Best-in-class. Those are the first words to come to mind when I talk about Structure Tech. I first heard about them through my sister-in-law, who employed Structure Tech for their home purchase about a year ago. After seeing rave reviews of Structure Tech here on Yelp and on Google Reviews, I knew this was the firm to work with. It may sound like one of my relatives works there, but really, I have zero connection to the company. I just know a good thing when I see it and experience it. Structure Tech is not trying to be the lowest cost player in the market. But really, if you're buying such a huge asset, do you want to skimp on a bare-bones inspection, just so you can save $100? Structure Tech is currently charging about $540 (as of summer 2014), and they are worth every penny. Because they are best-in-class, make sure to schedule your home inspection with them the very minute after your purchase agreement is signed, because they are currently booked out about 3-5 days for home inspections. Since you have a limited window of time with which to complete your inspection, you should do your best to schedule with Structure Tech as quickly as possible. With the heating-up real estate market we are experiencing, home buyers are often forced to make snap judgments about whether to make an offer on a home. With so little due diligence on the front-end (e.g. we spent about 45 minutes at a showing in Eden Prairie, then placed an offer later that night), your home inspection is absolutely critical, for it's the time when every lump and wart of your property will be brought into the light. You can trust Structure Tech to dive into every nook and cranny of your home-to-be. For my recent inspection by George at ST, I was consistently amazed at the depth of his poking, prodding, and analyzing every aspect of the home we are under contract to by. The inspection took about 3.5 hours. As I understand it, their competitors in our market only take about 2 hours for an inspection. My realtor came about an hour through the inspection, thinking he would only be present for the final hour of the inspection. Well, seeing that things were going long, I could tell he was unaccustomed to such a thorough inspection. This was encouraging to me. George took dozens of photos throughout his inspection, many of which were included in the final 27-page report that was delivered as a PDF via email to me late in the evening on the same day of the inspection. Structure Tech encourages home buyers to attend the inspection, and I can see why. George took plenty of time to explain what he was checking out, what he was finding, and also potential solutions to troublesome areas of the inspection. Plus, he was funny and easy to get along with. It was obvious he is passionate about being a home inspector, so I knew he wasn't just going through the motions. Reuben Saltzman (co-owner with Neil Saltzman, who bought the business in 1997), writes an excellent blog at the Structure Tech website, and his work has also appeared at The Star Tribune. Reuben's insights are invaluable, and I plan to return to his work in the future, as it will help me handle some of the maintenance and repairs on my home. ST's inspection report has loaded me up with plenty of home projects for the months and years to come. They had great availability (were able to get them scheduled for Tuesday!), the inspection tech call me Monday to introduce himself, answer any questions I had, & was extremely polite & helpful!! The inspection report was in my email within a couple hours post inspection & was very thorough!! I was unable to attend so he went over everything with my realtor & was even a great sport about her recording him! I would definitely recommend this company!! Was referred to Scott Mahley (Structure Tech) by my realtor in whom I have 100% confidence and I was not disappointed. All of our contacts were business like,, friendly and very professional. Scott did what he said he would do, when he said he would do it. He was respectful of our property and looked for deficiencies that really matter. He found four that we both felt needed correction while our home was under its 1-year "top to bottom" warranty. Structure Tech's reports are easy to understand and grade findings based on significance. The report (via internet website) made it easy to pick out what you intend to request be fixed and then creat the repair list which can be printed or sent via email directly to a builder, owner or realtor. We hired Structure Tech to inspect a condo prior to closing. We specifically mentioned that we needed an inspection of the windows since we were aware that several units in the building experienced failure of the window seals. The inspector found a few minor issues. He mentioned that the paint was chipped in a couple spots on a window frame, and one of the windows was not fully opening, but otherwise no issues were found. We closed and moved in less than two months after the inspection. Soon after we moved in it became very apparent that most of the windows have failed. We were forced to replace 23 windows. I contacted Structure Tech and their argument was that based on whatever home inspection standards they are bound to, they are not responsible for window inspection. I did not bother to read the standards - my fault, but I believe that ethically they should have told me they would not inspect the windows when I specifically asked them to do so. I believe this company is not trustworthy and one should be cautious of their findings and limitation of the scope of their work. Disclaimer: they offered to reimburse me the cost of the inspection but I chose not to accept their offer. read more

My pre-purchase home inspection by Ed Draper with Structure Tech was very complete. He found an ungrounded electrical outlet, ceiling tiles made with materials that would be toxic if burned. As well, a sewer line inspection was completed. My father admitted this was the most complete inspection he has ever seen. An ordinary home inspection may be good enough to find major problems, but the Structure Tech home inspection can assist you as a new home-owner of things to keep up with to properly maintain your home. In fact, I would recommend a Structure Tech home inspection for anyone who owns an older home as you may find things that need to be repaired. read more

I hired Structure Tech because I saw that they had good reviews online and wanted to have peace of mind on my approved purchase agreement on a studio condo. The price of my inspection was $300 which was a reasonable price. Reuben carried out my inspection. He was friendly, punctual and, as other reviewers had mentioned elsewhere, provided explanations that I could understand about the plumbing/electrical as he did the inspection and photographed the unit. The report that he sent over on the same day was easy to read, well documented and included pictures and images to explain possible issues. When I researched them they have a 5 out 5 rating on Google with over 100 reviews. That is insane. We hired Structure Tech (specifically Duane) on the recommendation of our realtor and were extremely satisfied. Duane was extremely thorough and a great overall person. He encouraged us to follow him around during his inspection and ask him questions about what he saw and our overall concerns for the house. The purchase agreement our buyer signed with this company said that things would be restored to the condition prior to the test. This is not what happened. We had 162 holes drilled into our home and they were partially filled with substandard caulk that does not come close to matching the color of the house. If I could upload photos of the destruction this company did to our home I would, but I can't here. Buyer beware this company is not doing quality work!!!! read more

Even though no major problems were discovered, the inspection provided an insight into where builders cut corners to save costs and what we as home owners need to keep an eye on in the years to come. I hired Structure Tech to do an inspection of my townhouse. As a first time buyer, I had no clue what to look for. Reuben was my inspector and he blew all of my expectations out of the water. As he inspected the interior and exterior of my home, he explained to me in detail everything he was looking at. He also carefully walked me through basic home maintenance such as changing the furnace filter or refilling the water softener. I was frantically trying to take notes and he quickly told me that I didn't need to and that everything would be provided to me in the report.
