The disgusting sock my young child found under the bed.
    Allison K.

When I checked in, the front desk clerk spent about 20 minutes telling me how much money I could have saved had I not booked with booking.com and then when I explained that was the first site that came up when I searched the hotel, she attempted to pull up the hotel website only to find that it was "under construction". The room smelled like stale cigarettes. The room was not very clean, the sheets had hair on them that was not ours. The lock on the door was broken and it would take about 10 tries each time to get my room key to unlock the door. When my daughter checked under the bed for anything that may have dropped, she found a DISGUSTING old sock that had been there for God only knows how long. When I went to the front desk to get towels for the pool, the daytime clerk was quite rude. The "breakfast" was one of the sparsest I've ever seen, with a sign stating that eggs were only on the weekend and that guests could NOT take food back to their room with them. When I went to check out and showed the clerk the sock picture, she only said "I'll make them aware", no apologies or even any kind of sympathy in regards to the situation. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the pool was nice.

    Cool waterfall into the pool

The room was very clean. Getting into the room was kind of difficult. The lock was not letting me in. The front desk had to assist me to get in the hotel room. A lot of channels weren't working on the tv or no sounds. Good thing about this hotel the pool was open till Midnight. Only problem pool was open till midnight kids were still swimming late into the night. My room was next to pool I can see and hear them swimming. The breakfast in morning was good but no meat only on the weekend which was kind of disappointing. Fresh waffles were delicious. Various of juices and breads. After went swimming and enjoyed the jacuzzi. Some broken floor on pool deck no to bad though and women's bathroom was kind of flood with hopefully is just water.

I was beyond overwhelmed and he was so helpful and made the entire process simple! The rooms were clean- we aren't talking 5 star resort, but you can tell they take pride in what they do and it was comfortable and clean. My kid graduated and they were very accommodating and with last minute add of a room. I travel a lot for work and customer service is key! I also had a great experience with Chad on the phone, who was also very helpful and patient! I again recommend this hotel!

About 10 minutes later I received a text from the front desk manager Sabrina. I was able to pick up what I needed from the front desk. You can charge snacks to your room, and it will be deducted from the deposit. Convenient means a lot to most, especially me. The breakfast was delicious!! A nice wide variety of meals for all diets. The oatmeal with almonds looked great but not my choice this morning. Spacious dining area. Friendly kitchen staff ready to assist. There is also a Wendy's in a safe walking distance day or night. Thanks Sabrina Nicole four showing great leadership in your Inn. It shows through the staff. Keep up the good work.

This is a solid 2 to 3 star hotel…read more The building is dated, but has been renovated. There are foundational things that just can't be changed, but overall we found the hallways and the common areas to be kind of drag. The rooms we stayed in (we had two for our group) were clean, everything working properly and updated but not in a modern way. We stayed two nights and while the halls are pretty loud when people are talking or running thru, it was quiet and I got a good nights sleep. There is a fridge, microwave, small coffee maker in the room. TV worked great. Internet free WiFi was okay. One area that could make it better would be a bit of a step up on the free breakfast - it was busy in there and there are so many chairs and tables but they are large, heavy and awkward. The other area to improve would be the food itself - not much was offered (we were there a Friday and Saturday morning) and it could easily hold some more options such as more items to toast, hard boiled eggs, other grab/go options like yogurts, etc. Coffee station was stocked and decent. Key to this hotel is location - right off 94, next to Gurnee Mills and a quick walk/drive to many places to eat and shop. I likely wouldn't pick this again but we had a last minute trip and this worked for us.

I had to make 2 reservations as one night I was using points and the other I was paying for. Everyone was very helpful in general when I had questions. They do not have a fitness room (which is probably good as every one that I went into at a hotel was stinky so I walked out) but they would give me a pass to a fitness center not far away. They also offered to keep my cooler packs in their freezer until we were leaving. The room was very clean, the breakfast was a regular hotel breakfast except the pancakes. I will recommend the pancakes. I love that machine, fresh pancakes with no mess or fuss. They would have gotten a 5 stars if the room would have had a larger refrigerator (we had a small square fridge), if the fridge had a freezer, and the mattress would not have slid on the metal platform every time I got onto the bed. I am 5 foot and the bed was a bit tall for me, I could not just sit down on it. If you hit the mattress with your knee walking by the mattress moved. I suggested to them to put a rug gripper under the mattress. My sister had a firmer bed, mine was softer and I wish I would have taken the firmer mattress. The pillows were not for me, but I like a firmer pillow.

When you come by boat it can be slightly confusing on which docks to use, but we eventually figured it out. The restaurant is on top of a hill so you have to climb stairs to get to it. They have a cute patio with a few tables, but unfortunately they were full outside so we sat inside. The decor is really interesting and the restaurant has a cozy feel that makes me want to visit in winter. They have a selection of bottled beer and a bar if you want a cocktail instead. The drinks were good. Our group ordered a few appetizers - the jumbo pretzel, German meatballs, and onion rings. The jumbo pretzel was HUGE. They serve it with mustard, cheese, and honey mustard. The honey mustard looked homemade and was so good. The German meatballs were served over spaetzle and was also good. We enjoyed the onion rings too, and although they didn't come with any sauce the waitress offered to grab some for us. I ordered the perch basket as my entree. I had to after hearing so many things about their fish fry! Others in my group ordered the blue gill basket, BBQ chicken breast, jaeger schnitzel sandwich, veal brat, and chicken schnitzel sandwich. Most of the portions are huge and some of us probably could have shared. My perch was awesome and definitely on par with what I had heard about it. It was lightly breaded, nicely seasoned, and the breading didn't fall off. Perfect! Everyone else really enjoyed their meals as well. My boyfriend who ordered the jaeger schnitzel's only complaint was that it could have been a bigger portion, which is surprising considering how big some of the other portions were. They are cash only so make sure you bring cash! They do have an ATM to use if you find yourself in a situation without it. Our server, I believe her name was Allie, was great! The busboys kind of hovered over us and made me feel rushed to give them my plate, but we were the only table on that side of the restaurant so maybe they were trying to stay busy. My only wishes is that they'd exercise proper heath and safety precautions during this pandemic (most of the staff weren't wearing masks and social distancing wasn't encouraged) and that they'd offer some beer on tap.

We enjoyed it there was a balcony outside but that balcony rail is absolutely loose it seems like a liability waiting to happen. There's plenty of tourists here and a lot of people will act like they forgot how to park or they expect top notch privilege which will make going up to the front desk a giant pain upon arrive . If you see a parking spot near the front just take it and walk in and check in . Some of the amenities are pretty cool but I do feel like this place was a bit overrated for the time being. This place felt very outdated as well but this place can be pretty much dead at certain times of the year. The breakfast here is solid but it is absolutely expensive if you go for the Continental package. They charged me $54 and it wasn't even all that good it's probably worth $30 at best. If I knew it was going to be that expensive and underwhelming I would have walked to the gas station and probably paid $10. I will say that there are Lobby shines bright and so does their bar. Whenever there's a party going on usually there's a lot of life going on over here. If you're going to go anywhere and not drive , I recommend taking an Uber and not a Lyft because the price difference is huge. For an expensive stay, I will lean that this place was a 2.75 star experience. So I will leave it at three stars.

We could not find the outdoor pool or any of the activities listed in the resort pamphlet, and staff gave us conflicting directions when we asked for help. The live music on Friday night and the spa, where we spent another $400, ended up being the best parts of our stay. The main issues started right at check-in when we were informed hotel rooms were fully booked and were moved to the villas instead, making trips back and forth to the main resort inconvenient. Driving to the villas in the evening was also difficult due to poor lighting. Hotels should not allow guests to book main rooms if they are unavailable, only to shift them away upon arrival. Additionally, the rooms, villas, and parts of the resort like the elevators feel outdated. On top of that, we noted both during booking and at the front desk that we were celebrating our anniversary, but it was completely ignored with zero effort to make us feel special. In fact, we rarely felt welcomed at all and found the staff lacking friendliness. To improve, the resort needs better signage, improved evening lighting near the villas, more welcoming staff, and clear communication on how to access events covered by resort fees. Unfortunately, after this experience, I do not think we will be back to the Abbey.
