Bartender Camden was welcoming and friendly, it was fun to chat with him on a quiet afternoon. The space is along a quiet street with low ceilings, it's very cozy with soft lighting and art, plus beer signs. The beer menu was great with some fun styles. My first time visiting this brewery was not completely a pleasant experience. The woman working was not friendly at all. It seemed like she didn't want to be there and anytime I asked questions about the beer, she had an attitude like I was bothering her. I ordered a flight and I enjoyed the beers. They have some great tasting beers on tap. The music was great, it was a blend of 90's jams. They don't serve food, but they allow you to bring in your own. The decor was simple, felt a bit cold and the vibe was chill. It's a small interesting space, when we arrived it was just us and 2 other small parties. When we left, there was a chaotic stroller party happening in the back. The brewery filled up pretty quick on a Saturday afternoon, with one slow moving angry woman pouring beers, it took awhile to get a beer. If the woman behind the bar had provided better customer service, I might have left a higher scoring review. I really wanted to like this place. Will I be back, probably not. read more

This brewery is the oft overlooked one amongst the south Brooklyn breweries, although this place has remained one of my favorites. Beers are great, the workers here are the absolute nicest. They also allow outside food (Finback no longer does even though their kitchen is trash). They have all sorts of events like trivia, movies, game nights, sporting events, etc if you keep track of their calendar. Certain number of times a year they have an annual membership club you can join, where your first beer is free every time you visit. They have some nice tables out on the street when the weather is nice, as well as big tables inside. Strong Rope Brewery is a craft brewery that opened in Brooklyn, New York in December 2015. It was founded by husband and wife Jason Sahler and Christina Quintero. Sahler had spent some time as a home-brewer and even won some awards before he decided to open his own brewery. Sahler and Quintero's mission was to create handcrafted local and organic ales that feature seasonal offerings utilizing fresh produce, herbs, spices, hops and malt. Eventually they found a location in Brooklyn's Gowanus neighborhood. The name "Stong Rope" was chosen as an homage to Sahler's best friend Eric Ropiteau, who passed away on September 11th. His nickname was "Rope" and he was a huge inspiration to Sahler. Although the brewery did well when it opened, it's location and small space proved challenging for production and sales during the warmer months. A seasonal location in the Adirondacks opened in 2019 at Potters Resort in Blue Mountain Lake. A third location with a waterfront view (and excellent views of the Statue of Liberty) opened in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood in 2021. Most of the brewery's overall production now happens at the Red Hook location. All of Strong Rope's beers are produced with 100% New York State grown ingredients. I recently visited Strong Rope's flagship location while I was cycling around NYC with a cycling buddy of mine. We were actually in Gowanus to visit Finback Brewery's Brooklyn location, but when we saw that Strong Rope was conveniently located across the street then we decided to check them out too. The taproom was cozy and they had a variety of styles on draft. My friend and I decided to order some flights and drink them outside. My flight consisted of "Drinkery" (Session Bitter), "Local Liquid NY Pils" (Pilsner), "Leather Rick's" (Oyster Stout), "Wolf Pack" (New England IPA), and "Catty Corner" (Key Lime Gosé). The latter was my favorite and had a nice refreshing lime flavor; excellent summer beer! I'm very happy to have found Strong Rope by accident. I appreciated how small and low-key this brewery was. Our afternoon visit was a chill one indeed. Taps consist mostly of the classic styles which is a bold move but a respectable one at that. Back to the roots! 5oz tasters a la carte is a fairly expensive route. As it was our first time in, I was in the mood to select a few brews to try. The fact that they offered taster flights was a god-send. Mix any 5 for $18, which is just under $4 per taster. The stand out to me was their Star Sauce Imperial Stout. I've not had an imperial stout in some time and this one transported me back to a simpler time. A full-bodied stout with an event robust, roasty character. Beertender played some sweet alt rock tunes for a chill afternoon. Brewery is medium in size and possesses enough seating for a few groups to socialize. Came here with Beer Club and am kicking myself for not coming earlier! This is a nice, cozy place to drink fresh beer. It's not too huge but there are a couple of larger tables and some high tops and we had a crowd of about 30 guys who fit comfortably here. Bartender was awesome and made sure we didn't have to wait for beers. I tried two beers...Devil's Bathtub and Cloud Father. I loved the amber style Devil's Bathtub. The Cloud Father was okay but it was sweeter than I usually like and not as peppery as I anticipated. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine beer, just not my favorite style. There is no food but it's easy to order in or bring some food so you can have a bite while you're sipping your beer. Terrific little place...can't wait to return! read more

I'm not even gonna lie. I had a hazy IPA that was fantastic. However, I've went in there three times. The first time, the hazy IPA was out of the tap and I happen to spill half of it. I didn't get a replacement. The second time I went, There was a guy eating Chinese food and they don't even serve food. His customer service was slow. The second time I went there, there was a lady that didn't even give me eye contact or say anything to me or my date. So needless to say only had a half a beer there. I have lived in Park Slope for almost 4 years and just noticed this place over the weekend, so I decided to check it out. Stopped by at around 5pm on a Saturday and was shocked at how packed the place was. A little dark inside and not a ton of seating, but still a cool ambiance to the cellar-like space. We loved Strong Rope Brewery! Incredibly solid brews, great service, dog friendly, chill atmosphere - what more could you want in a brewery!? It's a very small space though so cross your fingers for a seat. This taproom in Brooklyn is all about using NY ingredients in their beers and man are they delicious! Probably the best beers I had while in NYC and I had quite a few. ;) And the bar is so cool looking, almost as if you are in a forest with cool tree tables and flight holders. Rope-A-Dope is their 7.6% petite Barleywine and very likely the best barley wine I've ever had - and again, I've had quite a few! Loved Holy Ink, their 6.5% Stout, noms! Those were my two favorite beers while at Strong Rope but everything I tried was respectable - Blood of Gods a 6.1% Red Ale and Social Butterfly an 8.9% Double IPA. A flight of 5 ran me $18 which is a bit much but if you don't want to pick your own beers, they do a standard flight for $15 as well. I came in because I saw them on Beerland on Vice. Stopped by on my way home from Ikea because it showed up on Google maps... Easy to find on President Street. Parking was easy to find a block away. Was greeted and welcomed upon entry. Did a mixed flight my favorite was the Strong rope IPA and the #8. The stout was one of the best atouts I have ever had. They have plenty of menus to order food from. They also have plenty of games, books and magazines. I played two games of chess and felt so comfortable. No stress. No rush. Great crowd. The bar is beautifully made. It is tree slices from Hurricane Sandy damaged trees... I will have to go back and take pictures. The bathroom was very clean and the serve yourself water were a plus. I will be back. read more

I'm an IPA drinker and found a wonderful brewery where even dogs are welcome. I really enjoyed their Wolf In The Garden hazy (5.6) snd Tenacity of Cones (6.1), both of which delivered as promised. It's an unassuming, classic Bklyn neighborhood brewery where it's easy to feel at home. There is plenty of outdoor seating and parking and they offer the real deal in crowders to go. Many reviews begin with me trying to create some clever tie in with the name of whatever I'm reviewing. Sorry, Strong Rope, I got nothin'. I may not have a fun, little quip to throw out there, but what matters most is the beer, and the beer at Strong Rope Brewery delivers nicely. I ventured out to Brooklyn for a day of food and beer adventures with some chums and our first stop was here. SRB has an old, almost classic feel that borrows from New York of yesteryear and maybe even a little European style. On a super hot summer day, it was nice to get in the AC and sit at one of their spacious wooden tables to sip some suds. As the first stop, and with plenty more beer to come *cough Other Half cough*, we chose to split a flight and grab one extra taster for a total of 6 out of 9 brews available...well, one other little reason was the price. $14 for the "standard" flight which was five pours of a selected beer group. For $18 you can choose what you want or go with the $20 premium choice. I won't knock the place because the pours were 6oz sizes, but compared to other brewery pricing I would've preferred smaller sizes, a more universal choosing, and less dollars. Maybe that's just me... Anyhoo, let's beer. The names at Strong Rope fall into that eclectically odd yet comical category (as do most of the beer names found in Brooklyn). Here's what we sampled: Young Lion of the West Fat Man, Little Stout Falling Squirrel #17 Devil's Bathtub Defining Gravity Spring Fire I can't read that second one without my mind going to Chris Farley singing "Fat guy in a little coat." A great stout for sure and the only one you could tell the style from the name. YL(of the)W was a cream ale of solidness and my second favorite. Numbero uno came from Spring Fire (smoked blonde) with a powerful smokey aroma and taste, but had enough flavor that it didn't seem like you were just drinking smoke. Falling Squirrel (blonde) and Defining Gravity (pale ale with berries) also fit the beer bill. Unfortunately, the lord of the underworld and his bathtub fell a little short in their red ale attempts. We finished up our flight, bought a few stickers (with those beer prices I would've hoped for free, but it's okay) and went on our merry beer way. Overall, Strong Rope hits on most cylinders. It's tough to shoot a place on the premise of the mighty dollar, but it was a bit of a factor. That won't stop me from returning and truth be told, only knocks the review to a solid four stars. Pair it up with Threes Brewing and you'll have plenty to drink up in that part of this borough. read more

Strong Rope is a fun, small craft brewery in Gowanus. You can order by the glass, fill a crowler or growler, or get a standard or premium beer flight. I opted for the latter and mixed standard and premium beers. It's a little pricier than other craft brewers, but the pours are generous. There are cider, spirits, and wine offerings as well. They don't serve food, but you're welcome to bring something from a nearby takeout spot. There are tables and seating at the bar and along the counters. It's not as spacious as other breweries (this is Brooklyn real estate, after all). When it's crowded, though, there's not much to absorb sound and it can be quite difficult to hear your friends. I genuinely liked most of the beers. We tried a Pale Blue Dot (a delightful saison with blueberries and lavender), Sit Back Relax (solid red ale), Centennial Extravaganza (a piney IPA), Catch a Bad One (a satisfying stout). Most of the beers were relatively low in alcohol, around 5%, with the saison at 7%. The only beer I didn't like was a Falling Squirrel #20 sparkling ale, really watery and boring. The bartender was friendly and they have a unisex bathroom. I would definitely return for a pint or to try their different seasonal offerings. read more

Solid little brewery in Brooklyn, and when I say little, I mean TINY. I don't think I've ever seen brewing vats that small! Regardless, they make some great beers here! My friends and I stopped by on a rainy Saturday afternoon after being unable to find a seat at another larger brewery a few blocks away. Thankfully, while Strong Rope was also bustling, we were able to capture a corner of a long communal table for ourselves. We split the standard flight - 5 beers already indicated on the menu - since our biggest drinker was also our DD for the day. I think my favorite was the cider and the Spring Fire, which was their smoked light ale and tasted like bacon (!!!). Honestly, the smoked bacon flavor was probably why I liked the Spring Fire ale so much. My friends enjoyed the much hoppier beers, which was fine with me. There wasn't food on the menu that I noticed, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby if you get the drunchies! read more

A place to drink good beer And chat with friends. There's no food and maybe only one liquor option but around 10 different beers. They do flights of 5 beers. I opted for their mix and match flight and tried some of their seasonal and special brews (the latter being the better ones) The Lazy stargazer is definitely the best one right now. Its an imperial blond ale with strawberry and rhubarb and you can definitely taste the fruit but it doesn't come off as sweet. Plus its 9.5% ABv Id say the second best is the Wolf Blossom which is a double IPA. The flavor was bold enough to be the last beer in the flight and still stand out. The place was nice and quiet when I first got there with plenty of seats for parties of all sizes but it quickly filled up around 6pm and was crowded with people standing everywhere. They occasionally do live music and they have a weekly brewery tour too! read more

Was able to secure a barrel to sit at for three people on a Sunday afternoon. Drafts range around $6-9 depending on type and size, while flights are available as well. Settled on the Premium Flight ($20) - five samples of their more interesting brews. Found the "That Nunu" Stout and "Verdant Wolf" IPA to have strong flavors, as the others were more subtle. Unlike other breweries, this spot also has a full bar with local spirits and wine. No snacks to speak of here, although they allow outside food. Stopped into Strong Rope Brewery on Tuesday evening. A strong set of beers on the menu for a brewery that clearly places an emphasis on tradition and quality. Quality: Strong Rope Brewery has a set of dependable and tasty beers always rotating through the menu. Less interested in pushing boundaries, they follow a more classic approach, understanding there is a reason what is good is good. During my most recent visit I tried Porkchop Express Blonde Ale, Oast Wrangler Hazy Pale Ale, Red Badge Of Courage Pale Ale With Beets, and Fae Of Persica Kettle Sour With Peach. Not a bad beer in the bunch. I Think Fae Of Persica was my surprise favorite, as I am always a little wary of kettle sours, but this one had a nice balance and the peach was used perfectly. My least favorite was Porkchop Express, but I think that speaks more to the quality of the rest of the beers, as I would gladly enjoy the blonde ale on a warm day. Quantity: Most beers are 16oz pours, with only the barrel aged selections served at 12oz. Value: $7-$10 depending on the Draft Beer selected. Ambiance: Strong Rope Brewery sits between Gowanus and Park Slope in Brooklyn. It is in an area that is now populated with breweries, but this is one of the older ones. It was built into a garage-like space, so the inside area is relatively dark and small. The equipment and barrels are all in the back, several tables fill the center, and the bar sits near the entrance. They have barrels set up as high-top tables out front, in an outdoor area that has definitely expanded during COVID. Over the speakers they played Nas' Illmatic album in its entirety, before switching to Wu-Tang. Crowd: Pretty busy on Tuesday evening. They don't have a ton of seating, but it is fairly full every time I pass. The outdoor area was more popular on this evening, and nearly every group had a dog at their side. Service: Pretty standard COVID protocols, none of which impacted the experience. The woman behind the counter was great, very friendly and in normal times likely would have run around the counter to greet each and every dog. Cool little brewery right by Union St station in Brooklyn. Some friends and I swung by last Saturday after going to Circa (also a nice spot), and it was surprisingly not crowded! The space is cozy and is a nice place to hang. They showcase 10 of their beers on tap, and we had the option of getting a flight of #1-5 (~$15) or #6-10 ($20), which had more of a premium selection. My friend and I went for the #6-10 to split because go big or go home, y'know? My favorites in the flight were probably their Corn IPA and double IPA. Overall the experience was real pleasant and the bartender was nice. One note is they let you bring outside food in since they don't supply their own! BIG win in my opinion. We found strong rope one afternoon when my boyfriend parked outside of it - I'm not sure it's a very "hype" place but it is SOLID. They have very solid beers. They do not focus on just "in fashion" styles but there has been a great variety every time we've gone. They make great lagers which says something about the quality of brewing. Last time we went they had art and live music going on which was nice. The bluegrass was solid and the art creates a great vibe to hang out and have a beer. Great small brewery in Brooklyn! We came here before going to Kick Axe for some awesome beers. I got the weekend $10 deal -- a pint of pale ale and a glass of whiskey from a local distillery. Highly recommend! What really hit the spot was finding shelves of board games in the back corner. I remember regretting not bringing a deck of cards of something, but then found a huge variety of games in the back corner. We ended up playing banana-grams and Cards Against Humanity. One of my favorite views in Brooklyn, the space is big and serves great drinks. Little more family oriented

It pains me to give a poor review to a new local brewery, but my experience here disappointed me incredibly. This place felt to me more as if I had wandered into some beer snob's basement than into a burgeoning craft brewery. The service was brusque and arrogant - bartender more interested in hanging with/talking to his DJing pal, who was spinning loud, atonal tunes drowning out the sparse crowd. We got a distinct "why are you interrupting me/are you just looking for free samples" vibe when we asked a couple of questions about the styles on tap. I mean, we are very into craft beer and legit curious and felt absolutely no passion or interest, and were not made to feel like our interest in their products were welcome. I wasn't even physically comfortable - they have this lovely undulating wood bar, but its very high up and hard to comfortably pull a stool up to and get comfortable. In all, it just gave me the a vibe of a vanity project - someone deciding that craft beer is the latest trend or a new investment option - moreso than an authentic new neighborhood craft brewery option And you know what... I'd probably overlook all of the above if I enjoyed the beer... chalk it all up to the arrogance of brewing genius, and keep drinking. But the beers we tried were mediocre at best - both the Short Hopper Session IPA and the Clearing in the Bines Pale Ale felt were bland and unenjoyable. It's rare for a brewery to be one-and-done for me, but we settled up, picked up a six-pack and headed home. read more

Hot damn, yet another brewery to open blocks from home! They did a great job redoing this former Brooklyn Brine and former former Mile End food prep building. Really excited to see something like this to go into this portion of the Gowanus just off the restaurant row of Littleneck, The Pines, and Runner and Stone and 1/2 block from subway. This review is from opening day and the place looks awesome. The beer we tried (currently 8 on tap) was solid, and it will be interesting to see how this place matures over time.
