Great coffee! Pastries are OK. The seating area is nice but not as cozy as the former coffee shop (profile). They have very few offerings, none of which are special or memorable. If I wanted a coffee and I was walking by, I'd go again, otherwise, naaah.

Cute little cafe with many options for breakfast, drinks, coffee, and lunch. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious as were the pastry items. We enjoyed some wine and drinks in the evening before our dinner reservations and the selection of wines were impressive for a small cafe. The customer service was top notch and the restaurant was clean, warm, and inviting. We will definitely be back when back in town.

Cafés have a way of making you feel at home. Grab a bite to eat, sip on some roasted coffee, and set up to do some work or just meet up with some friends. More recently, cafés have been showing their versatility by becoming hot spots for evening cocktails, live music, and light bites. Stroll is approaching this new wave of cafés. Newly nestled in downtown Portsmouth, Stroll has a lot going for itself. I will start with the positives. (+)The inside of the venue is modern with an abundance of seating, given the smaller setting. They have done a great job setting up the space to fit the most people comfortably. It also helps that they are right next to a few hotels, which will give them plenty of service from incoming and outgoing visitors. (+)They serve La Mulita coffee, which is a local coffee roaster serving quality coffee beans. I highly suggest checking them out or grabbing a cup at Stroll! (+)They provide a great deal of pastries and breakfast options, and they even have prepackaged goods to grab and go if need be. (+/-)Stroll transitions to a wine / spritzer bar and light bites establishment from 4-7. More on why I give this a mixed review later on. Now with the negatives, and I am going to preface this by stating that Stroll is very new and has some areas for growth. If they can fix some of these things, then they are well on their way to becoming something really unique and cool in the Portsmouth café scene. (-)I have now been to Stroll a few times and the service is really lacking. As previously stated, cafés should give you that home-y relaxing feel that makes you want to come back for more. Unfortunately, the service has yet to do that. On my first visit, my partner and I were not even greeted and when we approached the cashier to order, we were the first to say hello...with a very lackluster response. As my partner and I sat to drink our coffee, the whole time we listened to two workers complaining about their shift and discussing how to make certain drinks and getting frustrated. This is a direct conversation that happened, "How many pumps of chocolate do you put in this size? Uh...I put two. "Ugh, I put three. Whatever..." Not the best conversation for patrons to hear. On our second visit, there was no one in the café except for the two workers working behind the bar (two different ones from the previous experience). My partner and I were excited to try the wine and grab a few empanadas to start the night. We were greeted, but again, it felt like we were interrupting the two workers' conversation as they quickly got back to what they were previously talking about. As my partner and I were looking to see what wine bottles they had, my partner finally asked "do you have a wine list or anything?" The workers finally said "oh yeah, right here!", gave us their wine menu, and continued their conversation. Again, I get it, you talk with coworkers, but it really was off-putting for a second time. (-)At night, the have a variety of empanada options. My partner and I ordered two, the chipotle chicken and the mushroom and spinach. They looked homemade, which was great, however, they were still cold in the middle. Overall, as perviously stated, I do believe Stroll has a lot going for itself. It's new, hip, and can be a place that provides music, art, and great wines and bites. As of now, the servicing was just really off-putting and the execution of the bites could be better, as far as the empanadas. I have high hopes!

Whoever made this cookie here on June 7th, 2023 needs a pay raise. Hands down the best cookie I've ever had. Haven't stopped thinking about it since, it was that good!

It's a brand new cafe with spacious sitting area. It's nicely decorated and they have plenty of tables. Everyone was very nice. I ordered a latte. It came in a nice white mug. It was delicious and had nice foam.

The delightful scent of coffee was in the air and the staff were absolutely friendly as you approached the counter. Despite a buzz of patrons trickling in and ordering, the coffee was delivered to the table shortly after I sat. The staff obviously had a strong momentum going as I watched other tables being served just as quickly. Before I could even really start sipping on my piping hot Cafe Au Lait, I was served my salad and crepe. It was fun to watch how each person worked their station passionately. The lady preparing the crepes meticulously cleaned her station as she cooked. The staff on coffee were brewing away and sending cups out to diners. Other items were coming out from the back kitchen. They worked in unison like a well oiled machine. I definitely enjoyed my coffee. My salad was generous and hit the spot. The crepe was acceptable. Would I come back? Yeah, definitely my type of breakfast spot when visiting Portsmouth again. I definitely will try their croissants next time as well as check out their wine bar in the evenings!

That said, both the pappardelle and the ravioli were a bit heavy on the sauce. While the sauces were delicious, they slightly overwhelmed the pasta and distracted from the delicate flavors of the lobster. The standout entrée was the braised short rib. It was incredibly tender and packed with rich, savory flavor. The drinks were excellent, and dessert was the perfect finish. The pistachio cheesecake was absolutely outstanding. Added note: I ordered the Caesar salad...I was asked if I wanted anchovies. I did, the server said nothing about an additional charge for the anchovies and I didn't look on the bill. If they do charge for anchovies knock one star off this review. One other reviewer claimed they charged extra for anchovies. A traditional Caesar comes with anchovies! If they're charging extra; that's just wrong. Nowhere on the menu does it say extra for anchovies. Bon appétit

The tuna crudo was a standout appetizer--silky slices of fresh raw tuna with bright Asian-inspired flavors that complemented the fish beautifully. My only complaint? Four pieces for $21 disappeared way too quickly. I also tried Ethel's Creamy Lobster Roll, which came on perfectly toasted bread with the restaurant's signature thick-cut, house-made 242 fries. While the buttery roll was satisfying, I was hoping for a more generous portion of lobster. At $54, plus an upcharge for the specialty 242 in house made fries, this was definitely the meal that emptied the wallet more than it impressed my taste buds. The crispy fish tacos were my favorite of the meal. Each taco was packed with large pieces of crispy fried fish layered over a fresh slaw, and a squeeze of lime brought everything together with a bright, refreshing finish. As for the crispy fish sandwich...it was just mid. Perfectly edible, but nothing memorable compared to the rest of the menu. Overall, this is a beautiful seafood restaurant with a lively atmosphere and quality ingredients, but be prepared for upscale prices. You'll likely leave with a full stomach--but also a noticeably lighter wallet.
