I was referred to this place by my AAA tow driver Lem. I didn't know what to expect, but I am so grateful this is where I ended up. Totally stressed because my car broke down and I had a million and 5 things to do...they put me at ease. Ed, who I can only assume is the owner, found a way to make me laugh even though I was in a conundrum. Best I can tell, Ed is just like your Uncle who always has something funny to say and then tells you like it is, is the mastermind (great dude) Austin is the main guy to get it done. He is laid back and chill. He listens to what you have to say about your car then gives it to you straight. He actually fixes your car. My new get'ter done guy. Jennifer is the Chicago girl who keeps everything straight. She is super nice and makes it comfortable for other gals who come in not knowing a tailpipe from hose. Their relationship with a rental car company (Horizon I think) allowed me to have a car until my baby was ready. They have a special rate for Studio clients. Mind you, Horizon picked me up. I walked in and out with a car in less than 10mins. I have been looking for a mechanic that won't rip me off or try to get over on me because I am a woman, or price gouge because they think they can, create new issues which ultimately cost me more money. Hell, they even fixed what a previous mechanic messed up at no charge. They even washed my car... I was sure the dirt was holding it together but I guess I was wrong. My baby sparkles now. SCAM SHOP!!! BEWARE! See Jackie G's review -- my wife had the SAME EXACT THING happen to her almost verbatim as in Jackie's story. She got recommended this shop by a AAA tow truck driver, had ridiculously overpriced services recommended to her, etc. Once under the hood Ed then discovered the "broken water pump" that needed to be fixed for an additional $200 before it could be driven away. I couldn't believe when we loaded this shop on yelp and my wife's jaw dropped as she heard her same exact story told from someone else's point of view. Unfortunately my wife fell for all of it, and even more unfortunately Ed broke the starter to my wife's car while doing (or not doing) whatever B.S. repairs to the car. The car has now broken down 3 times with a broken starter since the initial visit a couple months ago, and every time she takes it back to him he's able to Mickey Mouse the engine back together to get it running for another couple weeks until it breaks down again. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from Ed and this s***hole shop. read more

Were you towed here by a AAA tow driver who claims this repair guy is "real honest" and "Does good work"? Does the Hawaiian shirt wearing repair man, Ed, seem like a real nice guy? I mean he has a cute dog, he insists he's here to help you out, and has been doing this forever, and he kind of seems like someone's benevolent Dad right? Well run, don't walk, to literally any of the repair shops that are literally everywhere in LA. Don't waste your valuable money, or time. My admittedly older and problematic 2001 Mitsubishi eclipse was towed here after it overheated and started smoking. I'd had a lot of car troubles lately and knew it was coming time to get a new car. I was towed here by a AAA guy who I'm now pretty sure gets kickbacks for sending people here. This place is as far as I can tell from the AAA website, not an AAA approved/endorsed shop. The problem was my radiator, and the owner, Ed calls me to tell me that it needs to be replaced, along with a number of other repairs, for $1200. I tell him no way is my car worth paying that much to repair at this point, so I'll eat the $85 consultation fee and have the car towed away, and either donate it to a worthy cause or trade it in to a dealership. He goes on and on in the phone call about how the car is really worth saving, and that I should ask my Dad or Boyfriend to call him so they can ~explain~ to me why these repairs are worth it. He did this repeatedly throughout our exchanges - apparently my female brain can't comprehend how to make my own decisions regarding my own car. I once again refused, and he offered to just replace the radiator and thermostat only for $500, to keep the car running long enough so I could find a new car. This seemed doable to me, so I agreed. He said the car would be ready at 5pm. He calls me back at 4:45 to tell me that he discovered the water pump was also broken, and I'd need to pay an additional $185 to fix the car. I tell him no, that $500 is the most I'll spend. He tells me, essentially, that I can pay him $500, but the car will be inoperable. Yeah that's right - $500 for what at that point was essentially a heap of stationary metal. I panicked and told him i'd call him in the morning. Was this real? Was I really going to lose $500 for nothing? I then discovered, via the yelp app (not the desktop search results) and some detective work, that this guy has a history of swindling people - There are negative reviews (probably around a dozen) dating back to 2005, and as recent as 2017, of this guy's incompetence and dishonesty. He used to have a location on 4121 Cahuenga Blvd, which is where many of these reviews are found. For some reason they are not easy to find by searching yelp.com on a desktop computer, but still visible in the app. (Some from other review sites are still in google search results though.) I ended up resolving the issue by agreeing to "sell" (I use that term loosely here) my car to this scumbag so I didn't need to pay the $500 I supposedly owe him for his work on my still non-functional car. I walked out without paying anything, but I lost the chance to trade in my car, or better, donate to an organization who actually deserves it. I reported him to AAA, as well as the tow truck driver who sent me here. When you're stuck at the side of the road, the last thing you want is to be towed into this snake pit. read more

Went there about a fuel pump repair. Already coded it and knew what the problem was. However was still told I would have to pay a non refundable $85 for them to code it too. Ridiculous since I only paid another place $20 to code it. Also, I had the pump already. When the owner Ed saw that he was less then enthusiastic about doing the repair. That of coarse is their prerogative. However, telling me that my buying my own part was stupid was both antagonistic and unnecessary. Looks like they're coming from Toluca Lake. Not sure why those reviews don't carry over. read more

I came here a few months ago for an oil change. When I got the bill I pointed out to Ed that he had overcharged me. Instead of paying back me the difference, he wrote on the receipt "I owe you one oil change." I came back a few days ago to get my oil changed again and when I showed him the receipt with his handwriting on it, he said "why would I give you a free oil change?" When I explained it to him, he paced around nervously looking at the ground and and then finally said "I'll have to think about it." Then, after a minute more of pacing around nervously, he tossed receipt back at me and said angrily "no way - have a good day." And he walked off. Now apparently his answer is to try to slander my religion. read more

Great service! Ed, Jennifer & the rest of the staff went above & beyond to help me. He keeps it real and honest. He took time to figure out my needs and he also explained everything. He gave me a loner car to use while my car was being repaired because I expressed to him I really needed a car to get around for my job and I just didn't want to pay for ubers (those rack up so quick $$!!). When I went to pick up my car, he wanted to show me my axel that was completely damaged (I have a very old car, '98 Honda Accord). And wow was it bad! The fact that I've been driving with it like this for years and am still alive today shocked me! It could've completely broke at any time and I would have been screwed! Someone has been watching over me. THIS is how you know he doesn't bullshit. For those complaining below about a charge of $85 for a full car diagnostics test to determine the problem... ANY automotive place will charge around the same amount. I've been to a few different auto places in the valley (Firestone, another place that was family-owned.. Our daughter had a breakdown on the highway and AAA towed her car to the nearest mechanic shop which proved to be Studio Automotive Center. It ended up being a blessing for her (and us). We live out of state and Ed, the owner, was very knowledgeable and respectful of her dilemma and our concern being long distance. He was aware of the need for our daughter to have a safe, functioning car while also keeping the cost as low as possible. The customer service provided was just outstanding. Very thorough with the services that my car needed. This place is better than a dealership.
