My long witch hair was screaming for a cut, so I searched for salons near me. Jackson Place Salon popped up as the perfect location, and that's when I stumbled across David and his glowing reviews online. I decided to take the chance and text him about my concerns to see if he was available. I had long hair for the longest time but wanted to try out a much shorter cut, so I mentioned I'm interested in a shorter cut with layers but didn't know what would go well with my long face shape. David responded super quickly saying he was available that night. When I arrived, David was welcoming and personable, very easy to talk to, easing away my nerves. I love that he is very honest with what would look good with your face shape and hair texture. He gave really good suggestions, and we were quickly able to decide on a layered lob. My hair turned out amazing, David takes his time styling for you after shampoo, wash, and cut. My cut still looks great after washing at home without styling in its natural fall over the past day. It was a lovely experience at Jackson Place Salon! I saw some good reviews and called David Bui to book a last minute appointment day of. He graciously squeezed me in as the last customer of the day. I showed a couple of reference photos of the types of long layers I wanted and he gave me just that! He respected the length that I wanted to cut and made some suggestions on the length and amount of layers as well. I would highly recommend David as he's professional, detail oriented, and friendly! My hairstyle/layers has been getting outgrown. I heard of great reviews from a coworker of mine, so I decided to pay David a visit. The salon is nicely tucked away in a nice building shared with a few other businesses. David shampooed my hair, cut it, styled it, and gave me tips on how to curl it. For the color, he's great at bringing out my natural tones. I have brown/auburn hair so he finds a goldish brown that is already in my hair and adds more. I went searching for a new salon close to the FiDi because my current hairstylist left me sitting in the lobby for 20 minutes, 2 weeks in a row and never showed. Once I read the reviews, I decided to give David a shot. I got an excellent haircut exactly like I described it to him. David is the perfect balance of doing what you ask of him, but also knowing what would make for a better look for your hair type and lifestyle. You have your stylist. You want them to listen to you, to be kind and friendly and to give you a great haircut and advise you about your hair. I had a good stylist who left and I have long curly hair that I have been letting grow but I was ready for a layering and clean up. I spent about one month cycling through all the reviews and salon websites I could find in the city. Back in the day, I would call a popular salon like Di Pietro and have a conversation with the person answering the phone bc in a hood salon, they know the stylists and help you pick someone but nowadays I don't sense that most salons have the staff or ensure that someone knowledgeable is booking appts. so you are mostly on your own. For me, I found that many salons and stylists had mixed reviews or were outrageous $$$ and if the reviews are not consistently excellent why would you think to spend $$$ After some time, I found David Bui's name and salon and his reviews were all excellent and he also specialized in longer curly/wavy hair so I made an appt and I was so happy I did. I felt welcomed, he listened to me and what I wanted, he was super friendly polite professional and sincere in wanting to make me happy with my haircut. He cut away the poof and have the layers and trim I wanted. Most people want to have a go to stylist they trust and feel comfortable with which is not easy. Many salons have closed so ai think there are people looking for stylists to go to. The salon is in a really nice building, they have street parking right outside and I was able to find parking immediately. They even had some holiday snacks and libations. I left feeling happy with my cut and very comfortable and thats really important to me because I know what I want. David is delightful and did a great job. Backstory, I've been on the lookout for a new hairstylist since my stylist moved away to another state about 6 years ago and haven't found one until today! This is so unbelievably overdue but this review is for David! My full hair color change and haircut was over a month ago and I'm still loving it now as much as the day David did his magic. It is so so difficult to find such genuine, kind, and talented hair stylists like him in the city. This review is for Samara. I have been getting my haircut by Samara for over a decade. I started with Samara around the time I started working in the Embarcadero Center and she was at Spargo, the men's salon on the gallery level of my office. I followed her to Jackson Place Salon when Spargo/Excalibur closed just before the pandemic hit. For those of you who are not familiar, Spargo/Excalibur was a salon focused on men in the Financial District. Samara's clients there were mostly, if not exclusively, men. Samara is a top notch stylist and is without question the only person from whom I have consistently received a great haircut over the years. (I stopped going in for 2 years when I moved to the South Bay for a new job, but came back when my next job was back in SF.) Simply put, she knows men's hair and I cannot recommend Samara enough. Here are a few reasons I continue to go to Samara: She is meticulous in her craft. She is always professional in her interactions. She took the time to get to know me and my preference: She keeps notes on how she has cut my hair previously. She gives thoughtful suggestions as I navigated my changing hairline from being in my late twenties to late thirties (i.e., thinning, balding, whatever you call it). If you are COVID conscious (which I am, with an unvaccinated 7 month old kiddo at home), rest assured Samara is careful. Re Jackson Place, the salon is situated in the courtyard of a rare brick building with a great little sandwich shop out front (stop and get lunch) with natural light, beautiful palm trees, and provides a relaxing environment. First review ever. But true blue. Yesterday I had a balayage coloring treatment done for my asian-blonde strands which have been abandoned for quite some time. I saw David just in the Nic of time before holidays. The Coloring treatment had magnificent results done by DAVID BUI at Jackson Place Salon. Lighter hair, lighter heart. Where I once had my natural black roots, he took it maybe a few levels up to blend and melt the effects to create an Amazingly natural blonde ombré look with some velvet rich browns to balance out the pigment of my high and low lights.
