Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! On the recommendation of my friend, Rich, I walked through the front door of Belmont Hardware late Friday afternoon this week before Christmas. Under my arm was a brand new Baldwin Reserve entry lock set that I had purchased at a big box hardware retailer and had shipped to my home. I had attempted to install it and though I am mechanically inclined and can do most repairs around my home, this lock set had me baffled! I was greeted with a smile by Jack and when I asked for the expert on all things lock related he directed me to Samantha. I'd come to the right place! I explained my dilemma and stated my wish to have the lock set re-keyed to my existing house key if and only if we could solve the dilemma I faced while attempting to install this new premium front door lock set! Samantha unboxed the set and looked over the components as I explained my frustration with attempting to attach the exterior handle. After looking over the parts, Samantha scratched her head and we both laughed! I didn't feel like such a fool as Samantha couldn't figure it out either! Samantha got on the phone to the Baldwin "go to guy" and he walked her through the process solving the mystery and explaining what was not explained in the printed directions (in both English and French!) that came with the lock set. Problem solved!....well, maybe! Samantha then proceeded to re-key my lock and with a smile said, "No charge!" Now that was over the top! Not only had I taken time from her to solve a problem on an item that I had purchased elsewhere but she laughed and said that we had both learned something! I insisted on paying the re-keying fee and had a wonderful conversation with not only Samantha and Jack but also Colleen who had watched the drama unfold. Bottom line: If you desire to have first class service, with compassion and a smile, you have come to the right place! My experience was more than the five stars allotted and I will spread the good news to all that Belmont Hardware is the place to go! Merry Christmas! Gratefully, Mike H. This store has plenty of upside... wait, no, just one upside: lots of selection of knobs, pulls, etc. etc. The downside is that the people who work there are AWFUL and rude. Beyond rude. Like, slam a phone down on you and yell at you for calling back rude. Note to Belmont Hardware owners: your staff sucks. They are the same "bros" who will give you the eye if you dare step foot on the part of the sidewalk where they're skating or rummaging through a garbage can, or what have you. They are rude, poorly trained heathens. Get rid of most of them, or all of them - your choice. For as nice as your selection is, your staff completely ruins the experience. Wow! I never thought I would want to give negative stars, but if I could I would..... My husband just spent an hour and a half trying to get a lock set for our door. The staff is RUDE AND ARROGANT and could care less if you bought anything or not. Prices are high and extremely unreasonable. So why shop here? We gave these guys another shot because they seem to be one of the only places around. This staff is beyond rude and arrogant. They started out by insulting our contractor because he didn't like Baldwin. "He probably doesn't know how to install it" they said. Oh really? The contractor with incredible recommendations and years of experience building building custom homes knows less than the punk kid working at the hardware store? Who are these idiot fooling? We have bought a lot of hardware at this store, we recently went back to purchase new hardware for our front door. Their door was locked and when a asked a person inside by shouting through the door they told me to make an appointment. I understand things have changed with covid but there was no one in the store other than sales people. Anyway I made an appointment for the following week, knocked on the door and waited till a salesperson opened the door and immediately said.."do you have an appointment and if so use the hand sanitizer" referred me to Lefty, some old, grumpy guy, who had no interest in helping me,suggesting I go to Home Depot or send my contractor to purchase the hardware. This is a multi prong review. This store is in a good location and has an excellent selection of hardware and faucets next door. I spent a few thousand on hardware and plumbing fixtures last month. Xenia in plumbing was great and very helpful. On the hardware side......"Lefty" on the other hand treated me like I was wasting his time. I was returning samples (complete and in tact with all parts and labels) to the store and was going to place an order for a few thousand dollars. I've never been treated so poorly in a store! I'm very non-confrontational and I even asked him what I had done to make him so angry. He said he didn't like having to solve "someone's problems." Wow, nice. I If you don't want to help people get another job.Way to put the "service" in customer service. He dismissed me and said he had to answer the phones. Then I realized it wasn't just me based on how he was talking to people on the phone. This is a guy who should not be in a service job, especially when customers can go right to the internet to buy what you're selling. Anyway...... A very nice Asian lady came to my rescue. I want to say her name was Sharon or Cheryl. She apologized for his behavior and said she was happy to help me. While I was working with her I noticed there were 2 other people who were waiting for her help and avoiding Lefty. Obviously I'm not the only one who had a bad experience. Ended up getting great hardware and an awesome faucet on time and on budget, so ultimately I'm happy but I wouldn't sing their praises. read more

This is nirvana for pocket door hardware, entry sets, door knobs, cabinet pulls, door stops (floor-mounted or wall-mounted), door bells, towel bars, ironwork to make your garage door look like a "real" carriage door, etc. There are rows upon rows of sample boards from some great brands --Rocky Mountain Hardware, Stone River Bronze, Baldwin Archetypes (and standard Baldwin), Ginger, Emtek, gorgeous Italian accessories by Valli and Valli, etc. They can also order Haefele BluMotion slides for cabinets. Ooh! Nice. :) There are plenty of in-stock cabinet pulls, hinges, door stops, etc for those quick "I need it now" projects. Their "I need it now" selection was just fine for our floor-mounted interior door stops and exterior patio door stops. If you were expecting a lot of hand holding, you're probably going to be disappointed. This is more of a Tim-the-Toolman place with a selection that shows a great design aesthetic. All of the guys really know their stuff. But, one stands out from the crowd. Travis can tell you why you should/shouldn't get that awesome hoo-ha you've had your eye on. And, he'll be very upfront about lead time and cost. He seems to have a crazy encyclopedic knowledge of the product lines. 3 out of 4 of my orders came in right on time. We ordered some great hand-made pocket door hardware from Rocky Mountain from these guys, and some cool Baldwin archetypes stuff. I had to chase the status on the one order that didn't come in on time -- my entry set -- which sort of irked me. Word to the wise: Ask what sort of discounts are available. They'll help you find the best price on anything. And, if you're working with a contractor, make sure you let them know. If your contractor works with Belmont on a regular basis, they might pass along his discount to you. They are open on Saturdays and (gasp!) Sundays. I love that. read more

This isn't about their store but service which matters the most. You can buy what they sell online for way better prices. Staff are rude and jerks. I had called twice and showed up in person to get them to service a multipoint lock. The day they promised to come, they didn't show and wouldn't answer or return phone calls. I was never rude to them once. Duck these guys. Eventually, I just called Hoppe and the tech walked me through over the phone and fixed the problem. Saved me money. read more

The selection is superior to any place I've ever been with regards to hardware pulls etc... But those guys who work there couldn't care less about helping anyone. All the people I saw there were on computers and chatting up other guys and talking sports. No one asked if I needed help, no one even acknowledged me for 20 mins. I decided I'd rather burn gas and go somewhere else. In these times, ignoring patrons, potential patrons is stupid and irresponsible. I'll never go back nor will I recommend them. Lucky for me, Veronica answered the phone when I called last week. I was attempting to see if they had stock of a certain color & style knob. Veronica was SO patient and helpful on the phone. She guided me to view the product options online before making a long drive to the showroom. I ended up making a purchase by phone before even coming in, thanks to her guidance. Customer service to that level is becoming increasingly rare; I really appreciated her kindness and willingness to go out of her way to patiently help me. Don't let the exterior of this store fool you. Belmont Hardware is nothing like a mom and pop version of Home Depot or OSH despite the wheelbarrows out in front. The store is actually divided into 2 parts with completely different entries - the left half is more nuts and bolts traditional, kind of like an Ace Hardware. The right half is actually more like a showroom of door hardware, cabinet pulls, towel bars, and random knobs galore. They can special order parts, too, many that are metric or European. My husband and I went to Belmont Hardware looking for towel bars for our new bathroom. We were greeted immediately and I just can't say enough about how friendly and professional the customer service was. I have had a great experience so far at Belmont Hardware in Belmont, CA. I believe there is also a store in San Jose. I am reviewing for door hardware only. I haven't used any of the plumbing/bathroom hardware from Belmont. I first went to General Hardware in RWC and had poor customer service. The salesman was not able to explain much and did not seem knowledgeable about the products. Since I was buying a fairly large amount of door hardware for a remodel, I decided to try Belmont. Although farther away from me, I was happy I made the decision. When I first entered Belmont on a weekday morning, it was very busy. I did initially have trouble finding someone to help me. If there is one piece of feedback I would give the store, it would be to have someone greet the customer and tell them someone can help them soon or maybe give out numbers when it is busy so folks don't feel ignored when they walk in. After a bit, I got help from Kayla, who is the store manager, and she is fantastic! She is knowledgeable and friendly. She was able to show me many samples on the floor and explain differences in pricing in a product line. I had some specific products that I had model numbers for and she was able to find those in the computer and show me samples on the floor or pictures on her computer, and give me pricing. She never made me feel bad about my lack of knowledge about various products. At the end of my visit, I left with a preliminary quote of everything I thought I needed. I went back to my project, double-checked everything, and communicated via email with her with questions and to finalize my order. Kayla was extremely prompt and responsive on email as well. People like her really ease the difficulty for newbies like me who have never purchased hardware before. One last thing is that the showroom at Belmont has many more samples on the floor than the showroom at General Hardware. For me, that was nice since I'm not experienced. If you know exactly what you want to buy, General could be ok. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother. Go straight to Belmont. read more

This review is for the "bath & faucet" side of Belmont Hardware on ECR. The first time we walked in, we were looking for kitchen sinks/faucets and Xenia helped us. She was wonderful: answering all our questions, providing us with manufacturer brochures. She was very tolerant of our children - particularly our toddler, who wanted to sit in the bathtubs. Unfortunately, we went in a different direction on the kitchen items, but Xenia was always helpful and responsive during follow-up. Months later, we went into Belmont hardware when we were desperate for a valve for our master bath shower. Diana helped us this time, and our experience was just as professional and pleasant as with Xenia. Diana had the valve in stock and then talked us through an array of options for our shower system. Diana was super knowledgable (and also tolerant of our children) and guided us towards a Rohl system that we purchased through her. When we changed our mind a week later about our shower set-up, Diana gladly exchanged some items for the new 2-valve system. She made it very easy and a pleasure. I can't speak to the knobs and hardware side of Belmont, but I can say that the two people I've worked with in the "Bath" section have been excellent, and I'd recommend working with them to my friends. read more

We ordered handles, hooks, TP holder and other items from here. To be fair the clerk was brand new (it was his first day), but after assuring us the order would arrive within 3 weeks and then eventually receiving it after 8 only to discover the entire order was wrong (color and finish), we were not off to a good start. The order was re-submitted and 3 weeks later we received all the wrong things again. Next time after calling 2 weeks after re-re-placing the order we were advised they had 'forgotten' to do it...so here we are - 4+ months on and we just received the items! Put it down to an inexperienced clerk, a premium Italian company supplying the parts, or just poor management but the store did not do a poor job. However...they have the best selection in the Bay Area and can get pretty much anything you need, the prices seem 'OK' and the staff are pretty helpful at finding you the right parts for the job. So, 3* as they need to really improve the customer service and order management, but have a great range. read more

First off, there is a bewildering amount of hardware options out there, and this place can put a strain on you if you're easily overwhelmed by so many options. That said, ask Kuwan for help - he was very friendly, super helpful, had good advice, and got us out the door with everything we needed, including lots of extra screws just in case. While you could easily spend a fortune here, they do have some good looking and affordable styles as well. We managed to get out the door spending less money than we expected to. I notice some people seem to have given this place bad reviews because they seem to have confused this with a general hardware store (like Ace Hardware). To set the record straight, this place specializes in cabinet/furniture hardware, ie. drawer and door pulls. If you are remodeling your house, you will definitely want to check this place out. read more

I recently stopped into the kitchen & bathroom showroom on my way to search for a doorbell next door and I'm glad I did. I was feeling overwhelmed and ignored at the previous stores I had visited to look for plumbing fixtures so meeting Diana was fantastic. She is not only friendly but extremely knowledgeable so I was in and out rather quickly with an estimate. Once I placed the order, all the items came in as expected, on time and a few earlier! The name of this business is a bit misleading you might conclude it's a microcosm of a Home Depot or Lowe's or ACE, etc... Let's just say...this is not your dad's hardware spot for just stopping in to pick up nails/hammers and get keys made!! (You COULD do those things here....but I'm just sayin' there are more compelling reasons to visit!) ** In my opinion, Belmont Hardware should rename itself "Great Gobs of Knobs" or "Knobs R Us" or "We can HANDLE you!!!" .BECAUSE...they have 1000's of amazing door knobs, kitchen & bathroom cabinet/drawer knobs/pulls!! It was a gorgeous sight... to behold all of the decorative door knobs/pulls mounted on the walls...pretty maids all in a row kinda thing!! ! (Ceramics and crystals and wood nobs...oh MY!) They even carry the elusive and coveted Schaub line! Woo hoo!!! (Note: I'm not some Desperate Housewife wannabee with nothing else to do but wring my hands in mock agony about the "right" counter tops, window treatments and organic lighting options...like I could give 2-s***ts about this type of stuff! Except...for when it MATTERS...or when I'm impressed...enough said. The customer service was great! Got waited on by the boss man himself (Merci, Brad) I found Brad and his crew very easy to work with...competent, pleasant, the whole 9 nine yards! I am writing this review while I am ON HOLD to wait for someone to help me sort through a messed up order that should have been very simple and straightforward. Incredibly, I am spending $2K+ for some door hardware that was promised two weeks ago. Only some pieces arrived, some as it turns out were never ordered in the first place, and some are in transit (supposedly). These were identical standard locks and hinges for French Doors, nothing out of the ordinary. Isn't this their business? No one seems to know what is going on whenever I call. In the future, I will definitely go back - to LOOK, NOT BUY. Find what you want there, then go somewhere else to do business. These guys are incompetent and don't care. Still on hold. read more

maybe its because i really hate what the home depots and lowes are doing to the contracting business (selling subpar products as cheap as possible while limiting your options as well) or maybe its because i actually understand how the contracting world works... but i love this place. its quite odd how people feel entitled to four seasons level service everywhere you go. if you want someone holding your hand through the process while serving you lattes, hire an interior design firm. let them charge you a premium for the service they offer. for the rest of us, let us get the work done. we happened to stumble on this place and i am extremely happy we did. no price tag? yes, some place you need to get the more current pricing. infrastructure not to you liking? then go to home depot where you have inexperienced, underpaid staff selling you crap materials, but have the latest in checkout technologies... including self check out! (since human staff members are expensive). youre getting quotes. simple. you tell them what you want, how many and they check current pricing. this place has the most extensive selection pulls and knobs ive ever seen. from your semi standard stuff to really specialized and of course expensive. need some ranch door hardware? yes. need a pull in the shape of a butter fly? yes. have the need to tell these guys thats been here for 75 years they need to change their name because you got confused? I have been going to this store for 30+ years and was generally happy with the service. Apparently, something has changed. The problem...the staff, particularly the young "cuties". I had to nearly beg to get someone to help me and even then it was if I was putting them out. They're prices are too high and there are plenty of options on-line to find what you need. Its too bad, those of us who remember the old Belmont Hardware wish the old staff would come back, management needs to train their younger staff better in the art of customer service, not customer indifference. What a horrible experience. I needed a top-of-the-line lockset for an urgent project and heard this was the place to go. When I called and asked them to price the lockset for me and find out how long it would take to ship, they didn't call me back. I called them again and they said they'd been too busy to find the information for me. I asked them to do it again, and they promised to call me. No call. When I called back the third time (now 4 days after the first call), I had to chew out a representative over the phone to get him to call the supplier while I waited on the other line. It took 2 minutes. How hard was that? So I ordered the part(s) and was told they would be shipped 2-day air and would arrive the next Monday or Tuesday. This was important since I had a time-urgent job and the lockset HAD to be installed on Wednesday. Late on Tuesday when I didn't hear back I called them again and they told me they had no idea when it would arrive. They also assured me that the person I spoke to the previous week had told me that it would take 7 business days...now, it's one thing to not call me back, and another thing to blatantly LIE to a customer - I had written down the shipping time during my previous call so I knew the 7 day estimate was a simple diversion tactic...and a lie. I'm still waiting for the damn lockset, and am pissed about the neanderthal customer service received. I'd recommend NEVER buying anything from these jokers if you don't have to. read more

Okay so I was debating on whether or not to give 4 or 5 stars. The 5th star was because the service was good, quick, and cute, just like I like it. Haha. I called up another Hardware place before I called this one asking about making a duplicate key, the place that was .2 miles closer to my house did not make keys so I called Belmont Hardware. They answered on the 2nd ring, always a good sign, it shows that they are somewhat busy, by not answering on the first ring, and it shows they don't make their customers wait. I like that. I'm all about top notch customer service. "Yeah, we can make a duplicate of most keys." "It's just my house key." "We should be able to make that copy of your house key for you." "Cool. About how much will it cost?" "About $1.69 or $1.85, somewhere around there." Perfect. I was expecting it to cost about $2. Both prices he gave me were under my expected price. I drive there, ample parking on the street. Nice. The store is beautiful inside. Their selection for fixtures and such was vast. It made me want to change the numbers on the outside of the house and buy new handles for everything in the house. Seriously, there were these drawer handles made from wine corks that were adorable. Can you tell I'm slowly, but surely turning into a wino? ;D It took a whole 30 seconds to make my key and the young man who helped me was very polite. And he was easy on the eyes. Such a cutie. I think all the single ladies in or around the peninsula should go in and have him make duplicates of all your keys. I think his name was Brandon. With that, I give my 5 stars. On the other hand, the selection of handles is beautiful - all different kinds and types and styles and quality. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! I wish these guys cared more about the general public then contractors. First off I had to stand in line for over 20min just to ask for item prices. THAT'S RIGHT, THEY DON'T HAVE PRICES ON ANYTHING. I wish I would have worn a San Carlos Yuppy outfit, slipped on a pair of heals, and worn A swanky handbag, then theses guys might have treated me like the other women they were bending over backwards for.
