Great experience here. The ladies there make awesome and strong drinks, huge yummy chicken quesadillas, and friendly quick service. Too many bad reviews about this place. I had a great time seeing Pepper with my boyfriend. Only complaints are that it's super small. I wish it was a little bigger bar and seating area. The venue area where music is played is fine. However, they need better AC. The security guards were all fine, of course we got checked, and stared at probably because we look so young. One of the guards read my ID wrong and put huge black sharpie "X" on both of my hands before I could even ask what it was for. It was for under 21 guests. I had to go back and tell them that I'm not under 21. I went to the bathroom after and had to scrub my hands red to get the sharpie off. Be aware it's kind of in a ghetto part of Fresno but don't be fooled. My boyfriend and I came here for Halloween and we had so much fun. Loved our bartender, didn't catch his name but he seemed like he was having fun especially since it was Halloween. The karaoke competition going on was a cook thing to watch. Lot of dancing, only wish there was a little more room. We enjoyed the crowd of people and made a lot of friends. Definitely want to come back again for another event. read more

Male bartender has issues! He seems to get a high from choosing who he serves and when he serves. He claims to take orders on a first come basis, BIG LIE. He bit my friends head off after she politely asked him if she could get a drink. Mind you, we were waiting 20 minutes! It was a busy night, sure, and under any other circumstances it would have been fine if the bartender wasn't so obviously choosing favorites. He said he would get to her when it was her turn. Once she confronted him about not serving fairly he went nuts! She said nothing and for him it was like word vomit! Unbelievably bad customer service. Went to this place because at one point it was a destination for vegans. Turns out the website hasn't been changed in over a year and they no longer specialize in vegan dishes. Our vegan friends decided that they could make do with some on the items on the list and we decided to stay and eat. As we ordered a western cheesburger they told us they ran out of bacon. They were also out of chicken so no chicken tacos. I ordered chili cheese fries. When they came out they brought chili cheese tots because they were out of fries. I had to say no thank you because my recent experiences with soggy tots made me not want more tots. The bartender was upset because she had to figure out how to credit us on the register. I am not going to pay $8 for something i didnt even want. A normal place would have asked if the change was okay before they just brought it out. read more

Went and saw Hirie with a bunch of friends last night and I was seriously disappointed in the audio quality at Strummers. There were quite a few things wrong. The music was way too loud, the bass and the treble was turned up so high that you couldn't clearly hear the artists voices through the speaker system. Strummers... turn it the f down. Seriously. Louder is not always better. Hire someone who actually knows what they're doing when it comes to sound. My phone recorded and mixed the set better. Also, the guy in the booth completely screeched out the sound on the last song of the night. Strummers just flat out doesn't put on a professional level show. Do it better Strummers. Geez. read more

I came for the NAPALM DEATH / VOIVOD show. First time in Fresno. Review for the venue: The sound is awesome for the small space that it is. it was cool how they had the drink area closed off so that nobody in the pit would be able to knock your drink over. It was lame, however, how they had announced that "no rough-housing was allowed". That takes all the fun out of being at a metal show. Review for the grill: the guy guarding the grill side's door seemed annoyed to answer my questions. I only asked him two things and he got up from his chair and was pretty rude in giving me answers. Since he was the first person we came into contact with in terms of experiencing this venue for the first time, he gave me a bad feeling about the whole place. Our waitress was super nice. Got our order wrong, but still managed to get us what we ordered afterwards. I sat at the bar with my boyfriend and the bartender took a while to get to us. I'd say an extra 2-3 minutes than I expected, seeing as the bar wasn't packed. There was plenty of elbow room, that's for sure. I've experienced better. However, since Fresno seems pretty boring, I guess this place is as good as it gets. read more

This place is hit and miss..Some days the sound and atmosphere will be on pointt no complaints. Other less unfortunate nights. The sound levels will be pushed to high distorting the quality of the music.. Bartender are hit and miss as well.. The girl is quick and snapy, strong drinks. The dude is a TOOL wouldn't even serve me water even though I was the DD. Asked him repeatedly and he acted as if was speaking another language. He finaly said I could buy some water or go to the bar in the other room. I know it's not state law to serve water but come on.. when I ask for water I usually leave a tip knowing it's a hastle. Saw X tonight at this venue. Sound for the opening band as well as X was so distorted it was nearly impossible to understand any lyrics. Overall horrible experience. Impossible to tell if the bands were any good because they seemed to hide behind all the distortion. It was awful. read more

This is starline...at least I still call it that. The bar side/ grill side whatever you call it now is cleaner though, at least cleaner than what I remembered starline grill to be like. The staff is nice and the drink prices are par on tower bar prices. IT can get loud when there is an event next door but that is expected. last night i went to a concert and it was really fun minus when the security guard pushed me because i couldn't hear what he was saying. I understand getting physical with someone not complying but that was not me. I was simply enjoying my time and went in the wrong area by accident mind you i've gone here just a few times and the security guard (African american male) was telling me that i had to be 21+ i thought it was weird bc i had came from that area but i was gonna follow the rules. Then a white man with orange beard grabbed my wrist saw my band and shoved me into the crowd. My foot wasn't ready for a push and now hurts because of it. I hope he gets fired due to him being aggressive for absolutely no reason at all it was a bit humiliating when I was literally just about to walk anyways. I came here for the sole reason that The Black Dahlia Murder and Skeleton Witch were playing a show at this location. For whatever, reason they weren't playing in SF, so I found myself driving three hours out to Fresno. Thankfully, it was well worth the trip. Having never been to Fresno, it was still easy to locate. I really liked the design of the venue, essentially the show room and the main bar are split into two different rooms. It was a refreshing change from all the other venues I've been too that just have a bar stuck way in the back. Bar staff and security were all polite. It was a sold out show, so yes, it did get pretty unbearably hot during the show. I'm talking about a fairly low ceiling that was dripping with condensation from all the heat. To me, it's just part of the experience, and it was well worth it to see one of my favorite bands perform. read more

I've been here many times. Ran into a small situation recently and wasn't sure how it would turn out. I should have had more faith in Strummer's, because in the end they made it right, even though they didn't have to. More importantly, Strummer's is currently booking the best music in town. Where else can you find bands like El Ten Eleven, Neon freaking Indian, Com Truise, and Nosaj Thing? Future Islands and Starfucker have passed through at other venues in the last few years, but Strummer's is consistent lately. Hopefully they're able to continue booking those genres. The bar area. Great beer selection, they've had Founder's Doom, Firestone Parabola, and many other heavyweights, and they did 12oz pours while many other places only did 6 or 8. Sure, the bartenders might seem a bit impersonal and overwhelmed at times (like other comments on here state), but this place can get busy and I don't hold it against them. read more

Went here for a Black Dahlia Murder show the other night. All the staff was very nice and the venue itself felt very comfortable and personal. I didn't find them to be rude at all quite the opposite especially for fresno. Security didn't act like dickheads and the drinks were reasonable. Had a great time. Reason I didn't give five stars is because it got hot as heck in the venue. it was a sold out show but still guys gotta get some ventilation I could't see the end of the show because I couldn't breath must have been 100F+. Complaints aside I'd still go back again. Edit: they have updated their ventilation and shows I've been to lately have been comfortable. Ehh, this spot is alright. I gave Strummer's 3 stars instead of 2 because they have some neat film screenings and musical happenings that occur here. It's a pretty divey looking bar and not so clean. Service is okay. I haven't eaten the food, so unfortunately I can't comment on that. I wouldn't care to sit and drink or eat inside. The patio is a much better atmosphere. It's a cool venue if a special event or something is going on, but I would choose another bar for a regular night of hanging out. read more

An update on my previous review... So after being forced to move the chairs and tables to the back of the room, I then watched people during the show itself drag chairs to the front and stand on them, completely drunk, while the same security guard who wouldn't let us sit at a table against the wall on the side of the room watched on and did nothing about this behavior. Totally ridiculous. Makes sense for someone with a messed up foot who came early and sat quietly at a table against the wall be forced to drag their table and chairs to the back of the room where they can't see because "rules" but then allow drunk ass bitches to STAND on top of chairs and tables that they dragged wherever they pleased. read more

So last night, my boyfriend and I went to Strummer's to have a couple drinks. He left his card open at the bar. After we finished our second drink, he walked back to the bar to close his tab. I stayed at the table. He comes back so upset and said that the bartender JENNY, told him his card is closed out and not there. He asked her who she gave it to because the only other person would have been me, but I was sitting at the booth the whole time. Not once did I get up. She ended up telling him, "oh well it's not my fault, your card is not here!" So then we go up to the bar and I talk to her and ask her where the card is. She told me the same exact thing. "It's gone, someone close it out, it's not my problem." So I was explain back to her that it actually was her problem. She kept trying to cut me off when I was taking and ended up getting upset that because I told her not to speak over me. We told her SHE NEEDED TO FIGURE OUT WHO SHES GIVING CARDS TO. She ended up getting security and having them kick us out FOR HER MISTAKE. She told the bouncer that we were causing a scene. Well, hello! You said u gave our card to someone else. Anyway, we go outside and explain to the head of security what happened. In the middle of that, my bf's bank statements showed he got charged for 2 drinks. Which means she in fact DID have his card. We waited like 15 minutes outside by the door and she all of a sudden found it. Sketchy a** bartender I kept hearing throughout the night she wasn't giving people change back or anything. read more

This place is the most unprofessional business I have ever come across. I saw a show coming up at this place and called to confirm the band that was playing was ACTUALLY the right band. I asked specifically if they were canadian and if it was a reunion show and the stupid fuck I spoke to confirmed both for me without asking if that was actually the case. I ended up buying the tickets because hell yeah, I'm going to see my favorite band. Turned out to be an a completely different band and couldnt get my money back from either the ticket site, the vender, the venue or my credit card company. Now I'm stuck with an unused ticket because the asshole that worked there confirmed my questions without investigating further into the show. maybe you guys should train your employees to not be so impatient and rush people off the phone read more

Very cool venue. Small and intimate. Good sound system. They have a roped off bar in the main room and then a whole seperate bar where you can chill and order food, play X-Boxes at a few of the tables or sit on the patio. Looking forward to seeing some more shows here. read more

We brought our son to see a band he likes, at first it seemed like a dive bar (perfect for us but we had our son so we weren't sure what we got ourselves into) as we settled in we saw it wasn't so bad, we had some dinner on the food side which was perfect for us to chill until the band started. First, let me say I was a regular who used to come here back when it was Starline. Strummers used to be my home away from home I would go there every Tuesday for Karaoke and on the weekends. I knew just about every bartender and security guard there and things were cool until one day a female bartender which I believe her name is Cerda under poured and overcharged me on my drinks(I guess she thought she could get away with it because I was drunk and I wouldn't notice but my fiance noticed). My fiance called her out on it and spoke to the manager Gabe and he did nothing about it so she told him off and put him in his place. He couldn't say anything to her so he decided to tell me to leave and as I was out front he came out and told me to never come back trying to get a reaction out of me smh. I called and talked to the general manager and he said the overcharge must have been a mistake but he knows it wasn't. She was just trying to pocket the extra. It's cool though because karma is a bitch and it always comes back. I'll never go back to strummers but its cool there are lots of bars in town that have better service read more

This place is great for concerts! They usually bring in great Rock, Punk, and Metal bands. They bring in acts from other genres too, I'm sure. The food is great too if you order food at the bar. My only complaint is on nights where the concerts are all ages, after 9PM you can't go into the bar if you're under 21. The problem with this is that the merchandise for the bands is in the bar area, and sometimes the band members themselves too. read more

Security is the worst here. I would go here more often if it wasn't for the security team. They will steal your things and kick you out when you call them out on it. They got each others backs when they know they got caught! Then they all team up on you and push you out. This place is a great place and I love it there, but something has to be done about the security. They've been there so long that they're letting that tiny speck of power/authority get to their head. And they use it to steal from paying customers. Security: enjoy that little bit of power you have cause that's probably all you'll ever have. You'll be working security at little clubs stealing little things from customers your whole miserable life. Would hate to be you. OWNER: your security team is definitely costing you money. They are making your place look horrible(I'm not the only one complaining about them. Read other reviews). You've lost me as a customer and many more. Do a huge favor to yourself and get a new team. Due to my age, I would not go there again unless it was for another concert. Aside from that, the place was just ok. Old; no class. I guess I'm just beyond the crazy partying years. The bartenders were the best part of that scene. They were very attentive every time I walked up to the bar. They probably felt sorry for the straight-laced older woman, LOL, although I am a rocker! Saw Peter Murphy. Worse concert ever. Loved him in the 90's, but now he's just an old man, with a young band, playing Gothe music and doing Meth.
