The home inspection we had done last week was conducted by Milind and I was present for the entirety of it. He was professional, courteous, patient, knowledgeable, and thorough during the entire time he inspected this house. I was extremely impressed with the inspection that George did in June 2015 on a house that I am purchasing in Falcon Heights. They showed up early for the inspection and were "herding" ants that were going in and out of the front door metal threshold as I walked toward the house. The inspection seemed to be very thorough, with everything inspected that could be checked and/or opened. George even spotted a problem with a basement bathroom fan being ducted into a large return air duct that went to the furnace. Unpleasant smells were being defused throughout the house. I got to go along as the inspection was conducted, and they frequently brought things they were finding to my attention ... before the written report was even sent to me. Very helpful to know of problems right away when I needed a little evidence to suggest that a lower price for the house was warranted. I have heard pretty bad stories about house inspectors. Based on my experience, you will get quality and thoroughness with Structure Tech, even though you may think the price is a bit higher. I did get several quotes for home inspections that were a little less money however after talking to the folks at Structure Tech and reading a few reviews online I felt comfortable spending the additional money. We're buying a new construction home in Eden Prairie and originally throught we wouldn't need an inspection (new home, new mechanicals, home warranty, etc.) but I'm glad we did. Nick Pickert identified several concerns that we were able to take to the builder to have addressed. We would have likely overlooked many of these items so his attention to detail was worth every penny. As a homeowner, allowing someone in your house is never a great experience when you are not there. Your hope is that they will truly show the house in a fair and objective manner and will leave your house in the same condition that they found it. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Tessa Murry performed an inspection of our house and told the buyers that our water heater was not working. When I came home, I found that she had turn the temperature down to the lowest setting. We also found that she inspected an exhaust vent by pulling off the animal protection grate and not replacing it. I can only imagine what else has been changed or affected by such a non-professional. read more

Really upset with our home inspection from Structure Tech. The actual inspection seemed to go well, with a seemingly thorough report developed at the end. However, we just moved into the house and found our central A/C unit leaking water everywhere, into the furnace and the basement. The inspector and report mentioned nothing of this problem, I don't think he even bothered to actually test run the A/C, as there would have been water present. We called an HVAC company to look at it and they were appalled that this was missed in the inspection. The unit has clearly been leaking for a long time they said, with water pooling up in the furnace, which could also ruin the furnace, which is only two years old. We now may be facing huge repair costs, when we paid good money for an inspection we thought we could trust. Really, really disappointed, especially with all the positive reviews here. read more

We were *incredibly* pleased with our experience with Structure Tech, and in particular, our inspector Milind Angolkar. Structure Tech as a whole was incredibly professional, quick to respond, and delivered on all of their promises. We would recommend the company as a whole -- we had gotten independent recommendations from both our realtor as well as some friends who live across the street from the house we had inspected. Both recommendations were spot on. The inspection itself was carried out by Milind Angolkar. From start to finish, he was exactly what we had hoped for in an inspector (and then some). He showed up on time, introduced himself and explained his normal process to us. Before embarking on that process, he made sure to ask about specific aspects of the home which we wanted given special attention. Little details like that mattered a lot to us -- he treated both us and the home as individuals. As the inspection proceeded, he was always incredibly patient both in explaining what he was looking for, how he was measuring it (we're both data geeks), and if there was anything not quite right, the severity and what we could do about it. In addition to his proactive explanations, he put up with many, many questions from us and offered each one a careful response. Along the way he even occasionally sprinkled in some tips on avoiding some of the minor issues with the home by small improvements or maintenance we could do ourselves. In short, he went above and beyond what his job required him to do. Two final details. First, we had the opportunity to see Milind interact with two contractors brought in to look at the sewer line. He was every bit as professional with them as he was with us, and helped explain/translate some of the things they were discussing. Finally, the report he prepared was thorough, well documented with annotated photos, and did not miss anything we saw or discussed during the inspection itself. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say Structure Tech probably saved our lives. Amazingly thorough!!! LOVE Structure Tech. And LOVE our agent, Marissa Skaja at Downtown Resource Group, for recommending them!! Backing up for a sec - we had a bad experience with a previous home inspection in another state - termite damage/past treatment missed, no warning about shredded air ducts and attic insulation or the 'on its last legs' a/c and hot water heater, not to mention the literal money pit in a side porch from a covered-up hot tub hole under some crappy decking, the electrical issues...the list went on and none of it was discovered during our so-called inspection. This time around, we wanted a deep and thorough understanding of the property and what we'd be getting into if we became the proud new owners. And we did! Lucky for us. With Structure Tech's fabulous report (including pictures and details on how to fix or maintain any and all issues), we went into the final negotiations of our home with eyes wide open. Through the painstaking, hours-long inspection of the property (that we and our agent were present for) we discovered that the old boiler was emitting dangerously high CO levels (our inspector, Jim Tobias, even had a different inspector come over to retest with separate equipment to double-check the levels), the asbestos-covered pipes were in need of abating, and that both chimneys were in such disrepair that they weren't safe to operate. Any one of those issues could've been life threatening. Thanks to Structure Tech (and our fabulous agent and the awesome sellers), we now have a safe and healthy home. Very happy we went with this company. Wife found them on Angies List with really good reviews and passed it on to me. I read the reviews here, saw that Nick's name kept reappearing, so we decided to go with the company and try to get Nick as our inspector. We did get him, and let me say that the reviews are accurate. Nick spent over 3 hours doing a detailed inspection. My in-laws and real estate agent was with us, and he took time to explain any issues or questions to everyone there! He wasn't only being professional, he actually appears to take pride in his job and quality. Every issue he found he provided us with options for the scope of work that could be done, and the extent to which it would fix the issue. Essentially we were able to gauge costs for reasonable repairs, which helped when we went into making a final offer on the house. We originally only had the inspection of the house scheduled, and it was $550, however during the inspection our real estate agent asked if we were doing a radon test, which we were not planning on doing. However, because of how well the inspection had been going, we felt the additional $150 was worth having 100% assurance on the house we were buying. Great experience with such a key step in the house buying process. Try to get Nick if you can, adjust your schedule if need be, we did. If you can't get Nick, be confident that whoever does your inspection, if they are from Structure Tech, they will be quality. read more

Structure Tech was recommended to us by a friend who used them (Reuben) about 5 years ago for their first house. We had Jim come out, and were very pleased with him! He arrived earlier than on time (he beat us there), got things started right away, was extremely thorough, and very professional. We would not trust another home inspection company!! Plus I LOVE their Facebook posts and blog posts - so helpful for home owners!! Another thing I really appreciated about Jim and this company was that they want to be RIGHT, but they aren't afraid to admit they don't know something. At one of our houses there were a different (cheaper) type of window that Jim hadn't seen before. He gave the builder the benefit of the doubt, told us what COULD be wrong with them, but then talked to a friend of his who's a window expert who assured us they were good quality windows. Very appreciative of his research and behind the scenes work for us. Ok another last thing I love...Jim is available via email, and is quick to answer any lingering questions we have weeks after our inspection. GREAT COMPANY!
