The most horrific service today for a shop that specializes in high end doorknobs and such. While I realize you close at 3 today, it's 3:03 pm and I am already in the store to buy one little cabinet knob because in my $500 order with you I missed one. So I know what I need, where it is...and you don't want to sell it. If I can return the entire Oder Tuesday am and use one of your competitors I will gladly do so. I am headed now to check Amazon which I originally did not do in trying to give business to a local shop. After just returning from the store, I called in with a question on a tub drain. I was put on hold at 4:50pm. At 4:59pm I decided to hang up and call back in before they closed on me. No one answered the phone at 4:59pm. These guys were going to leave me on hold and just close up their shop. The only person with any talent at this store is Marci. Everyone else was hit in the head with the dumb stick. If it wasn't for the good service I received from Marci, my review would be only 1 star. read more

I love it that they are local and close to my house, but I haven't had good experience with the knowledge of the sales people. For example, I purchased a palm sander and a lady sold me the wrong sandpaper that goes with it. I don't get the negativity. I visited Belmont Hardware today looking for cabinet hardware made in the United States. I was told (by an employee of another store) that it would not be possible to find hardware made in this country. Well they were wrong. A very helpful, knowledgeable, charismatic person at Belmont Hardware showed me several domestic product lines and helped me find exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be more pleased. This is THE place for hardware. Don't even bother shopping around because BH carries everything you will find in other stores and then some. read more

I've dealt with Belmont Hardware over the last 3 years for two different remodeling projects. I agree that they have an amazing selection of knobs, pulls, handles--everything for cabinets. But their customer service needs a major overhaul. Today, for example, the two employees who helped me gave me only cursory information and acted as if I was annoying them with a couple of simple questions about the cost of two different knobs. We were referred here by our countertop company. They had a huge inventory. The owner stopped by to talk to us twice while we were there and everyone was very friendly to us and our dog. It did take awhile to get help when we needed it, but when we did, folks knew what they were talking about and we found great cabinet knobs. I recommend definitely going here to see the selection and get inspiration. That said, the selection trends toward the traditional, not the modern, so if your style is modern you might want to try elsewhere. There was a LOT of stainless steel handles that after awhile just all looked alike. We wanted something that was unique but not ugly. That took awhile. read more

While you will found many of the basics at this hardware store... what they really specialize in is handles and knobs. My wife was recently redoing her office in an... well, let's just say, "unique" design. Even though the overall design was out of the ordinary, Belmont Hardware has some very rare-looking knobs that fit the bill perfectly. They must have something like 1000 different options. We remodeled our bathrooms earlier this year and I search high and low for drawer pulls that I liked in the finish that I liked. A lady at Restoration hardware told me about this place. Quite a selection! they have drawer pulls, towel racks, door knobs- that type of hardware in all different styles and finishes... higher end and lower end stuff to fit your budget. Don't waste your time. This has to be some of THE WORST customer service I have ever experienced in this area. I've been trying for MORE THAN 3 WEEKS to get a quote and ETA for a single door handle. We went in on a weekend and the customer rep we talked to showed us a few door handles and then gave us his card. He told us that he could support the full ordering process through e-mail. So the following week we e-mailed him. No response. We waited and waited and waited. So we forwarded our e-mail to the generic info e-mail address thinking that perhaps the rep's business card was out of date. Then we received an e-mail from the customer rep. It sounded like our first e-mail went into a black hole mysteriously. But we gave them that one and went on. Then calls and more e-mails to and fro. Last we heard they were checking with the manufacturer to see if the handle was in stock and the ETA. Guess the manufacturer went into the black hole this time and they took the Belmont customer rep with them. For whatever reason, the customer rep at Belmont Hardware stopped communicating with me altogether. Off the radar completely. No explanation. Nothing. Just a big white space in our inbox. So after nearly a month of trying to buy a door handle from them we have nothing to show for it except a few e-mail exchanges. Unbelievably unacceptable ! read more

Unreal,....Patrizio just spent over an hour taking apart a handle for a sliding door, with parts made in 1965,....fixed the spring, re-set all the parts, and now it is back to normal, and our house is again safe! He did all this while ringing up customers right and left, and at no charge to me. There's a lot to be said about the local small business, as Home Depot or any other store for that matter would have never taken the time to solve the issue. Now, I am not drilling through metal doors to install a handle that may not have fit right in the first place! Belmont Hardware rocks! Give Patrizio a raise man! This is a review about the "kitchen and bathroom plumbing" part of the business. We remodeled a kitchen and bath. I am not an experienced remodeler and have expensive taste but hate to part with money -- a tough combination. I had gone to another company's showroom and looked online. Both approaches left me feeling uncomfortable. At the other showroom, I felt pressured to spend a lot quickly. Online, I couldn't evaluate the quality and could expect no support. I am really glad I went to Belmont Hardware. Diana Cardia helped us find beautiful, high quality items that fit our taste and made us feel comfortable that we were getting high value for our dollars. Diana was unfailingly pleasant and professional in helping us understand everything we needed and helping us select them: I always felt well-advised and never felt pressured. As result, we ended up buying all the fixtures and accessories for the two rooms there. As importantly, I felt I had a partner in the process. For example, she quickly helped us recover when construction was under way and we discovered that I had ordered the wrong size sink. I could always call Diane for advice. The pricing was fair for the quality of the products (it was always comparable to the on-line prices!). Customer service is not a priority here. I went knowing exactly what I wanted to order. I walked in the store and was not offered a greeting despite being the only person there. I went to the area I was going to order from to look around and finally someone came by to go to his desk. I had to say hello and and tell him I had a few questions. He was obviously not interested in helping me. I told him I wanted to place an order and he gave me a sheet I had to fill out with information about my door. I had to go home to do it, so I asked him if he wanted my credit card info and name etc.. and then I'd just call in with my measurements. He said no. This review is long overdue. We have worked with Diana Cardia at Belmont Hardware to buy all the plumbing-related items needed for a whole house remodel, and I recommend her highly. Diana has made what could have been a very stressful experience very easy and straightforward. Diana is patient, knowledgeable, calm and has a great can-do attitude. She gave us great advice regarding products, helped us select ones that are well made and well priced, and gave us a very competitive quote. In addition Diana has managed our project from start to finish, making sure all items were ordered on time, stored at Belmont Hardware until needed, and clearly labeled, so there would be no errors during installation. Most important, Diana has been absolutely amazing in helping us problem solve when a few changes had to made. For example, after framing it was determined we needed a smaller toilet than planned originally. In addition, the tub we'd wanted originally ended up being back ordered. In both cases, Diana swiftly found a suitable substitute and honored our original price, even though the substitute items cost a little more. Originally, I had considered buying my plumbing supplies online, but after working with Diana, I'm so glad I didn't. Belmont Hardware's prices are very competitive, and you can't beat the customer service. I'm so glad I used a local retailer who could give me the peace of mind that, whatever came up during the remodel process, they would help me through hassle free. read more

The most wonderful selection of door and cabinet hardware you can imagine, It is a joy just walking through the store. But when I paid for my purchase by credit card they said that it was rejected and asked for another card. I gave them another and didn't think much about it until I discovered that I HAD BEEN BILLED TWICE with charges on both credit cards. I still haven't resolved this with them. I love the store but be careful if you pay by credit card. They know hardware but can't seem to work the credit card machine. read more

I have never written a negative review. For the most part everyone we deal with in this community is wonderful. I don't know quite what to say, except I feel the need to share the experience I had today at Belmont Hardware. We have lived in Belmont for over 30 years and in that time have shopped at Belmont Hardware frequently. This was our first time at the store since it changed to a specialty hardware store. We thought, once again, that Belmont Hardware would be the place to go, since we needed some high end specialty parts for our bathroom, and this store was always there to help us in the past. Today was different. After walking into the store, most definitely not looking my best, as I had just come from working in my garden, I might as well have been invisible. For a good ten minutes I stood at the counter as salesmen just walked by me. One gentleman was behind the counter helping another customer. He knew I was waiting, but I understood as he was busy and I patiently waited for him to finish or for one of the other salesmen to finally acknowledge I was there. When the customer left, he got up and walked away from behind the counter. Several times I asked him if he could answer a question for me or just guide me in the right direction. Finally, he turned around as if he was bothered by my persistence and clearly not interested in anything I would be inquiring about. The whole experience bothered me on so many levels. Our business community in Belmont has always been gracious and helpful and to feel a business that has been around for so long was less than professional is a disservice to our community. It also upsets to think that my appearance (jeans, work shirt, and very tired looking expression on my face!), might have influenced why I was treated like I wasn't even there. I doubt whether having my business makes any difference to them, but for me - and for my family - we will shop elsewhere from now on. read more

No way could I have gotten all the quality plumbing fixtures I needed from Home Depot. I love this place! And several other customers at the cash register when I was last in echoed the same sentiment. I am very surprised to see some negative comments about the customer service at Belmont Hardware. Altho, they are extremely busy on Saturdays. But I have experienced superb customer service during the week. My husband and I remodeled 3 baths plus dry bar so needed a lot of knobs and pulls. Both Joey and Sam at the Belmont location where very helpful and offered suggestions. Not at all turned off that I was watching the bottom line. They've got very attractive and good quality pulls/ knobs in the "value" range. Far better quality than Home Depot or Lowe's. Even my husband could tell this from a quick glance. If they don't have the number of items you need in one location they will bring them in from another location. I've also visited the San Jose and Berkeley locations either to get samples or pick items up. All locations have great customer service. And all locations are a treasure trove of cabinetry hardware! Also, when the salesperson found out the amount of knobs and pulls I needed, he volunteered that that amount would qualify for a volume discount. I didn't have to ask. All in all, I really enjoy walking into their stores and doing business with them. read more

Belmont Hardware mistakenly ordered the wrong door lever for me and are now making the exchange process incredibly difficult when it was their fault to begin with!!! We've shopped here multiple times over the last 5 years - that have a pretty good stock though much of what they sell has to be ordered. Customer service however has seriously gone down hill recently. Most recently we've been trying to get some faulty hardware replaced from a batch ordered for a remodel- both of the staff members who were 'helping' us were pretty rude, never followed up or called us. Will have to order replacements elsewhere and will not come back here! read more

This place takes the prize for worst customer service ever. My husband and I walked in this past summer and needed help to replace and/or repair some antique locks. There were at least 4 persons just standing around and we went up to the counter obviously looking for assistance. We also wanted to buy some other parts for an antique door such as hinges and pulls, and asked if someone could help us. Every one declined and kept on doing their thing, finally someone came out and told us that the guy who could help us was on break. so we had to wait another 10 mins. Once he was helped., we did spend over $400.00 and some parts had to be ordered and/or sent back to the manufacturer. They said he would be contacted in about 10 days. After 3 weeks., my husband called and they were too busy to help him find out the status of his order. This went on and on for about 3 months, until he finally got what he had ordered and prepaid. Never again! I rarely write reviews. unless they are fantastic and deserve the credit, or as in this case, they are just the worst. FYI there is anew lock and hardware store on San Carlos Ave.in San Carlos, and the owner was most helpful and accommodating. Too bad we did no go there first. read more

Great after sales service! I had to reinstall a bathroom accessory that a contractor had done a subpar job on, a couple of years back but lacked the necessary screws, etc. I went back to the supplier, Belmont hardware, and the pleasant lady at the counter readily provided the necessary hardware to reinstall the bathroom accessory.
