From my Google review:…read more I work in customer service, so I generally have a lot of sympathy for other service workers. However, I did not enjoy my experience at Studio Monroe this Thursday at all. I booked a simple brow and lip wax, which was blocked for 15 min period on their calendar invite. I showed up to the studio about 10 minutes early and was told Katie was with another client. No big deal. I was early, right? Wrong. I waited 20 minutes past the time my appointment should have STARTED and was told nothing from the person working the front desk. After 20 minutes, I told the front desk person that I wanted to cancel my appointment, which she agreed to. I mentioned someone who had gotten there later than me being helped first by Katie, only to receive the response that that person had an appointment booked before me. So, why did someone who had an appointment before me show up later than me? I wasn't massively early, only 10 minutes. Was that individual only blocked for 5 minute appointment? Is that even possible? Was she notified that Katie was running late? Why wasn't I told there was another appointment before mine that she hadn't gotten to yet, when I first checked in? After all that, I left. Katie did reach out to me to apologize and offer a complimentary wax, which was a very nice thing to do. I wasn't overly thrilled with the outcome even though I wanted to simply keep the same shape, but was too afraid to say something since I had already made a point about the lateness. All in all, I will not be returning to Studio Monroe. I canceled my future waxing appointments I had set up with them. I had high hopes since I really enjoyed my visit to Xscape Salon under same management. I wouldn't say the wax job was bad by any means, but just not what I was looking for (i.e. my brows ended up more rounded and wider set than I like). My biggest gripe is with the front desk and customer service. If I was rating just the wax, 3 stars. If I was rating just the front desk/customer service, 1 star. Overall, met in the middle with 2 stars.

It was my first time having a balayage touch up done here last month with Avery. I didn't have much of a vision for what I wanted, just knew I wanted brown red tones. Avery was super sweet and attentive to my questions and my preferences. It's always a nervous process meeting a new hair stylist but we clicked really well and she was very reassuring and diligent with her work! I had a very positive experience with her and loved the redness of the balayage at the end. Everyone in the salon hyped me up and it felt like a very supportive environment for the workers and clients! Avery also walked me through how to maintain my hair color, and I have been able to keep my hair red 1 month later with the recommended red shampoo! Overall a great experience and professional work here. I feel very at ease with the high quality services they offer. Definitely would come back

Not only is the salon adorable, clean, and welcoming - but they have the BEST product selection. Aveda, R&Co., Orbe, and more. They aren't product pushy at ALL. On top of the hair products, they have a lovely assortment of hair accessories, jewelry, candles, lip products, etc on display every time I come in.. and honestly, it's always on trend, awesome quality, and you need it. I love their online booking tool - super easy to use! As for the talent of their stylists - I have never left unhappy with my hair, far from it. I always leave loving what was done and feeling like a million bucks. Each girl I have seen for a service has done an outstanding job and I have loved my hair! I get asked often where I get my hair done, I love sharing where and who does my hair. Highly recommend Xscape Salon - and their sister location Studio Monroe, too!

When my pedi color (opi bubble bath) wasn't set in 3 coats, my nail tech added 3 more to my big toe. Then the unthinkable.....when putting on my sandals, we both bumped that same toe. He went back to clean up and recoat my nail. You don't always find that consistency and willingness to help. I reflected that in my tip. Pedi with sugar scrub and hot towel was $35, there was another upgraded service as well. You'll find five nail stations and five pedicure chairs. Simple setup, again great customer service experience.

This experience highlighted the importance of proper communication between the client and technician to ensure expectations are clearly understood and to provide safe, satisfactory service. I came in hoping to have my nails filled. I was greeted by Kim and then assigned to another technician. The technician did not speak English, so communication was very difficult. I asked Kim to help translate. I was told that they recommended starting over with a new set, although I did not fully understand the reason. I agreed. During the removal of my existing gel, the technician filed my nails and then used a piece of plastic to chip away the old gel. In the process, the top layer of my natural nails was also removed. I have very thin nails, and this was painful. I asked Kim to explain this to the technician, but communication remained difficult. The technician then began preparing my nails for tips. I specifically explained that I did not want tips because I cannot tolerate nail glue. I requested gel or powder instead. By that point, however, my nails had already been cut very short. Kim then took over after finishing with another client. When Kim asked what shape I wanted, I explained that I wanted a natural shape--not pointy or square. I tried several times to explain that I simply wanted the corners rounded. The communication continued to be difficult, and I felt that Kim was increasingly frustrated with me as a client. Eventually, while working on my nails, she suddenly began cutting them very short. When I questioned what she was doing, she told me she would not continue the service, that there would be no charge, and that she needed to cut off what she had done. She then told me to go somewhere else. This happened at approximately 6:55 p.m., when most other salons were already closing, leaving me with very short, damaged and painful nails and nowhere realistic to go for help that evening. I understand that communication difficulties can happen, but I expected patience, professionalism, and care--especially when I was clearly experiencing pain and trying to explain what I wanted. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled left me very disappointed. Based on my experience, I would not return.
