Horrible customer service. I asked an employee where I could fine measuring tape. The gentleman in an aisle pointed to a glass case and told me it wasn't locked. I walked over and grabbed what I needed and the female associate at the register told me in her snarky attitude to next time ask for assistance and that there are signs for a reason. She clearly had a lack of social skills and doesn't need to be the face - to - face representation of the company if she doesn't know people skills. I asked her to next time ask if I had been helped and she told me people just do why they want and sighed like I had inconvenienced her by talking. I've never had any negative experiences at this location. I came on a Sunday and was fortunate to find a parking space, since their lot is small with only 7 spaces to park. Main reason I come here is because they're much closer than Home Depot. And you can always find someone to help you, whereas with those big-box stores it's hard to find someone at times. Today Mae (sp?) was able to help me with an item that I needed and asked her if they could custom cut it to size. She said they may not be able to, but she went out her way to find someone to do it. She got Justin to do it for me for a small fee! A+ service! 4-stars because parking can be a problem. read more

This place costs a little more than Home Depot, but it's got a lot going for it - it's walking distance from my place, it's got an amazing selection of stuff for such a small store (and has things I can't find at Home Depot or Lowe's, believe it or not), and the final kicker is their employees (at least all the ones I've encountered) are knowledgeable. It's a win-win, no driving across town, I can find almost anything I need, and I[m supporting local business. read more

I can walk here, so it is amazingly convenient. But the parking can be a pain. They have a little bit of everything you need in a pinch. The prices are a little high compared to large stores, but I will pay to bot drive 15 minutes :-) read more

This is a fine smaller hardware store to hit in the neighborhood. My needs are usually easily met here and I can avoid traveling to Home Depot. I drop in to have keys duplicated on occasion, smaller bathroom items, covers for drains, shower heads, etc. Most recently I came in looking for an S hook to hang a hummingbird feeder. OK I may have to re-review this later but for now, my 2 stars stand. I went to the Do It center in Burbank to get some screws to hold on a kitchen cabinet handle: $0.12. I got the wrong size so I went to Ace Hardware in Studio City: $0.50+ ?! Sorry, my mistake. I picked up the gold-plated screws by mistake. I live a few blocks away so I'm sure I'll be back here for something. When that happens I'll update but for now, I was a bit upset in the cost of that one damn screw. read more

This hardware store is a joke and it pretty much stinks. Everything in this hole is dirty and dusty. They don't really have anything good just brackets and screws and hammers - the basics. I have been to this location several times because I pass it on the way to and from work. The parking lot is the size of a postage stamp so its not worth it to even try to find a space, park on the street. The store is always blasting and I mean blasting music which is usually not a bad thing. However, playing ear splitting heavy grunge metal and hard core rap music is not professional nor appropriate. This is a slacker Ace hardware store and employs like most other hardware stores, overgrown boys/men who wont shave or dress like grown person. I stopped by last night and it was 6:15 PM. They close at 6:30, I walk in and the guy acted really surprised and said "We're closed". I said its not 6:30 and he gets all huffy with me. He did let me browse around, but as usual, their selection is pitiful and very limited. The prices on the stuff they do have are not competitive with Lowes or Home Depot. I'll be glad when this place goes out of business. read more

I believe in supporting small businesses, and I love having a local hardware store I can just pop down to in a pinch. However, after shopping at this store multiple times and regularly having the same issues, I have found the hassle with their mis-pricing of items, poor customer service, and horrible return policy is not worth the convenience of location. The most common issue I have run into here is items ringing up at a higher price then the price displayed where they stock. The (multiple!) times I've noticed that my item rings up higher than I expected it to, they claimed it was a mistake and point out how it was shelved under the wrong label. However, this "mistake" has happened to me while shopping at this store at least three times with three distinct items. Unless you were reading the bar code numbers, there was absolutely no way to tell that the item was stocked in the wrong place, until you got to the front of the store and it rang up $1-$5 higher than you thought it would. Further, at least two of those times the lower priced item wasn't even in stock. For the number of times this has happened to me at this store, they have either the world's sloppiest stock boys or they are doing it deliberately. You can't count on looking over the receipt, either, because they will not accept returns even on brand-new, unopened items, even if you only made it as far as the parking lot before checking your receipt. Once, I did manage to have them adjust the price to reflect the advertised price prior to purchasing, but only after I requested that they show me where the lower priced item was so I could buy it, since it wasn't on stock in the shelves, and then pointed out that there was no price tag for the higher priced item. I don't mind paying more for the convenience of a local store. I do mind being lied to about the amount I am paying for items. If these issues are genuinely mistakes, I recommend that the management become more diligent about stocking items correctly and removing pricing labels for items that are not in stock. That's why I would only recommend this store if you really can't make the drive to another home improvement store or if you just need a little item really quickly. And pay attention to the cash register as they ring you up. read more

The service is lackluster to say the least. A. When going to Ace I'd expect people to be friendly and knowledgeable however they were neither. B. Returns are very difficult. Example ..I returned a lock.. they opened it and saw that I was missing one screw so they charged me for a screw before giving me a return. The screw was $1.39 what screw cost that much?? Besides that ... parking was easy but guys step it up and hire staff that knows what they're talking about and a smile wouldn't hurt !! read more

Wanted to support my local ace during the pandemic and bought 12 GFCI's for double the price online... came back to return and they said absolutely no returns during covid...will never go here again...Home Depot and Lowe's actually return your items.. I have $250 of overpriced GFCI's that were never installed and not allowed to be returned...just go to a bigger store. Hate to say it but would've never came to this place if I had known they didn't accept returns during covid.. horrible policy...literally returned a 9 month old dead plant to Home Depot and they accepted it no questions asked. read more

I love this place. It's tiny, but they have all the basics and a little more. The staff is really nice and helpful. I got some keys made there on a Sunday (when none of the locksmith stores are open). They all worked perfectly and cost next to nothing. read more

This is a sweet little store and they have lots of stuff. But they made me a key and the key got stuck in the lock and the locksmith I had to call out to remove it said it was due to not a proper cut; their machine needs calibration. He also suggested I take his invoice to the store and ask to be reimbursed which I did. Unfortunately the key (which is stamped ACE) they said I did not purchase at their store. The property I bought the key for is around the corner and there is no way I went to another store to buy the key. I get it they don't want to reimburse me the $90 for the locksmith and unfortunately I did not keep the receipt and paid the $2.84 in cash. In any event it is not good customer service. I stopped here to pick up a replacement for my Maglite. Althouh I didn't experience any issues, I was approached by several employees asking if I needed assistance. While there I also picked up some extra light bulbs for the homestead. The prices were fair and good selection. I'll go on a limb and say that there is no way I'd get the same treatment at Lowe's or Home Depot. You also don't need to worry about being run over by a forklift while walking through here either. The checkout was quick and efficient. Parking is somewhat of a challenge as the lot is small but I would be back. read more

I never knew this store was here until I googled it. It's very small, I thought my car would die in the parking lot. I would say that normally I would give this 3 star- i didn't want these yelpers mad at me. just kidding It's not a strong 3 by any means. I did like the fact that it is a small mom and pop store and you don't see those too often, especially in LA. I did have to knock off a couple for the service I got on a trip- -looking for shelving and wanted some ideas and the guy got mad that I didn't have any measurements or anything like that. it is a small store, so it's cramped and not the selection you could find elsewhere. read more

I recently bought a new dresser and a few other pieces of cheap furniture off of Amazon and when they arrived...there was definitely some assembly required :( We all know how bad this sucks but what sucks even worse is not even having the tools to do so! I headed up to Ace Hardware on Ventura with a list of the tools that I needed. I simply showed the employee at the counter what I needed and he showed me where every single item on my list was and gave me a recommendation for each brand in respect to each product. I saved some money, got all of the tools that I needed and all of them are quality tools that were affordable, will do the job right and will last awhile. I needed a part and called and they kept transferring me to people who knew nothing and put me on hold. After it was all over I waited 40 mins Ito twin to four people and two as hung up twice. This pace should be declared a disaster area in customer service. read more

Had a really awful experience here getting ripped off and dealing with rude staff. They made a copy of two keys, both of which didn't work, and refused to refund when I brought them back. This is a local hardware store right off Ventura Blvd. it's not massive warehouse sized but they always have what I need. It's, admittedly, slightly more expensive than the big box home stores but the lower stress I experience getting what I need makes up for that. I visited two small local hardware stores this last Saturday and I must say the stark contrast in service and basic courtesy was striking. I will never return to Ace Hardware in Studio City due to the rudeness. Just be nice people and think about how you want to be treated. They seemingly have no regard to following Covid capacity requirements and the woman working the front register was one of the rudest store clerks I've ever encountered. My young toddler was having a moment, and insisted on being held. I needed six packages of lights, which were on the table about 12 feet away from the register. In the overly crowded store there was no way to grab one of the small carts, that were also being blocked by a small congregation of people upon entering the store. Since my toddler wanted to be held I was only able to also hold two of the lights packages. I politely sat the two down and advised the clerk that I needed I needed a total of six packages so that she could start to ring them up, and I then proceeded to make two quick trips to the table behind me (less than 12 feet away) to grab the lights. When I placed the last lights on the counter I was met with hostility, and an unprovoked lecture that I shouldn't have been in line if I wasn't ready. I apologized and said I couldn't hold more than two at a time, as my son wouldn't let me put him down. The clerk then rudefully said I could've gathered them up in one of the small carts, which I pointed out were all blocked. The clerk then started to check me out with a hostile demeanor, strangely offered me no bag despite them being there, and shoved my lights onto the floor by the counter without so much as the word while I made two additional trips to the car. (There were other employees in the store that could've helped... this wasn't a matter of being short staffed in a Covid environment.) The 60 seconds extra that it took me while dealing with a young child was not a big deal, but common courtesy and Covid are. On the other hand I went to North Hollywood Hardware the same day For a few more holiday lights. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I really didn't need help carrying my three bag purchase out to the car, as it was right outside the door, but received genuine assistance that was insisted upon anyways. I highly recommend going to North Hollywood hardware instead... They are kind and have also provided me with extremely helpful guidance when working on home reno projects. read more

I feel for everyone who's had a bad experience, however... I'm not sure why the gripes about service...try to get service at Home Depot...yeesh. I've been going to GD for four decades and yeah, it changed when it became an Ace, but I doubt it would still be here if it hadn't. And the big deal is this: after the '94 earthquake, they stayed open late, they didn't rip anyone off and they tried in every way imaginable to be helpful. Unfortunately, this is what you pay for, service is awful and their pricing is just another way to over charge people. Due to their location on the Blvd in studio city, it's convenient and a local spot. The Nearest Hardware is miles away, but that shouldn't be a reason to charge 30-40% more that other large corporations for the same thing. They have every item you need to fix anything plus they have lighting equipment, digging equipment and cooking appliances as well.......the only drawback is the small parking lot but usually its never full so you should have no problem parking....now go fix something. read more

This store used to have really good customer service. Now, it's nothing but unfriendly and rude employees, especially the two female cashiers. Never a smile or a friendly greeting. If you're miserable, find another job. I was in there two weeks ago looking for something and the younger female employee was absolutely unfriendly. She was putting something up on a shelf and I asked her for help. She basically said to ' go look for it myself' and kept putting things on a shelf. I asked her again for help and with constant sighing, grunts and angry energy, she mustered some semblance of help. It seems no one there wants to go out of their way to help customers. I grew up in a small town with these types of stores. Employees were always ready to help. But this store is the worst. I'll be going to Home Depot now. I really liked this Ace Store but now, I'll never return. I'm also getting several others to file a formal complaint with the BBB. One of the worst Aces I've ever been to, but it's close so I'm stuck with it. Employees are rude and disappear when looking for help finding something, which you will need since the store is disorganized and resembles a hoarder's living room. Most employees barely have a grasp on the English language, and act annoyed when asking where to find items. Many things on the shelves are repackaged returns and covered in dust. Selection is poor, and parking is terrible. read more
