So glad Rodney is open during COVID, I really needed a cut! I've been going to Rodney for at least two years now, and he's been excellent every time. When he shampoos your hair, he does it with care and he even adds in a little neck massage, which feels amazing! I put full trust in Rodney to style and cut my hair. I went in one time and asked him to go crazy if he wanted, and I got my hair cut for the first time above my shoulders since I was maybe 4 years old, but I LOVED it. I got a ton of complements and my partner was a huge fan. When I have an idea or adjustment I want to make, Rodney always listens carefully and executes perfectly. When I have questions, he always takes the time to answer them thoroughly. I went to see Rodney two weeks ago, and he's put in a ton of effort to properly prepare his studio and services amongst COVID. I felt totally safe, and the things he's mentioned that he's done and that I've observed are: 1) There's no-touch hand sanitizer by the entrance 2) He takes your temperature upon entry 3) He wears a mask throughout the service (and you're expected to wear yours too of course, so ideally wear a mask that goes over your ears) 4) He has a UV light machine that he uses to sanitize his equipment 5) He has an air purifier running throughout the day and night 6) He shampoos your hair while wearing a face shield, and he sanitizes the chair and tools immediately after he finishes shampooing your hair 7) There's usually a second stylist, Gloria, and Rodney mentioned to me that she isn't planning to book services yet, so it'll just be you and Rodney in the studio read more

I searched through Yelp to find someone who can cut curly hair at a reasonable price and found so many rave reviews on him that I automatically knew he was my man, and I was right! He took the time to analyze my hair and talk to me about what I wanted, and then he went to work. My cut is Amazing!! I went from just past the shoulders to just under the chin. My hair can be tricky because it's wavy in the front, curly in the back, and it's really thick, but Rodney ROCKED IT! Let me start by saying... RODNEY IS THE BEST OF THE BEST!!! I was referred to Rodney by my mother who's been his client for over 6 years. She has always been raving about his amazing work and extremely friendly personality. I have never gone to him before since I usually tend to get my haircut at lower end salons like Supercuts and end up having to go back since I'm never satisfied with the work. Finally my mom suggested I'd go and try him out. She called him and he was able to book me for a 3 pm appointment today with no hesitation. As soon as I walked in he already knew who I was as he was expecting me, greeting me by my name. He introduced himself and offered me something to drink (he even has espresso)! As soon as I sat on the chair he evaluated my hair and listened to what I had to say giving me his best recommendation based on the shape of my head and hair type. Soon after he started he moved me to the shampoo station where he gave me a great long head and neck massage, and washed my hair with shampoo and conditioner without any rush. He then proceeded to move me back to the first chair and cut my hair. Since the get go I could tell he has outstanding cutting and styling skills with precise shear work. He then applied some cool paste and hair products that smelled amazing and voilà... Hands down best haircut I have ever gotten!!! ... Keep in mind he had a lot of work to do on my hair since the disaster of a haircut I received last time from my previous hair dresser. I felt the need to write a review because most of the ones below are a few years old and, especially for new people moving to the city, you need to know about Rodney! He's talented through the roof and BBR is a hidden gem. I went to Rodney for the first time 10 years ago based on a Yelp review that called him "my personal hair Jesus." After discovering this was true, I haven't been to anyone else! I have naturally dense, heavy, wavy hair. Rodney asked me, how much time do you want to spend on your hair in the morning? 10 seconds, I said. Do you want to be able to put your hair in a pony tail? Where on your head? Here, I said. Given all the variables, Rodney is somehow magically able to give me layers that make my hair shapely and leave me feeling beautiful. I have no idea how he does this, but I get compliments on the street for weeks every time I see him, and all this is working with what works for me. Because he's so masterful, he can really meet each person where they are. The prices are also very affordable: his is one of the best haircuts in the city but the cost is significantly less than salons that are all about marketing. Rodney is exacting about products and imports his from Sweden, so if you're used to paying top dollar for a haircut you can spend that money to take home top notch products and look even better. Appointments are easy to book online, BBR is conveniently located half a block off Market Street and Rodney is so gracious, lovely and fun. He's really intuitive with people and because I'm not chatty, he leaves out some magazines and just lets me be my quiet self. Per my roommate's recommendation, I've been going to Ed Rittenhouse to get my hairs cut and styled since I moved to San Francisco a few years ago. My roommate was right -- Ed is SUCH a gem. He's got an uncanny way of knowing what type of cuts and styles look good for different face types. He's great at taking the hairspiration (hair inspiration? does that work?) photos I show him and transforming them into cuts that work for me. I have been getting my hair cut by Rodney since I moved to the city and followed him here from his last location. While Rodney is an artist, he isn't a diva; he understands that I'm not really going to style my hair regularly, and he cuts it to look great with an air dry. Also, my hair isn't a type you find in fashion magazines (not straight, not curly, big widow's peak in the front) so I don't get to pick pictures out of magazines and say "make it look like that." I just tell Rodney what I want, and he does it! Also, this has got to be one of the most reasonably priced haircuts in the city. (for women, $50 for short hair, $60 for long) and he doesn't aggressively try to push products on you. Rodney is really just the best. Go see him. You won't regret it. Rodney is the bomb. I have been following him for five years now and for good reason. He gives expert cuts. That was obvious after my first appointment with him. My hair grows about an inch a month, and it did not need maintenance until 6 months in. His cut grew out that well! His customer service is absolutely stellar. He cares and wants you 100% happy. After my last appointment with him I realized my hair wasn't quite what I wanted.
