From check in to triage to ER acute care assessment/treatment area, CT scan, Phlebotomist, MD on duty. I felt cared for, supported, nurtured, and an integral part of the plan of care. The education and communication was by far the best I've ever seen in any hospital. This hospital is blessed to have David (tech), Juan (RN), and unfortunately I do not recall their names but the CT scan tech and ER Dr were wonderful! The care at Sturdy is exceptional and the processing from admitting, paperwork, to triage, to phlebotomy, to acute care is speedy (for an ER) and flows well. Kudos to the manager of the ER for running a tight and smooth sailing ship and selecting the right crew that keep things smoothly sailing.

Patient Experience and Concerns at Fuller Hospital…read moreIntroduction This letter has been sent to contact us because patients are unable to express their concerns to administrators, as they are never informed. Initial Experience and Lack of Understanding I was at your facility for help with depression and anxiety. I only met Dr. Haz once and was told I do not know anything about my genetic condition. Hypophosphatasia, which my son and I are the only two individuals diagnosed with in Rhode Island. Dr. Haz looked up the condition hyperphosphatemia instead, which is a completely different medical issue. Concerns During Stay During my stay, I observed significant concern for patient safety as it takes two days or more to get medication approved. Staff failed to follow my primary care provider's instructions regarding medication, and nearly ruined my enzyme replacement medication, which costs $144,000 per month. I was given the wrong Keppra medication, and other wards would enter to take medication, snacks, and nutrition replacement drinks. Staff were also unable to keep track of food allergies or comply with dietary restrictions. Night Shift Conduct and Ward Environment The night shift treated the ward like a slumber party, yelling down the halls and asking patients if they wanted chips and salsa. Bullying was allowed, and inappropriate language was used openly. There was a lack of respect for religious beliefs and practices among both shifts. Personal Belongings and Medical Emergencies Staff stole $20 worth of hair oil from me, and I was sent to the emergency room due to a seizure. My PCP remains unaware of which hospital or treatment was provided. My PCP only learned of my admission after my husband called, following my report that my medication was being mishandled. Staff claimed I was lying about having spinal cord issues, despite documentation from my PCP, orthopedist, and physical therapist. Provider Conduct and Lack of Follow-Up The conduct of Dr. Haz's employees was unprofessional; Dr. Haz was present until 10 a.m. but left at 9:30 a.m. after a disagreement with a patient, leaving no one available for further consultations. I requested a new provider due to his rude behavior and abandonment of staff, but was told only to speak with the staff, which did not address the larger issue. A request to speak with the unit manager was ignored, and my hair oil was not returned upon discharge. Food Allergies and Dietary Concerns The hospital failed to accommodate my documented food allergies. I have severe allergies to beef, chipotle, strawberries, caramel, coconut, and lactose intolerance. Despite informing three staff members on my first day, my first meal included beef gravy, which caused illness within minutes. My allergy information was not acknowledged or recorded properly, even though I made it a point to notify everyone. Lack of Support for Mental Health Needs During my time at the facility, I received no help from depression or anxiety. I left feeling numb, and my PCP had to arrange intensive outpatient services, as Fuller Hospital provided no relevant mental health support. There were no meetings with a psychiatrist or therapist; instead, group meetings focused solely on alcohol and drug addiction, ignoring issues of depression and anxiety. Inconsistent Policies and Patient Safety Some patients were allowed to keep personal items in their rooms, while others, including myself, were not permitted to do so. My roommate was allowed a hairbrush, colored pencils, and food, but I was not allowed to keep paperwork or a hairbrush. She was also breaking a non-contact order without any intervention from staff. Conclusion and Appeal for Action I am uncertain whether sending this letter to you and the Departments of Health in Massachusetts and Rhode Island will help address these serious issues. This hospital should not be called a hospital, but rather a circus that is not properly governed. HERE IS MY CONDITION'S Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a rare genetic disorder that affects bone and tooth mineralization, leading to soft and weak bones, with symptoms varying widely in severity and age of onset. What is Hypophosphatasia? Hypophosphatasia is a rare inherited metabolic bone disease characterized by impaired mineralization of bones and teeth due to mutations in the ALPL gene, which encodes the enzyme tissue nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNSALP). This enzyme is crucial for the proper mineralization process, and its deficiency leads to soft and fragile bones, as well as dental issues. clevelandclinic.org+1 Types and Severity HPP has several forms that vary in severity and age of onset, including: * Perinatal HPP: The most severe form, often resulting in stillbirth or death shortly after birth due to respiratory failure and skeletal deformities. * Infantile HPP: Symptoms appear in infancy, including poor feeding, respiratory problems, and skeletal abnormalities. * Childhood HPP: Symptoms can include short stature, b

Tight visitor parking but free!…read more I had no idea there were visiting hours! (Note: I would understand a nighttime cut off.) FYI: 10am-1pm, 4-7pm. Luckily when I entered to visit someone, it was 3:40. I did have to wait about 15 minutes in line to register with the lobby staff as a visitor. Standing in the line, we were next to the exit door that kept swinging open and getting hit with bursts of cold, January air! I have to say, this was a terrible system. Also, apparently kids under 13 can't visit. My 13 year old was with me and I would have been really upset if I found out after standing in line. This was not posted anywhere but apiece of paper handed to me at the check in station. There is a waiting area. Someone alerts you once it hits 4pm and you can then go and visit. I have to say, I disliked the process. It was clearly posted on the patients door that I needed PPE equipment to visit. The nurses station quickly set us up for success. KUDOS to Miriam. About a year ago at a nearby hospital this was the case with my father but nothing was posted and I found out AFTER I had already been visiting with him! The Nurse we had was well liked by our patient but I found her to be a know it all. Telling my daughter what her pathway to college should be. (Not nursing either.) She also didn't get the message we were visiting and just stood around and took up a lot of our patients time. Keep in mind, we offered to leave to let her do her duties but she rejected. It was mostly standing around and being a part of our time. Overall, our older family members really prefer Miriam. I did think the room was very clean and the floor we were on was quiet.

I left after 10 minutes because I saw I would be there probably 12 hrs. They wouldn't estimate my wait time. The nurse told me there's 8 different triage areas. But wouldn't tell me which one I was out in or how long I could be waiting for even though I asked. Just a rough estimate would have been fine. But nope. And there is ONE nurse triaging all the patients. That is insane. They all act like it's a big fkn party. There must have been 75 ppl in the waiting area and about 35 more in line. And they have ONE NURSE. AND SHE TOOK HER SWEET MERRY TIME. SLOW AS A TURTLE. The ER and hospital throughout is like a 3rd world country. Absolutely unacceptable. If it turns out that I have a heart attack or major heart issue, I am suing Miriam hospital. DO NOT GO HERE. GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE. They should be ashamed. I saw plenty of illegal immigrants in there for the sniffles. And those of us with major health concerns have to wait 12 hours. Get your shit together.

The staff was horrible, the care was an epic failure and there was absolutely ZERO privacy for the patients. When a loved one is in a hospital, you do not treat the people who were and will be caring for them like trash and be disrespectful! Mine signed me as HCP and repeatedly told staff to include me in her care options. I sat in that hospital for 5 whole days with a loved one who was incapacitated clinging to me with dear life and you refused to treat me with any kind of respect. Was also not allowed to bring in any outside food or drink and was not offered a sip of water. Bought a diet coke from a vending machine and I was told to get rid of it. I'm a diabetic, I get thirsty and I had been there from early morning when the ambulance took my family member to the hospital only because it was the closest to the house. We were in the emergency room hallway for an entire day before being moved to a bay. Never even seen a doctor. Just a person monitoring the hallway and a nurse for 5 minutes doing a scan with zero privacy! I held up a blanket for my loved one that was totally uncomfortable with people watching from the other bays and other staff walking around like it was a normal thing to be unclothed in the middle of chaos and other people. When the transfer finally took place because she needed care for something they could not handle, I asked where she was going and was told they didn't know the address! I had to ask the EMT where they were transferring my loved one! I was like "OMG, what if I never see them again because I cannot find them"? I don't care how old she is, she is my loved one! I am a patient at one of the best hospitals in Boston for extensive health issues. They encourage family involvement, my loved one is always at my appointments and is always treated very well by the doctors and staff and they reassure her that I am ok. They include her with no questions asked AND she isn't my HCA! The difference in care, respect and overall pretty much everything between my care at a good hospital and my loved ones care at a terrible one, was so vast that I swear I will be traumatized for life. Not to mention my loved one's trauma. Thank god she came home a day and a half after that horrific stay at Morton Hospital! Absolutely disgusting! I wouldn't send an animal there.
