IS THE SAME GALLON OF PAINT I WAS JUST RUNG UP IN A SALE FOR BY THE OTHER PERSON! I didn't say anything but you just sold it to me a month ago and he now starts shouting at me that he is positive as soon as a can comes in with any rust on top they discard it immediately and would never sell me that can. Literally tried to sell it me a few seconds before.... I said he can see my receipt under my membership and all frantic attempting to take my member number 3 times and kept messing up the number but wont slow down or listen. He finds the transaction and says nope no can't do it because it is from way too long ago and looks to tell me 7/13/2025, which is last month. I said it is obviously unopened and spoke to a store manager before coming in and if he could get Brian. And he tells me he is the store manager and Brian only manages inventory. I asked for a copy of my receipt And he said no and that he needed to ask me to leave the store immediately! He took the gallon of paint and pulled it toward himself and I said he was unbelievably rude and before I could finish he was shouting again... telling me he is not rude!! This was all after having to watch the prior cashier badger and belittled a customer rolling her eyes, and making other noises a 5 year old would make when exhausted at a customer already spending $300.00 because he was not simply agreeing with what she was incoherently mumbling about a gold member and refused to answer his questions or explain what she even saying to him until all the joy left his face and he just said yes do it to get away from her, it was my turn next.

I had an absolutely strange, demeaning and wildly unprofessional experience with the General…read moreManager, Mecque Turner. Coming from a hospitality background, I always try to give the benefit of the doubt, but I was absolutely floored with her complete lack of professionalism and frankly odd behavior. I see from a number of other reviews, that my experience is unfortunately common with her. I had purchased shoes from their San Anselmo location just over a month ago -- receiving fantastic help by the way at that location. Fast forward 37 days and I noticed extreme wear to the outsoles of my shoes and they were separating in places. I found this very odd for such a short period of usage and I called the San Anselmo shop and they recommended I go to the Mill Valley location for help, which is where the alternate universe service started. Mecque looked at the shoes, aware that they had been used for just over a month, and replied this is not a fault with the shoe, it is a problem with how I walk...something to the effect of 'you do not pick your heel up enough and walk too flat'. Wait, what? Her first response was telling me that the shoe is fine and that I do not walk correctly! My intention was to first just show the shoes to ask if they were defective or if this was just an easily wearing shoe, not to demand a refund or anything like that. Instead, I was told my walking style was defective! But wait, there is more.... I had thought they would maybe exchange the pair for a new one, or perhaps help me find a shoe that might be a more durable one. When I started to inquire about this, Mecque abruptly stated that she was providing a full refund (again, I had not asked for this) and then she stated multiple times that I would be better served going to another store, because, get this, she told me she had limited time to help customers and that I was not the type of customer that she wanted to help. I was absolutely taken completely off-guard and stunned by her statement, but was able to keep my composure and ask if she meant that their store did not cater to walkers? She reiterated that I should find another store and listed off a few stores that I should go to instead. Really super bizarre behavior. With her declaring a refund as my only option, I even asked if the shoe company would reimburse them, and she confirmed they would, as the last thing I would want is to hurt a local business. Anyway, I would like to reiterate that I was super calm and friendly throughout and asked for nothing when I arrived, only asking their opinion on if it was normal for a shoe to wear out after just 37 days. I am writing this note as a word of caution and to reinforce the myriad similar interactions others have had with this manager. It was pretty deflating to have this experience with a business that I specifically sought out to locally support with a purchase that I really could use personalized, friendly help with. Anyway, hopefully she will at some point understand just how shocking and offensive her service is, and really aim to help all customers, not just the ones that meet her specific customer profile.

I really appreciate Chris, Mecque, Jacques, Jo Jo and others for hosting a friendly and welcoming…read moreSaturday morning run every week.
