Plenty of vegan options at this cute little cafe, including an all-day vegan burrito, sandwiches, salads, and a rice bowl. I ordered a rice bowl with tofu ($12), which came out in about 10 minutes. This was a very basic bowl, with steamed brown rice, steamed zucchini, red pepper, tomato, small pieces of bok choy, and tofu. No flavour whatsoever than the size of soy sauce. Honestly, this was pretty lame. I do appreciate the all the vegan options, and I really liked the vibe in there; but based on this single food experience, they need to completely redesign their bowls. read more

This is a gem outside Portsmouth. They specialize in tea, and have an ample tea selection. I opted for the sencha (green) and was delighted. The lunch selections are fresh, healthy and tasty. I can't speak for the rice or potato bowls but they looked really tasty in a choose your own adventure style. I savored my New Orleans Chicken Sandwich which had a nice spice (tobasco, pepper) along with chicken breast. They sell tea to go that my wife swears by. Their English muffins are pretty awesome - you can get those as an egg sandwich. The vibe is chill. Service was very friendly. Parking is a bit tight but we found a spot. This review will only be their coffee/drinks as we already had breakfast elsewhere before. This was a great spot to come across as my wife and I love checking out local coffee spots. I would come back again to try breakfast along side another drink. I appreciated how much coffee beans/teas/supplies and other things for sale besides drinks and food. I also was a huge fan of there being so many seasonal flavors available in the form of chai, lattes, and coffees. My wife got their apple pie chai while I got their sugar cookie latte and both were phenomenal with lots of flavor. They have a good amount of seats available if you are looking to have breakfast and a drink while doing some work or catching up with friends! Very friendly and efficient staff! The coffee and tea selections are varied but not overwhelming, and the food, while not noteworthy, is good. Not sure what the "vinyl" part of the experience is, or was, or is supposed to be. There's a small crate of used records on a shelf across from the restroom, and that's it. My guess is that this part of the business is being phased out. The ambience is somewhere between high school cafeteria and airport lounge, but the folks that work there more than make up for it! I love visiting local coffee shops when I travel and White Heron did not disappoint. I got an iced rose matcha latte with oat milk. The matcha wasn't too sweet or too butter and the rose flavor was noticeable but subtle. The turkey, cheddar, and roasted tomato sandwich was good too. Employees were friendly. So I stopped for a cup of coffee and (sadly?) could not resist the GIANT Molasses triple ginger cookie. I tried a wee bit of the Mexican which seemed a little bitter and thought, bah, the coffee is not going to be great. But I filled my cup with the Honduran blend and it was EXCELLENT. I drink my coffee black and this was an unusually good cup---it actually had floral notes which is not anything I ever pictured myself saying. And the cookie was delicious. WiFi can be flakey and there is far more bustle and noise here than an otherwise calm exterior demeanor would suggest. High ceilings and tons of glass mean those on the other end of your calls may think you're Billy Madison going back to school, when its just area families stopping in with an entouraage of children untamed by delicious, organic munchies. Parking is tricky, especially when it's busy. It felt like a Jenga puzzle to get in and out again. I loved the assortment of teas. I bought a vanilla black loose tea that I'm looking forward to trying. The set up of the store is pretty cool with a huge selection of vinyl before you get to all of the tea and coffee products. I went with a half chai/half coffee iced drink that was quite delightful. The two flavors worked surprisingly well together. I also purchased a peanut butter whoopie pie. This went really great with the coffee but wasn't as tasty as I expected. Later, when walking around downtown Portsmouth, I saw a Mexican restaurant with a sign featuring their products. I didn't particularly enjoy the iced tea selection because it was so small. They only had 4-5 options and I am used to being able to select any tea on the menu and choosing to have it iced or hot so for that reason I decided to get a different beverage instead. I got an iced cranberry apple cider which turned out delicious! My boyfriend got the iced peach rooibos tea which wasn't bad but without much flavor. I'd come back here to try something new because the menu has a large selection of food and beverages. *Also: the vegan chocolate pumpkin chai donut is the best donut I've ever had. So this is where the White Heron's store/cafe is located! I've seen their loose tea leaves line at a few trendy coffee shops and always wanted to try them. And since it was only a 5 min drive from our inn, I ended up dragging my friends here just so I could sample their tea. It's a fun and bright open atmosphere. The store side is tidy and neat for shoppers and the seating side was very limited. London Fog- Not my favorite cup. The steamed milk was way too thick and they didn't add enough vanilla syrup to balance the bergamot from the earl grey. Overall Service: Friendly and nice folks at the counter. I ended up purchasing a tin of their Earl Grey Lavender loose tea leaves and it tasted better on it's own. It's definitely a masterpiece with the floral aroma mixed together with the classic flavor of earl grey. Can't wait to try out their other flavors! Just a note: The parking situation on the left side of the building is tight and people have the tendency to park willy-nilly. Not ideal if you're just trying to run in and out. read more

Loads of vegan and gluten free options with daily creative donut flavors, lots of local yummies and a staff with hearts of gold! Wifi can get a little bogged down with all the regulars during the day, but that's just an excuse to get another coffee. Which is excellent! Almond milk, stevia options and a great tea selection that one day I will dive into. This place is local, welcoming, truly accommodating and friendly. Had been dying to try White Heron and have mixed feelings about the experience. The atmosphere is great -- clean, bright, spacious. The decaf coffee was good, but I was not blown away by the homemade English muffin. It resembled a hamburger bun and the peanut butter on top was your basic creamy peanut butter. I think I was expecting a delicious, fresh, homemade English muffin with all the nooks and crannies, but unfortunately, that is not what I got.
