Outrageously expensive. Service charge alone was $228! They cut holes all over our ceiling to try to find and fix the leak from upstairs. They did not know what they were doing. They told me that we had to take down the chandelier. Estimate to repair was around $1600. Another plumber did the work for about $400, And the chandelier did not need to be taken down! Do NOT trust Stuart Services, especially for AC repair. They treated us fairly in 2012 when we needed a hot water heater replaced, but when we called them for an AC repair, they charged us $249 to replace a capacitor and clean the unit. They also gave us an estimate for $7,700 to replace the existing unit. Problems were legion. First, they didn't actually clean the unit, just idly ran the hose over it. Had to pay another company to do it for real (with solution). Second, they replaced the capacitor without replacing the fan motor, guaranteeing both would burn out. Third, they quoted $349 for a new fan motor saying we needed another one of the exact model. However, another technician installed a generic one for less than half that price. Fourth, the $7,700 quote wasn't necessary according to another technician and, even worse, was a full $4,000 over market value. FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS overpriced. I have one estimate for $3,700 for such a unit and two coupons in the mail for similar ones for as low as $3,500. Do NOT trust this company and do not pay for any work without getting at least one other quote. Very sad considering I had such a good relationship with them at one point. read more

My boyfriend called them, On a Monday,as we needed a faucet change, before a guest arrived on Wednesday,on an old claw footed tub. He was unable to remove it, himself . Using the faucet he purchased , changing the two feeds to the faucet ,with brass and galvanized fixtures, less than ten inches worth of pipe and an hour's labor ,in addition to a mess left behind, the plumber charged $789. This caused unnecessary strife, between my partner and myself . My ac went out the day after Christmas. I called first thing in the morning and someone was here in 30 minutes . I was so pleased to see Mike he has been to my place before . I had an unusual problem of having a mouse in my outside unit which wasn't pleasant but Mike did an awesome job and rewired and changed some parts and it was good as new. I was having drainage problems in my bathroom so I called Stuart Services for help, based off high google ratings. Steven arrived to do a drain clean out and did not have all the equipment that was needed to do the job. A camera inspection is supposed to be included with drain clean out, which the plumber did not have. I was told that someone would have to come out the next day in order to finish the job. I called and asked to speak with a manager regarding someone having to come back out the following day. Donald returns my call and starts the conversation off with " yes I was told you had a problem with the $200 emergency fee"? No Donald I had a problem with the job not being done 100% in one setting. By the way, I was charged a $200 "emergency fee" for the plumber to come out in the middle of the day (3pm). I informed Donald that the job was not completed. Donald says"well the video inspection is complementary, you don't have to be inconvenienced and have it done tomorrow because it doesn't need to be done". Complimentary? Oh that's not included in the $343 price tag just to clean out my drain? Every truck should be equipped with a video camera if that is what comes with a drain clean out, right? Not according to Donald. Next day another plumber shows up and was not able to get camera down the drain "too many twists in the pipe". Told me to call the city and ask where the city clean out was. Guess it wasn't important because it was COMPLEMENTARY. What a waste. Won't waste my time with this "big named" company again I'll stick to the people that run their own businesses and actually care. They always show up when they said they will, and I have never had any problems with their work. Just moved back to the area, and needed someone to come out and figure out a problem with a light that kept shorting out. They charged 370.00 as a "diagnostic" fee... That meant that he crawled up into the attic and saw that a squirrel had chewed through some wires. (Took 20 minutes)..He then told me that it would cost another 778.00 to repair it. That it would take 2 men and 3 hours to fix it. Called someone else.. and paid a little over 100.00 to repair it. Terrible terrible service! Never waste your money! My air conditioner had an issue on Tuesday. But they sent me the technician on Thursday afternoon. The issue is that my AC outside unit did not work sometimes. Before they came, they told me that I have to turn off the AC whole morning (87F outside). After the technician came, he told me that he need to charge $250 for diagnosis. Don't believe their website, they said they only charge $50 for the trip. That was not the worst part. After he checked everything, he said that there was no problem with my AC, but he could not offer a warranty unless I pay $5,700 to change the inside unit. My AC worked well at that time. So I thought everything was good. However, the same issue comes again. The company said that they can do the diagnosis again with $450 only for diagnosis. They have the unprofessional technicians, can not solve the problems and just want you to reinstall the whole AC system. Terrible terrible service! read more

MUCH MORE Expensive than others-Specifically FOR AC. I had them come to refill the Freon. When called the lady said that $49 service call charge will be waived if the service is performed. Technician performed the service by adding Freon. But, didn't waive the service call charge. When asked, he said its only for other service. He was not interested in fixing the problems, instead kept on selling new HVAC system costing more than 8k. When I specifically asked for the cost to find out the freon leak in the system, he quoted $350 just for testing (PS. Others charge less than $150). and kept on selling new AC system. My AC is about 15 years old and doesn't warrant for replacement. Its been 3 months and the freon is going low again (When it was fixed by previos technician, it lasted for almost a year) I REGRET going with them for this AC. He also messed up the payment and I received a call from them 2 days later from the office and asked for the card numbers again. I have called my regular guys and their charges are much lower for fixing the issues (Not just adding Freon). SAVE YOUR TIME AND GET other guys give you a quote. read more

Two years ago we purchased a whole home air conditioning/heating unit from Stuart Services, and as anyone will tell you the cost will quickly get your attention. Wanting to protect our investment we purchased a Maintenance Package consisting of two inspection checks a year. This past Thursday Stuart Services called to inform us they would be unable to make the scheduled appointment, making this is the third scheduled appointment cancelled this year. We have been trying to get the Summer maintenance check since April, it's now August. It is obvious that convincing customers to purchase their Maintenance Package is just a gimmick to take money from customers, enriching the company and having not intentions on providing the services understood in their Maintenance Package. They were excellent in giving me the estimate showing up on time and it went down hill from there. They said," the job would be complete in several days". Well, that ended up being OCT. 25. Had an emergency electrical situation, to which they responded quickly, but to make the repair they came up with a pricey quote. I had to repair it since it was my adjacent tenant's apartment. I figured at that price it would be done right. I asked to make it completely safe. The old wire burned up due to multiple branch circuit install from the past. Well to fix it, running two 50 foot cables was all Stuart did. They used the same wiring that was part of the old burnt circuit that was in the wall and put both circuits in the one old junction box where the burnt cable had been. When finished, the GFI didn't work on one circuit. I paid the bill but wasn't happy. The salesman called and after a while agreed to replace the GFI to make the circuit safe for my tenant. We had a bad kitchen clog on a Sunday and Stuart Services was the only company willing to come out that day to help. Josh was my service technician, and he could not have been more professional. He worked quickly, cleaned up everything, and was done in about 30 minutes. He pointed out a couple of other things that may need service, gave me a quote, and said it would be good for the next year if I decided to go forward. While their pricing seemed a little high, this was a weekend 'emergency,' and with my work schedule, waiting until later in the week was not an option. So I was paying, in part, for convenience, and I did not have a problem with that. They do great work, give you a price upfront before they start, and are easy to do business with. read more

I think most of the reviews here are probably accurate: some of the staff can be very friendly (especially the scheduler/office staff). I've gotten two estimates from Stuart and used them only the first time, as not having A/C around July 4th isn't really an option. Both times, the prices were astronomical. After my second quote for service, I found a well-rated local Plumber to do what Stuart quoted at $2300 for about $1500. Stuart didn't give me any options as to size, volume, or brand for my water heater, and the price for install and some code requirements was tremendous. Assuming it's never urgent or dire, I don't think I'll be using them again. read more

They were prompt, courteous, professional and did the work quickly and well. My problem is with the way they do pricing and the prices themselves. $286 to replace a bathroom faucet, nothing broken just changing finishes in the bathroom, that took less than an hour's work. I wouldn't have scheduled service at that price, but they wouldn't give an estimate over the phone and then you're stuck with the dilemma of paying the $50 service call fee for nothing and wasting your time or paying the very high amount and getting it over with. I understand charging by the job rather than by the hour, but the receptionist should be able to give at least a ball park estimate over the phone if they go by the prices "in the book" and such a simple job shouldn't work out to almost $300 an hour. Horrible!!! They said twice now that they were going to send someone to fix our AC. On Friday, they said there was an emergency and asked us to wait until Monday. We waited until Monday and no phone call. We had to call them and then they said they couldn't come....first excuse was they were running out of daylight (it was 3 pm when we called) then the next excuse was they didn't have anyone to send. Then, I asked to speak to a manager and surprise surprise, the manager was not available either. Save yourself time and call someone else. I was told that no one could even look at the unit for four days unless we paid a $200 "Emergency Charge." I reminded the gentleman on the phone that we had just had the unit repaired by Stuart and did not feel a $200 charge was warranted unless the problem turned out to be unrelated to the initial repair. I called Stuart Services last week for a couple of small jobs, initially. Jimmy replaced a faulty outlet and then offered to look at the electrical panel for me. I'm so glad he did. My panel was filled with corrosion and rust. Somehow rain had leaked into the panel. He presented me with several options and I decided to have the entire panel etc replaced and scheduled the job to occur in a couple of weeks. Well, long story short, I called him over the weekend and he was able to rearrange his schedule and installed the new panel etc on Monday. I can't say too much about their services but I did pay 50.00 for a tech to evaluate the problem and tell me he needed to run a diagnostic test for 347.00 and if anything other than minor repairs were needed it would be more. Needless to say we said no thanks and contacted a self employed electrician. He came and " diagnosed" and fixed the problem in 35 minutes and charged 50.00 I give Stuart services 1 star for the pretty truck, nice uniform ,the colorful packet that contained my receipt for the 50.00 show up fee, and for Actually showing up. read more

Edward Faucett with Stuart Services plumbing division came out to provide an estimate on water heater replacement. During his evaluation, he noticed that a new water heater installed less than 5 years ago was installed improperly and that the connectors using improper metals are already starting to corrode. He provided an estimate for a new water heater in one area, as well as replacement of corroded connections on the newer water heater. We look forward to Eddie's team coming in next week to complete the work. We just bought this house and had a video inspection done that we passed with flying colors (not done by Stuart Services). One month in the new house and we had an issue with a shower and toilet backing up. We called Stuart Services and requested someone come out and look at our pipes. Scott showed up exactly on time and was very professional and congenial. He listened while we explained what was happening, he looked around the entire house to include checking the vents on the roof, and then decided on a plan to get our pipes working. He went to the office and got a machine to flush the pipes and went to work. Exactly what he said was wrong (no video needed) was the culprit. He called it a "muck" and you would not believe the amount of nasty stuff (described as a ball of grease and powder detergent) that flowed down our drain as he was flushing. It's been almost two weeks now and our pipes are flowing nicely. Thank you Scott, I really appreciate your professionalism and knowledge. Also, Stuart Services offers "Home Safety Inspection Plans" that cover certain aspects of A/C, Plumbing, Electrical, etc. We opted to get the Plumbing System plan which included a discount on the work we were having done that day. Recently we had a plumbing problem and Scott from Stuart Services arrived on time and handled our problems quickly. He even took on an additional issue about which we hadn't told the dispatcher. We had Stuart Services out in July to check our AC as it started blowing hot air. They were able to schedule next day service to check it out. The technician that arrived was on time, polite and explained the issues he thought were causing the problem. The technician serviced our AC that day (freon added and outside unit cleaned) and got it blowing cool air. We knew it would only be temporary as it had a leak and needed the coil replaced. One month later, it starts blowing hot again so I call to schedule service for a new coil. This was on a Thursday. I was told the earliest they could do it would be Monday at 8:30 - 9:00 am. So much for quick service scheduling. I wasn't thrilled since we have a 5 month old baby and the heat index is in the triple digits, but what are you gonna do, right? So I accepted that time and date. Monday rolls around and Stuart Services calls at 8:20 am to let me know the tech would be at our house in 45 mins to an hour. He showed up an hour later at 9:20 am. Then the single technician (maybe send more than one for a job that takes this long in the middle of summer) worked alllllllll day to replace the coil. In the afternoon, I was advised that the supply guys gave the tech the wrong drainage pan so he had to leave to get the correct one. More delay to get our system blowing cold air. We were not kept very well informed of what was going on while the tech was in and out of the house working. We were not given an estimate of how long it would take to complete. Hindsight is 20/20 so I should have asked when I scheduled the job. The technician finally left our house at 6:30 pm and at 7:00 pm the thermostat reads 82 degrees. Overall, I am very dissatisfied with the amount of time and lack of information in relation to having the coil replaced. For the amount of money we paid service with scheduling, expediency replacing parts, and being informed about the process was dismal. read more

New Years eve is surely a bad day to have electrical problem, especially when there is arctic cold heading our way. This company takes outrageous advantage of the situation by asking a $250 service fee not including any repairs, just to show up, "because it is a holiday week-end" as they say. Reading previous reviews, it doesn't look unusual for them to overcharge clients with urgent problems. I have called other companies who do not ask such crazy charges just to show up and without any guarantee of fixing anything. As far as I am concerned, they are on my "do not call" list.
