We couldn't be happier! Finally realized there were alternatives to manually removing bamboo roots... by using a stump grinder! We called Stump King and Kyle was great- he dropped by first to get a preview and let us know what we needed to move/do in order for him to be able to use his machine to the fullest. We emailed pictures of what we did to confirm that the site looked good to go and set up time for the removal the following week! Three weeks ago my 85' oak tree fell over onto my neighbor's house and the root system raised the corner of my house. It took crew of urban lumberjacks seven days to remove the tree. I used this company to have two roots/stumps removed. I called on a Friday 10 minutes before closing and the owner was very pleasant and happy to take the call even though he was about to leave. He was here early Saturday morning to check the job and give us a quote and Sunday he removed both roots, he was here on time, did a great job and didn't leave any mess behind. read more

Poor/non-existent customer service. I filled out an online form requesting an estimate. According to the website, I would be contacted within 24 hours. Three days later when I had not heard from them, I called and left a message. Four days after the phone call, I still have not heard from them. Excellent Service and Very Knowledgeable. We want to thank Russell, the salesman for Stump King. He is very patient and persuasive with excellent customer service skills. I was very surprised he would pick up the phone on a legal holiday, at 9 pm in the evening. I was expecting to leave a massage on the machine but Russell answered the phone! The most impressive is the owner Kyle Knight. He provided excellent customer service for us. We had one-and- half large Cypress trees stumps that needed to be grinned. Some of the stump companies that we called wanted us to remove part of the fence which would make it more convenient for them to turn their machines. Some of them didn't want to do the half tree. But Kyle had no problem with either issue. Kyle arrived about 15 minutes early and grounded the stumps deeper them what we had originally agreed to at no extra charge because he felt that it would look much better if the land there was level. Can't say enough about how easy it was to work with Kyle and Marge. First of all, Marge is the best. She's super organized and responds nearly immediately- she gathered all the information she needed in the morning and managed to schedule me that afternoon, which was great because I was in a time crunch to get rid of a stump during a foundation excavation. Kyle showed up, gave us a thorough run down of how he was going to approach the job, and then got started. I had expected him to take longer than he did, but he worked so quickly and efficiently. I promised Kyle the owner that I would write a review, because if you're like me you check Yelp before using a company. I started my search for removal of a stump in our parking strip on Craigslist. I didn't know what was a reasonable price and what was involved. The responses I received were not very helpful, just estimates without detail. Stump King left a card at my door after seeing our large stump. After calling for a quote, I was given detail on the process and Kyle was very thorough in explaining what we would be paying for. I checked his website and Yelp, and called back within minutes. There was only one Yelp review but talking to him was the selling point. They were out the next day, and a few hours later the stump was gone. This was a Liquid Amber with roots wrapped around the water main and destroying sidewalk and gutter. In order for me to save money removing about 20 privets that were all @ least 25 feet tall, I removed them myself over a 6 month period. The last remaining tree however was leaning towards my neighbors house, so I did not remove that tree. Kyle was willing to fold in the cost of taking down that one tree in addition to grinding over 1 foot below grade. The stumps were huge. He was able to successfully avoid hitting any water lines or gutters & had an upbeat, flexible and positive attitude throughout the entire process. I did not have a good experience with Stump King. Firstly, they would not come out to look at the job, but would only come out to work with the equipment at $250.00 an hour. I agreed to a two hour window, as we have some areas of higher priority, and I didn't want to obligate myself to a high bill without trying the service. We are remodeling, so they requested a time when no other contractors were working and gave me an hour window to wait. They never showed up or called. When I called them, Kyle said they were "coming" but could not tell me when, as he could not reach the crew by phone. I waited an additional 30 minutes, but I had other things to do, and i did not have any idea if they would show up.. I called them again at the office to reschedule, left a message and had no return call. I am disappointed because I saw so many high marks on Yelp... Not sure what happened to me. :-(, but I would not recommend this service. read more

It was very kind of him to make a second trip to finish the job at my house. We had a very large and old Magnolia tree stump in the front yard whose roots had managed to nearly destroy the driveway and walkway to the front door. Marge (the Stump Queen) promptly scheduled a visit from Kyle to assess an estimate the removal costs and even suggested a few reputable driveway contractors to do the cement work. We were extremely pleased with Customer service and work. Kyle came when Marge said he would. They arranged to get all utilities marked before the work started to eliminate any risk of hitting any water, electrical, sewer or gas lines. Kyle's estimate was spot on (and even a little lower than expected); he did a fantastic job with surgical precision; and were so pleasant to work with! Our experience with StumpKing, from customer service, pricing, and work product, was extremely gratifying all around. They set a pretty high bar for customer service and professionalism. We can only hope to find someone as good as Stump King to put in the new driveway and walkways. Needless to say, we would not hesitate to recommend Stump King to friends and family. read more

These two guys came out to grind out about 5 palm tree stumps and also cut down the last of the palm tree I could not fell myself because it had grown too high. They did a great job and was over in a couple of hours. Can't give them a 5 star because the machine accidentally severed a small drip line that was buried. Nonetheless they are a good company. Had 4 Podocarpus trees removed in my backyard, the company who cut down the trees could not fit their stump remover into my backyard due to my small access door. So I called around for quotes for the job, I received several quotes. I hired Stump king for the job because, Kyle (the owner) showed up on time as promised for the quote, sounded confident, I could tell he was experienced from our conversation, price was competitive and a really nice guy. I've now taken 3-4 sick, old ailing tress out of my back yard and not looking forward to the one in the parking strip in front of my home. I'm driving downtown one day and what do I see, a truck with the words 'Stump King' and 'Since 1967" on it. I stopped and introduced myself and told the guy about my tree. This was on a Saturday, on Monday I had a call from one of his employees, on Wednesday I had a rough quote for the work and on Friday it was done. Stump grinding was satisfactory. I had some extra roots to dig out later; that's understandable. When they moved the grinder from the street to the work area, it gouged into driveway pavers. Also, exhaust from the grinder killed areas of vines growing on a nearby wall. read more

They did a decent job grinding out my stump but upped their price from their estimate. I sent a picture of the stump with a tape measure on top of it but he seemed surprised by the size of the stump and low estimate. The stump didn't grow from the picture and it was their estimate so they really should have sucked it up and honored it. It was an extra $75 but I really just wanted it dealt with that day so I agreed to it. read more
