They refuse to let me check in early even with a platinum status, so I took my business away from them. Before I did, I called the Hampton Inn never had been at this property before and amazing employee by the name of Leland assisted me. I explained that possibly would like to check in a little bit early because I was changing hotels, and the checkout time was a lot earlier than what their check-in time was. He said normally that's not a problem but just let me verify that we have a room ready. Now this was at 10 o'clock in the morning. He came back and said that will not be a problem. Absolutely you can come anytime and we'll get you checked in. Yet when I try to check in at the Holiday Inn express in Algonquin at 12 o'clock I was told I would be charged $40 for that extra time even though the daily rate was $106 and I held a platinum status. When I actually arrived, Leland was behind the desk and he couldn't have been more accommodating and generous. He did not know my story until after I checked in. I even had a blender and spilled water all over the council by the elevators and he's so kindly took care of it. I asked to actually clean up the mess, but he refused and said don't you worry. We've had a lovely stay so far. Thank you Hampton in McHenry for making a difficult day turn out. It's a little bit of sunshine and thank you Leland for your excellent customer service.

Fine for me because I'm under 5 foot tall. 3. No cable TV. 4. No internet and my 5G was not working in that whole area. Could just be my service provider though. For that price this better be a 4 star hotel - it isn't. 2) They put a $300 hold on our card for "incidentals". $300!!!! 3) We were told and given a card that said it's "bug" season and to keep all doors closed. Didn't matter, we never opened ours and there were bugs everywhere 4) The TV was ridiculously small, had a remote from 1980 the size of a brick, had no cable, and no app access to do anything with. Awful 5) The porch was dirty and parts of the molding were rotting away. Not like we went out due to the bug warning, but it was too filthy to contemplate sitting in. Very bare and boring. 6) The decor is all over the place. Black faucets for the sinks, chrome for the shower, satin nickel for doorknobs, and some ghastly gold rings for the ceiling lights from the 70s. Whomever did this must have used spare parts from somewhere else. No consistency at all. 7) The girl at the check in counter hated her job. Clearly evident. Even said the incidental hold was for if we destroy something. I'm 55 - what is this college? 8) Check in is a crazy 4pm. Checkout is 11am or $50/hour penalty. You're getting only 19 hours of time. 9) You don't so much as get a bottle of water in the room or a salt packet for the tub so bring your own. That $1 it would cost the hotel would be nice I'm sorry Geneva Inn - you're dated, old, and worthy of a 2 star hotel. Having a good view is not worth the cost here or your hidden fees.
