First of all, I am not a racist - that easy word to use when you don't agree with someone on something. The overpainting was horrible and the lines were uneven and wavy. No, I do not hate my neighbors. Don't know where he got that from. In reviewing the paint job again, I find the same overpainting (i.e., painting on the vinyl window frames) on my upstairs bedrooms facing the street. If I can see if from the street, I can't imagine what it looks like close. Yes, his price was a bit high, but I have always believed that you get what you pay for and though that with the high price I would be getting a higher quality job than I received. I will now have to hire someone else to remove this overpainting -- a cost which I will have to add to the high cost I already paid. Further, if you insist on hiring this company, I would encourage you to make sure that they put at least one person on the job who speaks English (or at least a little bit) other than the rep who finally showed. It's difficult to try to speak to someone about the work they're doing if they can't understand you. And no, that's not racist . . . I just wanted to be able to communicate with the workers. Make sure that you know what days they're going to be on the job and what days they're not going to be. They didn't show up one day and contend that they left me a text. Thing is, however, the phone number they have for me is a landline, not a cell phone -- something they never confirmed or asked about. If their call wasn't answered (even though we didn't receive a call and we were here at home all day), as they contend, they should have left a voicemail, as my landline does have voicemail. I could go on and on, but again, my reference is no reference at all and stay away from this company. Remember, Yelp is for all kinds of reviews, not only for positive reviews; and, if necessary, as a "buyer beware." I am not trying to ruin his business - just giving my honest review. I hired Stubbins on these reviews but, in retrospect, know now that there are many other painting companies out there who respect their client's property and do not call their clients names. I read through a few reviews and have to agree that Stubbins is NOT a texturing/dry wall specialist. Unfortunately for me they said they could do it and did a very poor job. I had to have my General Contractor bring in his team to fix the 15 plus holes (created by electrician). My only gripe with Stubbins is they said they could do it and charged me 3 times more per patch/hole than what the GC team charged. Recommendation to Mike and team is to be honest with your customers from Day 1. Tell me that you don't do it...would have appreciated that a LOT more than having to deal with it. Your team tried to fix it twice with not much success. Why the 5 stars then? A) because Mike agreed to pay for the GC to fix it without hesitation or issues. B) Great team and work for the remainder of the house. Overall happy...great value....they were considerably less expensive than the 5 other quotes I got and they did a good job. Victor is a great PM and the entire team was great. One more thing though would be it would be nice to not have that "rushed" feeling at the end....I caught a handful of mistakes that they did fix, but the last day felt like it was a mad dash to finish and that is when mistakes happen. We had done some remodeling work and hired Stubbins to come out and finish painting the interior of the house. Due to some miscommunication the walls actually weren't ready for them when they showed up (missing texture on new drywall). They were more than accommodating even though they had already scheduled my project and allocated workers to the job, they even assisted us in finding drywall specialists to get the work done ASAP. Long story short they came back two weeks later and completed the job within 4 days. I needed some painting done quickly and was fortunate to find out that Mike had some availability for the this past weekend. I had sent out several inquiries to other companies, but Mike was one of the first to quickly respond. This, I appreciated very much! He was able to provide me an estimate quickly with the photos and description of the job. I had to reschedule and move the work to the next day as we needed the fresh drywall repair to be dried. After a thorough search with multiple quotes, I chose Stubbins painting to paint the ceilings in our master bedroom and our living room. Both rooms had dark brown rough cut beams which I wanted all covered in white. Both of these rooms had high vaulted ceilings. Ramon stopped by the same day I called to give me an estimate. He promptly followed up with a written quote which was emailed to me. Their price wasn't the cheapest but I liked what I read about their service. They also were using top of the line Sherwin Williams shellac primer and paint. Gabriel was the lead painter. I can't say enough about his professionalism and expertise. The prep work to cover all the walls and the floors was very thorough. The only issue was that the old beams were very difficult to cover. After two coats of primer and two coats of paint, the beams still needed more paint. Mike and I then agreed on an additional price to add another coat and to complete the job the next day which was a Saturday. Gabriel was back promptly and added an the extra paint. He and his assistant then completed a thorough clean up and removed all of the debris. Although the beams still have a few areas of variance, I am convinced that our 40 year old beams are covered in white the best manner possible. Thank you Gabriel and Mike. read more
