Now this place is full of nostalgia--the awkward arcade, the horrible paper towel dispensers, the constant lack of soap in the dispensers, the smell of coconut oil and shoe crust... Seeing the usher at the front always makes me smile. I remember when my friends used to work here and they'd tell me all about how it was a lot of waiting. Being greeted by a teenager is refreshing and takes me way back. Ticket prices remain COMPETITIVE! I got the movie pass and bought tickets for 5 movies for several folks for just over $100. I recognize the current owners didn't make the renovations to the space, but as a single screen venue...it should feel special, distinct and one-of-a-kind experience from front door to lobby to theatre. It doesn't. 2.) The online website and programming of what's on screen is not extra special. First run films are better left to the cineplexes. This space would suit a well-curated art house, classic cinema, and rarely seen films for a large swath of audiences in the Brazos Valley. I live right around the corner and the 50th Anniversary screening of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon was the first film since their launch (in current iteration)...it was fun to experience on a large screen. 3.) What is unclear from the online presence is that food can be served to your seat. I looked extensively in the sight but this was not evident to me until we arrived. The menu is very pedestrian, burgers, greasy fries and more fried things, and standard salads. Again, nothing special or unique. 4.). Why are tickets for future screenings unavailable since they are already advertised? Also, there was a lot of noise in the lobby during the film and the house lights did not come up after the film concluded. I WANT to support a local one-screen experience Downtown, but how I miss the reopening days of this place when it was diversely curated and a human being sat in the ticket booth to welcome you into the Experience of The Queen. For a local theater, it's absolutely worth a visit if you're looking for quality entertainment at a very reasonable price. The theater itself is older, which adds a lot of charm and character to the experience, though it does come with a few drawbacks. The biggest challenge is the restroom situation--there are only two small restrooms, so a little strategic planning during intermission is helpful if you want to avoid long lines. One thing I really appreciated was the concession pricing. The drinks were very reasonably priced, which was a pleasant surprise compared to many larger venues. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back to enjoy another show in the future.
